She´s Excited!

SHAPE SHFTR It is a ten minute piece consisting of five shapes: (PERI), the mystical creature (DERVISH), the spiritual seeker (NPC), the non-player character (WOMAN). me (INFORMANT), the shadowy figure hiding between knowledge and betrayal I wrote this work in a creative frenzy of five days, using only a single Ableton project, simply going on and on, staying in the flow of now, not worrying about what should come next. The whole piece simply unfolded organically, I wrote the lyrics while coming up with the vocal lines, most of it are first take recordings. I wanted the piece to be raw, powerful, angry, vulnerable, honest. A way of direct expression and connectivity to inspiration, without having a clue where ideas come from. The third song from my new instrumental EP called INK. A soundtrack for dark nights and bright lights.

Blots is a mesmerizing trail to explore, a hollow lead, an energizing escape. The track is from my EP called INK: It is completely instrumental, a soundtrack of a sort, an experiment with distortion and a return to dark electronica.

This is the title track of my new instrumental EP called INK. In between projects I felt the urge to experiment with distortion and compose only with instruments I had never used before. Just for fun. Just for enjoying the creative part of making music. I ended up with three compositions that I grew very fond of. A soundtrack for dark nights. A surge of anger and defiance. A desire to rest. I hope you'll enjoy the work and that it can become your soundtrack somehow, too.

This is a sound sculpture by She's Excited! featuring Clara Francesca for the exhibition #MakeUsVisible in Venice, Italy. It is showcased at the Off-Biennale at the Venice Climate Change Pavilion. “Entangled Waters” by She’s Excited! invites you on an immersive journey into the sounds of the mediterranean sea and the Venice lagoon. Peaceful soundscapes of seagulls and the ocean are juxtaposed with the threatening reality the lagoon is facing: noise and water pollution, thunderstorms and high water. Some 20 million visitors flood into Venice each year. Vaporettos and other ships disrupt flora and fauna. The sea levels are rising and Venice is sinking. There is no Planet B. We are inescapably entangled with our surroundings and our environment. The soundbites performed by Clara Francesca are from Anton Chekhov’s play “Uncle Vanya” and from Donna Haraway’s “Staying With The Trouble”: This is an urgency, not an emergency. Stay with the trouble. “Entangled Waters” is an iteration of the soundscape for the performance art piece “Inescapable Entanglement” by MEDIACOELI and XRE, which premiered at Ars Electronica Festival 2022. This is a sound sculpture by She's Excited! featuring Clara Francesca and a visual by Gretta Louw for the exhibition #MakeUsVisible x denkFEmale in Munich, Germany, curated by Anne Wichmann, Tabitha Nagy and Amadea Pely. "The sound and visual monument “Vortex: Jenny Marx” by She’s Excited! (sound and production), Clara Francesca (voice) and Gretta Louw (visuals) honors the German socialist Jenny von Westphalen, Karl Marx’s wife. If you listen with headphones, you can hear that a vortex of deep sounds and depressive thoughts (sourced from Jenny's letters) is juxtaposed with sparkling high synthesizers rising towards the center, representing Jenny’s longing for a lighter life and unconditional love. The visual element is a digital painting that incorporates nature photography and various algorithmic tools and digital collaging techniques. It is positioned on the floor of the AR installation to both delineate a space within which the sound can be experienced and invite the viewer into the subject, Jenny Marx's imagined psychological territory. Clara Francesca writes: “Jenny Marx and I share the same birthday 175 years apart, and a passion to find complementarity between private wealth and commonwealth. I have become obsessed exploring the dualities of darkness/light, pain/pleasure, assertion/surrender, permanence/impermanence, mental distortion/mental hygiene. I have come to view Jenny as a vehicle through which to advocate for the value of humanity: for the valuable human.” The monument is placed by the Heinrich-Heine-Fountain in Munich, because Jenny was good friends with poet Heine. By this foundtain, there is a physical statue of a woman sitting literally behind bars at Finanzgarten Munich, adding allegorical illusions to Jenny's life." www.makeusvisible.io/munich

I still remember when I heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time. I actually saw the music video on MTV in the middle of the night. "What a weird video!" is what I thought. (Sports/Club/College culture is very different in Germany lol). But the music blew my mind. At that time I was a singer in a Stoner Rock band, while recording Pop tunes for my solo project. This song was just a perfect fusion of my two worlds. Here is my take on it. It's song number 4 on my EP "My Own Crazy". The original is perfect, so I did not seek to copy it. My goal was to reimagine it within my own style. My wonderful friend Bettina plays the saxophone on the song, which gives it just what it needs, I think. New EP "My Own Crazy" is out now! Woot! I am so happy to share some of my own crazy with you through these songs and this album. All my heart is in these tunes, and a lot of sweat as well. I truly hope you will enjoy the mix of dark electronic music and uplifting vibes. With this music I continue to explore dark realms (musically and personally) while holding space for positivity and invigorating energy. “My Own Crazy” is a trip down the road to my inner self, while reflecting upon how to stand my ground as a compassionate and emotional individual in our confusing world of material and superficial success. Infuse these vibes into a song that also includes original sounds I recorded at the place. Film what I see and experience and edit a video to the song so that you can be there with me. And include a little tutorial for beginners to show you how I work. Combining all that, I created the series "Traveling Musician". The first episode is about Tokyo. I strongly felt a juxtaposition of formality in public life and work and a wonderful and crazy nightlife with lots of laughter and openness. I also thought about David Bowie's albums in the late 70ies ("I'm under Japanese influence" - Blackout), especially the "Heroes" album, and how they used drum snippets and fills on that album. My drum programming is a little tribute to that. Have fun diving into the experience with me!
