We approach topics that prioritises the experiences and perspectives of people of African descent in their own historical, cultural, and sociological contexts. In every episode we invite guests to emphasise the importance of African history, culture, and values, and how they shape the experiences of African people today.     A quick glossary of terms used in this episode is below! Who is a refugee? Someone who has been forced to flee their home because of war, violence or persecution, often without warning1. Who is an asylum seeker?Someone who is also seeking international protection from dangers in their home country, but whose claim for refugee status hasn’t been determined legally. Asylum seekers must apply for protection in the country of destination2.Who is a migrant?A migrant is an umbrella term.It usually describes someone who has left their home. This can be temporary or permanent due to various reasons.Who is an immigrant?Someone who has left their home and settled in a new country with the intention of living there permanently.     On Financial Literacy

    Financial literacy could be understood as “a person’s minimal knowledge about financial terms such as money, inflation, interest rate, credit and others, but besides this the abilities and skills of that person to use all this information in personal life, being aware of the consequences of it”. Sadly, less than a third of sub-Saharan Africa's population is financially literate – compared to OECD countries where over half the population is.
