Episode 41: It Comes Down to Surrender with Mac Macon

Welcome back to the Share Your Story with Ellie Podcast. I’m thrilled you’re here! Firstly, I want to say thank you for the kind words you’ve offered to both me and Mac after last Thursday’s episode. Sharing your story requires incredible vulnerability, which can feel really, really risky. Your texts and “me too’s” have brought comfort and confidence that getting real with life’s gritty truths matter. Thank you. Today’s episode is Part 2 of my conversation with Mac Macon. If you missed Part 1, please make sure you go back and listen, as we’ll pick back up right where we left off. Mac tells more details of his battle with alcoholism and substance abuse. He also shares the tragic moment of losing a dear friend due to drugs, and he details the way God meets with him through AA. I’m grateful Mac gave so much of himself and his story in order to inspire vulnerability, change, and ultimately, hope for others who may be walking a similar path. I can’t tell you how amazed I am by Mac’s story and commitment to his new life. Growing up alongside Mac, I never knew the real depths of what he was struggling with– not just in substance abuse but in believing the lies of the enemy about his identity. I remember hearing our mom’s prayers over his life–and all of us as their kids– that he would find ultimate peace in the Lord. His current reality is ushered in by the many prayers of others, yes, but all the glory is to God, who never stops pursuing Mac and never stops pursuing us. Mac’s surrender and perspective to take action WITH God reminds me of the book of James. Mac’s life points to the reality that it is only through God that he can be saved, but it is not just being a hearer of the Word but also a doer that keeps him continually walking in freedom. Episode 40: Doing It My Own Way with Mac Macon

Happy Thursday, friends! Welcome back to Share Your Story with Ellie. I’m really thankful you’re choosing to spend your time with me! Today, I’ve got my old family friend Mac Macon on the podcast. And yes, you’ll recognize that name, because he is Susan Britt Macon’s son! Our families spent so much time together, especially over holidays– which you’ll hear us reminisce on– and so much of my memories growing up center around the Macons. Mac mentions it in the show, but his friends used to always call him “Mother Goose”, because he was always telling captivating and hysterical stories. That nickname still rings true! Thanks to a little nudge from his sweet fiancé Schuyler, Mac reached out to me a few weeks ago about wanting to share his story with self abuse, specifically struggling with alcoholism. Hearing his honesty about the battles he’s fought against alcoholism and drug use, his clarity after hitting rock bottom, and ultimately, his generosity to share his story with sobriety in order to help other people. In Part 1 of our conversation, Mac offers the raw details of the circumstances that led to his alcohol dependence and the gritty stories of what’s gotten him to this point. I’m honored he would choose to share his story with me and so many others and pray so many more will be set free from the bondage of self harm. Episode 37: Get Your Hopes Up with Meghan Ryan Asbury

Hello my friends! Welcome back to the Share Your Story with Ellie podcast! I’m really excited to have a repeat guest back on the show! Today you get to hear my conversation with one of my dearest college friends, Meghan Ryan Asbury. Meghan is an author and speaker who loves to hype people up to pursue Jesus, so they don’t miss the best part of life. She’s determined to not let her generation waste their lives trying to be comfortable, but instead encourages us to find our callings and run after them. She currently lives in Nashville with her husband Lucas and is about to release HER VERY FIRST BOOK, which releases September 10!  The book is called, “You Are Not Behind”, which is a message I know so many of us can relate to. Meghan unravels the exhaustion we feel with trying to keep up, the grief of life not looking like we’ve hoped, and offers hope for the future in finding contentment in the Lord. I have conversations with friends all the time about how we feel frustrated with where our life is in comparison with others and questioning how we reconcile those frustrations with what we know to be true about God’s character. I trust Meghan in a lot of things, and this topic is top of that list. I’m so excited to learn from her experiential wisdom from her, and I know you’re going to love this conversation.

Episode 36: Give It All Back to Jesus with Eunice

Happy Thursday, friends! I know there’s a lot of ways you could spend your time, so I’m really grateful you chose to spend it with me. We’re back with Part 2 of my conversation with Eunice! If you haven’t listened to Part 1, pause here and go back to that episode. Eunice shares her history of growing up in Papua New Guinea and her journey to building a strong friendship with Jesus. So much of how her faith progressed leads into today’s episode. I’m so thrilled for you to hear the story of Eunice and her husband JT. BUCKLE UP! Because it’s so good and you’re not going to want to miss a detail of any minute of this next hour and a half. Right after we met, Eunice started sharing just how God had called her to pray for her husband and how praying for her future spouse built her relationship with the Lord. The intricate details God intertwined in her life and JT’s are a picture of what it really looks like to walk with Jesus step by step in faithful obedience. Eunice is honest about the struggles she faced but her story of continuing to trust God’s character and timing has encouraged me so deeply. I know it will uplift you too.

Episode 35: He Is Always Faithful with Eunice

Hello, my friends! Welcome back to another episode of Share Your Story with Ellie. I’m so glad to be back with you today! I apologize in advance for the way my voice sounds– I’ve been couch-ridden for about 5 days but am definitely on the mend! This week on the podcast is a real treat. You’ll have the opportunity to hear my dear friend Eunice’s story. We talk about it briefly, but Eunice and I met about a year ago through a prayer group. Susan Britt, Eunice’s mom Margaret, a woman named Grace, and Eunice all have a prayer group that meets weekly to pray for the nation, pray for one another, and to lead others in healing prayer. A little over a year ago, after sharing some of my struggles with Susan Britt, she suggested I get on this prayer call to dig in deeper for more healing and freedom. And WOW what a game changer! I’m so grateful to have grown up in a praying home and surrounded by community that intercedes on each other’s behalf but to be honest, I’ve really missed it since my mom’s passing. That session and many since have been so life-giving! As is my friendship with Eunice. I think from that very first call, we knew Jesus purposed us to be friends. Her story is one of ultimate faithfulness in just walking step by step in relationship with Jesus through each chapter of life. She’s a fierce prayer warrior, ultimate encourager, gracious listener, and necessary challenger. My faith has grown in being close to Eunice. Today on the show, you’ll hear Part 1 of her story about growing up in Papua New Guinea, seeing God’s faithfulness through her childhood, and deepening her relationship with Jesus, all before her move to the United States. I know you’ll be encouraged and also challenged to grow in your faith as you listen to the first part of Eunice’s story. Follow SYS: SYS on Instagram Ellie on Instagram Ellie on TikTok Ellie's Blog

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! Welcome back to Share Your Story with Ellie. I’m so glad you’re back here for Part 2 of my conversation with Lyndsey. If you missed last Thursdays’ episode, be sure to go back and listen! In Part 1, you’ll learn all about Lyndsey’s photography career. Lyndsey’s goal is to capture the feelings behind life’s big moments, so that each time you look at an image, you’re transported back to that day. Today on the show, we dive into Lyndsey’s other business– leading a sales team for the skincare company NuSkin. This may seem like a random choice, but Lyndsey offers insight into how God intertwined different pieces of her life in order to give her a successful and fulfilling career. I love how she shares how following God’s nudges for her own life led her into these life-giving ventures and how she can share those passions with others. She also shares her advice about starting a business, the importance of defining your “why”, and hope if you’re in the midst of singleness. Happy Thursday, friends! Welcome back to Share Your Story with Ellie. I’m so thankful you joined me! I’m thrilled to have my dear friend Jalissa on the show today. Jalissa, her husband, and her 2 kids live in Norfolk, VA. We met back in 2017 thanks to the Pure Barre Riverside community and have stayed friends through many moves and seasons of life. We’ve had the privilege of working together, doing life together, and laughing along the way. Jalissa is the ultimate hype-woman. She’s the most energetic, always caring for others, and commands a room with confidence. Her attitude and positivity are contagious in the best way possible, and she’s such an example of showing strength through changes– and always with the best style. Her life of moving and raising two littles as a military family shows her resilience and commitment to finding the beautiful moments in all seasons. I LOVE HER, and I know you will too. I’d also love for this episode to serve as a reminder that we need to encourage each other and call out the amazing things we see in our people. I know it was so life-giving for both Jalissa and I to be encouraged by the positive qualities we see in each other, so please share this episode and remind a friend that they’re doing their absolute best with a personal note about something that will uplift them. Episode 28: Our Perfect Father Figure with Frank Keasler

Hello my friends! Welcome back to Share Your Story With Ellie. I’m so glad we’re together this Thursday! Today on the show, I’ve got my new friend Frank Keasler. I, like many others, know him fondly as “Amen Frank” at the Church of Eleven22. He gained his moniker from his boisterous “Amens” that he offers throughout the weekly sermons when a point really hits home. Our church did a feature on him that I’ll link in the show notes, so you can get a glimpse into his story as well as hear the famous “amen” yourself. We’ve become new friends after meeting outside the lobby at church, and I immediately knew he’d be a great person to have on the podcast. He’s passionate about the Lord, serving younger generations, and has the best podcast voice. We jump all around subjects, but I think Frank’s story is both unique and common. Unique in circumstance, but a common tale of finding absolute success only to be left empty, then turning to Jesus in brokenness and finding everything your soul desires. Hi friends! Welcome back to Share Your Story. I’m so glad you’ve joined me for another episode. Today, I am so excited to welcome Darlene Hampton to the show! She is the podcast’s number one fan, and I truly am so blessed by her encouragement– of the podcast and in so many other areas of my life. Darlene is married to Wycke and has two sons, Wade and Reid, as well as a sweet yellow lab, Lee. She’s also a fashion stylist and represents multiple brands and hosts trunk shows from their beautiful home. Darlene has been an integral part of my family for as long as I can remember. She was present at playdates, helping coordinate parties, enjoying lunches and prayer times with my mom, and most importantly supported our family through my mom’s battle with cancer. I love her joyful spirit, her laugh, and her chocolate chip pie, but most of all, I love the way she fiercely protects, provides, and prays for her friends. Darlene pursues people and provides for them in practical ways, while also making sure those around her feel seen and supported. She’s a living example of what it means to walk out the Gospel by loving God’s people, and I’m immensely grateful God placed her in my life to learn from and walk alongside in this journey of life. Her story of adopting two of her children is so beautiful and encouraging. She has so many sweet details that illustrate the picture of God’s faithfulness. This is such an uplifting conversation, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Happy Thursday, friends! Thanks so much for joining me on today’s episode of Share Your Story with Ellie. We’re back with Part 2 of my conversation with Tricia. If you missed part 1, be sure to go back and listen to Trish talk about her story of adoption, growing up in the church, learning from those she served overseas, and how she hears from God. Today’s episode is so much more emotional, so here is your warning now! As we mentioned, we hadn’t seen each other in 3 years, and although we’ve talked and caught up over the phone, the couple of weeks in town was really the first time we had sat and processed our different experiences with losing my mom. But as our conversations typically turn out, we were able to trace back and see God’s faithfulness even in the midst of our pain. Welcome back to Share Your Story with Ellie! Today on the show, you’ll hear Part 1 of my conversation with my dear friend, mentor, and sweet sister Leticia Sandstrom, or as everyone calls her “Trish” or “Trisha”. Trisha lives in North Dakota and works as a nurse while also serving as a leader of her church’s prayer ministry.  She previously served as an overseas missionary with an organization called YWAM, and she continues to share her passion for the global church through short-term missions. She generously loves and serves her family and friends, and above all else, she is committed to growing in relationship with Jesus. I call her my sister, because she lived with our family for two and a half years, when I was in high school. God ordained that time together, and Tricia continues to be a guiding voice in my life as I learn to walk more closely with the Lord. She has a gentle spirit but a fierce command by the power of Christ. She has such a beautiful story, and I cannot wait for you to glean so much wisdom from her. In Part 1, we'll discuss the story of her being adopted, trusting God to walk into missions, learning from the global church, and how to hear from God. As you’re listening to this, I’m on a beach somewhere with my favorite latte, a few good books, and lots of words to be exchanged with God. Gratitude for the gift that is having Jane Boline as my mom. Grief that her story and mine didn’t include her healing on this side of heaven. Groaning for the desires unmet and prayers seemingly unanswered. Glory for all He’s seen me through over the last 1,826 when it felt like all hope was lost. Fair warning, most of this episode is heavy and centers around my mom’s battle with cancer, so I would definitely suggest listening when you have a quiet moment to take it all in for yourself. Episode 17: Living One with Mice with Madeline Kennon

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Share Your Story with Ellie. I’m so glad you decided to join me for today’s episode. My cousin Madeline is back on the podcast to share more of her story! We had the best time recording the M’s + the E’s/Codependents episode over Thanksgiving, and I’m excited for you to learn more about Madeline and her family and her journey through life. Madeline is a wife, a mom of 1 and soon to be 2, an artist, and just the most fun, generous friend. She currently lives in Athens, GA but as you’ll hear in this episode, she’s had quite the path to life back in her hometown. We laughed through so many stories over the years and Madeline shares the wisdom she’s gained from marrying her high school sweetheart, following the Lord’s call throughout her career, and growing through motherhood. I know you’re going to love this conversation with my cousin/sister/friend, Madeline. Episode 16: A Feature Film with The 5BB

Hello my friends! Welcome back to another episode of Share Your Story. On this Friday eve, I have SUCH a fun episode for you. Today on the show I have 4 of my very best friends– Mary Claire, Kelsey, Hannah, and Emily. We originally planned to record this over Christmas break, but schedules got in the way. I wanted to have my best gals on the pod to share our favorite stories and moments from 2023. In true 5BB fashion, this turned into a full blown giggle sesh of reliving the shenanigans and silly situations we got ourselves into over the last year. We essentially recapped the big events of 2023 and did not stop laughing the entire time– so hopefully you can follow along and understand us! I’d also highly encourage you to head to the Share Your Story instagram to see the photos we reference throughout the show. There were so many highs and lows last year, but the continual bright spot was these women and the adventures we had together– whether that was reading books on the beach, traveling around the country, or simply sharing stories over meals. I hope you’ll laugh along with us. Episode 15: A Holy Huddle with Laura Meeks

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’m so glad you’re here. We’re back for Part 2 of my conversation with my Aunt Laura. Last week, Laura shared so much of her story of growing up, coming to faith, and what those first few years of following God looked like. It was so fun for me to hear, and if you haven’t listened yet, I highly recommend you go back and listen to Part 1! Today’s episode wades a lot further in the deep end of our experience in walking alongside my mom in her battle against cancer, as well as what our grieving experiences were like after my mom went home to Heaven. It’s definitely heavy, so I’d encourage you to have some time and space to really listen. You’ll hear me say it, but I’m indescribably grateful for my Aunt Laura during this time. We had such an incredible community of people around us during that season, but she was my go-to teammate on the exceedingly good and excruciatingly hard days. You’ll hear so many of those moments today. So let’s jump right back in where we left off with Laura Meeks. Hello dear friends! Welcome back to the Share Your Story Podcast. I’m your host Ellie B. I hope your 2024 is starting off well! Laura or “Lala” as so many of us like to call her is the youngest of my mom’s 3 siblings, wife to Craig, mom to Madeline, Emma, and their sweet dog Weezie, and owner of Laura Meeks Interior Design. This episode is full of funny stories of growing up as the youngest of 4 and raising two girls at the same time as my mom, but you’ll also learn so much about Laura’s journey with the Lord and walking out her faith through the various seasons of life.  I really learned so much throughout this episode, and I know you will too! Episode 10: The Codependents + The Country Bears with Mary Claire Boline, Madeline Kennon, and Emma Meeks

Happy Tuesday, everyone, and welcome back to Share Your Story with Ellie! I’m your host, Ellie B. We’re back for Part 2 of my conversation with The Codependents aka my sister Mary Claire, and my cousins Madeline and Emma. If you haven’t listened to Part 1, I really encourage you to go back and listen to really understand the foundation of this foursome. You’ll hear  how our relationships with one another developed and honestly, you’ll probably mostly laugh along with us as we retell some of the most ridiculous stories from our childhood. Part 2 is picking up right where we left off last week.  We talk in depth about our individual journeys of faith and losing my mom. This was a really special conversation, because we’d never really sat down and revisited some of our darkest days. Talking through some of the most painful days of our lives brings up so much, but mostly, it reminds me that I’m so thankful we had each other and that we continue to see beauty from ashes. Episode 8: King Curtis 2.0 with Kennedy Blair

Welcome back, friends! I’m so excited you’re here for another episode of Share Your Story with Ellie. Today on the show, you get to hear a conversation with one of my dear friends Kennedy. Kennedy is originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, but moved to Jacksonville a little over a year and a half ago. I knew quickly that Kennedy and I were kindred spirits in that we LOVE to talk and giggle, always find a way to have the best time, and find so much joy in connecting with other people. When I originally planned this episode, I thought our conversation would center around her story of moving and how she connects so well with people, but it turned into something so much deeper and so much greater. Kennedy is absolutely hysterical, light-hearted and FUN, but she’s also a deep well of wisdom who cares deeply for others and ultimately wants to love and follow God wholeheartedly. I can’t wait for you to learn more about her story. Follow Kennedy: Kennedy's Instagram Kennedy's LinkedIn Follow SYS: Podcast Instagram Ellie's Instagram Ellie's Blog

Episode 7: A Friendship Ordained by God with Kelsey Hendricks

Welcome back to Share Your Story with Ellie! I’m your host, Ellie B. Besties Week continues with my best friend and roomie of 6 years, Kelsey. I truly do not even know where to begin to describe Kelsey and the impact her friendship continues to have on my life. Kelsey is truly the best friend everyone wishes they had, and she’s really become my sister. Kelsey is poised and patient. She’s witty and wise. She's gracious and generous. She’s funny and faithful. She’s first to say “yes” to the next fun activity and always first to show up however you need her. We have the MOST fun together, and I couldn’t imagine navigating life without her friendship.  We truly complement each other in the best ways, because our personalities are opposite, but our lives are centered on the same priorities. Over so many years, I've been afraid of being too much. But she shows up and celebrates me for being exactly who I am and even encourages me to be that much more. I know God purposed Kelsey and I to be friends and sisters through this magical and miserable times in our twenties: through seasons of joys, grief, singleness, singing at the top of our lungs, dancing in the kitchen, and so much more.  Kelsey shows me in action how to be a better friend each day, and I know you’ll learn so much about being a friend, offering grace, and pursuing your life with purpose. I am thrilled to invite you into a conversation with my best friend, Kelsey. Episode 6: It Always Comes Back to Happy Hour with Brooke Dovie Gay

Hello friends! Welcome back to another episode of Share Your Story with Ellie! Today on the show, you’ll get to hear one of my best friends, Brooke Dovie Gay, talk through a very important chapter of her story. Brooke has more than 10 years of experience in the design and furniture industry, She is continually captivated by the way textures and furniture blend together to invigorate a space, and she leans on her strategic planning skill sets to share that vision with clients. Brooke served an integral role in launching Industry West Interiors in 2022. Her unique approach to design and dynamic energy drives her to explore out-of-the-box solutions to serve the nuanced needs of each individual project. Brooke has been one of the greatest gifts in my life over the last few years. I have the benefit of spending most of my days with Brooke as coworkers but also as friends. Brooke is the most generous person I know– she gives wholeheartedly to serve other people but also never stops working to better herself. She teaches me to be a better friend with small gifts, sharing the burden of the hard things, and championing people as they chase what’s best for them. I am a better person, because i am so close to Brooke. *A little editor's note before we get started– because I’m still learning! We did run into a few technical difficulties, so there is a bit of an echo. This was my VERY FIRST episode I recorded, and there’s so much I tried to fix, but this is all a process! Also, Brooke FULLY came down with covid the very next day, so the fact that she offered me grace in the recording process and gave so much of herself through this episode is just so emblematic of her as a person. I love her so dearly, and I KNOW you will to. Trailer: Share Your Story with Ellie

Welcome to Share your Story with Ellie! Join Ellie B. as she uncovers the power of testimony as she talks with friends. Stories matter, because they mark memories of this one life we have the honor of living. Stories orient us and offer hope that we won’t remain in the current chapter forever— whether that reminds us to savor and celebrate it or search for purpose in the painful parts of it. Stories also invite us to see the larger narrative God is writing in our lives and in the world. Through this show, you’ll hear: Stories of trauma and triumph Accounts of accidents and accomplishments Chronicles of daily disciplines and dates gone wrong Tales of late nights dancing with friends and early mornings agonizing over a decision This podcast is an invitation to explore how the story unfolds— both in the big moments and the small memories. Ellie prays these episodes offer you a glimpse of compassion and relatability for a single sentence, paragraph, or page of the story of your life. She believes you’ll see elements of yourself in the trials and triumphs of her family, her friends, her people. Above all, she hopes you discover God’s ultimate story of love and redemption as the invisible string through it all. Your story matters.
