My friends and I started an indoor soccer team when were were in our early 20s. It became so much more than just a soccer team. The Billy Ray Jeters was basically the most detailed, confusing, and intricate inside joke ever. Eventually I made a documentary about the BRJs that we debuted at The Texas Theatre in Dallas. Story No. 12: My First Job
This is part one in a recurring series that I'll be doing about all of the jobs I've had in my career. Some are interesting, like today's, and others are absolutely wheels off. For this story we dive into my first job as a sports clerk for the Tyler Morning Telegraph newspaper. I got to experience life as a real newspaper sports reporter, and, eventually, I covered Patrick Mahomes in the Little League State Championship. This past weekend I checked an item off my bucket list...way before I ever expected to be able to do so. I performed at the world-famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. I opened for Chris D'Elia in front of a packed house at The Mother Church of Country Music. It was an incredible experience and one I'll remember and cherish forever.
