by Side One/Side B with Dave & Steve
A punk and a metalhead started a podcast because they want to show each other records and they both have ADHD and need to make the other listen to and now they're going to make you listen to them. Side One/Side B with Dave & Steve is a podcast put together with two bandmates with ADHD who have a similar Venn diagram of music tastes, but Dave comes at it from the punk perspective and Steve from the heavy metal perspective. It’s kind of like crossfire, except we don’t hate each other, or make Jon Stewart sad.

"We've seem to lost our contact. All connections are cut. Oh, Houston do you read? I now can't breath." this week Steve brings in a record from a San Diego hardcore group that infused a bit of jazz in to their sound. SWING KIDS - ANTHOLOGY (2020)
Send us Fan MailAnthology | Swing KidsSWING KIDS – Three One G RecordsThis is a follow-up to our bonus EP episode on the precursor to this band STRUGGLESwing Kids formed in the mid 90’s out of a mix of obscure punk, hardcore, and geography-specific social politics. The band, made up of Justin Pearson, Jose Palafox, John Brady and Eric Allen drew inspiration from jazz and swing era ethics, creating a strand of genre-defying music. The band was short lived, documenting their entire existence in a handful of songs/releases over a couple of years. One of Three One G’s earliest releases was Swing Kids’ S/T 7” EP, which featured four original tracks as well as a harsh version of Joy Division’s “Warsaw”. Soon after the band released this EP, they followed up with a split 10” EP with Spanakorzo, which shared band member John Brady. After a few short tours and a jaunt over to Europe, the band called it quits due to drummer Jose Palafox relocating to the Bay Area. Swing Kids did manage to track one last song, “El Camino Car Crash” which is the additional track on the digital follow-up of the band’s entire collection, simply titled “Discography”. Over the years, this nine-song collection would become a staple for the Three One G community. After the sudden and immense loss of founding member Eric Allen, the band reformed to play two charity shows in his memory, and the documentation of this final chapter was a self-titled 7” single featuring an updated version of “Situation on Mars” as well as a new track titled, “Fake Teeth”. For the first time, all of these tracks have been remastered by Brent Asbury and are in one physical release, the complete “Anthology”.Support the showCheck out our post-punk band The Alliterates new song The House Came Crashing Down on the Vol 1: Let's Begin compilation from Shift-Ctrl-MusicCheck out our cover of Child's Christmas in Wales (OG by John Cale) on Chaos For Christmas from Rejected Youth RecordsSteve's WebsiteOur InstagramsDaveSteveThe AlliteratesBlueskyDaveSteveFacebookSteveThe AlliteratesLucid FugueBuy our theme songNon-Euclidean Pornography | Lucid Fugue (bandcamp.com)

"This is the story of the hare who lost his spectacles" this week our guest Dan brings in an album that is disliked by the band that created it! We're looking at A PASSION PLAY (1973) by English prog rock group JETHRO TULL!
Send us Fan MailCheck out Dan's project October Owl. A Passion Play is the sixth studio album by British progressive rock band Jethro Tull, released in July 1973 on Chrysalis Records.Following in the same style as the band's previous album Thick as a Brick (1972), A Passion Play is a concept album comprising individual songs arranged into a single continuous piece of music (which was split into two parts across the original vinyl release's two sides). The album's concept follows the spiritual journey of a recently deceased man in the afterlife, exploring themes of morality, religion and good and evil. The album's accompanying tour was considered the high water mark of Jethro Tull's elaborate stage productions, involving a full performance of the album accompanied by physical props, sketches and projected video.[3]A Passion Play was negatively received by critics upon its initial release. However the album was a commercial success, becoming Jethro Tull's second number one album in the United States. The album has since received a more positive critical reassessment, and has become a cult favorite among some fans of the band.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Passion_Play?scrlybrkr=9d36c6e7Support the showCheck out our post-punk band The Alliterates new song The House Came Crashing Down on the Vol 1: Let's Begin compilation from Shift-Ctrl-MusicCheck out our cover of Child's Christmas in Wales (OG by John Cale) on Chaos For Christmas from Rejected Youth RecordsSteve's WebsiteOur InstagramsDaveSteveThe AlliteratesBlueskyDaveSteveFacebookSteveThe AlliteratesLucid FugueBuy our theme songNon-Euclidean Pornography | Lucid Fugue (bandcamp.com)

"Men of good fortune often cause empires to fall, while men of poor beginnings often can't do anything at all" this week Sean brings in an album with a very sad story. We're looking at BERLIN (1973) by LOU REED
Send us Fan MailBerlin is the third solo studio album by American rock musician Lou Reed, released in October 1973 by RCA Records. A concept album, Berlin tells the story of a couple's struggle with abuse and drug addiction. Initially, critical reception was mixed but appraisals of the album have warmed over the years: in 1973 Rolling Stone declared the album "a disaster", but by 2012 the album was ranked No. 344 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_(Lou_Reed_album)Support the showCheck out our post-punk band The Alliterates new song The House Came Crashing Down on the Vol 1: Let's Begin compilation from Shift-Ctrl-MusicCheck out our cover of Child's Christmas in Wales (OG by John Cale) on Chaos For Christmas from Rejected Youth RecordsSteve's WebsiteOur InstagramsDaveSteveThe AlliteratesBlueskyDaveSteveFacebookSteveThe AlliteratesLucid FugueBuy our theme songNon-Euclidean Pornography | Lucid Fugue (bandcamp.com)

"I am an incurable, and nothing else behaves like me." this week Dave brings in a Scat record! We're looking at BEE THOUSAND (1994) by Ohio based Indie Rock band GUIDED BY VOICES
Send us Fan MailBee Thousand is the seventh album by American indie rock band Guided by Voices, released on June 21, 1994, on Scat Records. After its release the band became one of the more prominent groups associated with the "lo-fi" genre, a movement defined by the relatively low fidelity of audio releases. Musically, the album draws inspiration from British Invasion-era rock music and punk rock. Following the release of Bee Thousand, the band began to attract interest from other record labels, eventually signing with Matador for their next album.Support the showCheck out our post-punk band The Alliterates new song The House Came Crashing Down on the Vol 1: Let's Begin compilation from Shift-Ctrl-MusicCheck out our cover of Child's Christmas in Wales (OG by John Cale) on Chaos For Christmas from Rejected Youth RecordsSteve's WebsiteOur InstagramsDaveSteveThe AlliteratesBlueskyDaveSteveFacebookSteveThe AlliteratesLucid FugueBuy our theme songNon-Euclidean Pornography | Lucid Fugue (bandcamp.com)

"Touched by the toil and plunged into his arm, cursed thru the night through eyes of alarm." this week Pete joins us and we take a look at LOVE IT TO DEATH (1971) by the ALICE COOPER band!
Send us Fan MailLove It to Death is the third studio album by American rock band Alice Cooper, released on March 9, 1971. It was the band's first commercially successful album and the first album that consolidated the band's aggressive hard-rocking sound, instead of the psychedelic and experimental rock style of their first two albums. The album's best-known track, "I'm Eighteen", was released as a single to test the band's commercial viability before the album was recorded. The original album cover featured the singer Cooper posed with his thumb protruding so it appeared to be his penis; Warner Bros. soon replaced it with a censored version. Ezrin and the Coopers continued to work together for a string of hit albums until the band's breakup in 1974. The album has come to be seen as a foundational influence on hard rock, punk, and heavy metal; several tracks have become live Alice Cooper standards and are frequently covered by other bands.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_It_to_DeathSupport the showCheck out our post-punk band The Alliterates new song The House Came Crashing Down on the Vol 1: Let's Begin compilation from Shift-Ctrl-MusicCheck out our cover of Child's Christmas in Wales (OG by John Cale) on Chaos For Christmas from Rejected Youth RecordsSteve's WebsiteOur InstagramsDaveSteveThe AlliteratesBlueskyDaveSteveFacebookSteveThe AlliteratesLucid FugueBuy our theme songNon-Euclidean Pornography | Lucid Fugue (bandcamp.com)
