Ep. 33 - Producer and Jack of No Trades host Michelle Asaro

My guest this episode is multi-talented multi-hyphenate Michelle Asaro. We break down her approach to storytelling, project management, and how she turned her "late bloomer" label into a badge of honor. Michelle sheds light on the real skills behind successful productions—how storytelling, resourcefulness, and a willingness to try everything can open doors you never knew existed. One note: Michelle would like to make a slight correction to the jack of all trades quotation she mentions later in the episode, the full quote is "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one". Ep. 28 - Stephanie Arapian

Stephanie Arapian is an actor, writer, and producer who's always been drawn to stories that start with "What if?" Ep. 25 - Meerenai Shim's The Audacity

Ten years since her last solo album, trail-blazing flutist Meerenai Shim releases her fourth. The Audacity combines virtuosic flute performances and modern record production techniques in a delightful sonic package. Anchored by the evergreen "Vermont Counterpoint" by Steve Reich and augmented by newly commissioned works from The Honourable Elizabeth A. Baker, Brent Miller, Janice Misurell-Mitchell, and Meghann Wilhoite, The Audacity is Meerenai's most cohesive project to date. When she designed the album cover, Meerenai happened to hand-write her name and it turns out that The Audacity is truly her signature recording project. Released by Aerocade Music.

Ep. 22 - Pianist Holly Roadfeldt

In which I chat with superstar pianist Holly Roadfeldt about her new album Hommages, the dark tunnel of memorization, and the vital importance of collaborating with other artists—in live performances. More about the album: Pianist Holly Roadfeldt transports us to Eddie Van Halen's arena, behind Hayao Miyazaki's camera lens, within the frenetic energy of Frank Zappa, to Hildegard von Bingen's visions, above the monumental canvas of Jackson Pollock, and so on. Through Roadfeldt's poetic interpretations of Lanman's compelling vignettes, we recognize these piano miniatures are more than a sonic journey but provide us with the artistic inspiration and human connection we so often desire. HOMMAGES, the new album from composer Anthony Joseph Lanman. The click of a metronome, haunting melodies, a wild flourish transcribed from a famous virtuoso guitarist, and seemingly random pitches repeated through a looper pedal on which other colors emerge. These are the expressions of vulnerability through sound heard in Anthony Joseph Lanman's HOMMAGES. -- Thank you Holly for joining me again on the podcast!
