Good thing we pick books who’s authors and contents are never in any way controversial. We start out by discussing some of the controversy surrounding these books in the evangelical world and why we have decided to read them. We hope that you enjoy them as mach are we did/are.

    A Shepherds Life

Surprising in the way that it was completely captivating in unexpected ways. We all hope that it was instructive and helpful and humbling and emotional and any other adjective that you would like to put with it.

    Digital Liturgies

So confession time, I was supposed to have this out a few weeks back but I am not doing so hot with my New Year resolution to get episodes edited and dropped in a timely manner, but hey at least I made it before calendar turned to February right?  Anyway we are back with an excellent book for the new year and that is Digital Liturgies by Samuel D. James. this is an excellent look at how our digital lives are shaping us and helps us to better evaluate our online habits. We hope this was a helpful book and discussion for you all.

    Send us Fan MailI know its been a while but we are finally back. This episode was recorded several months ago but now we are back in the saddle and recording some new content for you. We hope that you had a great summer and read som fantastic books this year during our hiatus. If you have a book suggestion send it in, somehow, and if we read our mail we just might read it and discuss. Today we have Joseph Conrads book Heart of Darkness. This book is as chearful as it sounds. We do think it is worth the read in spite of some objectionable descriptions and ways of speech. Look for more exciting episodes coming soon!

In this book he explores the idea of Sabbath from a hebraic perspective. We think this can be a helpful book as we think through this theme that we find from Genesis 1 all the way through the end of the Scriptures.

This week Paul Jamie and Steve are looking at a poignant and tragic story by John Steinbeck called The Pearl.  There is a lot to think about and wrestle with in this short novel and we hope it was thought provoking and our conversation helpful.

This book explores the theme of fatherhood among others. Today we are looking at a Jack London short story, To Build a Fire. This is a classic Jack London story of man vs nature with a dog in the mix. At first blush it may seem like a zany, offbeat comedy and thats about it, but we think there is more going on under the surface. Hopefully our conversation is helpful in untangling - just a little bit - this nihilistic sci-fi.
