We went back to 2019 this week continuing our Summer Camp series for 2026 here on SlashU. This week we covered "Camp Wedding." It's the story of Mia and her bridal party. They rented out an old abandoned summer camp to turn it into Mia's wedding venue. But little do they know the camp carries a history. A young girl was struck by lightning and drowned in the 80s. Also there were some Salem-style witch burnings there in the long forgotten past. Also it was the site of a terrible Native American massacre. So there's a lot going on and it makes you wonder if having a wedding there is such a good idea. Also, everyone in the movie is addicted to texting and posting on social media. This week we covered one from 2025 that left us absolutely floored with the number of practical effects and the 'kill count.' It's non-stop slasher madness from "New Fears Eve." The story in this one centers around the employees of Hooper Industries. They are compelled to attend the company's New Years Eve party despite the fact that a bunch of them are getting laid off due to budget cuts. This week we covered "The Greasy Strangler" from 2016. Sometimes you come upon a slasher movie that's just so strange, it's hard to put into words. But somehow we managed to do it, and even talked about it for an hour. The story centers around Big Brayden and his father Big Ronnie. Together, they run a Disco Walking Tour. When both of them fall for the same woman, it sparks a rivalry between the two men. At the same time, a killer covered in grease starts menacing the town, strangling anyone who gets in his way. When Jay and Ally are forced to work together to save a failing ad campaign for jewelry, they end up getting stalked by a masked killer who targets couples in love. Can they survive Valentine's Day trying to convince the killer they're not actually a couple but at the same time falling for each other? Yeah, probably. And we talked all about it. We're back for a new year and a new season of SlashU! We wanted to start Season 12 off with a bang, but unfortunately we decided to cover a movie given to us by two of our loyal listeners. And it was bad. It's called "Cult of Blood" from 2024. Now, granted it stars low-budget horror royalty in the form of Felissa Rose and Dave Sheridan. But that's where the fun stops because this one was a weird, disjointed, train wreck of a plot from the start. A group of social media influencers get trapped by a vampire cult and have to escape before their blood becomes fuel for some dark ritual that unleashes a weird bat monster. Yeah, all that happens. It's hard to follow, didn't seem to have a real script, but definitely did have Windows 98 style special effects. Well they can't all be winners. This week we're kicking off our annual holiday Slash Yule series of slasher movies. We started with one from 2020 that kind of falls flat, in our opinions. It's hard to image the director wasn't just trolling everyone with this movie. It's "The Fright Before Christmas" from 2020. When a magical, maniacal Santa Claus mysteriously appears at a holiday party, the guests all end up terrified and tortured. But the physical torture is only the beginning. This Santa also insists on telling them scary stories, which aren't scary at all and seem kind of pointless. So it's psychological torture too I guess. Anyway, we thought it had potential but missed the mark. We still had a lot of fun talking about it. He's obsessed with the actress/music superstar Marie Coleby. He takes care of the grounds around her remote Australian estate. Things go off the rails when Marie rejects Gordon's advances. Next thing you know, her sister Jenny comes to visit and has to contend with Gordon's psychosis. It's an interesting movie and we've watched and recorded our thoughts her for you! But the group accidentally unleashes a terrifying triple threat of demons in the form of The Miner, The Pumpkin Man, and The Scarecrow. Our gang of teens need to find a way to escape the horror, save the town, but they might miss their rock concert.
