In Episode 3 of Snapshots of World War II: Sisters Explore Their Grandfather's Legacy, we follow our grandfather, a WWII Army medic with the 357th Medical Detachment, through the final weeks before D-Day. As his unit moves between staging camps in England and Wales, training intensifies and secrecy grows.Joined by historian Paul Woodadge, we explore what life was really like for the soldiers preparing for the invasion of Normandy—from muddy camps and endless drills to the uncertainty of sealed orders and a mission that would change history. Through military records, family photographs, and expert insight, this episode brings us closer to the experiences our grandfather carried with him into war.

Through wartime records, oral histories, and family memories, we explore what life was really like on a crowded troop ship, the emotional weight of leaving home, and the early days of training in England as D-Day drew closer. This is a deeply personal step in our journey to understand not just where he went—but who he was becoming.
