We hit you with the bangers in Part 1…But Part 2? That’s the one for the real heads. It seems like Part 2s are always the fan favorites — more obscure, more cohesive, more personal. We came out swinging for the masses last time, but this round, we’re diving deep. The music isn’t in strict chronological order, but it feels like a journey — from Pac’s earliest work all the way to Makaveli. You’ll hear the deep album cuts, the rare joints, and the timeless fan favorites. We’ve got the collabos — and I guarantee a few joints you’ve probably never heard before. Treach, Big Daddy Kane, Freddie Foxxx, South Central Cartel, Above the Law, Young Lay, Richie Rich, E-40, Too $hort, Boot Camp Clik, Dogg Pound, and even Hammer all show up on this one.Three mixes in total — 4+ hours here and 3.5 on Part 1. That’s over seven and a half hours of 2Pac.At the break, we’re giving away a few autographed copies of Jeff Pearlman’s Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur. As always, this is Take It Personal Radio — the home of hip-hop history and timeless tributes, giving legends like 2Pac their due. We’re joined by New York Times best-selling author Jeff Pearlman, who stops by to talk all things 2Pac. Jeff’s new book, Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur, is in stores now. Over the course of two-plus hours, we dive deep into the book as Jeff shares fascinating behind-the-scenes stories you won’t want to miss. And for those familiar with his earlier work — from Sports Illustrated and ESPN to books on Bo Jackson, Barry Bonds, the ’86 Mets, Brett Favre, Roger Clemens, and his Showtime book that inspired HBO’s Winning Time — we even touch on some of those classics too. Take It Personal (Ep 174: 2Pac Tribute) with Jeff Pearlman
Coming off our Eminem tribute, we’re going back-to-back with another one. This time, we’re paying homage to one of the most polarizing artists of all time: 2Pac. You might remember way back in episode 16, we dropped a 2Pac mini-mix for our West Coast Classics series. Well, here we are — 158 episodes later — finally giving you our official 2Pac Tribute. We’re joined by New York Times best-selling author Jeff Pearlman, who stops by to talk all things 2Pac. Jeff’s new book, Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur, is in stores now. This isn’t your typical biography — it’s honest, unfiltered, and deeply researched. It’s arguably the most complete and insightful 2Pac bio ever written. We’re also giving away a few signed copies of Jeff’s new book! And of course, you know how TIP does tributes — two full mixes spanning Pac’s early years, from the Digital Underground days through Death Row and everything in between. We’re weaving through eras to keep the music fresh, with collabs, crazy clips, freestyles, and the timeless classics. There’s so much to cover that we’re even blessing you with a Part 2 coming this November. 2Pac would have turned 54 years old today. He died at just 25. Think about that — he’s been gone longer than he lived, and yet his influence remains as strong as ever. No matter how you feel about him, there’s no denying the impact he had on music and culture. 2Pac wasn’t a lyricist in the traditional sense, but nobody matched his emotion, passion, or message. You felt every word he wrote. For us, that connection outweighs any technical metric. You might go to Tarantino for dialogue — but if you want to feel something, you turn to Spielberg. That was 2Pac. And that’s why we’re doing this tribute. As always, this is Take It Personal Radio — the home of hip-hop history and timeless tributes, giving legends like 2Pac their due. Take It Personal (Ep 173: Eminem Tribute - The Early Years)
It’s finally time we pay homage to one of the best to ever do it. Maybe it took us a little longer because we know how polarizing Eminem can be — but Take It Personal has always been about cataloging music, honoring the culture, and letting the music speak louder than our words. On today’s episode, we bring you our Eminem Tribute: The Early Years. You either love him, hate him, or fall somewhere in between — and that’s why we drew a line in the sand and focused on what we feel were his best years: the early years. We’re taking it all the way back to the beginning and stopping around 2001 — when hunger, chaos, and genius collided. There’s no denying the impact Eminem had on hip-hop. We cover everything from Soul Intent, Infinite, The Slim Shady EP and LP, to The Marshall Mathers LP. We’ve got the demos, the collabos, the diss tracks, the underground gems — and even a few joints you’ve probably never heard before. This is more than a tribute — it’s a time capsule. From basement recordings to chart-toppers, we’re celebrating the raw, unfiltered energy that made Em a legend.Press play, turn it up, and relive The Early Years with Take It Personal Radio. Take It Personal (Ep 164: Xzibit Tribute + Interview) with Xzibit
Ever since we first heard “Free Style Ghetto” off King Tee’s IV Life album, we were all-in on Xzibit. Here was this hungry rapper, sporting this distinct husky voice with an extraordinary flow, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him later on become a household name.Whether you first heard him with King Tee, Tha Alkaholiks or maybe you first caught Xzibit on Bitch Please or What’s The Difference, there is no denying that when you heard him, you knew it was something special. We call this an interview, but it’s really a 2-hour discussion amongst rap fans and there is no bigger fan of rap than Mr. X to the Z.On this episode we have 3 mixes with over 75 tracks highlighting his incredible career. We’ve got the classics, the features and all those obscure collabos for our underground heads. This one of the most informative and entertaining interviews Xzibit has done. Here’s what we got into:• Leaving Albuquerque for Los Angeles.• Debuting on Free Style Ghetto and working with King Tee and Tha Alkaholiks.• Steve Rifkind signing him to Loud Records.• Beefing with Steve Rifkind.• Bigga B and Unity.• Sir Jinx.• What U See Is What U Get music video.• Getting the phone call from Snoop Dogg.• Dr. Dre changing his life.• The Up In Smoke Tour.• The 2Pac misunderstanding.• Working with De La Soul.• Working with Nate Dogg.• Working with LL Cool J.• Working with Pharoahe Monch.• Why the Golden State Warriors album never happened and all their unreleased material.• Saafir stories.• The Sopranos, starting an acting career and Pimp My Ride.• His golden girl acting teacher moonlighting as his sex therapist.• Signing to Connor McGregor’s Greenback Records. • Listening to Black Crows, Deftones, Peter Gabriel and Janis Jopin.• Xzibit’s hip-hop producer Mount Rushmore.• Kingmaker.Xzibit’s Kingmaker drops May 16th!SUBSCRIBE ► http://bit.ly/434tVhcwww.takeitpersonalradio.comwww.patreon.com/TakeItPersonalFollow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio

Take It Personal (Ep 163: Andre 3000 Tribute)
Since Y2K, 3K became a part-time rapper. It's been a discussion for the last 25 years. After Stankonia dropped, there were frequent rumors about Outkast was breaking up to pursue solo careers. Those rumors lingered for years, then we got what we thought was going to be their last album as a group. Thanks to some label politics, contractual obligations and marketing trickery at its finest, we didn't really get the last Outkast album, we got Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which was precisely the start of their solo careers. It's not like many of us didn't want this, it's that we didn't expect it. And we certainly didn't expect Andre 3000 to stray from the very thing that made us appreciate him and that was his otherworldly ability at rapping. Big Boi would an ace on any staff, but his partner happened to be an all-time great. Andre Benjamin solidified that status after the 3rd consecutive classic, Aquemini in 1998. In just 4 short years, Andre jumped the line and entered the top emcee lists. He became a favorite for many and a GOAT for some. He was the reason fans outside of the South even paid attention to it. Sure, groups like Geto Boys, U.G.K., 8Ball & MJG and 2 Live Crew helped paved the way but like Andre said at The Source Awards, "I'm tired of them closed minded folks, it's like we gotta demo tape but don't nobody want to hear it. But it's like this: the South got something to say, that's all I got to say." The Dirty South was born and a legend was made. And like many legends, we marvel at them for as long as they allow us to. Stars fade for various reasons. Some to an untimely death. Some get caught up in the fame and some simply losing the passion. Whether it's Jimi Hendrix, Joy Division, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, Kurt Cobain, 2Pac or Jeff Buckley, losing the ability to witness their greatness isn't something us fans can come to grips with.Andre is a unicorn. He's always had a unique style and sound. He was mature beyond his years. He had a remarkable ability at storytelling and his delivery was bar none. He had mental prowess and his skill at entertaining and articulating the fundamental understanding of life was a thing of beauty. Only the greats really get a pass when it comes to fashion. Michael Jackson had that pass. Prince had that pass. David Bowie had that pass. Andre Benjamin had that pass. It's a testament to their greatness. Their influence. Their timeless classics. It didn't matter he wore a wig like ear a wig like Morrie or would throw on a sundress or kilt because he just felt like it, Andre 3000, the rapper, could do no wrong in our eyes. We've been blessed with the occasional guest verse throughout the years, but it's never enough. We've been teased with thought of new music from Andre, but then we end up with the soundtrack to The Legend of Zelda with New Blue Sun.It's easy to shuffle around your top 10 rapper list and replace a few guys from time to time, but you can never replace Andre 3000.www.takeitpersonalradio.comFollow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal

Take It Personal (Ep 151: Dah Shinin' Album Spotlight) with General Steele
On episode 151, we're teleporting back to 1995. If you had a 5-disc CD changer in the whip, chances are you had Dah Shinin' in one of those slots. Tek and Steele announced their presence with authority on Enta da Stage in '93, then dropped the classic Bucktown b/w Let's Git It On single in early '94, which had everyone patiently waiting for their album. In January '95, the wait was over and Dah Shinin' immediately became a favorite. With their witty harmonizing 1-2 punch, along with the Da Beatminerz, Dah Shinin' was classic upon first listen and the birth of what we now know as the Boot Camp Clik. We're joined by General Steele, as we go track-by-track with him on Dah Shinin'. Learn all about your favorites, whether it's Timz 'n' Hood Chek, Sound Bwoy Bureill, Bucktown, Hellucination, Let's Git It On or Cession at da Doghillee. Steele shares intimate details about the making of every track, including the remixes and some non-album cuts. Steele also shares some hilarious and fascinating stories about recording @ D&D Records, Buckshot, Sean Price, working with Mary J. Blige and of course Tupac Shakur. Take It Personal (Ep 120: J Dilla Tribute Pt. 2)
Episode 120 is part 2 of our J Dilla Tribute, it also marks the start of our 7th season doing Take It Personal. We started this podcast in 2016 as an excuse to get together and listen to some great music. Who knew this would bring so many people together from all walks of life? We went from talking about rappers on this show to eventually interviewing the very best of them. Rappers we grew up idolizing, we were "giving them their flowers" before that became a played-out term with our titanic tributes. We're putting the explanation point on the remarkable young career James Yancey had. This extra large episode features 3 mixes clocking in over 4+ hours with early Jay Dee production as well as collaborations with Madlib, Phat Kat, Illa J, Q-Tip, Common, Frank-n-Dank, Chino XL, Royce Da 5'9, DOOM, Raekwon, De La Soul, The Roots and Black Star to name a few. This 2-part tribute features over 125 Dilla tracks and has a runtime of 7.5 hours. This is simply our way saying, J Dilla changed our lives. www.takeitpersonalradio.comFollow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal

Take It Personal (Ep 119: J Dilla Tribute Pt. 1)
Episode 119 is our tribute to one of the greatest producers of all-time, J Dilla. Whether you knew him as Jon Doe, Jay Dee, J. Yancey, Dilla Dog or just Dilla, you knew him as the most influential producer hip-hop has seen in the last quarter century. J Dilla wasn't just a musical genius. He reinvented the way hip-hop was being created. His passion, imagination and the prowess displayed on each track is something we'll never be able to duplicate. J Dilla was simply ahead of his time. On part 1, we're playing the essentials from The Pharcyde, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, The Roots, Janet Jackson, Q-Tip and of course Slum Village. We focus on the solo career of Dilla as well as the collaborations with Madlib, Ghostface Killah, MF DOOM and Jay Electronic. Whether we're talking about Pete Rock, Preemo, Q-Tip, RZA or even Madlib, you can immediately identify their signature sound. They hold a special place in our hearts, but J Dilla's place in different. His music hits different. We can't think of a better way to close-out 2022 than with this 2-part tribute in honor of James Dewitt Yancey. Take It Personal (Ep 90: 1993 Tribute Part 1)
Episode 90 is our 1st installment of our 1993 Tribute. Last year we put together a strong case as to why we thought 1995 was one of the greatest years. This time around we're paying homage to 1993, my favorite year in hip-hop. We've got the classics, the commercial jawns, the remixes, and in typical TIP fashion, the obscure records as well. We aren't sure how deep this tribute will get, but we'll give you everything we've got! At the break, we discuss our favorite '93 albums, the sleepers, the wack, the guilty pleasures, and at the 2nd break its all about the WU! Enjoy episode 90 as we intertwine some memorable movie scene with very memorable music. This is your 1993 time capsule and it's brought to you by your friends at Take It Personal Radio. Take It Personal (Ep 118: A Tribute to Tame One)
Episode 118 is our tribute to the late, great Tame One. We love doing tributes on Take It Personal, but we absolutely hate having to do a tribute them under these conditions. We've lost many great artists over the years like Biz Markie, Kangol Kid, MF DOOM, Prince Markie Dee, Gift of Gab, Shock G, Zumbi, Black Rob, Double K, Len Hub (The Roots), Malik B, DJ Kay Slay, Coolio, Takeoff, Pop Smoke, Hurricane G, Ecstasy, Blacastan and Don Newkirk to name a few. And it feels like we're still getting over the loss of Prodigy, Phife Dawg, Sean Price, Pimp C and Guru. On this episode, we're honoring the art created by Rahem Brown, better known as Tame One, one half of the Artifacts and an intricate part of New Jersey hip-hop movement. Tame entered our lives in the early 90s with witty lyrics, an appreciation for graffiti and a passion for hip-hop. He went on to give us two remarkable albums with El Da Sensei as the Artifacts before he took a journey into his solo career. On this tribute we're showcasing everything from the early days with El and Redman to the Eastern Conference days. We got everything from the Leak Bros to The Weathermen to all his great collabos with artists like Del, Sean Price, Hussein Fatal, Yak Ballz and Govna Mattic. This is our Tame One Tribute. We hope you enjoy it! RIP Tame One www.takeitpersonalradio.comFollow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal

Take It Personal (Ep 115: 1994 Tribute Part 7)
I'll save the long description because you just need to hit that play button! What you're about to listen to is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) years in hip-hop. We all know '88 is the blueprint with It Takes A Nation of Millions, Critical Beatdown, Straight Outta Compton, Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Follow The Leader, Long Live The Kane, Straight Out The Jungle, By All Means Necessary and Strictly Business. But do you really listen to more music from 1988 than 1994? That's the difference and we plan to make the case starting with part 1 of our 1994 Tribute. In the meantime, here are 6 simple steps we ask from you. 1. Hit play.2. Grab some old Source magazines from '94 to read while listening.3. If you're streaming on Spotify or iTunes, please rate and review our show.4. Become a Patreon member for a few bucks a month and support your favorite podcast https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal5.
