Take It Personal (Ep 186: Beef)

On Episode 186 of Take It Personal Radio, we're diving headfirst into one of hip-hop's most compelling traditions: the beef record. We've assembled some of the greatest diss tracks and rivalries in rap history and woven them into one cinematic audio documentary. From Boogie Down Productions vs. MC Shan and LL Cool J vs. Kool Moe Dee, Hammer, Ice-T and Canibus to N.W.A vs. Ice Cube, Eazy-E vs. Dr. Dre, Nas vs. Jay-Z, and 2Pac vs. everybody, we explore the battles that shaped the culture. We also revisit clashes including Ice Cube vs. Cypress Hill, Ice Cube vs. Common, DJ Quik vs. MC Eiht, Uncle Luke vs. Dr. Dre, and more. There’s far too much history to cover in a single episode, but we do what TIP does best: deliver a carefully curated, immersive listening experience packed with legendary records, unforgettable moments, and the stories behind hip-hop’s most infamous feuds. Press play and experience the beefs that helped define rap music. At the break, we dissect these rap beefs. The good ones, the bad ones, even the embarrassing ones. And we have a bunch of giveaways as well thanks to Boundless Audio, Mike's Hot Honey, Homage, Get On Down Records, B-Side Buttons, Mr. Chico International and the Late Night Record Pool.   • Mike’s Hot Honey • B-Side Buttons — use code TIP25 for 25% off • Get On Down • Homage • Mr. Chico International • Boundless Audio • Late Night Record Pool — use code TIP10 for 10% off   You’re listening to Take It Personal Radio — where hip-hop lives, legends are honored, and the music always speaks louder than words.   📸 Instagram: @takeitpersonalradio 🛒Store: takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com 💖 Patreon: patreon.com/TakeItPersonal  🎧 Listen on:  Apple Podcasts / iTunes  Amazon Music  Spotify  Pandora  iHeartRadio  Player FM  Podchaser  Vevo YouTube Channel

Take It Personal Flashback (Miami Bass Tribute Mix)

On this flashback episode, we’re bringing you our Miami Bass Tribute Mix. The Miami Bass movement was a dominant force throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, powered by legendary artists like 2 Live Crew, MC Shy D, Planet Patrol, Gucci Crew, Anquette, Poison Clan, and Clay D. DJs were just as instrumental in shaping the sound—names like Mr. Mixx, DJ Magic Mike, DJ Laz, Uncle Al, Jam Pony Express, Felix Sama, Power Supply, and Jealous J (Jim Jonsin) helped drive the culture forward. While many immediately think of Uncle Luke when Miami Bass is mentioned, the scene ran much deeper—truly “thick,” as 360 would say. Long before the rise of artists like Pitbull, Flo Rida, Kodak Black, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, Stitches, Lil Pump, and XXXTENTACION, this was the sound defining Miami. This 1 hour and 23 minute mix serves as a curated timeline of Miami Bass, capturing its evolution over the years. As the sound progressed, it may have leaned away from its heavy bass roots, but every track included here represents a meaningful moment in Miami’s musical history. We know our core audience leans East Coast—and we all know where hip-hop began—but if you’re a fan of Take It Personal, you already know we pride ourselves on covering all regions. It’s important to listen, understand, and appreciate what other areas—especially the South—have contributed to the culture. You may not love every track, but each one was selected with purpose. This is our Miami Bass Tribute. We hope you enjoy the ride. On today's flashback episode, we're hitting you with our '92 celebration,  and we couldn't think of a better way to pay homage than with the legendary Sports Illustrated cover featuring the '92 Dream Team. Episode 89 is an appetizer, as we take a quick-trip down memory lane before making a hard stop on one of the greatest years hip-hop. We've got music from Real Live, Royal Flush, Black Attack, Bahamadia, Scientific, Masta Ace, Big L, Mac Miller, Ras Kass, Lexicon, Mic Geronimo, Blacastan, Darc Mind, Reks, Jigmastas, Common and of course, Jay-Z. Take It Personal (Ep 182: Bob Power, You There?)

On Episode 182 of Take It Personal Radio, we pay homage to the late, great Bob Power. More than an engineer, Bob was an architect of sound — helping shape the standard in hip-hop.   From A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Common, to De La Soul, his legacy is woven into the culture. This episode is dedicated to that legacy.   At the break: we dive into Bob’s catalog, announce our Get On Down giveaway winners, and pay respects to another fallen soldier, Lord Sear.   You’re listening to Take It Personal Radio — where hip-hop lives, legends are honored, and the music always speaks louder than words. 📸 Instagram: @takeitpersonalradio 🛒Store: takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com 💖 Patreon: patreon.com/TakeItPersonal  🎧 Listen on:  Apple Podcasts / iTunes  Amazon Music  Spotify  Pandora  iHeartRadio  Player FM  Podchaser  Vevo YouTube Channel

Take It Personal (Ep 181: M-E-T-H-O-D to Our Madness)

On Episode 181 of Take It Personal Radio, we’re doing something a little different. After 10 years and more than 180 shows, you’ve got to get a little creative. So we put together two remarkable mixes with one common theme: Method Man. These aren’t all songs that feature Method Man (although there are a few of those in here). Instead, these are joints that sample Method Man. And since there are so many great ones out there, we thought it would be a really cool idea to gather them all up and dedicate an entire episode to them. We’ve got music from Shyheim, Ras Kass, E.C. Illa, Frankie Cutlass, Keith Murray, The Beatnuts, Artifacts, Lords of the Underground, Gang Starr, Apathy, Homeliss Derilek, 13, Kane & Abel, MF Grimm, Marley Marl, The Whoridas, Naughty By Nature and so much more. At the break, we also talk about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees for the 2026 induction — who truly belongs, who doesn’t, and who gets our vote. We’ll be playing a wide range of tracks produced by Q-Tip — bootlegs, B-sides, and remixes — spanning artists like Apache, Diamond D, Run-D.M.C.,  Boogie Down Productions, Nas, Mobb Deep, Heavy D, LL Cool J, Roc Marci, Pusha T, plus a selection of non-album A Tribe Called Quest joints.  We’re hitting you with two mixes, all Q-Tip production. This is An Ode to The Abstract.   You’re listening to Take It Personal Radio — where hip-hop lives, legends are honored, and the music always speaks louder than words. 📸 Instagram: @takeitpersonalradio 🛒Store: takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com 💖 Patreon: patreon.com/TakeItPersonal  🎧 Listen on:  Apple Podcasts / iTunes  Amazon Music  Spotify  Pandora  iHeartRadio  Player FM  Podchaser  Vevo YouTube Channel

Take It Personal Flashback (A Tribute to Mafioso Rap)

Flashback to episode 83, our Tribute to "Mafioso" Rap. We thought it would be fun to incorporate some of our favorite Sopranos scenes throughout this show to properly pay respects to the lost and limited art of "true" mafioso rap. There is only one Godfather and that is Kool G. Rap, so, naturally Episode 83 is laced with plenty of his best mafia influenced tracks, but we also show love to mid-90s where lyricists like AZ, Jay-Z, Nas, Big Pun, Fat Joe, The Lox, Biggie and Raekwon did the sub-genre the best.   Plus, the crew joins Johnny Calzone in a wiseguy version of name that tune. Take It Personal (Ep 177: The Rock Show)

If rock music isn’t your thing, this episode probably isn’t either — and that’s fine. We’ve got 176 others waiting for you. But if you live for great records, bold ideas, and the kind of genre-bending that Danger Mouse mastered and the legendary DJ Spinbad (R.I.P.) made feel effortless, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. Big Pun over Journey. Biggie over Pink Floyd. Scarface over The Eagles. A Tribe Called Quest over Jimi Hendrix. KRS-One over Oasis. Nas over Red Hot Chili Peppers. Slick Rick over Nirvana. Dr. Dre over Phil Collins. Crooklyn Dodgers over Stone Temple Pilots. Organized Konfusion over Blue Oyster Cult. N.W.A. over The Mamas & The Papas. These mash-ups weren’t on your Take It Personal bingo card — and that’s the point. Expect the unexpected. This episode delivers two heavy-duty mixes pulling from Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, The Who, Rush, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, Redman, Beastie Boys, RUN-DMC, Public Enemy, and more. At the break, we crack it open with some listener Q&A, then push things forward in Mix 2 by jumping ahead and hitting you with modern rock classics. Take It Personal (Ep 175: 2Pac Tribute Part 2)

We hit you with the bangers in Part 1… But Part 2? That’s the one for the real heads. It seems like Part 2s are always the fan favorites — more obscure, more cohesive, more personal. We came out swinging for the masses last time, but this round, we’re diving deep. The music isn’t in strict chronological order, but it feels like a journey — from Pac’s earliest work all the way to Makaveli. You’ll hear the deep album cuts, the rare joints, and the timeless fan favorites. We’ve got the collabos — and I guarantee a few joints you’ve probably never heard before. Treach, Big Daddy Kane, Freddie Foxxx, South Central Cartel, Above the Law, Young Lay, Richie Rich, E-40, Too $hort, Boot Camp Clik, Dogg Pound, and even Hammer all show up on this one. Three mixes in total — 4+ hours here and 3.5 on Part 1. That’s over seven and a half hours of 2Pac. At the break, we’re giving away a few autographed copies of Jeff Pearlman’s Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur. Take It Personal - Jeff Pearlman Interview (Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur)

Coming off our Eminem tribute, we’re going back-to-back with another one. This time, we’re paying homage to one of the most polarizing artists of all time: 2Pac.   You might remember way back in episode 16, we dropped a 2Pac mini-mix for our West Coast Classics series. Well, here we are — 158 episodes later — finally giving you our official 2Pac Tribute.   We’re joined by New York Times best-selling author Jeff Pearlman, who stops by to talk all things 2Pac. Jeff’s new book, Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur, is in stores now. This isn’t your typical biography — it’s honest, unfiltered, and deeply researched. It’s arguably the most complete and insightful 2Pac bio ever written.   Over the course of two-plus hours, we dive deep into the book as Jeff shares fascinating behind-the-scenes stories you won’t want to miss. And for those familiar with his earlier work — from Sports Illustrated and ESPN to books on Bo Jackson, Barry Bonds, the ’86 Mets, Brett Favre, Roger Clemens, and his Showtime book that inspired HBO’s Winning Time — we even touch on some of those classics too.   We’re also giving away a few signed copies of Jeff’s new book!   And of course, you know how TIP does tributes — two full mixes spanning Pac’s early years, from the Digital Underground days through Death Row and everything in between. We’re weaving through eras to keep the music fresh, with collabs, crazy clips, freestyles, and the timeless classics. There’s so much to cover that we’re even blessing you with a Part 2 coming this November.   2Pac would have turned 54 years old today. He died at just 25. Think about that — he’s been gone longer than he lived, and yet his influence remains as strong as ever. No matter how you feel about him, there’s no denying the impact he had on music and culture.   2Pac wasn’t a lyricist in the traditional sense, but nobody matched his emotion, passion, or message. You felt every word he wrote. For us, that connection outweighs any technical metric.   You might go to Tarantino for dialogue — but if you want to feel something, you turn to Spielberg. That was 2Pac. And that’s why we’re doing this tribute.   As always, this is Take It Personal Radio — the home of hip-hop history and timeless tributes, giving legends like 2Pac their due.   Follow & Support Take It Personal Radio   📸 Instagram: @takeitpersonalradio🛒 Store: takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com💖 Patreon: patreon.com/TakeItPersonal   🎧 Listen on:  Apple Podcasts / iTunes  Amazon Music  Spotify  Pandora  iHeartRadio  Player FM  Podchaser  Vevo YouTube Channel

Take It Personal (Ep 173: Eminem Tribute - The Early Years)

It’s finally time we pay homage to one of the best to ever do it. Maybe it took us a little longer because we know how polarizing Eminem can be — but Take It Personal has always been about cataloging music, honoring the culture, and letting the music speak louder than our words.   On today’s episode, we bring you our Eminem Tribute: The Early Years. You either love him, hate him, or fall somewhere in between — and that’s why we drew a line in the sand and focused on what we feel were his best years: the early years.   We’re taking it all the way back to the beginning and stopping around 2001 — when hunger, chaos, and genius collided.   There’s no denying the impact Eminem had on hip-hop. We cover everything from Soul Intent, Infinite, The Slim Shady EP and LP, to The Marshall Mathers LP. We’ve got the demos, the collabos, the diss tracks, the underground gems — and even a few joints you’ve probably never heard before.   This is more than a tribute — it’s a time capsule. From basement recordings to chart-toppers, we’re celebrating the raw, unfiltered energy that made Em a legend. Press play, turn it up, and relive The Early Years with Take It Personal Radio.   Follow & Support Take It Personal Radio   📸 Instagram: @takeitpersonalradio 🛒 Store: takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com 💖 Patreon: patreon.com/TakeItPersonal   🎧 Listen on:  Apple Podcasts / iTunes  Amazon Music  Spotify  Pandora  iHeartRadio  Player FM  Podchaser  Vevo YouTube Channel

Take It Personal Flashback (Native Tongues Tribute - Spotify Version)

On this flashback of Take It Personal, we're hitting you with a combined remastered version of episodes 29 & 30, our Native Tongues Tribute. This 12+ hour episode features music from the most important, and influential hip-hop collective we've ever seen.   With the help and hustle of both DJ Red Alert and Chris Lighty, the Native Tongues were a force to be reckoned with. The Jungle Brothers paved the way for groups like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Black Sheep. Prior to The Flava Unit, Queen Latifah was this crew's Den mother. Along with her protege Monie Love, they were both instrumental in helping the female movement in hip-hop.   The Native Tongues provided plenty of classic albums, countless anthems and produced more offspring than Joe Jackson. The Natives helped jumpstart the careers of Busta Rhymes, Chi-Ali, Mos Def, J Dilla and have influenced artists such as Brand Nubian, K.M.D., Common, The Beatnuts, Bush Babees, The Roots, Slum Village, Little Brother, Kanye West, Black Star, Pharrell, Hieroglyphics, The Pharcyde, J5, Kedrick Lamar, Pusha T, Andre 3000 and even Nas. They've influenced everyone!   The Native Tongue brand was strong despite some internal conflict, growing pains and different career paths. They left an everlasting impression on hip-hop. It's our privilege to present to you our Native Tongues Tribute! www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal

Take It Personal Flashback (Street Level Spotlight) with Al' Tariq & Psycho Les

On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with a remastered edition of Episode 67, our album spotlight on the timeless Beatnut's classic Street Level. It's been 4 years since we recorded this episode and our feelings about this album haven't changed a bit.   We got to relive this classic album track-by-track with special guests Al' Tariq aka Kool Fashion and Psycho Les. We speak to Al Tariq first and later Les joins with his own perspective. Then, in typical Take It Personal fashion, and we reunite these two guys for the first time in many, many years. In '94, we became immune to classic releases because they were dropping weekly.    Street Level isn’t just a classic album, it’s damn near perfect, front to back. The production is some of the finest you'll ever hear, too. While The Nuts went on to have greater success as a duo with chart-topping hits such as Off The Books and Watch Out Now, their energy and wit always seemed the best when they were a trio.   We released both stand-alone interviews of Al' Tariq and Psycho Les on our Vevo (Youtube) channel, as they discuss their solo ventures, Junkyard Juju, the reintroduction of Big Pun, J-Lo stealing their beat, plus life after The Nuts. There's even a discussion about a possible reunion.   Revisit our Tribute to Street Level - we know you're going to LOVE IT!    www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Follow us on Instagram @ takeitpersonalradio

Take It Personal (Miami Bass Tribute Mix)

The Miami Bass movement was extremely prominent in the 80s and 90s, thanks to legendary artists like 2 Live Crew, MC Shy D, Planet Patrol, Gucci Crew, Anquette, Poison Clan and Clay D. The DJ’s also played a significant role in the movement as well, like Mr. Mixx, DJ Magic Mike, DJ Laz, Uncle Al, Jam Pony Express, Felix Sama, Power Supply and Jealous J (Jim Jonsin).   While most people think Uncle Luke when talking about Miami Bass, the scene was so thick as Andre would say. Before you had Pitbull, Flo Rida, Kodak Black, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, Stitches, Lil Pump or XXXTENTACION, you had this great music featured on our 1 hour and 23 minute mix.   We know our core audience is prominently east coast (bias) and we all know where hip-hop started. If you’re a fan of Take It Personal, you’ll know we cover everything and take pride in showcasing music from all over. But it’s important to listen, understand and appreciate what other regions like the South have to offer. We don’t expect you to love everything we play, but everything played on this tribute was played for a reason. This is an extensive timeline of Miami Bass themed music and while the Miami sound evolved and featured less bass as the years went on, all these tracks capture an important time in music, especially in the MIA. Take It Personal (2Pac Mini Mix Tribute)

One of my favorite tributes on Take It Personal has been our West Coast Classic series. Many years ago, on West Coast Classics III (episode 16), we dropped this 2Pac mini-mix.   It's no secret that I'm a huge Pac fan. I know that's really not something people who love Kool Keith or MF DOOM willingly admits, but I do. From 1993-1995, Pac was an absolute beast. His Death Row material is cool, but I felt like we got the real Pac before joined Suge and the gang.   I've always felt his voice, his delivery and his storytelling ability made him extremely special. Much like Ice Cube or Scarface, Pac was just as talented in painting that vivid tale on wax.   This mix is JUST an appetizer(we promise). It does NOT feature everything, especially some of my favorite Pac collaborations, but it's a reminder of what we do when it comes to tributes. This summer, we'll be honoring the late Tupac Shakur.   I strongly suggest you to revisit our West Coast Classic series (episode 14-17), where we feature many other mini-tributes such as Ice Cube, Hieroglyphics, Golden State Warriors, Death Row Records, Pharcyde, Likwit Crew, Cypress Hill and the west coast underground with Dilated Peoples, Freestyle Fellowship, Defari, Planet Asia, Rasco & Encore.   While this 2Pac mini-mix is just a taste of what's coming, there are a lot of Pac songs features on West Coast Classics not featured on this mix.    Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonalradio Stores: https://takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal   Streaming Options Itunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/take-it-personal-radio/id1175478134 Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/99e795cf-e436-4c49-8702-6e757a8f9d63 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIsDmpjU5VX4tUzndHl24?si=86da39f899ac4149 Pandora: https://www.pandora.com/podcast/take-it-personal-radio/PC:1001105506 iHeart: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1323-take-it-personal-radio-210740328 PlayerFM: https://player.fm/series/3596383 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/take-it-personal-radio-5824134 Vevo: https://www.youtube.com/@takeitpersonalvevo4676

Take It Personal Flashback (Mos Def Tribute)

On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with our Mos Def tribute. If there was a poster that defined the indie hip-hop movement, it would have the face of The Mighty Mos Def on it. Whether you first heard him on My Kung Fu, The Love Song or Stakes Is High Remix, you immediately knew what you heard was special. We're talking a generational talent. Mos Def had the voice, the sound, the style, the charm, the humor, the endless stories and the ability to spit bars as great as singing those melodic hooks. A real dual-threat. Triple-threat when you factor in his acting chops. If LL Cool J is the face of Def Jam, Mos Def is the face of Rawkus. He breathed new life into hip-hop in the late 90s. Mos was the last Jedi able to carry on that Native Tongues torch. On Episode 85, we cover the catalog, the guest spots and discuss our favorite Mos Def moments. Take It Personal (Ep 164: Xzibit Tribute + Interview) with Xzibit

Ever since we first heard “Free Style Ghetto” off King Tee’s IV Life album, we were all-in on Xzibit. Here was this hungry rapper, sporting this distinct husky voice with an extraordinary flow, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see him later on become a household name. Whether you first heard him with King Tee, Tha Alkaholiks or maybe you first caught Xzibit on Bitch Please or What’s The Difference, there is no denying that when you heard him, you knew it was something special. We call this an interview, but it’s really a 2-hour discussion amongst rap fans and there is no bigger fan of rap than Mr. X to the Z. On this episode we have 3 mixes with over 75 tracks highlighting his incredible career. We’ve got the classics, the features and all those obscure collabos for our underground heads. This one of the most informative and entertaining interviews Xzibit has done. Here’s what we got into: • Leaving Albuquerque for Los Angeles. • Debuting on Free Style Ghetto and working with King Tee and Tha Alkaholiks. • Steve Rifkind signing him to Loud Records. • Beefing with Steve Rifkind. • Bigga B and Unity. • Sir Jinx. • What U See Is What U Get music video. • Getting the phone call from Snoop Dogg. • Dr. Dre changing his life. • The Up In Smoke Tour. • The 2Pac misunderstanding. • Working with De La Soul. • Working with Nate Dogg. • Working with LL Cool J. • Working with Pharoahe Monch. • Why the Golden State Warriors album never happened and all their unreleased material. • Saafir stories. • The Sopranos, starting an acting career and Pimp My Ride. • His golden girl acting teacher moonlighting as his sex therapist. • Signing to Connor McGregor’s Greenback Records.  • Listening to Black Crows, Deftones, Peter Gabriel and Janis Jopin. • Xzibit’s hip-hop producer Mount Rushmore. • Kingmaker. Take It Personal (Ep 163: Andre 3000 Tribute)

Since Y2K, 3K became a part-time rapper. It's been a discussion for the last 25 years. After Stankonia dropped, there were frequent rumors about Outkast was breaking up to pursue solo careers.   Those rumors lingered for years, then we got what we thought was going to be their last album as a group. Thanks to some label politics, contractual obligations and marketing trickery at its finest, we didn't really get the last Outkast album, we got Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which was precisely the start of their solo careers.    It's not like many of us didn't want this, it's that we didn't expect it. And we certainly didn't expect Andre 3000 to stray from the very thing that made us appreciate him and that was his otherworldly ability at rapping. Big Boi would an ace on any staff, but his partner happened to be an all-time great.  Andre Benjamin solidified that status after the 3rd consecutive classic, Aquemini in 1998.    In just 4 short years, Andre jumped the line and entered the top emcee lists. He became a favorite for many and a GOAT for some. He was the reason fans outside of the South even paid attention to it. Sure, groups like Geto Boys, U.G.K., 8Ball & MJG and 2 Live Crew helped paved the way but like Andre said at The Source Awards, "I'm tired of them closed minded folks, it's like we gotta demo tape but don't nobody want to hear it. But it's like this: the South got something to say, that's all I got to say."    The Dirty South was born and a legend was made. And like many legends, we marvel at them for as long as they allow us to. Stars fade for various reasons. Some to an untimely death. Some get caught up in the fame and some simply losing the passion. Whether it's Jimi Hendrix, Joy Division, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, Kurt Cobain, 2Pac or Jeff Buckley, losing the ability to witness their greatness isn't something us fans can come to grips with.   Andre is a unicorn. He's always had a unique style and sound. He was mature beyond his years. He had a remarkable ability at storytelling and his delivery was bar none. He had mental prowess and his skill at entertaining and articulating the fundamental understanding of life was a thing of beauty.    Only the greats really get a pass when it comes to fashion. Michael Jackson had that pass. Prince had that pass. David Bowie had that pass. Andre Benjamin had that pass. It's a testament to their greatness. Their influence. Their timeless classics. It didn't matter he wore a wig like ear a wig like Morrie or would throw on a sundress or kilt because he just felt like it, Andre 3000,  the rapper, could do no wrong in our eyes.     We've been blessed with the occasional guest verse throughout the years, but it's never enough. We've been teased with thought of new music from Andre, but then we end up with the soundtrack to The Legend of Zelda with New Blue Sun.   It's easy to shuffle around your top 10 rapper list and replace a few guys from time to time, but you can never replace Andre 3000.   www.takeitpersonalradio.com Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonal Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal

Take It Personal (Ep 151: Dah Shinin' Album Spotlight) with General Steele

On episode 151, we're teleporting back to 1995. If you had a 5-disc CD changer in the whip, chances are you had Dah Shinin' in one of those slots.   Tek and Steele announced their presence with authority on Enta da Stage in '93, then dropped the classic Bucktown b/w Let's Git It On single in early '94, which had everyone patiently waiting for their album.  In January '95, the wait was over and Dah Shinin' immediately became a favorite. With their witty harmonizing 1-2 punch, along with the Da Beatminerz, Dah Shinin' was classic upon first listen and the birth of what we now know as the Boot Camp Clik.  We're joined by General Steele, as we go track-by-track with him on Dah Shinin'. Learn all about your favorites, whether it's Timz 'n' Hood Chek, Sound Bwoy Bureill, Bucktown, Hellucination, Let's Git It On or Cession at da Doghillee. Steele shares intimate details about the making of every track, including the remixes and some non-album cuts.  Steele also shares some hilarious and fascinating stories about recording @ D&D Records, Buckshot, Sean Price, working with Mary J. Blige and of course Tupac Shakur.  If you're a Smif-N-Wessun fan or a Boot Camp fan, you're not going to want to miss this episode!   Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal Online store: https://take-it-personal.creator-spring.com/ (enter BUCKTOWN for 25% off) www.takeitpersonalradio.com
