Spiritmuse Records and Kahil El’Zabar present Let The Spirit Out, Live at “mu” London, a unique concept of recording new material purposefully in a live audience environment, to capture the feeling of connectedness in the ancient ritual of communion through music. Spiritual jazz master Kahil El’Zabar created new material for this album, in a powerful message to the world today, speaking about release, freedom, revelation and empowerment to Let the Spirit Out. Inspired by the concept of free expression, Chicago legend El’Zabar began writing new material, alongside new arrangements for reimagined classics such as Caravan and Summertime, to be performed by the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble over two nights, in a carefully selected venue, “mu” London, an audiophile space for a healing, immersive experience. Leading the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble with Corey Wilkes (trumpet), Alex Harding (baritone sax) and Ishmael Ali (cello), the spiritual jazz shaman El’Zabar and his close collaborators delivered stunning performances over two unforgettable evenings that became a landmark experience—refined, healing, and transcendent—where improvisation and spirit merged, deepening the profound connection between artists and community. Let the Spirit Out is a journey into the uncontainable force of the human spirit expressed through sound. The title speaks to the flowing of spirit —the act of opening ourselves so that what is within can flow outward into the world. The album is a recorded ritual that sees the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble at their most powerful: raw, expansive, transcendent and deeply attuned to the healing energy of rhythm. For music lovers seeking the full immersion of Kahil El’Zabar and his legendary Ensemble in an intimate audiophile setting, Let the Spirit Out delivers the deep-listening experience of being present in the very moment of creation, bridging the gap between artist and audience. The Chicago master’s ritual is both uplifting and transformative, inspiring all who hear it to let the spirit out. The 2xLP and CD are produced to Spiritmuse Records’ high-quality and feature stunning artwork by extraordinary artist Nep Sidhu. The release is further enriched by a dedicated microsite, sharing reflections and testimonials from artists and writers who witnessed these two extraordinary nights. Spiritual jazz, with its improvisational roots, becomes the vessel for this album, where the spirit is not confined but constantly unfolding, transforming and communicating with the audience beyond words. Through Let The Spirit Out, the Chicago legend is asking us to strip away layers of restraint, inviting listeners to experience liberation and healing, and let truth, passion and light emerge without fear. In his own words: “We, the people of spirit, will rise to a higher consciousness beyond these darkest times, forging telepathic kinships of empowered Love. Jump and Shout, Let the Spirit Out!” - Sir Kahil El’Zabar

Caravan
A powerful yet playful reimagining of the jazz classic ‘Caravan’ by Juan Tizol & Duke Ellington, this track captures the raw essence and spiritual groove of Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. Kicking off with an impressive solo from Alex Harding, it sets the stage for the ensemble to lock into a captivating groove that electrifies the audience. The group demonstrates their masterful skills through riotous avant-garde solos, each one adding to the intensity. Led by Maestro Sir El’Zabar, with Corey Wilkes on trumpet and Ishmael Ali on cello, the band is having a blast — and the fun is contagious! They push past expectations, digging into something raw and real. It’s live jazz at its best — energetic, fearless, and unforgettable. 8. Prayer - Angel Bat Dawid & Naima Nefertari
Journey to Nabta Playa - angelbatdawidnaimanefertari.bandcamp.com/albu…laya Journey to Nabta Playa is a remarkable collaboration between composer and clarinetist Angel Bat Dawid and multi-disciplinary artist and musician Naima Nefertari (aka Karlsson). The album is a journey in sound and sisterhood rooted in the artists’ historical exploration of an ancient stone circle in Nabta Playa, a deeply sacred astronomical site in the remote deserts of ancient Nubia. Their historical research of the site acts as a point of departure for the story this album tells and embodies more than just a musical testament; it is a spiritual and sonic journey into a lesser-told piece of history. This 180g black classic 2xLP gatefold album comes with an obi and original art by multi-disciplinary artist Nep Sidhu, a painting by Kahil El’Zabar, and it contains a beautiful booklet including texts by Neneh Cherry, Imani Mason Jordan, Tej Adeleye and Dr Adam Zanolini. Recorded at Moki and Don Cherry's family home in Sweden and at cultural hotspots Elastic Arts and CoLabyrinth in Chicago, the album has just been exclusively premiered worldwide by Gilles Peterson on his BBC 6 Music show, during an in-depth live interview with Neneh Cherry and Naima Nefertari. The album consists of original compositions by Angel Bat Dawid and Naima Nefertari, together with a rare composition by the legendary Don Cherry and an unreleased composition by the brilliant, unique David Ornette Cherry. 8. 7. SPM - KEZ011 - Return Of The Lost Tribe - Ethnic Heritage Ensemble
The second offering from the new, phenomenal forthcoming album by Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, ‘Open Me, A Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit’, 'Return of the Lost Tribe' stands as a powerful testament to their legacy and unwavering contribution to Great Black Music. Both invigorating and spiritually resonant, it’s an EHE classic, composed by El’Zabar during the Ensemble’s historic early days. “The music intends to convey that something powerful and inspired is returning, or coming around again with inspired vigor and wisdom.” This instrumental tour de force is performed fearlessly by the spiritual jazz shaman and the current EHE long-term collaborators and renowned masters - Corey Wilkes on trumpet and Alex Harding on baritone sax, also featuring James Sanders on violin and viola, and Ishmael Ali on cello. This is a deep, meaningful explosive sonic journey, a triumphant ‘return of the lost tribe’ to a music lineage that transcends space and time, and a powerful statement of their commitment to Ancient / Future / Music.

10. ETHNIC HERITAGE ENSEMBLE • SPIRIT GATHERER • Tribute to Don Cherry - Harvest Time
Chicago giant Kahil El’Zabar’s re-imagining of Pharoah Sander’s classic from the forthcoming masterpiece ‘Spirit Gatherer • Tribute to Don Cherry’ by the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, ft. Dwight Trible & David Ornette Cherry. This is mesmerising, inspiring, spiritual jazz with El’Zabar leading on African balafon, Dwight Trible uplifting with his divine vocals, masters Alex Harding & Corey Wilkes on horns and legend David Ornette Cherry’s on piano – on what is his very last recording. “Pharoah Sanders was the most popular village griot of the avant-garde jazz movement”, says El’Zabar of the late, great saxophonist. “So, when Pharaoh did songs like ‘Harvest Time’, they became something that the entire community embraced. In the same way, Don Cherry was the griot of the community”, and there’s no better way to pay tribute to these noble ‘warriors’, by connecting their spirit in music. In this exalted company the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble’s sonic odyssey goes from strength to strength, opening up new spaces of healing and new connections to the wisdom of the ancestors!
