The return, according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post, is a 1st round pick in this year’s draft to be taken later tonight (#26), a 3rd round pick in this year’s draft to be taken tomorrow (#92), and a 2028 1st round pick that is top-10 protected. Dorofeyev scored 37 goals in the regular season this year while scoring 35 last season. He also added 12 goals in 22 playoff games this postseason. Per Elliotte Friedman, Dorofeyev is expected to sign a seven-year, $11 million AAV contract in New York. Recap: The Golden Knights were facing elimination and needed a victory in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final to stay alive. Carolina struck first a few minutes into the game. The Golden Knights killed off two first penalties to hold the Hurricanes lead at 1-0. Vegas began the middle frame on the power play but failed to find the back of the net. Late in the period Carolina scored to take a 2-0 in the intermission. The Golden Knights struggled to create shots but had a great power play chance but Jack Eichel hit the crossbar. With a minute remaining in Game 6 the Hurricanes added an empty net goal. The Hurricanes defeat the Golden Knights 3-0 and capture their second Stanley Cup trophy in team history. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: It just wasn’t to be on this night. Carolina came out hot and Brandon Bussi along with a whirlwind of puck luck kept the Golden Knights out all night. It’s hard to believe after what we all witness for the last 2 months, but the Hurricanes were simply a better team. Recap: The Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes faced up for a crucial Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final in Raleigh. In the opening seven minute of the game Pavel Dorofeyev gave Vegas a 1-0 edge on the power play. A handful of shifts later the Hurricanes answered right back. After twenty minutes Game 5 was locked in a 1-1 tie. Carolina snapped the tie deep into the second frame to take their first lead of the game. Late in the period the Hurricanes scored to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Trailing 3-1, the Golden Knights committed a costly penalty which the Hurricanes took advantage. Dorofeyev scored his second of the game to make it a 4-2 Carolina advantage. Vegas emptied their net with a late game power play but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Hurricanes take a 3-2 Stanley Cup Final lead by defeating the Golden Knights 4-2 in Raleigh. Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Sunday at 5PM PT at T-Mobile Arena. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: The Golden Knights finally figured out how to start a game better against a Hurricanes team that’s extremely hard to keep from running over you in the 1st period. The problem is that the dominance in the 2nd period vanished and it was mostly because of untimely penalties. Lauzon took a bad one, then after VGK killed that one, McNabb took another and the Canes capitalized. It’s hard to keep games from snowballing in Raleigh and that’s exactly what happened. Carolina potted another in the 2nd and then another penalty gave them 4-minutes to essentially seal the game. VGK are in a dangerous hole, and will now have to win twice in a row against a team that hasn’t lost two straight since January. This team never says die though, there’s no way they are rolling over on Sunday easily. Recap: The Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes paired up for a crucial Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final in Las Vegas. Carolina quickly took a 2-0 advantage immediately in the opening frame. Captain Mark Stone cut the Hurricanes lead in half with his seventh goal of the postseason. Carolina regained their two-goal edge five minutes later. The Golden Knights thought they had scored again but the puck didn’t cross the goal line before the period expired. In the opening five minutes of the middle frame William Karlsson scored to make it a 3-2 Carolina lead. Brett Howden tied the game late into the period with his 14th ok goal of the postseason. Carolina snapped the tie 6:32 into the final period. Vegas had several quality chances but couldn’t find the game tying goal. Eventually, the Hurricanes added an empty net score to end the game 5-3. The Hurricanes tie the Stanley Cup Final 2-2 by defeating the Golden Knights 5-3 in Las Vegas. Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Thursday at 5PM PT in Raleigh. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: It’s been a story through the first four games of this series. The Canes start fast, VGK respond in the middle frame, and then Carolina gets the better of it in the 3rd. Fortunately, for Vegas they’ve been able take advantage of the middle frame dominance enough to walk away with a pair of wins (playing well in 2 OT helped). The balance of play has continued to go about the same where Carolina has a little better of the play more often than the Golden Knights, but VGK have been better at finishing their chances. On this night, it wasn’t enough as a few breaks went the way of Carolina including a VGK goal that was 0.1 seconds late in the 1st. Recap: The Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes matched up for crucial Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final in Las Vegas. Both teams traded shots in the opening frame but neither had many quality chances. After 20 minutes the game was locked in a scoreless tie. Vegas believed it had taken a 1-0 lead off a Mark Stone break, but the goal was called back for offside. Minutes later, the Golden Knights had another goal waived off for goaltender interference. The puck luck began to bounce for Vegas. First, Tomas Hertl capitalized on the power play after Carolina was caught with too many men on the ice. 14 seconds later Mitch Marner was credited with a goal that went off of a Hurricanes stick. Marner stretched Vegas’ lead to 3-0 several shifts later. He completed the natural hat trick with a third goal in the period. Marner’s three consecutive goals were the fastest hat trick in the Stanley Cup Final’s history. Leading 4-0, the Golden Knights protected their advantage in the final frame. Marner was awarded a penalty shot but failed to score his fourth goal of Game 3. Carolina added four unanswered goals to make it an improbable 4-4 tie. Overtime was tight and each team limited chances. Which led to a second OT of Game 3. In second OT, Shea Theodore fired a puck wide off the back wall, it got deflected towards the goal and went into the net. The Golden Knights take a 2-1 lead in the Final by defeating the Hurricanes 5-4 in double OT. Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Tuesday at 5 PM in Las Vegas. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: Similar to Games 1 and 2, the Hurricanes came out hot to start the 1st period and VGK looked like they were trying to hang on. But, the moment the 2nd period has begun in this series, the Golden Knights have absolutely dominated. They scored goal after goal after goal and even when challenges would take them off, it didn’t matter. Marner recorded the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history and became the first player with four points in Cup Final period since 1919. Unfortunaely, the 3rd period hasn’t been VGK’s friend, and they gave away one of the biggest leads in franchise history. However, this team does not know how to go away. Recap: The Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes paired up for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final in Raleigh. Brett Howden opened the scoring on Vegas’ second shot of the contest. Howden snapped his playoff-leading 12th goal to give Vegas the first lead of Game 2. Howden scored his second goal, and 13th of the postseason, 7:23 into the middle frame to take the crowd completely out of the game. Vegas forced Carolina into poor shots and held them scoreless through 40 minutes. The Golden Knights took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission. Vegas fought off several chances from Carolina, but the home team couldn’t get past VGK’s defense. On their fifth shot of the period, the Hurricanes cut the Golden Knights in half. A few shifts later Carolina tied the game at 2-2. The Hurricanes took a brief 3-2 lead, but captain Mark Stone tied the game late to force overtime. Under four minutes into OT Carolina scored the game-winning goal. The Hurricanes tie the series by defeating the Golden Knights 4-3 in OT. Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Saturday at 5 PM PT in Las Vegas. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: An absolute masterpiece defensively had the Golden Knights staring at a runaway victory. For 50 minutes it looked like the Canes had no idea how to generate offense. Then, a forecheck play turned it around and VGK sort of went into a shell trying to keep the one-goal lead. That didn’t work, then a dubious challenge gave the Canes another PP chance and they capitalized. This Golden Knights team have that cockroach in them though; they just will not die. Well, at least not that easily. In OT, Carolina continued their pressure and snatched it. Recap: The Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes faced off in Raleigh, NC for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. Carolina took an immediate 1-0 lead in the opening minute of Game 1. The Hurricanes doubled their lead past the midway point of the 1st period. 80 seconds later, Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore cut into Carolina’s lead with a deflected point shot to make it 2-1. Ivan Barbahsev tied the game quickly into the middle frame. Minutes later, William Karlsson gave Vegas their first lead of Game 1. Carolina scored later in the period to tie the game 3-3. Vegas’ Brett Howden continued his strong postseason with the go-ahead goal 1:21 into the final period. Carolina wouldn’t go away and tied the with under ten minutes to play. Tomas Hertl broke the 4-4 tie with a clutch late-game-winning goal. The Golden Knights take a 1-0 lead in the Final by defeating the Hurricanes 5-4 in Raleigh. Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for Thursday at 5PM PT in North Carolina. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: Carolina dominated the early part of the 1st period, then VGK dominated the early part of the 2nd period. Each time found a way to control the game in their own way for decently long stretches and both were opportunistic with their chances. VGK continued to find ways to generate chances in the 3rd period and a couple of magnificent passes from Shea Theodore and Colton Sissons set up Brett Howden and Tomas Hertl for go-ahead goals. The 6-on-5 defense was outstanding once again and VGK have swept Game 1’s in the 2026 playoffs. Recap: The Golden Knights were playing for sweep with a victory over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 4. Vegas’ captain Mark Stone struck first with his fifth goal of the postseason. Both teams traded power play opportunities but neither could find the back of the net. After 40 minutes, the Golden Knights remained ahead 1-0. Vegas held Colorado to one shot on net in the majority of the final frame. Cole Smith added VGK’s second goal to essentially lock up the sweep. Colorado tipped a puck home to bring it within one, but could not get any closer. The Golden Knights have secured their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final. The Golden Knights swept the Avalanche to become the 2026 Western Conference Champion. Vegas will now prepare for the Stanley Cup Final beginning in early June. It’ll be the Golden Knights third trip to the Stanley Cup Final.(Recap by Jason) Analysis: There’s just something about closeout games that brings out the best in the Golden Knights. They were absolutely brilliant in Game 4, laying the wood on the Avs in every way possible. They got the early goal and it took a while to build on it and eventually slam the door shut on Colorado’s Presidents’ Trophy-winning season, but they finally did in the 3rd period. VGK were stupendous along the walls and in loose pucks and it left Colorado dazed and confused. The Golden Knights are the Western Conference Champions and they are heading to the Stanley Cup Final next week in Carolina or Montreal. Recap: The Golden Knights were playing for a commanding 3-0 series lead of the Western Conference Finals with a victory in Game 3. The desperate Avalanche struck first early in the opening period. Minutes later Colorado took a 2-0 advantage. Vegas believed they had cut the deficit in half but Pavel Dorofeyev’s goal was waived off. Seconds later the Avalanche added a shorthanded score to make it 3-0. In his first game back since Game 1, Mark Stone cut into Colorado’s lead early on a 2nd period power play. Several shifts later William Karlsson scored his first goal of the postseason to get Vegas within one. Later in the frame Keegan Kolesar tied the game 3-3 with his first Goal of the playoffs. Close to the midway point of the final frame Tomas Hertl gave Vegas their first lead of the game. Brett Howden added the late empty net goal to seal the game. Recap: The Golden Knights were searching for a 2-0 series lead of the Western Conference Finals with a victory in Game 2. Colorado struck first with under five minutes left in the opening frame. After 20 minutes, the Avalanche held a 1-0 edge. Colorado committed two penalties on way play setting Vegas up with a four-minute power play, but the visitors committed their own infraction and failed to score. The middle frame was full of penalties from each team. However, neither could find the back of the net, and the score remained the same after two periods. Vegas had several chances in the first half of the third period but couldn’t tie the game. Later in the frame, Jack Eichel tied the score with his second goal of the playoffs. Minutes later Ivan Barbashev gave Vegas their first lead of the game. Barbashev nailed an empty-netter and defeated Colorado 3-1. The Golden Knights take a 2-0 series lead by defeating the Avalanche 3-1 in Colorado. Game 3 of the Western Conference finals is scheduled for Sunday at 5 PM PT from T-Mobile Arena. Each team traded chances throughout the first frame, but neither could find the back of the net. Both were awarded a power play but failed to convert their opportunities into any goals. After 20 minutes, the game was locked in a scoreless tie. Past the midway point of the 2nd period Dylan Coghlan snapped the scoreless tie with his first goal of the postseason. Minutes later postseason goal leader Pavel Dorofeyev added to his total by scoring his 10th on the power play. Early in the final frame Vegas took a 3-0 advantage. Colorado fought back and got within one. With under a minute Nic Dowd finished off the game with an empty net goal. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: What an opening game for the Golden Knights. They successfully turned the game into a low-event style and limited the Avs chances off the rush. Then, when they had a couple of looks, they were able to capitalize in the 2nd period. Frustrating Colorado is so important for VGK in this series and they were able to do it as each period wore on. Carter Hart had a really strong game, especially with his glove that erased a lot of the best looks from Colorado. That being said, VGK were also excellent at keeping those chances to the outside and winning on second chances in front of him. The Avs had a push once the game got to 3-0, and Vegas are going to have to be ready for even more of it in Game 2, but for tonight tremendous game all around for the Golden Knights who are now full of belief that they can not only keep up with this team, but take them down. Recap: The Golden Knights were trying to extend their series lead to 3-1 with a victory over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 4. The Ducks olenwd the scoring with their first power play goal of the series. However, Pavel Dorofeyev scored a power play goal of his own to tie the game 1-1 midway through the period. With under five minutes remaining the Ducks scored to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Early into the middle frame Vegas’ leading goal scorer Brett Howden evened the score with his seventh goal of the postseason. Anaheim regained their lead with a late period power play goal. The Golden Knights began the final 20 minutes on the power play but couldn’t score. A minute later the Ducks took a crushing 4-2 advantage. Vegas got within one with Tomas Hertl’s first goal in an eternity but couldn’t get any closer. The Ducks even the series at 2-2 by defeating the Golden Knights 4-3 in Anaheim. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: Honestly didn’t hate that game from VGK’s perspective. They played the game with a bunch of speed and looked dangerous most of the times they were in the offensive zone. Defensively, the blocking game was back on and if it weren’t for some goofy hops and seeing-eye pucks it would have gotten the job done. Special teams was really the biggest disappointment as the PK finally broke and the power play couldn’t bail them out, especially on the two in the 3rd period. Series is tied, VGK are coming home. Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to take a 2-1 series lead with a Game 3 victory over the Ducks in Anaheim. Vegas struck immediately into the game to take the opening lead of the game. Shea Theodore recorded his third goal of the postseason just :66 seconds into Game 3. The Golden Knights added a second goal 11 minutes later on the penalty kill. Brayden McNabb snapped a shorthanded goal to give Vegas a 2-0 advantage. With :05 seconds left in the opening frame, Mitch Marner added his fourth goal of the playoffs. Marner added his second goal of the evening midway through the middle frame to stretch VGK’s lead to 4-0. Several shifts later Marner finished off the hat trick, giving the Golden Knights a 5-0 lead through 40 minutes. Anaheim snapped Vegas’ shutout early in the final frame to get within four goals. The 1st period was a little more open than VGK might prefer, however they were the far more opportunistic team and found a way to pot three goals on seven shots. Carter Hart was crucial in keeping the game at bay for a while and the penalty kill once again rose to the occasion impressively. VGK struggled to win to races, left the neutral zone too open, and allowed the ANA forecheck to create some turnovers. Fortunately, goalies are people too, and Hart was excellent behind VGK’s defense to clean up each and every mistake (with a little help from Jackson LaCombe’s unwillingness to shoot). In the end, the game came down to a blown call by the linesman that led directly to VGK’s go-ahead goal. Recap: The Golden Knights were seeking to eliminate the Mammoth with a Game 6 victory in Utah. 15 minutes into the game, VGK took a 1-0 lead off Brett Howden’s 4th goal in three games. Howden scored the final goal in Game 5 and the opening goal in Game 6 for Vegas. The visitors carried a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission. The second period went scoreless for 19:15 until Mitch Marner slapped home his first goal of the series to give Vegas a 2-0 lead before the second break. Utah cut Vegas’ lead in half to 2-1 at the 7:41 mark of the final frame. Less than two minutes later Colton Sissons regained VGK’s two-goal edge. Then Mitch Marner sealed the deal with his second of the night to make it 4-1. Cole Smith added an empty net goal. The Golden Knights advance to the second round to face the Anaheim Ducks by defeating the Mammoth 4-1 in Game 6. Vegas will now focus on the Anaheim Ducks in round two. Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to take a 3-2 series lead with a Game 5 victory over the Utah Mammoth at T-Mobile Arena. Utah struck first with under three minutes left in the opening frame. With :41 remaining Pavel Dorofeyev evened the score with a late power play score. Utah took a 2-1 lead midway through the middle period. Five Minutes later Dorofeyev responded with his second game-tying goal of the night. Vegas held momentum after killing off a four-minute high-sticking penalty. However, the Mammoth evened the score on a two-on-one breakout through the Golden Knights defense. On another odd-man rush Utah took the lead with seven minutes left in the match. With under a minute remaining in Game 5, Dorofeyev completed his hat trick and evened the score once again. For the second straight game, overtime was needed for a decision. Ivan Barbashev drew a penalty in OT to set up a game winning power play. Utah killed it off and forced a second overtime period. Vegas eventually won in double overtime with a shorthanded goal by Brett Howden. The Golden Knights take a 3-2 series edge by defeating the Mammoth 5-4 in 2OT. The two teams will travel back to Utah for Game 6 on Friday night. Vegas will have a chance to eliminate Utah and advance to the second round with a win. They fell into another deficit in the 2nd period, and not only rescued it but took the lead. Then, the best 3rd period team in the league didn’t look like themselves and they gave up the lead and looked in serious trouble. But, in VGK fashion, they rescued it yet again, for the 7th time in 5 games. In double OT, the story of the series came through yet again, the penalty kill. Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to tie their seven-game series with a victory over the Mammoth in Salt Lake City. Vegas took an early lead after Pavel Dorofeyev scored his first goal of the series. With under :90 seconds left in the opening frame Brett Howden gave the Golden Knights a 2-0 advantage with a shorthanded goal. Vegas extended their lead to a 3-0 lead early into the middle frame. Five minutes later the Mammoth found the net for their first goal of the contest. Less than thirty seconds later the home team cut Vegas’ lead to one. Utah evened the score 1:45 into the final twenty minutes. The Mammoth took their first lead of the game later in the frame. Howden came up clutch again for Vegas as he scored his second of the night to tie the game 4-4. After sixty minutes, Game 4 needed overtime to decided winner. Late in OT Shea Theodore scored to capture Game 4 for Vegas. The Golden Knights even the series at 2-2 by defeating the Mammoth 5-4 in OT. The two teams will travel back to Las Vegas for a critical Game 5 battle on Wednesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM PT. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: Before the game, the only thing John Tortorella wanted to say was that his team is ready to play. They came out and proved him right with an instant goal by a guy who really needed one, Pavel Dorofeyev. Then, they started going to work by creating turnovers in the offensive zone and it led to tons of zone time and even more chances. They built a three-goal cushion before the quick-strike Mammoth not only cut it down, but eventually took the lead. VGK put their work boots on late in the 3rd to get themselves back even and force OT. UTA had a good push to open OT but the Golden Knights staved it off. It took two game-winners because one was taken off the board from an offside. Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to take a 2-1 series lead with a Game 3 victory in Utah. The Mammoth struck first midway through the opening frame to take their first home playoff lead in franchise history. Utah doubled their lead, on the power play moments after Brayden McNabb was whistled for a high-sticking penalty. After one period down, the Golden Knights trailed 2-0. Utah added two more goals in the first ten minutes of the middle frame to take a commanding 4-0 advantage. At the 13:20 mark of the period, Jack Eichel tapped in a rebound for Vegas’ first goal of the game. Vegas battled Utah in the final frame, had a few power play chances but could only get one ffrom Nic Dowd. The Golden Knights fall behind 2-1 in the seven-game series by falling to the Mammoth 4-1 in Utah. Game 4 is scheduled for Monday night in Salt Lake City. Time is still TBA but it’ll be at night. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: An old familiar foe reared its ugly head at a terrible time for the Golden Knights. They started the game about as well as you can both territorially and with opportunities to score. Unfortunately, as experienced many times this year, VGK could not solve the goalie and then allowed a weird one on the other end. It snowballed over the next 20 minutes and before they knew it they were in a 4-0 hole. No matter how much possession or even power plays you have, that’s nearly i mpossible to climb out of this time of year. Recap:The Golden Knights were looking to take a 2-0 series lead with a Game 2 victory. Deep into the opening 20 minutes Vegas drew a power play opportunity. Seconds later Golden Knights captain Mark Stone gave his club a 1-0 lead. Three minutes left in the frame the Mammoth answered back to tie the game before the break. Five minutes left in the middle frame Utah took a 2-1 lead. Without hesitation the Golden Knights fought back and Ivan Barbashev evened the score a minute later. The Mammoth regained their lead late in the final twenty minutes. With 2:51 remaining Vegas pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Utah held off Vegas’ attack to seal Game 2. With their 3-2 victory the Mammoth even the series 1-1. Both teams will travel to Salt Lake for a Game 3 battle on Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 630PM PT. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: VGK played another excellent defensive game by limiting the chances in front of the net for a majority of the game. In the 3rd period though the Mammoth started finding more ways through the middle of the ice and it opened up an avenue for them that hasn’t been there much through the first five periods, the rush game. They were able to capitalize on one of those chances as Guenther blew by Theodore, then the second and third whacks at it went to Utah. VGK have a bit of adversity to deal with the for first time under Tortorella. Recap: The Golden Knights hosted the Utah Mammoth faced for Game 1 of the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Early on the game was tight and physical with both teams being penalized multiple times. Late in the period Utah struck first for a 1-0 lead. Vegas answered 3:44 into the middle frame. Colton Sissons poked in a loose puck in front of the net to even the score 1-1. Minutes later the Mammoth regained their one goal advantage. Five minutes into the final frame the Golden Knights drew a crucial power play opportunity. Captain Mark Stone took advantage and tied the game 2-2. Two shifts later Nic Down gave the Golden Knights their first lead of the game. Ivan Barbashev sealed it with the empty netter. The Golden Knights win Game 1 against the Mammoth 3-2 and take a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:30PM PT. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: The key to this series is going to be which team can avoid allowing the opposing team to get the the style of game they want. VGK did a wonderful job in this opening game to avoid turnovers in their own end which limited most of the Mammoth’s offense. On the other side of the rink, VGK’s depth players did the dirty work necessary at this time of year and found a couple of greasy goals that helped out when the top-six couldn’t do a ton aside from the PP. If Vegas can continue to limit the Utah forecheck they’ll find the Mammoth much easier to keep out. Recap: The Golden Knights were searching for the 5th straight win with a victory over the Kraken in Seattle. Captain Mark Stone struck first midway through the opening period, scoring his 25th goal of the season. Immediately into the middle frame Stone scored his second of the night to give his club a 2-0 advantage. Late in the frame, the Kraken cut the Golden Knights lead in half. After 40 minutes Vegas lead 2-1. Brett Howden regained Vegas’ two goal lead 1:11 into the final twenty minutes. Shifts later the Kraken picked up their second goal off a weird bounce. A few minutes later Seattle tied the game at three goals apiece to force overtime and eventually a shootout. Seattle took the game in the late rounds of a shootout. The Golden Knights record drops to 36-26-17 falling to the Kraken 4-3 in SO. Next, Vegas will travel to Colorado for a meeting with the Avalanche on Saturday night. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: It was a bit different than many we’ve been used to in the past because VGK were the ones holding onto the lead for the majority of this game. However, a bad bounce off the boards handed the Kraken a goal and VGK couldn’t seem to bounce back. Seattle’s skating showed up more and more as the game wore on which led to turnovers in the D-Zone. The OT period was madness and in SO, the 1-6 SEA (now 2-6) outlasted the 1-7 VGK (now 1-8).
