Keith Wattley, founder of UnCommon Law joined Street Soldiers Radio to shared how they have supported incarcerated people to heal and return home through parole.  For 20 years, UnCommon Law has championed the radical notion that people serving life sentences in prison for serious or violent crimes have the capacity for transformation and deserve viable pathways home from prison. With leadership from those most impacted by the criminal legal system, they are reimagining responses to violence and harm, and fighting to dismantle life sentencing and discretionary parole. Their groundbreaking approach is changing policy and parole outcomes, driven by the voices and experiences of system-impacted communities.

Ms. Lana is known throughout Richmond, CA as someone who cares about her community and giving back. Street Soldiers Radio celebrated our newest college grauduates (298 total!) and our newest students who finished the Leadership Academy/College Prep class and are on their way to college. They each shared how Alive & Free has impacted their life, what being in the classroom was like and their future goals.

Street Soldiers Radio is honoring Gun Violence Awareness day and month by having a conversation with Samantha Zinober of Moms Demand Action.  We also celebrat the incredible life and legacy of Clarence B. Jones, lawyer and speech writer for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who passed away May 22. 

Street Soldiers Radio helped to bring attention to Mental Health Awareness Month with guests Joshua Jacobo and Jamila Collins. This year’s theme — More Good Days, Together — encourages us all to reflect on what a “good” day looks like, both for ourselves, and for our communities.

Street Soldiers Radio celebrated the beauty, history and complexities of Latino Culture with guests DJ Agana, Professor Lorena Gonzalez, and Erika Lazo Mansilla. 

November 24, 2024 Street Soldiers Radio is incredibly thankful for listeners both new and old! Thank you for having conversations with us, no matter how easy or hard they may have been- we are here together as a community and are grateful we can support with our show every Sunday night. We are also excited to highlight the families of those who will be represented in the new film Six Triple Eight by Tyler Perry and airing on Netflix in December.

Street Soldiers Radio shared the stories of two Alive & Free Omegas- one from then, and one from now. Two of my favorite guys- USF professor Dr. Reginold Daniels and USF college student Aaron Meneses joined us to share their stories. Some get it right away and some get it sooner or later….and when they both got it! The message is simple. Never give up on yourself! The past doesn’t matter. It’s never to late to become the person you are meant to be.
