In this week's episode, our students & staff give us their reaction to The Great Escape Festival 2026!   The festival takes over the entire city of Brighton with 450 artists playing over 600 shows, and our students formed a media team to capture as much as they could!

For the five multi-instrumentalists and audio engineers, moving into a maze of a house in Brooklyn together was the transition that created the album they had been writing their whole lives.   Melding DIY recording and experimental sonic visions with studio quality, their debut album,  “Channels," is a layered bed of adventurous, pain-pop songs that coalesce around a digitally-stimulated, emotionally-serrated brand of modern shoegaze. "Channels" is out now everywhere on Kanine Records.

The lush arrangements of newly released second album A Duck’s Water Off My Back are a marked departure from the lean production of the band’s early material, thanks in part to the addition of new members James Bickford-Smith (violin, synthesizers), Michael Burke (saxophone), and Michelle Hromin (clarinet), whose contributions have brought new textural depth to the music.   A Duck’s Water Off My Back has greatly expanded the band's following, particularly after it received critical acclaim from Outside Noise, who maintain that it features "some of the most beautiful poetry we've heard in independent music all year".

Our students and staff were lucky enough to catch Jawdropped's set at the Hope and Ruin, and we got to interview them afterwards!

We were lucky that one of our leavers, Sam, visited us on our careers day. It was amazing to find out how he has set up his own music business, using the skills he learned at SupaJam -    Tune in to find out the whole story!    

To help celebrate the launch of our new base in Swanley, Florence Sommerville joins SupaJam staff Laura and David for a discussion about all things song writing!   If you are a budding song writer, then this one is for you!   PS - don't forget to listen to the gig she played for us too - available on our YouTube and Mixcloud!    21-year-old Florence Sommerville, is an award winning singer-songwriter from Orsett, a small Essex village, who thrives on modern country music.   She’s performed to packed audiences at iconic venues in Nashville, including the iconic Bluebird Café, Commodore Grille, Maxwell House, Love & Exile, Cambria Hotel and was chosen by No Depression magazine as one of the top performers at the 2024 AMA Festival.   In the UK she’s played the Maverick Festival, Latitude and Moseley Folk & Arts Festival, the Green Note, Libra Camden, and the Fiddler’s Elbow in London and supported such diverse acts as Diana Jones, Tom Robinson, Annie Keating, Track Dogs, Hannah Aldridge, the Hanging Stars, Dan Owen and many more.

Formed in 2018 by Erica Ashleson (drums, vocals) and Guillaume Siracusa (guitar, vocals), after having met at a concert in Paris.   At the time, Erica was learning to play drums and Guillaume accompanied on guitar and the two friends made their first compositions within just 4 months.   In 2019, they released a self-titled EP recorded in their rehearsal studio in two days, unveiling a singular sound of minimalistic indie-noise-pop, recalling the likes of Yo La Tengo, Duster, and Electrelane.   A first album Ennemi Commun released in 2021, was positively received, allowing the band to tour and play at the prominent festivals La Route du Rock, La Cathédrale - Binic, and the Paris Pop Fest 2022 edition.   The duo spent most of 2022 composing and recording their next album, Wait until the flames come rushing in which was released June 30th 2023 on Skep Wax (UK), Howlin Banana Records (FR), and Hidden Bay Records (FR).   Podcast made in collaboration with Real Sounds UK   Thanks to Lily, Ruby, Storm, Chris and Miles for co-hosting the podcast

SupaJam hosted a panel talk at the UK's largest music conference this year! Our very own Tom led a chat with Gil Tee from Black Deer Festival, and Phoebe from Youth Music.
