Professor James Thompson, Ph.D. is the director of the James A. Garfield Center for Public Leadership. He joined the podcast this week alongside two GCPL students, Luke Mackall '27 and Ben Rainone '27. We discuss GCPL's mission and structure, recent international trip to Switzerland, and the responsibilities of student leaders. --------------------------- The Garfield Center for Public Leadership is accepting applicants for the 25-26 academic year. It's Spring Break and terriers are off for a week, taking in the sun and sleeping in. But is break a blessing or a curse? Adam and Lorna explore the pitfalls of having a week off and the importance of keeping gratitude as busy senior students. 

Reyna Polley '25 and Jasmine Thompson '25 brought their community spirit to this week's episode. In conversation with Lorna and Adam, the duo shared how Americorps's partnership with Hiram College has built a place for students of all backgrounds. With over two hundred students in the past year alone making their way into the office, it was time to invite our Americorp students BACK for a second episode highlighting everything the office offers. From food to hair care, chili & cornbread, and opportunities for students to involve themselves in service, Americorps shines and serves.

Welcome back Terrier family! This week we're talking all about Lorna's 3-week trip to the Galapagos, Adam's interactive 3-week writing course, the official opening of the Secondhand Stand, and what we're looking forward to for our last semester as Hiram Terriers. 🥲

Lorna is joined again by Adam as they gear up for the end of the 12 week and prepare for the next part of the term. In this laid-back bark, the duo discusses the pros/cons of the 12/3 semester and ways students can make the most of this unique part of Hiram's academic calendar. 

Lorna is joined by fellow senior Adam Ellis for the first 'bark' of the season. This more relaxed episode features Lorna and Adam as they reflect on their freshman year and some of the Hiram lessons they have learned. They talk about Lorna's archive work at the library and what they would say to their past selves.

This week Lina and Lorna sat down with one of the newest student organizations, Hiram's Lighthouse. Lighthouse is a student Christian organization focused on student outreach and community building. Tim and Ava share their lessons from turning a casual bible study into the 23-24 Best New Student Organization! For student interested in joining the organization or for tips on how to turn their passion into a successful group, Lighthouse shines as a great example!  Along with their discussion with Lighthouse, Lina and Lorna introduce the amazing MONSTOBER events held across campus.  

Third times the charm! Zack Fox '21 makes his third appearance and hosting debut in this week's episode of Terrier Talks. Zack updates us on his new position as Land Stewardship Manager and the upcoming events the field station is hosting. Zack and Lorna also explore how programming promotes sustainability, which in turn supports more programming. A beautiful (re)cycle! 

In Terrier Talks on the Street fashion, Lina and Lorna sit down with a variety of important figures of the student services on campus. Tune in to hear from faculty of academic, health, financial, and other important departments on campus.

This week, Lina '26 and Lorna '25 sit down with Sean Rubin '27, president of the upcoming student political science organization the Hiram Politics Project. Sean breaks down what local and far-reaching politics can look like to students and how Terriers can get involved on our campus. Also, they explore the upcoming political science and biology study away opportunity, as well as Sean's experience applying to Hiram as an American living abroad.

Lina and Lorna are joined by Meaghan Stafford '24 and Nathan Cooper '27 who talk all about their experience with research, presentations, and all that Sugar Day has to offer. 

Lorna and Lina invite listeners back after a much-needed spring break. This week, they're joined by Black Student Union president Drew Thompson. Drew brings his first-year perspective to the podcast and shares insights to how to be inviting to freshman students. This week, Lorna and Lina sit down with Jared Lapointe and Jasmine Thompson, two of Hiram's AmeriCorps Service Members! AmeriCorps staffs the Student Resource Center and manages the HAPPI Place (Hiram Access Pantry for Personal Items). The AmeriCorps Service Center works to remove nonacademic barriers for students. The Center offers help to students connecting with local and on-campus resources like counseling, emergency funding, transportation and more.
