Spirits Uncorked
by Elizabeth Grimes
Spirits Uncorked is what happens when two sisters turn their group chat into a paranormal podcast and add wine. And Elizabeth & Erica want you to pour a glass and join in the conversations about strange history, haunted places, shadow people, or your own listener experiences. Along the way, they chat with authors, fellow podcasters, and other fascinating guests. It's spooky, funny, thoughtful, and occasionally unhinged.

Throwback | Homegrown Horror: The Starkweather Murders and our shocking family connection
This week, we’re reaching back into the Spirits Uncorked vault to revisit one of our favorite episodes: Homegrown Horror: the Starkweather murders. In 1958, Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate became the center of one of the most infamous murder sprees in American history, leaving 11 people dead across Nebraska and Wyoming. But this episode became much more personal than we expected. Our grandma joins us to share her memories of growing up in Nebraska during the Starkweather murders. AND, during the conversation, we uncover a surprisingly close connection between our own family and the case that neither of us ever knew about. It’s true crime, family history, and one very unexpected discovery, which is why this remains one of our favorite episodes we’ve ever recorded. Pour a glass and join us for a Spirits Uncorked throwback. Ep. 57 | Til Death Didn't Us Part: Ghost Marriage
This week, Elizabeth and Erica are joined by their third sister, Regina, for a deep dive into one of our strangest topics yet: people who marry ghosts and the dead. We start with the wild story of a woman who says she fell in love with, and eventually married, a Victorian soldier’s ghost. There were candlelight dates, a paranormal wedding, celebrity spirits on the guest list…and eventually, even a ghostly divorce. But marrying the dead isn’t always a paranormal love story. We also explore real traditions and legal practices surrounding posthumous marriage, including ghost marriages in China and the rare circumstances in which a person can legally marry a deceased partner in France. And because there are three sisters at the table this time, Regina joins the conversation with a psychological perspective on relationships with unseen partners—how grief, attachment, loneliness, identity, belief systems, and our own minds can shape experiences that feel completely real. Is it love after death? A cultural tradition? A coping mechanism? Something paranormal? Or maybe a little more complicated than any of those? Pour a glass and join all three sisters for ghosts, psychology, marriage, cultural traditions, questionable relationship choices, and the important question nobody asked us to answer: Can you marry a ghost? Ep. 56 | The Missing Scientists: Conspiracy or Coincidence?
Scientists, engineers, government contractors, and others...either dead or missing. They worked in fields like antigravity, fusion, advanced propulsion, aerospace, and materials science. Others had connections to some of the country’s most sensitive research institutions. So…is there actually a pattern here? In this episode of Spirits Uncorked, Elizabeth and Erica go down the rabbit hole of the so-called “missing scientists” mystery and the conspiracy theories surrounding it. Is a foreign government behind this? Is technology being targeted? Is it connected to UAP programs Or did the internet take a series of unrelated tragedies and build a conspiracy around them? Pour a glass and explore these unsettling questions with us. And bear with us as we try and figure out what anti-gravity and dark matter are. Ep. 53 | The White House Séances
What happens when a nation is drowning in grief and desperate for answers from the other side? In the years following the Civil War, Spiritualism exploded across America. In this episode, sisters Elizabeth and Erica pour a glass of wine and explore the rise of Spiritualism, the strange story of the Fox Sisters, Mary Todd Lincoln's tragic life, and the séances that took place inside the White House itself. Special Feature | A Scary State
This week, Spirits Uncorked is excited to share an episode from our friends Lauren and Kenzie of A Scary State! On Scary State, Lauren and Kenzie explore the dark history, haunted legends, cryptids, true crime cases, and strange stories that make each state uniquely creepy. In this featured episode, they travel to Pennsylvania to investigate two very different mysteries connected by the same unsettling question: what's real, and what's legend? First, Lauren examines the disturbing case of Miranda Barbour, whose shocking claims and confessions captured national attention and left many questioning where truth ends and fiction begins. Then Kenzie introduces listeners to one of Pennsylvania's strangest cryptids: the Squonk, a sorrowful creature said to wander the state's forests, weeping over its own appearance. But when confronted, the Squonk's story takes a bizarre turn that has made it a lasting part of Pennsylvania folklore. If you enjoy creepy history, cryptids, true crime, urban legends, and all things strange, be sure to check out Scary State Podcast. Listener Pour #1: The Aiken-Rhett House
Welcome to the very first Listener Pour, our new mini-series where we share real-life paranormal experiences sent in by listeners like you! For our inaugural story, we're heading to Charleston, South Carolina, and one of the city's most historic, and allegedly haunted, homes: the Aiken-Rhett House. Built in 1820 and preserved in remarkably original condition, the Aiken-Rhett House offers visitors a glimpse into Charleston's complicated past. From its grand ballrooms and art gallery to the preserved slave quarters and carriage house, the home is steeped in history. But according to many visitors, it's also steeped in something else... Our listener Savannah shares stories of unexplained footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own, reports of a faceless woman. Savannah also recounts her own experiences while touring the home, including an encounter in the slave quarters that left her feeling watched, and a mysterious humming sound that seemed to come from nowhere. Is the Aiken-Rhett House truly haunted? We'll let you decide. Have a paranormal experience you'd like us to feature on a future Listener Pour? Ep. 52 | The Four Species of Aliens No One Cares About
Are we alone in the universe? According to a growing number of whistleblowers, military personnel, scientists, and former government officials... maybe not. In this episode of Spirits Uncorked, Elizabeth and Erica dive into recent claims surrounding UFOs—now called UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena)—and the ongoing conversation about alien disclosure. We discuss the four extraterrestrial species most commonly mentioned in UFO lore: the Grays, the Nordics, the Reptilians, and the mysterious Mantids. Along the way, we share famous encounters, strange theories about reality itself, Area 51, Roswell, dimensional beings, and whether humanity might be approaching some kind of cosmic turning point. Are these stories evidence of something real, modern mythology, or simply our attempt to explain the unknown? Pour a drink, keep an open mind, and join us as we venture into one of the biggest mysteries of all: What if the truth really is out there? In this episode of Spirits Uncorked, Elizabeth and Erica dive into the world of good vs. evil magic through the lens of Disney, folklore, and cultural storytelling. Ep. 44 | Lake Michigan Mysteries: Ancient Spirits and Vanished Ships
What mysteries lie beneath the cold, endless waters of Lake Michigan? In this episode of Spirits Uncorked, Elizabeth and Erica dive into the haunting legends and unexplained phenomena surrounding one of North America’s greatest lakes — from vanished ships and missing time to ancient stories of powerful water spirits. The sisters explore the disappearance of Le Griffon, often called Michigan’s oldest ghost ship, and the enduring mystery of why it has never been found. They also unpack Indigenous folklore surrounding Mishipeshu, the feared Water Panther believed to control storms, shipwrecks, and violent waves beneath the surface. Erica describes how “when Lake Michigan… turns from glassy calm to you should not be here, that’s Mishipeshu, shifting in his lair” . Along the way, they reflect on history, storytelling, cultural memory, and why certain places seem to hold onto their secrets. With wine in hand and curiosity wide open, Elizabeth and Erica invite you to join them in exploring what the lake remembers — and what it refuses to give back. Pour a glass and sail with us into the mysteries of Lake Michigan. ABOUT THIS SHOW
Spirits Uncorked is what happens when two sisters turn their group chat into a paranormal podcast and add wine.
