Monday Night Wars Episode XIII: WWF Wrestlemania XII (1996)

We hope the new year is off to a great start for all of you. Since we're now on the road to the WWE's biggest show of the year, we felt it appropriate to get back into the swing of things. After a less than steller entry in 1995, the company brought us Wrestlemania from California. Featuring the first "Iron Man" match, a "Hollywood Backlot Brawl" and other notable matches, how did this show fare? Join Matt and Garrett as they look back on Wrestlemania XII. Come back soon as we get eerily close to the paradigm shift in WCW and the first HBK world title reign.

Monday Night Wars Episode XII: WCW Uncensored (1996)

Garrett and Matt return to the ring after quite some time away. What a way to make their comeback by discussing a show with an infamous main event. It was the Mega Powers re-teaming against the Alliance to End Hulkamania in a match so big they needed multiple levels. The boys discuss all that and the preceeding events as they look at WCW Uncensored 1996. Come back next week for their first Wrestlemania review of #12!

Monday Night Wars Episode XI: WWF In Your House 6 (Rage in the Cage)

Following the Royal Rumble, both winner HBK and the rest of the World Wrestling Federation were on the road to Wrestlemania XII. They did have one last PPV in store before hitting their final stop in Anaheim. Diesel still needed his rematch from world champion Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels put his main event status […]

Monday Night Wars Episode X: WCW Clash of Champions XXXII (1996)

Welcome back to Tag Team Podcasting. Join Garrett and Matt as they return to the wrestling rings of the mid 90s and pick up right where they left off in their reviews of WCW/WWF reviews with this look at 1996’s Clash of Champions 32. What did the Clash of Champions name mean to Garrett growing up? Where was WCW at this point? How much are Garrett and Matt looking forward to getting to the NWO era? Listen below to find out the answer to all these questions, and be sure to come back next week as they return to the WWF ring to review In Your House 6 Rage in the Cage!

Monday Night Wars Episode IX: WWF Royal Rumble (1996)

Thankfully we have officially closed the door on 1995 in the world of wrestling. WWF shifted in a huge way during 1996, kicking off with its annual Royal Rumble ppv. I don't just say "kicking off" because Mr. Sweet Chin Music won the titular match. How did the show fare as far as launching a new calendar year for Vince's promotion? Tune in to find out Garrett and Matt's takes on WWF Royal Rumble 1996.

  6. 9

Monday Night Wars Episode VIII: WCW Starrcade (1995)

The time has come for us to take our first deep dive into Starrcade, the flagship show of WCW. Well, several can compete for that title but it was their Wrestlemania equivalent so why not run with it? With a fresh coat of paint to wipe away the dreck that was Starrcade 1994, NJPW vs. WCW was the predominant storyline throughout. The show culminates in a #1 contenders match that's immediately followed by a world title change! How do Garrett and Matt feel about the show as a whole? Does it leave a strong note to enter 1996 in? Tune in to hear more. Come back next week for Royal Rumble 1996!

  7. 8

Monday Night Wars Episode VII: WWF In Your House 5 (1995)

WWF closes out their PPV slate of 1995 with Season's Beatings. How do the boys feel the show went? From hog pens to bulldogs, we'll cover it all. Tune in to our latest discussion!

  8. 7

Monday Night Wars Episode VI: WCW World War 3 (1995)

We're back to the world of WCW for the end all be all of matches. No, we're not discussing Wargames again. We'll be taking a look at the titular WW3 match, which was created to make WWF's Royal Rumble look miniscule by comparison. Much like Vince's company did in 1992, the world title of Turner's promotion was for the taking this time. Both also involved Ric Flair heavily on the PPV itself. Would he pull out another one "with a tear in his eye?" Or is that how our two hosts felt reviewing this show? Tune in for our full PPV breakdown and be back next week for WWF In Your House 5: Season's Beatings.

  9. 6

Monday Night Wars Episode V: WWF Survivor Series (1995)

fter taking a sabbatical off from the world of wrestling, Garrett and Matt are back. This time, they're taking a look at one of the big four shows from the promotion up north. Nothing screams Thanksgiving more than Survivor Series for WWF fans. With a plethora of traditional elimination matches and a world title match that saw the end of Diesel's time with the belt, how do the boys feel about the show? Especially coming off of IYH 4, was this show a step in the right direction? Thanks again for listening and we'll be back next week reviewing WCW Fall Brawl 1995!

  10. 5

Monday Night Wars Episode IV: WCW Halloween Havoc (1995)

Halloween is a perfect time of year. Pumpkins, trick or treating and professional wrestling. The titular WCW Pay Per View is one of those shows that is well-known, but perhaps for more infamous reasons than great ones. The show really was a continuation of what we saw at Fall Brawl the month before, escalating to a monster truck match/subsequent world title match between The Giant and Hulk Hogan. There's other stuff on this card, but that's what springs to mind for most fans. How do our own Mega Powers feel about this show? Was the main event that much of a creative misstep? How was the undercard? Will Matt want to drop the leg on Garrett for their potential disagreements? Tune in as we review Halloween Havoc 1995. Next week, we're going back up north to review Survivor Series 1995.

  11. 4

Monday Night Wars Episode III: WWF In Your House 4 (1995)

We've now arrived at a show featuring a main event that caused Vince McMahon to eviscerate both the talent and agents backstage. What a way to cap off WWF returning to Canada huh? That's just one of many components Garrett and Matt discuss in their review of WWF In Your House 4. We touch on everything from debuting talent like Goldust and Hunter Hearst Helmsley to the fallout of HBK getting beaten up by a group of Marines. Does this show have anything of merit to advocate for? Or should this house have been foreclosed on? Listen in as we review our third PPV in our retrospective of the entire Monday Night Wars!

  12. 3

Monday Night Wars Episode II: WWF In Your House 3: Triple Threat (1995)

The In Your House concept was a way for WWF, in a difficult period for business, to get some extra revenue by providing smaller PPVs outside of their big 4. We aren't starting with the first show of this name because it predates the "official" start of the Monday Night Wars. We are instead beginning in September of 1995. Big Daddy Cool Diesel was still WWF Champion and partnering with his BFF HBK in a "winner takes all" title match against Yokozuna and Owen Hart. However, for reasons we mention, this match did indeed change before the bell. How did the boys feel about McMahon's first show in their coverage of this era? Tune in for their full discussion of In Your House 3! Next time, they'll discuss WCW Halloween Havoc 1995 and the infamous "monster truck" match among other things. Monday Night Wars Episode I: WCW Fall Brawl 1995

Garrett and Matt begin their journey through the history of wrestling by watching and dissecting WCW’s Fall Brawl ‘95, an event many determine to be the beginning of the Monday Night Wars. You got it. The tandem are wasting no time diving into the era where the most eyes were on each wrestling product, including the two hosts of this podcast. Why did the boys decide to start here? How is each match on this card? And what is up with Hogan’s military garb? So many questions, and not many answers. But Matt and Garrett will do their best on this, the passion project they have been trying to launch for years. Begin the journey, stay for the matches!

Episode I: Entering the Squared Circle

It’s finally here. After years of contemplating it, here is the very first episode of Tag Team Podcasting, the project Garrett and Matt have been wanting to springboard forever. Welcome, to their very own wrestling retrospective podcast! Listen to them answer questions like who their favorite wrestlers are, and hypotheticals like what they would do if they were in the wrestling business. As well as what exactly this podcast’s format will consist of. Note: This podcast was recorded about a year ago, so there are things here, such as where the starting point of this project will be, that as of next week will be different than what is outlined here. Be sure to come back next week as that starting point is revealed, and the boys clear up some wrinkles they hadn’t addressed yet when this intro episode to Tag Team Podcasting was originally recorded. Thank you for all your support in helping us get this going, and let’s talk some wrastlin’!
