Standing With Your Own Heart: A Contemplation

To stand in integrity with yourself, no matter what — no matter what — is perhaps the deepest vow a human being can make. Because in the end, as in the beginning, the real question is not whether the world approved of you, understood you, or agreed with you. The question is: could you stand with your own heart? Could you remain beside your own truth?   And if that truth is deeply listened to, beneath all the noise, fear, and performance, it almost always returns to the same place: love. Presence. Kindness. Compassion.   Imagine if human beings truly stood in their deepest truth — not in ideology, identity, or fear, but in the quiet essence beneath all conditioning. Perhaps then the world itself would begin to remember what it is. For beneath the divisions and noise, the deepest truth of the human heart has always been love. To Stand at The Threshold is To Be Undone and Remade by The Same Hand

To stand at the threshold is to enter the space where the old self can no longer fully remain, yet the new self has not completely emerged. It is a place of surrender, uncertainty, loss, revelation, and transformation. The same mystery that dismantles our certainties, identities, and defenses is also the force that reshapes us more deeply into truth, presence, and wholeness. In this sense, what undoes us and what heals us are not separate movements, but expressions of the same hidden love moving through human life. Love Notes XXXII

Stay close to the breath. Not to the mind that measures and searches, but to the quiet tide beneath all things. The breath arrives before the wound, before the longing, before the story of who you are. And sometimes, if you listen carefully enough, it begins to whisper: nothing is missing. Trauma The Nervous System and The Long Return To Wholeness

To all my brothers and sisters out there living with trauma, nervous system overwhelm, dissociation, dysautonomia, grief, fear, exhaustion, or silent battles few others fully understand — I write this in solidarity with you. Not as someone who has all the answers, but as someone who has traveled through profound states of fragmentation and somehow continued returning, again and again, toward wholeness, love, and life. If any part of these reflections helps another human being feel less alone inside their own experience, then perhaps some good can come from all those years of struggle and return. The Other Side Of Silence : A Meditation

Tonight, there is nowhere to go. Nothing to solve. Nothing to become. Only this breath. Only this moment. At the edge of the great quiet, we sit together for a little while — letting the body soften, letting the silence hold us, and remembering that even when we forget love, love has never forgotten us. A gentle meditation from the other side of silence. Nigel Lott teaandzen.org In the quiet between heartbeats a whisper calls you home, you are not broken you are becoming. The Wisdom Of The Heart

In this writing we explore the quiet power of surrender — not as defeat, but as a doorway to divine grace. True wisdom is not born of the intellect, but of the heart. When we yield to the present moment with humility, we come before love itself, before God, where the deepest questions of the soul are answered. In embracing the true wisdom of the heart, we offer no resistance to circumstance, surrendering fully with the utmost humility. In this surrender, we come before the ONE living truth, of a love beyond measure, where all questions are answered with the utmost grace, and without reservation. Nigel Lott teaandzen.org These words point to a profound spiritual truth: true wisdom is not born of the intellect, but of the heart. When we surrender to life’s circumstances without resistance, we allow the flow of absolute grace to enter our being. This act of surrender is not one of weakness, but of strength and trust. It is through humility….yielding to the present moment….that we encounter love in its purest form, the presence of our original nature, ONE with all that is. In the quiet of surrender, we find answers to the deepest questions of the soul. No longer bound by the need for control or certainty, we open ourselves to a wisdom far beyond the mind’s capacity. Here, in the embrace of grace, we discover that love itself holds the answers, guiding us with a gentle, unwavering certainty. To surrender is not to give up, but to give over…..to give over to the universal flow, to the intelligence of the heart. In this sacred act, all is revealed, and peace follows. In the stillness of the heart, we are never lost; we are always found. Nigel Lott. Meditation Sans Frontieres 501 (C) 3 Non Profit, Registered Charity Tax Ein 81-3411835. Where Change Truly Begins

Knowledge can tell us what needs to change. It offers the facts, the reasons, the clarity. It can show us what’s broken—and even suggest what might be better. But knowing something… doesn’t mean we’ve changed. Real change—the kind that reshapes a life, the kind that moves us from the inside out—comes not from the mind, but from the heart. You can understand a thing a thousand times in your head and still not take a single step in your being. Because until that knowing is felt—until it becomes tender, lived, held with love—it hasn’t yet become wisdom. Wisdom is different. Wisdom is knowledge that has been softened. It has passed through the fire… through sorrow, through surrender… and come out the other side as something quieter. Kinder. Truer. Wisdom lives in the heart. It doesn’t rush. It doesn’t insist. It waits. It calls—gently—and lets us come when we’re ready. So yes, learn. Read. Listen. Understand. But don’t stop there. Let what you’ve learned drop down—into the quiet of your own heart. Let it rest there, in the stillness… Let it steep in your tears, your longing, your love. And then, when the time is right, let it rise—not as something to strive for, but as something that’s already true in you. That’s where real change begins. That’s where we begin again. Guided Meditation on The Geometry of Resistance and Surrender

Begin by finding a quiet space. Sit or lie down comfortably. Let your eyes gently close. Take a slow breath in through your nose, and exhale softly through your mouth. Let your body begin to settle, like a feather drifting to the earth. Again, breathe in… and breathe out. Feel the ground beneath you — not just as surface, but as presence. Let it hold you like an ancient friend. Beneath you lies a living, breathing earth that has witnessed storms and stars, oceans and fire. You are resting upon something wise. Now gently bring your awareness to your body. Let your attention drift from the crown of your head down to your toes. Where is there tension, tightness, or holding? Perhaps it’s your jaw, your shoulders, your chest, your belly, your hands. No need to change anything. Just notice. You are witnessing the body’s deep intelligence — its instinct to protect. Imagine now that this tension has a shape. What does it look like? Is it jagged, dense, heavy? Is it dark, or glowing, or muted? This is the geometry of resistance — a sacred architecture created by your nervous system. It is not wrong. It is a part of your story. It once helped you survive. Silently, gently say to this shape: “Thank you for protecting me. You may rest now.” Take a soft breath into that area. And as you exhale, imagine the edges beginning to dissolve. They don’t vanish; they simply soften, like mist in the morning light. Now bring your attention to your heart. Imagine a warm light glowing there — gentle and circular. It may be golden, rose-colored, or whatever tone your soul instinctively trusts. This is the geometry of surrender. Not collapse, but opening. Not giving up, but letting go. With each breath, let this light grow. It expands from your heart into your chest, your shoulders, your arms. It flows down through your legs, up into your face and crown. Soon, it begins to radiate out beyond your body — a sphere of soft light that gently surrounds you. You are luminous. Repeat silently to yourself: “I am safe to soften. I am safe to receive. I am safe to trust.” Let these words become like ripples in a still lake, moving outward from your heart into the silence. Now lift your awareness beyond your body. Rise gently above the space you’re in — above your room, your home, your city. Let your consciousness ascend above the earth, floating lightly in the star-filled stillness of space. See the earth below — spinning, glowing, alive. You are part of this wonder. You are not separate. You never were. Feel your heart shining in harmony with this vastness. This is not imagination; this is remembrance. You are the meeting point of spirit and form — a sacred expression of the infinite. If any resistance returns, that’s okay. See its shape. Breathe into it. Soften its edges. Meet it with kindness, just as you did before. You are not here to fix anything. You are here to listen, to open, to return. Now take one more deep breath. Inhale clarity. Exhale softness. Inhale light. Exhale trust. Begin to return. Gently descend back to your body, like a soul returning to its temple. Feel the ground beneath you again — quiet, strong, awake. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Bring movement back with reverence. When you’re ready, open your eyes slowly. Look around. Let the world come into focus. And carry this spaciousness with you — into the next breath, into the next moment, into the sacred rhythm of your life. A LOVING KINDNESS MEDITATION

A Soft Return to the Heart This meditation is a quiet invitation to return—to the tenderness that lives beneath all defenses, to the love that asks for nothing, to the part of you that still wishes others well, even after all you’ve been through. Loving-kindness is not performance. It is remembrance. A reawakening of the sacred ache to bless what lives—within and around us. Begin gently. There is no need to force. Let the phrases rise like prayer, spoken not to change anything, but to open everything.   This sanctuary is a weaving of tenderness and truth, silence and story, devotion and dust. It offers no promises but this: you are not alone. You were never alone. You belong—not in spite of your wounds, but because of them. No one can keep us from carrying God Wherever we go. No one can rob His Name From our heart as we try to relinquish our fears And at last stand — Victorious. We do not have to leave him in the mosque Or church alone at night; We do not have to be jealous of tales of saints Or glorious masts, those intoxicated souls Who can make outrageous love with the Friend. We do not have to be envious of our spirits’ ability Which can sometimes touch God in a dream. Our yearning eyes, our warm-needing bodies, Can all be drenched in contentment And Light. No one anywhere can keep us From carrying the Beloved wherever we go. No one can rob His precious Name From the rhythm of my heart — Steps and breath. HOPE

I HOPE this inspires. In the depths of despair, when the weight of the world seems unbearable, the concept of hope can feel distant…..perhaps like a flickering flame in a storm. Yet, from a spiritual perspective, hope is not just a fleeting emotion; it is a vital force that with courage can transcend our circumstances, a divine gift that connects us to a higher purpose. Hope, in its purest form, is not about wishful thinking or naive optimism. It is rooted in the belief that, despite appearances, there is a greater plan unfolding. In many spiritual traditions, this belief in divine providence, in the existence of a guiding force greater than ourselves, offers comfort during life’s darkest moments. It is the spiritual strength to face the present with courage, knowing that we are held in a love that transcends time, space, and circumstance. The Sacred Balance: Truth, Boundaries, and Love

In a world veiled by illusion and noise……where confusion masquerades as clarity and conflict often drowns out meaning….truth remains a light that awakens the soul. Yet when truth is delivered without care or held without compassion, it can wound more than it heals. For truth to become a vehicle of transformation, it must be carried gently…..contained within spiritual boundaries that shield our inner life, and infused with the harmonizing presence of love. Those who have walked the mystical path through the ages have known that truth is not always a comfort. It can liberate, yes…..but it can also unsettle, dismantle, and expose. When spoken without discernment, truth becomes a blade rather than a balm. This is why boundaries are essential…..not to divide, but to safeguard. They create the sacred space in which truth can be shared with grace and received with openness. They help us stay whole while engaging the world honestly. And then there is love. Love is not an addition to truth, but its essential companion. It is the frequency that softens what truth reveals. With love, boundaries become not fortresses, but sanctuaries. Truth becomes not a force of destruction, but of healing. Without love, truth can become harsh. Without love, boundaries may breed distance or fear. But when love holds both….when truth is offered with compassion and boundaries are drawn with wisdom…..we participate in something divine. We become messengers not only of insight, but of deep, sacred change. In these uncertain times, may we walk with clarity. May we speak with honesty, protect our spirit with care, and above all, move through the world in love. This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes As an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond. To have loved is everything. I loved, once A hummingbird who came every afternoon-the freedom loving male- Who flew by himself to sample the sweets of the garden To sit on a high, leafless branch with his red throat gleaming. And then, he came no more. And I’m still waiting for him, ten years later, To come back, and he will, or he will not. There is a certain commitment That each of us is given, that has to do with another world If there is one. I remember you, hummingbird. I think of you every day Even as I am still here, soaked in color, waiting, year after honey-rich year. KEEP THE FAITH PEOPLE, KEEP THE FAITH. THROUGH THE STAIRWAY OF EXISTENCE

WeAre notIn pursuit of formalitiesOr fake religiousLaws, For through the stairway of existenceWe have come to God’sDoor. We arePeople who need to love, becauseLove is the soul’s life, Love is simply creation’s greatest joy. ThroughThe stairway of existence,O, through the stairway of existence, HaveYou now come,Have we all now come toThe Beloved’s Door What holds significance for me, based on my personal beliefs, is that the journey towards connecting with a higher power is incredibly close, just a fleeting moment away at any given time, a blink of any eye. The path is inherent within each of us, much like the door that leads to this connection, one with what is. The notion of a stairway and a door is, in essence, a construct of our own minds, influenced by our egocentric selves. However, in ultimate reality, we have always been united with whatever lies beyond that door. There is no literal stairway or door; it’s a realization that can emerge in a singular moment, transcending such physical representations, whenever you are ready to do so, to surrender and transcend into the arms of the beloved. HOPE FOR ENLIGHTENMENT

Sometimes, I can hardly bear the suffering in the world. Even though I care for myself amid it all, I find myself in moments like this, where words fail me and the grief feels unbearable. I weep—sometimes outside, but often, like now, it seems trapped inside me, sorrow spilling over nonetheless. The world feels shaken, steeped in a palpable shock. There’s a phrase from Ram Dass that resonates with me: “When we are in our greatest suffering, we are actually closer to our greatest joy.” It highlights a continuum where deep suffering gives way to a love beyond measure, resting at the core of our being—our greatest joy, may we find ourselves there now. This is a time for Hope, as Studs Terkel pointed out—Hope, after all, dies last. To hold onto Hope, we need faith and courage. Let this chant, “Hope for Enlightenment,” fill your heart and soul, every cell, right down to the marrow. Please make time to be with this cry for peace, for everlasting happiness, sit and meditate, contemplate, be ONE with it. LAMENT FOR HUMANITY

I have been to every continent on this planet, many major cities, and sat with so many people in this life of mine, and all I ever heard despite the barriers people had built up around themselves, was the profound desire to know peace, to be loved and to love…….just that. To recognize the unity of what it is to be human beyond all forms of separation and its suffering. To follow that ache and yearning for love to its final conclusion of oneness with all that is, that lay at the heart of every living soul it seems that I ever met, and to follow it in peace, to feel safe and secure, that only love, absolute reality can provide. May we all be at peace…it is after all…..our birthright. SOUL SPARK

While love is undeniably the creative force of the universe, it is woven together with other elements: transformation, consciousness, interconnection, balance and mystery. Together, they form the vast, intricate tapestry of existence, where love is both the thread and the design. All things are interconnected in that seamless web of existence. This oneness points to a universal harmony, where every particle, wave, and being is an expression of a single, unified reality. Nigel Lott teaandzen.org May all love become you. Whistling Swans Do you bow your head when you pray or do you lookup into that blue space?Take your choice, prayers fly from all directions. And don’t worry about what language you use,God no doubt understands them all.Even when the swans are flying north and makingsuch a ruckus of noise, God is surely listeningand understanding.Rumi said,  There is no proof of the soul. But isn’t the return of spring and how itsprings up in our hearts a pretty good hint?Yes, I know, God’s silence never breaks, but isthat really a problem? There are thousands of voices, after all.And furthermore, don’t you imagine (I just suggest it)that the swans know about as much as we do aboutthe whole business? So listen to them and watch them, singing as they fly.Take from it what you can. by Mary Oliver Get full access to Tea and Zen - Threads at teaandzen.substack.com/subscribe In the quiet between heartbeats a whisper calls you home, you are not broken you are becoming.
