    #92 Board Game Accessories

Every game needs a Yugioh-style dueling contraption for your arm so you can game on the go. Gloomhaven would double as a workout. Just imagine how juicy those biceps would get after losing the first scenario for the 10th time on regular difficulty.   Games we played: 5:35 - Friesematenten (2010, Friedemann Friese, Amigo) 9:51 - Shikoku 1889 (2004, Yasutaka Ikeda, Grand Trunk) 16:21 - Brian Boru High King of Ireland (2021, Peer Sylvester, Osprey) 22:36 - DVONN (2001, Kris Burm, HUCH!)   100 games before you die: 26:28 - Terraforming Mars (2016, Jacob Fryxelius, Stronghold) https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/321471/100-tabletop-games-to-play-before-turning-100   Topic: 30:10 - Board Game Accessories   Songs: 100 Games to Play Before You Die by Michael, Tyler, Devon, and Josh of The Boise RainBeaus ROT by Bone Haus https://bonehaus.bandcamp.com/album/in-mourning Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/ShelfStableCast All our socials https://linktr.ee/shelfstablecast

#91 ft. Tom Brewster, Shelfily Steud

It's a board game edition of Family Feud! Tom shaved his head and grew a caterpillar mustache just so the audio would sound aerodynamic. Listen as our poor host inevitably has to explain the rules multiple times as we blunder through.   Rusi Papazov's BGG Feud https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3665080/we-asked-100-boardgamers joshzcold implementation https://github.com/joshzcold/Friendly-Feud   Topic: 3:26 - The Rules 6:51 - Question 1 17:04 - Question 2 27:42 - Question 3 39:07 - Question 4 49:31 - Question 5 58:30 - Question 6 1:06:13 - Fast Money   Where to find Tom: https://web-cdn.bsky.app/profile/tombrewster.bsky.social https://www.shutupandsitdown.com   Songs: ROT by Bone Haus https://bonehaus.bandcamp.com/album/in-mourning Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/ShelfStableCast All our socials https://linktr.ee/shelfstablecast

    #90 I'm Right You're Wrong

Welcome new listeners from BGG. If you're wondering whether this is truly an award nominated board gaming podcast, I assure you, we definitely only talk about board games and we are very serious about it. (Psst, hey if you're reading this, that means you have the special Slophead power. It's like those magic eye puzzles but you can only read it if you've enjoyed Monopoly DEAL. Don't worry, that first message was just a trap I set for unsuspecting Geeksters. We definitely got your Bionicle needs covered. Bionicles: are they shrinky-dink? Are they dope? Are those Pohatu's fingers or are they guns? Is the entire franchise problematic? All this and more unveiled on this juicy mess of a 'sode.)   Games we played: 3:16 - Mamma Mia! #87 Games That Were Ruined for Us

If you're having second thoughts about that one comfort game your best friend always brings to game night, might I recommend a warm glass of milk? Tip... SPLASH. Oh my goodness no! What have you done? I meant a glass of milk to sip and calm your nerves! How could you just go and destroy best friend's deluxified copy of Splendor? It's signed by the designer and by five of the worlds greatest gem cutters. Literally a family heirloom passed on from three generations. What are we going to do? Do you have a blow dryer on you?   Games we played: 9:34 - Time Barons (2014, Jon Perry & Derek Yu, WizKids) 14:36 - Age of Rail South Africa of South African Railroads (2011, John Bohrer, Capstone) 26:35 - QE (2019, Gavin Birnbaum, BoardGameTables) 32:35 - The Lord of the Rings The Confrontation (2005, Reiner Knizia, Fantasy Flight)   100 games before you die: 37:25 - Grand Austria Hotel (2015, Virginio Gigli & Simone Luciani, Lookout) https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/321471/100-tabletop-games-to-play-before-turning-100   Topic: 42:39 - Games That Were Ruined for Us   Songs: 100 Games to Play Before You Die by Michael, Tyler, Devon, and Josh of The Boise RainBeaus ROT by Bone Haus https://bonehaus.bandcamp.com/album/in-mourning Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/ShelfStableCast All our socials https://linktr.ee/shelfstablecast

    #86 UnstAIble Shelf

Sam Altman turns to the crowd and motions. "For 2027, we're revealing our most exicting evolution yet... humanity will be optional." The crowd errupts in applause. The keynote stage fades to black as an electro swing remix of Hi-Ho from Snow White begins blasting at full volume. DISCLAIMER: this episode is satire. Everything we do is human made. We do not cover games that use AI art. We are opposed to the plagiarisation of people's hard work, the environmental impact, and the cocktail that is unregulated bias + misinformation + lack of accountability in these generative models that are being force fed down our thoats. #84 Characteristics of Games Pt. 4

As a mentat myself, I feel like mentats are commonly misunderstood. Not surprising as we are just so far superior in intellect to the average peon. Coincidence that mentat and mensa are such similar words? I think not.   Games we played: 2:39 - Neuroshima Hex (2006, Michał Oracz, Portal) 8:29 - Pandemic Legacy Season 1 (2015, Rob Daviau & Matt Leacock, Z-Man) 12:08 - JUMP HERE FOR SPOILER FREE 15:07 - Yokohama (2016, Hisashi Hayashi, Synapses) 21:42 - Cosmic Wimpout (1975, Boston Logical Society & W.W. #83 ft. Spice8Rack, Being Bad at Games

A dark anime cloud deepens in the background as Tom loses yet another game of Food Chain Magnate. I don't want to alarm anyone, but Twilight Sparkle did not approve of this episode. Not even the joyous revolt of Spice8Rack is enought to counter the "I should have won" resonating in Tom's dark psyche. Will our heroes ever find solace in just being bad?   6:31 - Intro: Spice8Rack   8:59 - We Have to Know!   Games we played: 32:15 - The King's Dilemma (2019, Hjalmar Hach & Lorenzo Silva, Horrible Guild)   Topic: 38:26 - Being Bad at Games   Where to find Spice8Rack: Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@Spice8Rack Bluesky https://bsky.app/profile/spice8rack.bsky.social Where to find Acorn: https://acorninternational.org   Songs: ROT by Bone Haus https://bonehaus.bandcamp.com/album/in-mourning Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/ShelfStableCast All our socials https://linktr.ee/shelfstablecast

    #82 That One Little Rule

We gotta record our podcast a thousand times like Tom Lehmann did with Race. Maybe at that point older couples will be playing it before they go to sleep. Don't listen to this one in a public setting, it might just make you blush... from all the anger you're experiencing at our incapacity to produce a successful date. What if I told you there were more games than just Tiddlywinks and hitting a ball with a stick? Today we explore the wild world of board gaming or "tabletop gaming" as some people "in the hobby" call it. It turns out that board games have gotten pretty interesting and complicated since we were kids. Move over dice and spinners and say hello to Death Note moments and piss cubes. December 31, 2026. Tom has the build of that one doge meme. Regular body. Swollen, muscular arms. #72: ft. Eize Basa, 12* Games for the Holidays

#59 Why Kickstarter is Actually Okay

If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask you for a niche board game. When you give him the board game, he'll ask for deluxe components. When you make him the components, he'll ask where the stretch goals are. When you invent some stretch goals, he'll tell you that this platform has gotten out of hand. And then he'll be thirsty from all his yapping so he'll ask for a glass of milk. On one hand it's an excellent game, but on the other it sets a dangerous precedent a la Beetlejuice. He can just say something enough times and it materializes like some kind of antithetical podcast ghost. I'm going to have to go back to the lab for this one and figure out how to handle future manifestations of this SCP. Maybe a little bit of Jay Leno will help.   Games we played: 5:15 - Babylonia (2019, Reiner Knizia, Ludonova) 9:37 - Brass (2007, Martin Wallace, Warfrog) 16:08 - Linko (2014, Michael Kiesling & Wolfgang Kramer, Amigo) 19:08 - Monikers (2015, Alex Hague & Justin Vickers, CMYK)   100 games before you die (kinda): 22:15 - Response to CGE Marceline Leiman's zine https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10BUxxRO08jS9ZFnfnt0dnMPEZi5lrwke Meaning of trans rights https://www.reddit.com/r/asktransgender/comments/11f0pmy/what_do_people_mean_when_they_say_transrights/ Contribute to the BGG discussion https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3553665/blacklist-cge   Topic: 37:15 - Online Games The medium is the message https://boardgamegeek.com/blog/6343/blogpost/174872/the-physical-game-and-its-digital-implementation-a   Songs: 100 Games to Play Before You Die by Michael, Tyler, Devon, and Josh of The Boise RainBeaus ROT by Bone Haus https://bonehaus.bandcamp.com/album/in-mourning Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/ShelfStableCast All our socials https://linktr.ee/shelfstablecast

#47 ft. Tom Brewster, Iteration and Innovation

Lesser Tom is joined by the Tomb Rewster of Shut Up & Sit Down fame this week to talk board games (shock) and video/podcast creation. Listen in on some Type III fun as we get into the nitty gritty of Cuppy Flicky 2. Wait- where is the typical deranged show note synopsis? Not this week buddy. I had a relaxing weekend and wrote this baby up while there was still daylight to spare. Better luck next time you bog-guzzling creep.   9:48 - Intro: Tom Brewster 13:04 - We Have to Know!   Games we played: 53:51 - Innovation (2010, Carl Chudyk, Asmadi) Fall Out Boy didn't cringe the fire https://youtu.be/2LkVKCWL0U4?feature=shared   Topic: 1:05:38 - Iteration and Innovation   Where to find Tom: https://web-cdn.bsky.app/profile/tombrewster.bsky.social https://www.shutupandsitdown.com   Songs: ROT by Bone Haus https://bonehaus.bandcamp.com/album/in-mourning Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/ShelfStableCast All our socials https://linktr.ee/shelfstablecast

Tom may have had some weird takes, but he was a good person. Today we honor his memory as he would have wanted us to: by participating in the unholy ritual he bestowed upon the listenership on that fateful June morning. Just a hypothetical. Tom and Kenny can neither confirm nor deny that there is an impending robot invasion. Prepare you bodies with meat-grinder-proof materials and essences. #43 The Wildest Games We Know

I can't wait for the sick and twisted fan that is going to mash up all the games we talk about on this episode into one big megagame. I'll get my duel disc and we can hit the playground after school. 0-2 players, nose snakes included.   Games we played: 3:04 - Sentient (2017, J.
