In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Telling Stories ep. 833 J.S.Watts is a British poet and novelist who weaves the fantastical and the literary with other vibrant strands to create glowing, multi-faceted writing.  Her poetry, short stories and non-fiction appear in a wide variety of publications in Britain, the US and abroad and have been broadcast on BBC and Independent Radio. She has edited various magazines and anthologies and performed her poetry across England, Scotland and Wales, but not yet in Ireland (should anyone from Ireland be reading this). J.S.'s three poetry collections, Cats and Other Myths, Years Ago You Coloured Me and Underword, are published by Lapwing Publications, as is her multi-award nominated SF poetry pamphlet, Songs of Steelyard Sue. Her poetry pamphlet, The Submerged Sea, was published by Dempsey & Windle. Her novels, A Darker Moon – dark fiction, Witchlight, Old Light and Elderlight – an urban fantasy trilogy, are published in the US and UK by Vagabondage Press.  For further details see her website: http://www.jswatts.co.uk J.S. also has a Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/J.S.Watts.page and is on Bluesky https://bsky.app/profile/j-s-watts.bsky.social   This story was published in the Lorelei Signal in July 2025   ---- Listen Elsewhere ---- YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/c/TallTaleTV Website: http://www.TallTaleTV.com   ---- Story Submission ---- Got a short story you'd like to submit? "Old Oak Greg" - A dream-like fantasy short story about the wisdom in nature and transformation in silence - by Vladimir Hlocky

Old Oak Greg ep.803 Vladimir Hlocky writes experimental short stories ranging from Fantasy and Sci-Fi to genres that are hardly definable. Old Oak Greg is one of the less experimental ones, but that does not mean it should be boring. he usually tries to convey a sense of dreaminess, childlike wonder, and symbolism in his stories. Sometimes he employs narrative concepts that have never been used before, in which he likes to break the barrier between the reader and the stories. Sometimes they should twist your mind, or inspire you, or provoke you, but he wants you at all times to feel like the center of the universe. They should be a place where people can escape to and feel like everything is possible, even if for a while. Regarding his readerbase, it'd be nice to have one one day, but he's far more concerned with writing stories that he feels content with, readerbase or not. He has Journeys Beyond Earth available on Amazon in case somebody really wanted to read them (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RCXBKHS). He lives in a town near Prague, Czech Republic.   ---- Listen Elsewhere ---- YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/c/TallTaleTV Website: http://www.TallTaleTV.com   ---- Story Submission ---- Got a short story you'd like to submit? Of Monsters and Mushrooms, Ch. 9 (Book 1 NEW!) - A Hilarious Sci-Fantasy Serialized Novel by Lesley Herron

Of Monsters and Mushrooms, Ch. 9 (book 1 NEW) ep.798 Killin' Babies NOTE: This is a rewrite of book 1. Originally, 'Of Monsters and Mushrooms' was supposed to be a multi-part short story that transformed halfway through into a novel. This left the plot (and the voice acting, to be honest) lacking. We decided to go back and completely rewrite book one to fix any plot holes and bring the quality in line with the rest of the series.
