God's Presence in Silence and Solitude

The spiritual disciplines of silence and solitude means we need to regularly get away from the noise of everyday life. Distractions are the biggest threat to our faith.Pastor Matt, Pastor Eric Scott, and Chelsea talk about these spiritual disciplines and how to implement them. Jesus often took time to get away from the crowds to be alone with the Father. Graciously, God gives us the same ability to be in his presence and know him more intimately.Love the podcast? The Spiritual Discipline of Celebration and Remembering

Why is celebration considered a spiritual discipline? The fact that we're told to celebrate and remember in the Bible tells us that it is something that we might have to work at. Remembering and celebrating God's faithfulness is a spiritual discipline that can happen both corporately and individually. In this episode, Pastor Matt, Kelly, and Chelsea talk about the work it takes to intentionally celebrate, what that looks like within the church, and what that looks like in our families and friendships. Love the podcast? Be a Student of Scripture

Study might not be the first thing that comes to mind for a spiritual discipline. The reason why we study Scripture is to know God better and to become more like Christ. 2 Timothy 3:16 says:All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. In this episode, Matt, Dustin, and Chelsea talk about what motivates them to study scripture and practical ways to implement it in their every day lives. The story of Jesus is the most important thing you'll ever study!Love the podcast? Confession & Prayer

Did you know confession is a spiritual discipline? It’s a hard concept to grasp — that confession could actually bring us closer to both God and other people. But the spiritual practice of bringing our sin into the light lifts the burden from our shoulders. James 3:13-16 says:Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.  Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.Prayer and confession have a lot to do with each other. And practicing both in community and in our personal relationship with Jesus can help us grow in these spiritual disciplines. In this podcast episode, Pastor Matt, Chelsea, and Pastor Don talk about the meaning of confession and its importance, along with how prayer ties into confession and how both fit into their personal lives.Love the podcast? Community of Believers

We all experience the Church differently, but Jesus is clear about the importance of gathering in community. We're called to be unified, bonded in love, patient with each other, and spurring each other on to good works. Our spiritual health depends on our engagement with the Church!Eph. 4:1-4 says:Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. What would it look like if we came humble to our community believers looking for ways that we can contribute to the body of Christ instead of just consuming what it has to offer? Watch this episode of our Spiritual Disciplines Podcast as Matt, Chelsea, and Virgil discussion what it looks like to participate in the local church as a spiritual discipline.Love the podcast? Meditation on Scripture

What comes to your mind when you think of meditation? For believers, meditating on Scripture might seem like an ancient, out-of-practice idea for the 21st century. Meditation on Scripture is vital to our faith as growing followers of Jesus.Just think about how much Jesus relied on Scripture, as well as Paul, David, and other spiritual giants of the faith. Spending time in God's Word, memorizing it, thinking on it carefully, and delighting in it matures us in our faith and forms us in Christlikeness.Psalm 1:1-3 says:Oh, the joys of those who do not    follow the advice of the wicked,    or stand around with sinners,    or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord,    meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank,    bearing fruit each season.Their leaves never wither,    and they prosper in all they do. Do you know how to meditate on God's Word? Watch the first episode of our Spiritual Disciplines Podcast as Matt, Chelsea, and Daniel discuss what Scripture meditation looks like in their own lives. Love the podcast?
