Woodkerne was founded in 1997 by Adam Sweet on fiddle and mandolin, John Rough on banjo, Peter Siegel on guitar, and Dad Richardson on bodhran and concertina. Peter left the band soon due to differences in direction and Paul Burton joined on guitar and penny whistle. Dan got arthritis in his hands and had to quit the band in 2000. Andy Wiener joined and participated in the recording sessions at Avocet in Colrain, MA. Paul moved to California in 2002 and James Bunting joined on guitar and Irish bouzouki. The band broke up in 2009.

The Old Copper Plate

The tune's age has yet to be established, despite the adjective 'Old' in the title, and there is often confusion about which 'Copperplate' is the 'old' and which the 'new' that either the 'G' or 'A dorian' tune may be meant by either. Published and recorded versions of the A dorian melody prior to 1974 have not been found.
