    STMB Episode 12 - Jigger #2 - Bruddah Waltah

When Scott moved his new to him 1974 Gulfstar 44 ketch from downtown Waikiki to the state boat harbor at Keehi Lagoon he sought out some help to get the boat on the mooring. What ensued was somewhat comical and led to a years' long friendship with a fortunate haole and some solid locals.

STMB Episode 10 - Jigger #1 - SV Sophie C is Back in the Water!

Welcome to the very first Jigger Episode. Jigger's will be short bits/thoughts/tirades/etc. In this Jigger, Scott describes the 2024 launch day of the SV Sophie C. After a LOOONNNNGGGG haul out for maintenance where, not surprisingly, everything doesn't go as planned, the boat was launched and mast stepped on July 17, 2024. SV Sophie C is Scott and wife Fern's 1967 Alberg 30, hull number 235. Scott also discusses the work that was done, his appreciation for the work his wife did, and where the idea came from for the new name.

STMB Episode 09 - Doc Frisbie

Doc Frisbie had longed for the nautical lifestyle for years, but it wasn't until he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer that he took the plunge. After enduring several life-changing events, following a major life change with enduring the global pandemic that was COVID just to learn that he had the biggest battle of his life staring him down, Doc fought back and won. Now he embraces each and every day with a zeal for enjoying the important things in life. Doc shares his testimonial about his fight with cancer in an effort to raise awareness. This week Scott is joined by lifelong sailor Jim Garrett. Jim started sailing as a young man on dinghies around the York River and Chesapeake Bay. Over the years he graduated from small boats to keel boats, with many adventures along the way. Along the way Jim met some famous local sailors and some world-renowned sailors as well. This is Part 1 of a two-part interview. Check out Jim's website at www.gmsurveys.net. Also check out this page on Lockley-Newport

STMB Episode 06 - Boat Move Fiascos

In Episode 06 Scott recalls a couple of boat moves that happened right before the holidays in late 2023. The first clip is Scott and his wife on one of the club boats going from the WRYC to Holiday Marina. Forgive the wind noise, it was recorded on a cell phone (really need to keep the recorder close at hand when there's a boat nearby). The second 2/3 of the episode are Scott's thoughts while driving to and from the marina taking Joe's boat from its dock in Gloucester to Wormley Creek on the York River for winter haul out and maintenance. Hang in there, the next several episodes are in the queue with several interviews scheduled. Hoping to have more episodes out soon.

STMB Episode 05 - 300 ft From the Mooring

In Episode 05 of the Splice the Main Brace Podcast, Scott is joined onboard S/V Tranquility Base (affectionately called TB) by his stepdaughter, Natalia. As the episode begins, Scott and Natalia have recently anchored a mere 300 ft from the mooring ball at the Ware River Yacht Club (WRYC), TB’s home port, due to some mechanical problems. After wondering about the zany powerboater that keeps zipping by, Scott and Natalia realize that not only do they know the zany powerboater, but he’s a member of the club; and he comes to the rescue. Following the anchoring exercise and failed late fall sailing trip, Scott and Natalia sit down for a brief introduction and background. We hope you enjoy this episode. On today's episode of the Splice the Main Brace podcast, Chris Smith of the Bonnie Boat Sailing Podcast joins Scott. Chris provides some background on his sailing experience and commentary on Chris and Scott's friendship, from introduction to present day. Chris somewhat inadvertently may have also signed on to be the co-host of STMB! After the initial bits, Scott and Chris are joined by Jeffrey Wettig of the the Shooting the Breeze Sailing Podcast from theescapepods.com. Jeffrey, his wife Nora, Chris, and Scott met up at the 2023 Annapolis Sailboat Show for a quick interview followed by lunch and some beers. STMB Episode 03 - Harvey Morgan

At 93, Harvey Morgan still loves getting out on the water. A year or so ago, Harvey was the inspiration for the Splice the Main Brace Podcast. I sat down with Harvey at his home in Hallieford, Virginia up in Mathews County last week. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to Harvey relate his stories of sailing throughout the decades. Enjoy the conversation. As always, please like and share the episode and feel free to send comments to [email protected].

STMB Episode 01 - 2023 Cape Charles Cup

Once again on Tranquility Base, Scott is joined by Kevin and Chris for the 2023 Leo Wardrup Memorial Cape Charles Cup (LWMCCC). Forgive the sinusy (is that a word) introduction, I was a wee bit stuffy. After the intro, the first part of the episode was recorded under sail and came out pretty good. Forgive the engine noise in the second half, we lost wind coming back across the Bay. Thanks to the Ware River Yacht Club (WRYC) for allowing us to sail TB in the race while we continue repairs to S/V Sophie C. Scott, Kevin and Chris are all members of WRYC, check out their website at www.wryc.org! Please check out the STMB Podcast blog at www.stmbpodcast.com. You can reach out to Scott directly at [email protected]. I'd love to hear any feedback on the episode. Future episodes will be focused on interviews with sailors from around the Chesapeake Bay. If you're interested in participating in an interview please contact Scott. Thanks again to Craig Bickhardt for allowing us to use an excerpt from his song "Chesapeake Bay" from his 2018 album Home for the Harvest. Please check out Criag on Spotify and FB.
