Project Audion Episode 81: Lux Radio Theatre's "Death of a Salesman"
April brings to a close Project Audion's sixth season! For our 80th production, director Pete Lutz made a fascinating choice - a 1956 Australian radio adaptation of the lauded American drama "Death of a Salesman". "Death of a Salesman" is, of course, one of the classic America plays: the first to win both the Tony Award for Best Author, the New York Drama Circle Critics' Award, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Arthur Miller's intense family drama might have seemed ideal material for a prestige radio adaptation, but perhaps too intense for American radio networks. However, Australia's radio stations had no such nervousness. The Australian edition of Lux Radio Theatre adapted "Death of A Salesman" on January 29, 1956, using two of the lead actors who originally premiered it in Australia. Learn more about your ad choices. Cassie, a teen that's having trouble fitting in at school, is about to find out. One day, after she wraps up community service at a local hospital, she stumbles out of the basement of a spooky bookshop and into a story set on a devil's staircase in a remote Italian village. Running through the aged space, Jack and David bump into "Am I Old Yet?" the marvellous comedic audio drama from Flloyd Kennedy. This week a triple play of their first shows with "Flowers for the Birthday Girl", "Finish the Book", and "Caught Out". A coming-of-age, slice of life, audio fiction comedy with a difference. Our ageing heroine shares senior moments, family relationships and adventures—entertaining and a wee bit provocative. In Season 6 some ancient Greek deities choose her to 'save the planet' - if she only knew what her superpower was. Written, performed and produced by Aussie-born, Liverpool-based actress, singer-songwriter and performance poet Flloyd Kennedy with guest performers on 3 continents. Sonic Society #898- Dreams of Danger
Someone is changing all the streetlights in Pepper Heights, Cleveland. The color of nighttime is shifting. Everyone thinks they know what happened at the Pepper Heights Zoo… But do they, really? Dane, a spun-out musician spending the winter in Cleveland, Ohio, has two main goals: keeping his job at the Pepper Heights Zoo and trying not to waste all his time on Grindr. What he doesn’t expect is to get swept into a story about dreams, about forevers, about flickering lights, about unexplained deaths, about relentless change, and about the parts of ourselves that we wish other people knew to look for. Oh, and also a murderous zebra. With episodes one and two: "Goodnight, Esmerelda" and "The Boy & The Buck"!Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Old-Time Radio Essentials Episode 55.5: 10th Anniversary of Mickey Mouse
Co-hosts Pete, Paul and Patte divert from their usual format to bring you this diversion -- a standalone production from 1938 that honors Walt Disney on the 10th anniversary of the very first Mickey Mouse cartoon. Discovered by OTR aficionado John Tefteller in his vast collection of acetate (and other) recordings, he released it on Thanksgiving Day 2025 on his own podcast, The Good Old Days of Radio, thus letting listeners hear it for the first time (probably) since its first release 88 years ago. Mr. Tefteller has graciously allowed us to re-re-release it, since our listeners and his likely follow parallel lines, thus allowing more folks to enjoy it. The three co-hosts are not judging it by their usual criteria (see previous episodes), merely bringing it to you for your entertainment. If you like OTR Essentials and have a suggestion for a future series we should discuss, please write us at our NEW email address: [email protected]! If we take your suggestion, you'll be eligible for some cool Narada and Moonlight swag.Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

However, all is not fun and games as shortly after the party starts, a snowstorm begins to rage outside, trapping all the partygoers inside their host's mansion and Jack and David find themselves in the middle of it all for episodes 1 and 2!Learn more about your ad choices. Project Audion Episode 80: Dragnet & Hairnet
Project Audion is back with just the facts, ma'am: DRAGNET is one of the few programs from the classic age of radio drama which is still recognized by all ages today - for the iconic four-note theme, at least. But even Dragnet didn't hit the airwaves right away in its fully-realized familiar form. Episode #1, which aired on June 3, 1949, survives only via a script, not a recording. And that script reveals a compelling cop show, but one which doesn't quite match our memories of Jack Webb's LAPD detective, memories formed from years of radio, television, and movie versions. All of which makes Project Audion's new reconstruction of that very first episode such a fascinating show to listen to. Even the Dragnet theme isn't there! But Sergeant Joe Friday is, along with his partner Ben, as well as the true-life crime stories where "only the names have been changed - to protect the innocent." Tune in to catch this lost Dragnet episode. But wait -- there's more! (as they used to say on the commercials accompanying Dragnet TV reruns). R. L. Mills, that senior scriptwriting scribe and storyteller from the days of Bob Hope, has penned a parody of Dragnet called "Hairnet" - and THAT plays back right AFTER our lost premiere. The same cast is heard (and seen) in both shows...only of the parts were changed, to protect the actors. Double Dragnets were a fun challenge - and that's a fact.Learn more about your ad choices. Temple of Vampires: Showcase Special!
From the shadows of the jungle comes a mystery older than civilization itself! Temple of Vampires is a cooperative recreation of the classic adventure from Carlton E. Morse’s legendary radio series I Love a Mystery, newly produced for the Mutual Audio Network by Sonic Cinema Productions and The Amigos Collective. In this thrilling opening double-feature, Jack, Doc, and Reggie travel deep into South America in search of a mysterious stone temple rumored to hold an ancient terror—one whispered about in fearful tones by the locals: vampires. As danger closes in from the jungle and the secrets of the temple begin to emerge, our heroes must decide whether the legend is merely superstition… or something far more deadly. The production stars Jeff Billard as Jack, Lothar Tuppan as Reggie, Jack Ward as Doc, and Angela Young as Sunny, with John Bell, Jan Didur, and introducing Austin Mosher as Hermie. David Ault is your Announcer, with Sharon Bee on the organ. Post-production by Michael Messner, with script updates and direction by Jack J. Ward.Learn more about your ad choices.
