Palm On The 5
The 5 is a podcast about music where on each episode my guests select five pieces that are in whatever way influencing their musical practice. We listen to each one and discuss why and how they stand out. My guest for episode nine is Palm. Palm is a four piece art rock ensemble formed in upstate New York in 2012. As a completely collaborative effort in every part of the music making process, the quartet has developed a truly characteristic sound recognizable by its constant time signature changes, off kilter guitar timbres and vocal effects. For this episode, guitarist and vocalist Kasra Kurt, guitarist and vocalist Eve Alpert, bassist Gerasimos Livitsanos and drummer Hugo Stanley each selected one piece that best defined their own state of mind musically and creatively at the moment. For the fifth piece, the band selected one song together that collectively stood out. Palm has been touring nearly non stop since the release of their latest album Rock Island earlier this year on Carpark Records. The New York Times called Palm "one of the most ambitious and promising acts in today's art-rock scene." Tracklist: 1. Graeme Miller & Steve Shill - "Woodland Band Far Away" 2. Micachu & The Shapes - "Sea Air" 3. Nuno Canavarro - "Bruma" 4. Neil Young with Crazy Horse - "Everybody's Alone" 5. Voggue - "Dancin' The Night Away" Theme music: "Oo Ah" by Total Heat
