Fact from fiction - fuelling female athletes. Featuring Myria Cano-Hall (E5)

A few weeks back our national broadcaster - the ABC - released results from its ELITE ATHLETES IN AUSTRALIAN WOMENS SPORT SURVEY .Earlier the ABC had asked 152 current or recently retired elite athletes across 47 sports about their views on a range of topics including earnings, discrimination, resourcing and support and health and wellbeing. The results were eye-opening to say the least. Discrimination, online trolling and harassment, significant financial inequity, and also many experiencing negativity around body image with close to half conceding that they’ve experienced disordered eating as an athlete. Bond University is home to a significant population of incredibly high achieving female athletes so this kind of thing is particularly relevant. To help us learn more about the nutrition elements of all of this, we're joined by someone who operates on the front line - Bond-trained Dietician and Health Scientist and the brains behind ATHELITE NUTRITION, Myria Cano-Hall. You can follow Myria and Athelite Nutrition on Instagram HERE.

Broomsticks and stones with the Curling Professor (E4)

The curling is unfurling at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games and things are getting frosty! Canadian team member Marc Kennedy made headlines after he unleashed an almighty spray in the direction of Swedish opponents who’d accused him of cheating by ‘double-touching’ the stone after it had passed the hog line in a pool game. Was he cheating? Was it a Swedish stitch up? Gold Coast-based Australian curler and Bond University law academic, Associate Professor Jay Merchant, has been keeping a very close eye on things from afar and was happy to share his thoughts. You'll also hear how curling helped pave the way for Jay's shift away from the Canadian oil and gas industry to the courtrooms of Queensland. Listen to his fascinating story here. You can also hear Jay alongside fellow Bond University law academic, Elizabeth Greene on their excellent podcast Justice Matters: Conversations about Crime on SPOTIFY, APPLE PODCASTS or YOUTUBE .

In 2022, Bonnie Hancock circumnavigated Australia on an ocean kayak. 27,000 kilometres. 254 days. Bonnie’s gruelling adventure is not only an extraordinary insight into human endurance, steely resilience and unflinching determination, but also a fascinating study into the magnetic allure of dreaming big.  When Bonnie’s not paddling, she’s completing a Bachelor of Journalism degree at Bond University.  Sport by Experts is a Bond University Podcast hosted by Matt Webber.

How a Bond University mathematician helped take rain out of the cricketing equation (w/ Pr Steve Stern)

Steve Stern is a Professor of Data Science at Bond University - and the man whose maths literally decides what a cricket team needs to chase when the rain rolls in. Englishmen Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis had already cooked up a workable method but after Stern politely suggested a few tweaks, he had his own surname added to the title. Here, Stern not only breaks down his unlikely claim to cricketing fame (or infamy, depending on who you barrack for!) but also lifts the lid on the important role data analytics will play in the AI era.Sport by Experts is a Bond University podcast hosted by Matt Webber.

A season like no other with Andy Lovell and Bec Stower (E1)

What a winter season it was...Our men's Premier Rugby team enjoyed grand final success for the first time ever when they pipped Brothers in a thriller. A fourth consecutive premiership for our rampant Premier Women's rugby squad. Our men's AFL side prevailed in their decider in extra time. And our Bond Bull Sharks netballers - so close to folding just a few short years ago - rose from last to first in the space of three years when they came from 16 goals down just before half time to topple competition heavyweights, the Cougars. What do you learn from a year like this? How do you maintain the rage as you look ahead to season '26? Former Melbourne Demons and West Coast Eagles AFL player, former coach at the Eagles, Saints and Suns and now Bond's Head of Football, Andy Lovell is joined by Queensland Elite Pathways and Bond Bull Sharks' Hart Premier League championship-winning coach, Bec Stower.
