Episode 23. Your Power to Choose
The power of one single decision in your life… Just one. Free Will, Your power to choose. You might be one decision away from changing your life forever. I’ve become so aware of the fact that every day we make choices in our lives. I never understood the magnitude of how our choices can affect our daily lives in the future. Not just big choices or big decisions, but little every day choices as well. As I’ve gone into this new year I have become so intentional with the choices I make every single day, choices about how I spend my time choices about where I allow my thoughts to go, choices about my daily habits, choices about my future. In today's episode, I talk about the power of just one single choice, and how that can actually change the trajectory of your life.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

E21 | Tender Goodbyes
In this deeply personal episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati sets aside her planned message and chooses instead to share honestly from the tender place she is walking through. After beginning 2023 with encouragement around fear, failure, overcoming, small steps, knowing your why, starting somewhere, and putting your trust in God, Pati finds herself living out the very faith she has been talking about.Recorded around Valentine’s Day, this episode reflects on widowhood, guarding her heart for more than a decade, opening herself to love again, and then walking through the pain of saying goodbye. Pati also shares the loss of her beloved dog Marley and names 2023, so far, as a “year of goodbyes.”Through Proverbs 3:5 and Romans 8:28, Pati reminds listeners that faith is not just something we talk about, it is something we live when life does not go the way we hoped. This episode is for anyone walking through heartbreak, loss, disappointment, or goodbye who needs to be reminded that God can still be trusted with a tender heart.

E20 | Who or What Are You Putting Your Trust In?
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati continues the conversation around dreams, goals, vision, and moving forward with God by asking one deeply important question:Who or what are you putting your trust in?Anchored in Psalm 20:7 — “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but I will trust in the name of the Lord my God” — Pati reflects on the many places we are tempted to place our trust: money, security, control, approval, success, talent, government, comfort, or even ourselves.Through personal stories of business ownership, photography, provision, and stepping into a new calling as a “professional encourager,” Pati reminds listeners that faith often means trusting God before we see the outcome. In the world, we often say seeing is believing. But in the kingdom of God, believing is seeing. This episode is a beautiful encouragement to place your trust in the Lord, especially when you are facing fear, failure, disappointment, uncertainty, or a dream that feels too big to carry on your own.

E19 | Everyone Starts Somewhere
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati moves from the January conversations about goals, fear, failure, overcoming, small steps, and knowing your why into one simple but powerful truth: everyone starts somewhere.Through personal stories from her photography journey and learning to play guitar, Pati reflects on how some of the most meaningful parts of her life began with one small beginning — one photo, one chord, one desire, one step. She shares the moment at a photography conference when a speaker held up a picture and said, “Everybody starts somewhere,” and how that statement became a lasting reminder that no dream begins fully formed. Every photographer, writer, musician, athlete, business owner, pastor, and leader had to begin.Anchored in Zechariah 4:10, this episode reminds listeners not to despise small beginnings, because God rejoices to see the work begin. If there is something God has placed on your heart, you do not have to wait until everything is perfect. You can start where you are, take the first step, and trust God with the process.

E18 | Know Your Why
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati closes out the January series with one final foundational concept: know your why. After walking through fear, failure, overcoming, and the truth that something is always better than nothing, Pati shares why attaching a meaningful “why” to your goals, dreams, calling, and daily actions matters so much.Your why is the reason behind what you are doing. It is the motive that helps you keep going when the work gets hard, boring, uncomfortable, or discouraging. Without a clear why, it is easy to quit, give up, or return to what feels comfortable.Through personal stories about widowhood, motherhood, photography, health, debt freedom, and podcasting, Pati reminds listeners that the dreams, gifts, and stories God gives us are not random. They are meant to encourage, uplift, inspire, and impact others.Anchored in 2 Timothy 4:7, this episode is an invitation to think deeply about your life, your family, your faith, your business, your goals, and your calling — and ask: Why does this matter?

E17 | Something is ALWAYS better than Nothing!
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati continues her January theme of moving forward into a new year with faith, courage, and honesty. After talking about fear and failure in previous episodes, Pati introduces one more important word: overcome.Instead of only asking, “What do I want to accomplish this year?” Pati invites listeners to ask a deeper question: What do I need to overcome in order to move forward?Through biblical examples like Moses, Joseph, and Job, as well as her own story of grief, loss, widowhood, and healing, Pati reminds us that God does not leave us alone in our battles. Whether we are facing fear, anger, doubt, rejection, addiction, unforgiveness, loneliness, depression, loss, bitterness, worry, or simply feeling stuck, God is able to meet us, strengthen us, and help us overcome. This episode is a tender and powerful reminder that Jesus has overcome the world — and because of Him, we can overcome too.

E14 | Choosing Faith Over Fear
In this New Year episode Pati opens 2023 with one powerful word: Fear. Not because fear is the goal — but because fear is often the very thing standing between us and the life, purpose, calling, dream, or act of obedience God is inviting us into.Pati shares how fear can show up as fear of failure, rejection, embarrassment, success, responsibility, uncertainty, or even the fear of looking foolish. Through personal stories from podcasting, photography, worship leading, and motherhood, she reminds listeners that fear is a normal human experience — but it does not have to be the thing that controls our choices.Anchored in scriptures like Joshua 1:9 and the image of Peter stepping out of the boat, this episode is an invitation to choose faith over fear, do it afraid, and trust that God will be with you wherever He calls you to go.

E13 | Moving from Stuck to Unstuck
In this heartfelt year-end episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati reflects on one of the most transformational years of her life — a year that began with feeling stuck, burned out, restless, and unsure of what was next.Through prayer, reflection, and a few simple daily habits, Pati began to experience God moving her forward in quiet but powerful ways. She shares how creating a rock-solid morning routine — including scripture, prayer, water, devotional time, goal reflection, and exercise — became a foundation for clarity, healing, discipline, and renewed purpose. This episode is an invitation to look back on your own year, reflect on the meaning of your “dash,” and ask God what He wants to do in and through your life in the season ahead.Call to Action:Take a quiet moment this week to reflect on your year. Ask yourself: Did I grow? Did I move closer to God? Did I live intentionally? Then ask God to show you one simple daily habit that could help move you forward.

E12 | Miraculous
n this Christmas-week episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati shares one of the most personal and emotional family stories she has walked through, the day her daughter Julia called from the emergency room and said, “The vape blew up in my face.”What followed was a terrifying moment for any parent: a rushed drive to the hospital, soot covering Julia’s face, blood and gauze in her mouth, and the uncertainty of how severe the damage would be. But in the middle of the trauma, Pati began to see the hand of God in very real and tangible ways.Although the device exploded just inches from Julia’s face, there were no third-degree burns, no damage to her eyesight, no damage to her throat, and no permanent facial injury. The damage was real and painful, including major dental trauma and more than a year of reconstruction, but the mercy of God was also undeniable.Pati shares how God protected Julia, provided through an unexpected gift of nearly $20,000 in dental care, and later used the legal outcome of the accident to help fund Julia’s education as she pursued becoming a Christian counselor. This episode is a powerful testimony that God’s mercy can meet us even in consequences, that restoration can still be miraculous even when it takes time, and that God can redeem what could have destroyed us.If you are walking through something painful, messy, frightening, or unexpected, this episode will remind you that God is still present. He can protect, provide, restore, redeem, and bring hope out of what you never would have chosen.Sometimes the miracle is not that nothing bad happened, sometimes the miracle is that God limited what could have happened and walked you through the restoration.

E11 | Courage and Strength: When Life Gets Hard
In this episode, Pati reflects on the heart of the podcast after reaching the milestone of ten episodes and returns to the foundational message of John 16:33: “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, for I have overcome the world.”After a week filled with everyday frustrations — a lost wallet, a misplaced phone, and even missing her carefully prepared podcast notes — Pati shows up in real time to practice the very message she shares: take heart, trust God, regroup, and keep going. This episode centers on two powerful words: courage and strength. Pati unpacks what it means to “take heart,” reminding listeners that courage is strength in the face of difficulty, pain, grief, failure, fear, or uncertainty. Life will not be perfect. We will face trouble. But God does not leave us alone in it. He uses challenges to grow us, strengthen us, shape us, and teach us to rely on Him.Through scriptures like Psalm 46, Isaiah 40:29–31, and Jeremiah 29:11, this episode reminds us that God is our refuge, our strength, our ever-present help in trouble, and the One who renews us when we are weary. If you are walking through something hard today, this episode will encourage you to look up, take heart, and trust that God is with you in the battle. He knows you, He loves you, He has a plan for you, and He wants to be your strength. You do not have to face this alone. God is your strength, and He will help you overcome.

10 | The Altar
In this milestone Episode 10 of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati shares a heartfelt and practical message about creating an altar in your life — a consistent place where you can meet with God, find comfort, surrender what you are carrying, worship, pray, forgive, and remember His promises.Drawing from her Catholic upbringing and the deep impression the altar and cross made on her as a child, Pati reflects on how the idea of an altar became a meaningful practice in her own walk with God. For years, one of her personal altar places was a cross on a hill near her church — a place where she could sit quietly with God, surrender burdens, pray for others, receive clarity, and remember that she did not have to carry life alone. In this episode, Pati reminds listeners that an altar does not have to be formal, religious, or complicated. It can be a church, a cross, a beach, a mountain, a porch, a patio, a room, a closet, a chair, or any quiet place where you can step away from the noise and be alone with the God who loves you. This episode asks a powerful question: When things get tough, where do you go? Do you scroll, binge, check out, avoid, or numb the pain — or do you have a place where you intentionally bring your real life to God?If you are weary, heavy-burdened, hurt, stressed, angry, heartbroken, or in need of peace, this episode will encourage you to create an altar in your life — a place to lay things down, hear God’s voice, receive His comfort, and unload the heavy load. You do not have to carry it alone. God is waiting to meet you there.

9 | Mindset – through a spiritual lens
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati takes a faith-filled look at one of today’s most talked-about topics: mindset.Mindset is everywhere — in personal growth, goal setting, sports, business, entrepreneurship, and coaching. But what happens when we look at mindset through a spiritual lens? What does God’s Word say about our thoughts, our beliefs, our words, our identity, and the battle that happens between our ears every day?Pati shares how the mind can become a battlefield between truth and lies, peace and torment, life-giving words and destructive thoughts. She invites listeners to pay attention to the inner conversation they are having with themselves and to ask an honest question: Would I speak to a friend the way I speak to myself?Through scriptures like Proverbs 18:21, John 8:32, and Romans 12:2, this episode reminds us that our thoughts matter, our words matter, and renewing our minds with God’s truth can set us free from labels, lies, comparison, perfectionism, and false identity. If you have been battling negative thoughts, self-criticism, comparison, or the feeling that you are not enough, this episode will encourage you to stop measuring your worth by the world’s standards and begin believing what God says about you.Your value is not determined by social media, other people, past labels, or the voice in your head — it is determined by God.

8 | The Red Umbrella
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati shares the powerful picture of the red umbrella — a metaphor for God’s promises, protection, grace, and covering in the middle of life’s storms.Building on the previous episode’s four words — peace, purpose, pleasure, and promise — Pati focuses on the promises of God and how they can become a covering when the rain is pouring, the wind is blowing, and life feels dark, cold, and overwhelming.Through the image of standing under an umbrella in a storm, Pati explains that God’s promises are real, but our positioning matters. We have a choice: we can stand under His covering through faith, trust, surrender, and obedience, or we can step outside of His best and experience the consequences of trying to do life our own way.Pati also shares how God used a simple love for photography to provide for her family before she even knew she would need it. What began as a small pleasure became one of the ways God prepared, provided, and protected her after becoming a widow. If you are walking through a storm, this episode is a reminder that God’s promises are still available. His grace is real. His love has not left you. And through Jesus, you are invited to come back under the covering of His care.God’s promises are like an umbrella in the storm — but we have to choose to stand under them.

7 | For the Quiet Ones
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati shares a tender and honest message for “the quiet ones” — the people who may be hurting, struggling, grieving, doubting, or walking through storms silently behind the scenes. After receiving messages from people who are going through difficult seasons, Pati reminds listeners that behind the beautiful Instagram squares, Facebook posts, and smiling faces are real hearts carrying real pain. But even in the fire, God isnear. He sees. He knows. He loves. And He is able to meet us right where we are.Through four powerful words — peace, purpose, pleasure, andpromise — Pati shares how God can meet us in the middle ofdisappointment, heartbreak, uncertainty, fear, unrealized dreams, andsurrender. Drawing from her own personal season of opening her heart again after widowhood, she speaks honestly about trust, letting go, and learning to bring what we are holding tightly back to the cross. This episode is a reminder that God can give peace in the storm, purpose through the pain, pleasure through simple gifts and worship, and promises that carry us forward one day at a time.If you are one of the quiet ones today, this message is for you: Godsees you. He is with you. He is for you. And you are going to be okay.

6 | Little Wins turn into Big Wins
In this episode Pati shares a powerful encouragement about the concept of little wins — the small, faithful choices that add up over timeand help us move forward in life, faith, purpose, and growth.Drawing from her years as an athlete, including playing Division I softball at the University of Utah, Pati reflects on how sports prepared her for life, motherhood, widowhood, business, and faith. Winning, she explains, is rarely one big moment. In sportsand in life, victory is built through small steps, daily discipline, repeated choices, and learning how to get back up after failure.Through a spiritual lens, Pati redefines winning as submitting to God and allowing Him to shape us into who He created us to be — so we can love well, bring light into dark places, encourage others, and fulfill His plan for our lives. If you have felt stuck, burned out, discouraged, or unsure what God wants next, this episode will remind you that you do not have to figure everything out at once. Start with one small step. One prayer. One habit. One act of obedience. One little win.Little wins add up — and with God, small steps canlead to big victory.

5 | When Trouble Comes: Take Heart
In this episode Pati breaks down the foundational scripture of the show, John 16:33, and shares how it gives us a practical way to walk through trouble, fear, pressure, and uncertainty. After a week filled with health concerns, life pressure, relationship challenges, and business stress, Pati shares honestly that she is learning to live out the very message she has been encouraging others with: take heart.Jesus never promised us a trouble-free life. In fact, He told us clearly that in this world we would have trouble. But He also gave us the answer: “In Me you will have peace” and “I have overcome the world.”This episode is a reminder that while we may not always get to choose our circumstances, we do get to choose our response. We can numb out, spiral into fear, stay stuck in “why,” or we can pause, gather courage, go to God, and choose trust. If you are facing a battle right now — in your health, relationships, family, business, faith, or future — this episode will encourage you to take a breath, take heart, and look to the One who has already overcome. You can look at the problem, or you can look to THE Answer.

4 | Jesus with Skin: Faith, Hope, and Love in Real Life
In this episode Pati shares the foundation and heart behind the show: to point people to God, offer encouragement in life’s storms, and remind listeners that God is real, faithful, loving, and near.Pati reflects on the powerful phrase “Jesus with skin” — theidea that as believers, we have the opportunity to represent the love of Jesus in a real, tangible way to people who may never step inside a church. She speaks with tenderness to those who follow Jesus, those who have been hurt by church, and those who are unsure what they believe, inviting each listener to look past imperfect people and look to the One who demonstrated perfect love on the cross. In this episode, Pati also shares part of her own faith story — how loss, questions, college struggles, and a deep need for something greater led her to say yes to God.Through Revelation 3:20, she describes the moment she sensed Jesus knocking on the door of her heart and made the decision that changed her life. This conversation is an encouragement for anyone who feels disillusioned, weary, hopeless, spiritually curious, or in need of a safe place to begin again. You do not have to do life alone. God is real. He is faithful. He loves you. He is with you.And He is for you.Take heart — He has overcome the world.

3 | The Dash - Your Life Story Being Written
In this episode of Take Heart with Pati P, Pati reflects on the meaning of “the dash” — the small line between the date we are born and the date our life on earth ends.Through her personal experiences with a melanoma diagnosis and later a brain tumor diagnosis, Pati shares how scary, life-altering words can cause us to pause and ask deeper questions: How am I living? What matters most? What story is my life telling? What kind of impact am I making on the people around me?This episode is a powerful reminder that abundant life does not mean a perfect life. Jesus told us we would have trouble, but He also promised that He has overcome the world.Even in fear, uncertainty, diagnosis, loss, and difficult seasons, we have a place to run — to the God who gives life, listens, cares, and works all things together for good.If something in your life has caused you to pause, this episode will encourage you to look honestly at your dash, choose faith over fear, and live the life God has given you with purpose, love, courage, and eternity in mind. The dash is more than a line — it is your life story being written.

2 | When Life Does Not Go as Planned: The Third Tree

You can you trust Him in those uncertain times and let His plan for your life unfold! Just like the third tree, whose dream seemed broken beyond repair, our lives can sometimes take a direction we never expected. Dreams change. Loss happens. Plans fall apart. But even when it looks like everything has been cut down, delayed, or destroyed, God is still working.Pati connects this story to her own journey of loss, widowhood, motherhood, surrender, and faith — reminding listeners that God can still use our broken places to point others to Him. This episode is an encouragement for anyone whose life has not gone the way they imagined, and a reminder that the cross is still the place where we can bring our heartbreak, confusion, fear, and unanswered questions.Even when you cannot see the full picture, God is with you, God is for you, and God always has a plan.Take heart — He has overcome the world.
