Spill Your Guts
by Spill Your Guts
A podcast that aims to talk frankly and - dare we say - with a sense of humour, about issues related to bulimia. Hosts Sophie Monks Kaufman and Lizzie Stimson lived with this eating disorder for many years. We have recovered, insofar as recovery from this complicated mental illness is possible in a society with a warped approach to eating and body image. Each episode we welcome a guest to help unpick a chosen theme.

Body Image [Spill Your Guts - Episode 3]
Body image! I challenge you to find a person in this world who hasn't struggled with perception of their appearance. Our guest is the rigorously thoughtful, Amy Godfrey, who talks about what it's like to live in a bigger body, within a society that pushes judgemental messages about what it means to be fat. Lizzie and I explain how negative body image fuelled the development of our bulimia. Meanwhile, Amy delivers a sociopolitical analysis explaining how it benefits neo-capitalism for us to be unhappy with ourselves. How Does Bulimia End? [Spill Your Guts - Episode 1]
We're starting at the end because, like Lord of the Rings, bulimia has many false endings. Understanding this is a good entry point for understanding the different layers that conspire together to create a self-destructive cycle and - hopefully - how to wean yourself out of it. We are delighted to have a very articulate guest to help us kick things off. Tom Fairbrother is a marathon runner who told his story in reputable news publication, The Guardian! [http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/the-running-blog/2016/jan/08/my-eating-disorder-nearly-ended-my-marathon-dreams-but-now-im-back-up-and-running] Production help from Michael Leader and Eleanor McDowall Music: http://www.purple-planet.com
