This special episode of Soul School Sojourn will be exclusively focused on the men who gravitated to Houghton Lake, MI to attend an event. UFO 👽 CONTACT was a remarkable success but something happened that never happened before. The outpouring of raw human emotion from normally reserved big "manly men" was utterly astounding. It was spontaneous spiritual enlightenment, emotional evolution and deep, profound bonds formed all at once. It was something sacred. Holy. Lovely.

There are trying times that require us to lift our wings and join our better angels in sweet song, times when we must gather together, birds of a feather, to share what is a higher calling, to generate a vibration that raises the consciousness of all who engage with the message. In the midst of panic and confusion, we tend to feel most vulnerable, our jugular vein exposed to a predator in the dark. We have to make a choice -- how to react to a perilous moment or situation. It is always darkest before the dawn. In time of quiet reflection, I chose to flip the switch. The fight or flight mechanism kicks into high gear, but what if there's nowhere to run? Confront the beast head on. Even in our weakest moments, we're stronger than we think. If we flip the switch and flood the space with light, we can see the monster, our true adversary, and all too often, it is fear. We defeat it by acknowledging its presence as the bully in the classroom, calling it out for bad behavior then expelling it from Soul School.

Tonight we explore various aspects of our humanity, elrments we can control with our mindset by choosing a different path and process. Thoughts are things. To a certain extent, we can control the narrative in our own mind, not by blocking out the darkness, but simply by deciding to live in the Light.

The Calling is not something one asks for or has an expectation of as we grow and mature. There are pastors, priests and ministers among us who never stand upon an alter or hold a microphone. No stage is necessary. They pass among people with grace and ease, shedding a certain light, resonating a high vibration that spreads across the terrain they walk, ALL that surrounds them. They leave a mark on the heart of mortal souls they encounter in passing and those folks wonder what changed in the air, what shift suddenly occurred. It's a magical and mysterious impact made, invisible and palpable in equal measure. Tonight we will explore the concept of holiness and the calling as spiritual ascension. Consider it an upgrade in Soul School.

It turns out we can go home again. It may be a visitation of precious memories or it could be an actual excursion which stirs the soul. Jeff Turner has made a journey and had a personal epiphany he is willing to share. A generous spirit, his vision is inspiring and will undoubtedly help many others find their way home in heart.

We take for granted that we are shaped by external elements and exposure to the world at large but each of us has a world contained within. When someone extends a gesture of kindness, it is the reciprocal act of appreciation which solidifies a bond between individuals. In the midst of turmoil, be still long enough to remember who you are and the power innately possessed by human beings, in touch with our emotions at all times. Discernment is the key to self-awareness and knowledge. The only true measure of society is how it collectively cares for the most vulnerable, those unable to care for themselves. What are our core convictions? What matters most? How will this time, this era be defined in retrospect? History is a harsh judge. Our superpower is love. Empathy is ultimately our guide, our moral compass. First find your balance ⚖️ then find your voice. Join us!

The Soul is a sanctuary, a place within where we often suffer in silence. The cathedrals and churches may crumble over time but the faith that built them, the human hands crafting these magnificent relics did so because of a belief in God. An edifice destroyed or reclaimed by nature does not retract from a faith stronger than stone. Join us for an enlightening revelation. We may gather to worship in these buildings but they are not the faith, merely a symbol of it.

No rhetorical question intended or implied, it is a legitimate inquiry. We will delve transcendent experiences which offer no other plausible explanation. Dare to believe.

Comparative analysis serves a purpose philosophically as we examine this thing called life. For example, let's consider the trees that surround us, what we often take for granted in our Earthly realm. Let's look deeper. Join us for an exploration and perhaps an explanation about how to survive an often brutal environment. How does the delicate weeping willow withstand the onslaught when the sturdy, stoic oak cracks & snaps? A subject worthy of our thoughtful consideration.

Predisposed as we are, rightfully conditioned to live in the physical world, it is the metaphysical path to enlightenment which proves to be the longest journey with the greatest reward. Kahlil Gibran's prophecy is worthy of study and interpretation, a feat we'll attempt to achieve during this episode.

The best way to make our way through life is to love actively, to cultivate kindness at every turn. With the use of a simple but very timely metaphor, we will discuss the value of extending a helping hand to the helpless. It matters.

Human beings have a distinct tendency to internalize our angst, issues we don't discuss beyond our own thought process, afraid others won't comprehend what we can barely understand or even articulate. Our mind becomes a maelstrom of troubled thoughts, a predicament which isn't unique at all. In fact, it's a very common condition we all share and there's a remedy for the dis/ease we so often suffer in silence. Join us for an illuminating conversation. 

Human beings are sentimental, emotional creatures who most grieve our loved ones lost during the  holidays. The empty seat at the table is a stark reminder of a glaring absence. Acknowledge them. Include them. Welcome them home to their own family gathering. We shed tears for a reason. Let them flow. The pain comes in choking them back so let them flow like the river of life. Don't drown in quiet despair.  Celebrate the Season of Light together.

A follow-up to last week's show, "I Heard You the First Time!", Jeff Turner will join me to discuss the premise of that presentation. The subject being the redundancy of prayer (and meditation or other forms of Universal connection), we will explore the process and the reason why we feel compelled to ask (or beg) the same question over and over again. Is it an act of desperation or indicative of doubt or is it something else entirely? Jeff's personal background as a pastor gives him a rather unique perspective. He will share his own interpretation of the practice -- no doubt about it.

If our faith is strong, why would we assume the existence of a benevolent deity who doesn't even listen to us? Human beings learn through repetition, so perhaps the practice of prayer is merely an  acknowledgement, a connection with the Universal One for our own benefit, regardless of the request already made. Maybe a prayer whispered reverberates throughout the Cosmos like a symphony, lighting the stars. Let's examine the purpose and reason for practicing the presence with the sacred ritual of prayer. "God willing" is a common phrase, so often uttered without a thought of what it means, yet we speak it as a quick little quip in response to how we hope a circumstance will be resolved, placing it in God's hands, but our participation is a part of the resolution because we said so, connecting the event with a divine intention, or a request for intervention.

There are moments in life that force us to reconsider life as we know it, moments that teach us to look deeper, feel more and trust in something out there on our side, if only we acknowledge existence is more than meets the eye. Watch for the messages, omens and even the occasional miracle to manifest when we least expect it. Life is a magical journey. Buckle up and enjoy the ride, especially when prayers are answered!

Mastering our own mind is no easy feat but we can each craft an individual masterpiece once we realize we are the artist who controls & shapes the clay every day. We are creative, malleable beings who too often relinquish our power to external forces and circumstances far beyond our control. Be the artist in residence.

Tonight we will examine our own duality. We are essentially spirit having a human experience here in Soul School, bound temporarily to this state of being. Regarding our perishable vessel, none of us will live in it forever. It will pass away with the rising tide as our initials are erased from the sand on a beach. However, there is something permanent about us, something carved in the cosmos like a sculpted slab of marble, set in stone. Let's talk about duality.

There is a multitude of pathways to peace, hope and healing. We must each find our own way on this sacred journey called life. If we believe in a higher power, an omnipresent, omnipotent entity from where we come, then we can logically conclude we are each a part of it, not separate from it. We will discuss universal connection we share and remind everyone to remain mindful of our personal responsibility to participate in our own path to spiritual growth and enlightenment.

Tonight's episode of Soul School will address a recent incident which occurred. It qualifies as phenomenal, a manifestation that can only be described as divine in nature, prompting a quantum leap of faith. Jeff will speak to it as he learns about it in real time and he will be equally inspired. The Divine is a multiplicity summed up in simplicity. A community manifest as a unity. We, too, are a mass of complications and complexities, and it is for this reason that we, like the Divine itself, must find a unity and simplicity of being though we be individual communities of complexity.

The philosopher Paul Ricoeur wrote that, "An idol must die so that a symbol of being may begin to speak." We live in a world where the idols of religion, culture, politics, and the like, are dying at a rapidly increasing rate, leaving many adrift in a sea of hopelessness and instability. It is the symbolic that has the power to turn these trouble and unstable waters into solid ground on which we can once more stand and find security. 

In Soul School this week, Rupert will consider the subject of moral consideration. Are criminals worthy of our moral consideration? Should we be nice to animals? Is it possible to be inconsiderate to a tree? Is it wrong to damage a rock?

After a necessary hiatus, we are back on track and on the air. Tonight we will discuss the imperative need to rest and heal, to take time off to relax and recharge. Spiritual growth is quite exhausting. It requires space and a certain attitude to go along with it. There's a method worthy of an intense discussion about an inmate self-loathing which often surfaces when we take time for ourselves. Is it some ingrained Puritan work ethic we suffer or is it something else entirely? Join us to explore why we too frequently punish ourselves for taking time off to find our smile. It's almost time for summer vacation!

Even the most devout people do, at times, question their own faith. Essentially, they make a decision to either believe anyway, in spite of the doubtfulness, in defiance of doubt, or choose to abandon their belief system altogether when the doubt becomes pervasive. It is a cerebral exercise rather than the leap of faith based on emotions. It's logical. It makes good sense. The question is, do we want to live our lives full of hope and faith and be wrong in the end, or live a life full of hopelessness and despair and be right? Obviously, we have the choice. We get to decide what mindset moves us to happiness. It's an inside job.

Jeff Turner and I will enter Eden through the back gate as we navigate a message in the music. "We are stardust. We are golden... and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden." (Joni Mitchell) Tonight we will rock the Universe.

The great Christian mystic, Julian of Norwich, wrote: "First there is the fall, and then the recovery from the fall. Both are the mercy of God." As a species, we praise the rebound of the fallen, but rarely, if ever, the fall that necessitated the rebound. But what if both are manifestations of divine mercy? Without the fall there is no rising, and without a death there can be no resurrection. In our fight to grow, mature, and push past old things that "no longer serve us," we often leave behind whole swaths of our history, and in so doing lose ourselves entirely. The call is not to transcend and abandon our past, but to transcend and to include it. Both the fall and the recovery are gifts, and both are to be received with thanksgiving.

To everything there is a season. So begins the first hint of spring as we prepare to kiss winter farewell. What is it about the cyclical nature of life that causes us to hibernate during the cold, dark season as spring yanks us out of our den to celebrate the new growth of spring? It lifts our spirits as the frozen tundra thaws and the promise of a single sprig from a daffodil gladens our heart.

As we grow and learn, some lessons come easily, through experience. Don't touch an open flame. Don't cross a road without looking both ways. Most often, our parents teach us the rules of the road, so to speak. However, the hardest lessons come at the end of a life of a parent and we often become the parent to the ones who gave us life, coming full circle. The test precedes the lesson.

We often find ourselves feeling stuck between two realities: one which we desperately long to leave, and another we yearn to arrive at. In this experiential “hallway,” we face the phenomenon of liminality, or, the space in-between. We tend to want to evacuate this space as quickly as possible, and move on to bigger and better things, but this space represents the joining and harmonizing of things we often think opposite, and disharmonious with one another. It is in this space, where one world bleeds into another, that we often find ourselves in the throes of deep, profound spiritual experience. And that is because it a space where different experiences of reality contrast with one another, making them visible, tangible, and experiential. Perhaps, then, the liminal, or the in-between , is not something to rush and hurry our way through, but something to pause in the midst of, and feel deeply! And perhaps it is here, in a place we initially longed to leave behind, that we will come to see the world for the deeply enchanted, “haunted” even, thing that it is!

We are the scattered children of the singularity, adrift in exile, longing for unity of being. In this episode we speak of uniting the aspects of our individual beings, as well as those of the larger collective, that seem, on the surface, opposed to, and at odds with one another. The closer we look, the more we realize that these separate things, are one thing, and that our task in Soul School is to reintroduce them to one another, and, in the process, to be reintroduced to ourselves.
