The 5 to 9 Job

Welcome to The 5 to 9 Job—my journal on growth, failure, and figuring life out. I started this show because I felt this deep need to help people like me…People trying. Failing and rebuilding. The idea was to use the hours between 5pm to 9am to grow. Slowly, my vision expanded and I wanted to do it all, to build a platform to raise others, reflect and share my interests and soon I hit a wall. Now It’s back to the basics; fewer better episodes. Each week, I share a few reflections, conversations, and stories from guests so make sure you don’t miss out on any episode.Welcome to my workshop.

Networking can change your life faster than almost anything else. But most people are doing it completely wrong. In this episode of The 5 to 9 Job, we break down what real networking actually looks like — and why it has nothing to do with collecting business cards or sending random cold DMs.Because real networking is about:Building genuine relationshipsGiving before you getCreating mutual valuePlaying the long gameWe unpack The Three Cs of Networking:🔹 Connect – How to reach out in a way that feels human, not transactional🔹 Contribute – Why adding value first sets you apart instantly🔹 Cultivate – How to maintain relationships so they compound over timeI also share a personal story about how reaching out — not to ask for favors, but to learn — created unexpected opportunities for this podcast. And here’s something most people forget:Don’t just network up.Network across.Network down. Some of your most valuable relationships will grow alongside you. This episode will challenge you to:Make one meaningful connection this weekStop waiting until you “need” someoneStart building bridges before opportunity knocksNetworking isn’t about using people. It’s about building something bigger than yourself.— RaymondThe 5 to 9 Job

If Your Kids Can’t Speak to Their Grandparents, We Failed

Have you ever realized you’re friends with someone simply because you speak the same local dialect? It sounds small — but it’s deep.In this episode of The 5 to 9 Job, we talk about culture, language, identity, and something that’s slowly disappearing without us noticing.Because here’s the uncomfortable truth:If we don’t intentionally pass down our culture, our kids might not even be able to speak to their own grandparents. And that’s bigger than vocabulary. It’s about:Wisdom.Proverbs.Family history.Identity.Belonging.We unpack the idea of “gamba no gwo” — a term from Banyankole culture in Uganda that highlights how powerful cultural connection can be. Not from a place of favoritism… but from a place of familiarity and belonging. In this episode, we explore:Why language is more than just communicationHow urbanization and modern education are quietly shifting identityThe danger of losing cultural rootsPractical ways to teach your kids (or relearn yourself) your local languageHow to love your culture without becoming small-mindedThis isn’t about promoting tribalism. It’s about staying rooted — while still being open to the world.Because culture isn’t just traditional dances at weddings. It’s memory. It’s connection. It’s who you are.And if we don’t protect it intentionally… it will fade unintentionally.— RaymondThe 5 to 9 Job

Your 5 to 9 Is More Important Than Your 9 to 5

Most people obsess over their 9-to-5.But the real transformation? It happens in the 5 to 9.In this foundational episode of The 5 to 9 Job, I break down what this concept really means. Not just the trendy “5 to 9 before your 9 to 5” productivity wave — but the entire window between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m.That’s 16 hours.Sixteen hours where:You build. You recover. You reflect. You grow. You design the person you’re becoming. We talk about:Morning warriors vs night owls — and why it doesn’t actually matterThe difference between productivity and intentionalityWhy most people default to scrolling, zoning out, or coastingHow small, consistent effort in your 5 to 9 compounds over timeMy own struggle with discipline, snoozing alarms, and losing momentumWhy this podcast exists — to build something in those hours that’s just for usThis isn’t about hustle culture. It’s about ownership.Because what you do after work… quietly shapes your future.Whether you use your 5 to 9 to:Build a side businessHit the gymLearn a new skillSpend quality time with familyOr simply reset your mindThe key is intention.Your 5 to 9 is your edge. It’s your leverage. It’s your unfair advantage. And if you get serious about it, your whole life can shift.— RaymondThe 5 to 9 Job

This is one of those raw bonus episodes. No tight structure. No polished framework.Just thoughts I’ve been wrestling with lately — about life, discomfort, identity, poverty, AI, and betting on yourself. In this episode of The 5 to 9 Job, we unpack:The idea that everything happens for a reason — even when you don’t understand it yetWhy something as simple as getting organized can quietly transform your momentumHow witnessing real poverty changes your perspective on complaints and gratitudeThe tension between documenting life… and actually living itWhy I’m learning to go on the offensive with discomfort instead of waiting for it to attack my confidenceThe future of AI and digital twins — and what it might mean for identityWhat betting on yourself really looks like (inspired by the Elon Musk model of high-stakes conviction)And the sobering truth that you’re one decision away from ruin — or from a breakthroughThis episode isn’t about giving you clean answers. It’s about thinking deeper.Reflecting harder. And reminding yourself that even when life feels uncertain, you still control your response.Take what resonates.Debate what doesn’t.But keep moving forward.— RaymondThe 5 to 9 Job

How to Build Unshakable Confidence (Even If You’re Shy)

🎙️ What Confidence Really IsConfidence is not noise. It’s not being the loudest person in the room or pretending you know everything.True confidence is quiet. It’s walking into a situation and knowing: “I’ll figure this out.”Just like walking, talking, or riding a bike — confidence is learned.Nobody starts confident.People build it through:ActionRepetitionShowing upFailing and trying againConfidence is a byproduct of action, not belief. You don’t gain confidence by telling yourself affirmations. You gain it by keeping promises to yourself.Every time you:Prepare instead of panicShow up when it’s uncomfortableFollow through on what you said you’d doYou create evidence that says: “I can trust myself.”Raymond shares a personal moment early in his career — struggling with imposter syndrome — and a piece of advice that changed everything:“Confidence isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about trusting that you can figure it out.”That mindset shift moved the focus from perfection to preparation — and confidence followed.Comparison kills confidence.Your progress doesn’t need to match anyone else’s timeline.Celebrate small wins — they stack. As Vusi says: run your own race.Identify one area where you want to feel more confidentChoose one small action you can take this weekSpeak up oncePrepare more intentionallyShow up consistentlyConfidence is built moment by moment.Confidence is a muscle. The more you work it, the stronger it gets.Start where you are.Take action.Trust the process.Save this episode for the days when doubt creeps in.Explore TED Talks on confidence, body language, and mindset — especially talks on how small physical and mental shifts can dramatically change how you show up.🧠 Confidence Is Learned📌 Confidence Comes From Evidence🪞 Imposter Syndrome & a Personal Lesson⚖️ Stop Comparing Your Journey🧪 This Week’s Confidence Exercise🔁 Final Reminder🎥 Recommended Resource

Let Go to Grow: The Episode You Needed Today

In today’s episode, Raymond breaks down one of the most transformative habits you can build: the ability to let go. Whether it’s past mistakes, relationships that drain you, or beliefs that limit your future, holding on keeps you stuck — letting go sets you free. This episode is gentle, honest, and designed to help you finally release what’s weighing you down.Raymond opens the episode by asking the real question:What are you holding onto that’s holding you back? Most of us carry emotional weight without noticing — grudges, mistakes, fear, or an old version of ourselves we’ve already outgrown.Letting go isn’t about pretending the past didn’t happen. It’s about releasing the weight of it so you can move forward. This part of the episode breaks down the difference between running away and actually freeing yourself.Picture a jar full of heavy rocks:resentmentfearself-doubtold identitiesEach rock is something you refuse to release. When the jar is full, you can’t pick up anything new.Every time you let go of one rock, you create space for better things.Holding on feels protective — but it keeps you stuck in old cycles.Letting go requires courage and self-respect.Raymond gives a simple, practical challenge:Identify ONE thing you need to let go ofWrite it downUnderstand why you’re releasing itTake one small action toward peaceWhether it’s a boundary, a conversation, or a mindset shift — the first step is choosing you.Letting go is how you reclaim:your energyyour focusyour futureIt’s not weakness — it’s emotional strength.Calm. 5 to 9 Diary: Burnout, Red Flags & My Inner Villain

Today’s episode is a raw one — a true 5 to 9 Diary entry. Raymond opens up about burnout, recovering from loss, relationship red flags, communication flaws, and the uncomfortable realization that sometimes… he’s the villain in his own story. This isn’t a themed episode. It’s the messy, honest, unfiltered mix of life lessons that don’t fit neatly into categories — but matter just the same.If you’ve ever battled procrastination, held onto resentment, ignored red flags, or tried to grow past your own patterns, this episode will hit home.🔥 Burnout — Why Taking No Break Is the Fastest Road to CollapseHustling without rest is not discipline — it’s self-sabotage.A pause doesn’t slow you down; it prevents a burnout crash.🔥 Recovery & Awareness — What Losing Something Valuable Taught MeLosing his phone didn’t make Raymond bitter — it made him aware.Awareness > paranoia.Growth isn’t loud; sometimes it’s simply choosing not to resent.🔥 The Power of Clear CommunicationArticulation is an underrated superpower in work, relationships, and creativity. The world rewards people who can think clearly and say it clearly.🔥 Relationship Red FlagsEarly red flags become long-term heartbreaks if you ignore them.Love doesn’t fix patterns — honesty does.🔥 The Inner VillainRaymond admits he sometimes distances himself to control relationships. But the same distance that protects you also disconnects you.Growth is noticing the pattern before it ruins something good.🔥 Procrastination & Stress AddictionSome people only perform when desperate — and that’s a dangerous cycle.Consistency beats crisis-mode excellence.🔥 Identity vs. StereotypesEveryone has labels waiting for them. What matters is building an identity from the inside out, not from the judgments thrown at you. It’s relatable. It’s messy. It’s honest. It’s you admitting the things everyone feels but rarely says out loud. This is how you build connection — not by teaching, but by telling the truth. If any part of this episode hit home — burnout, red flags, procrastination, stereotypes, or your own inner villain — let me know. Your Network Is Not Your Net Worth — Unless You Fix This

In this episode, Raymond breaks down one of the biggest traps young professionals fall into: confusing volume with value when it comes to their network, followers, clients, and connections. He dives into the dangerous lie of “network as much as possible,” exposes why being everywhere can actually destroy your brand, and explains the real difference between networking and building a brand that people trust. This episode is a wake-up call for anyone trying to grow professionally, build a social audience, or monetize their skills online. Happy Holidays from The 5 to 9 Job

In this short holiday episode, Raymond shares a personal message about slowing down, being present, and not letting small frustrations steal the joy of Christmas. No productivity hacks. No pressure to “optimize” your break.Just perspective.Raymond opens up about how hard it is to intentionally stop — to do nothing without guilt. This episode is a reminder that rest isn’t laziness; it’s necessary. The holidays aren’t about doing more. They’re about sitting down, listening, smiling, and actually being there with the people around you.Yes — the questions will come.Yes — the noise will be loud.Yes — someone will probably annoy you.But after Christmas, they’ll be gone. And when you stop giving those moments power, they lose it.One of the biggest lessons Raymond learned this year:Many of the things we fixate on negatively… aren’t actually that bad.If we can over-index on the bad, we can also choose to over-index on the good. The foodThe late-night conversationsThe laughterThe break from the cityThe air (especially village air — it hits different)These are the moments that matter.Don’t let small annoyances ruin Christmas.Choose presence. 5 - 9 Diary: How Most People Lose Their Dreams After Work

Most of us finish work exhausted… but what happens after 5 p.m.?You get home, you tell yourself you’ll rest “for a bit,” and suddenly… it’s midnight. Netflix is still asking if you’re alive. TikTok thinks you died. And you realize you just lost four hours of your life. Here’s the truth:👉🏽 What you do after work matters more than what you do at work.In this bonus Diary Episode, I break down what it really means to reclaim your evenings — not in a hustle-porn way, not in a “sleep when you’re dead” way — but in a way that actually builds your life, your identity, and your future.Inside this episode, we get into:Most of us aren’t resting. We’re not working either. We’re just… existing. And those lost hours add up. I show you how planning your evenings with intention changes everything.I share how my own failed business during my 9–5 taught me focus, resilience, and discipline.Your evenings should grow you — not drain you.Forget overnight success. Forget “grinding.”Small consistent wins — waking up 15 minutes earlier, reading 5 pages, learning one skill — compound into real transformation.Books, podcasts, YouTube… we consume so much. But real growth?👉🏽 Comes from action, not information.I break down how to escape the “dopamine of completion” and actually apply what you learn.Your CV stays at your job.Your brand follows you everywhere.I talk about how to build visibility, share your work, and create leverage — even with a full-time job. It’s not glam. It’s sacrifice. Tired days. Late nights. Tough seasons. But it’s worth it — if you understand the cost and commit anyway.Your body is the foundation. You can rebuild a business. You can’t rebuild your health.I talk about sleep, nutrition, workouts, and how to stay sane while juggling your ambitions. And somewhere in all this, I give a life update:We just hit 1,000 downloads (wild).I took a break from the podcast.I almost stopped completely. But the calling came back… and now I’ve found a way to balance real estate content with audio-only podcasting. It all ties into one lesson:👉🏽 Sometimes you must sacrifice something to get what you want. And if it’s truly meant for you, it will call you back.Your evenings are your untapped resource. They can shape your future.Don’t waste them scrolling.Use them to build.Create.Grow.Become.This is your 5 to 9.This is your second life.My name is Raymond…Welcome to my 5 to 9 Diary.⭐ 1. How to be there for people without losing yourself

I’ve always been a giver—emotionally, financially, mentally. I love being there for people I care about. But at one point in my life, it started draining me. So I did what the internet tells you to do: “Protect your energy.”But I went too far.Way too far.In this raw, honest episode, I open up about how setting boundaries turned into emotional avoidance. I cut off people who cared about me. I shut down from friends and family. I mistook coldness for healing. And in the process, I hurt people—not because they were toxic, but because I was overwhelmed. If you’ve ever struggled with giving too much… or protecting your peace a little too aggressively… this episode is for you.

Why I Almost Quit This Podcast… And Why I’m Still Here

I wanted to stop this podcast. Not in a dramatic way.Not because things were falling apart.Just… quietly.I planned to pause for a long time — maybe months — but somehow I only took a few weeks off, and today, I found myself recording again. And that made me ask myself:👉🏽 Why am I still here? Why does this podcast keep pulling me back? The truth is, I don’t think I “love” podcasting the way other creators do.But I do get something from it — something that keeps me hooked in ways I’m only starting to understand. In this raw diary episode, I talk about:I realized something uncomfortable:I enjoy some parts of this job… and I absolutely dislike others. Those parts I dislike drain me, and they’re the reason I lose momentum, disappear for weeks, and then return again.I noticed something I couldn’t ignore anymore:👉🏽 I’m not growing. Not my speaking. Not my storytelling. Not my delivery.Even my company communications suffered — I was rambling even with bullet points. This podcast is supposed to help me grow, and I wasn’t using it fully.I don’t think I’m going to be “the biggest podcast in Uganda or Africa” anymore. That dream doesn’t feel like mine right now.But the mission?Raising people.Becoming better.Learning out loud.Sharing value.Helping someone else grow while I grow too.👉🏽 That still matters to me.Deeply.There’s something in this podcast for my personal development — speaking, writing, thinking, discipline, clarity. If I don’t use this platform, I know I will regret it.So this time…I’m not trying to blow up.I’m not trying to dominate charts.I’m just trying to extract the value this platform has for me — and give you value in return. If you’ve been listening…Thank you.Truly.It means more than you know.If this episode helps you, or if you have feedback, ideas, or even one simple suggestion that can make this podcast better — please let me know. We’re building this version together.Raymond out.

How To Play The Long Game — Patience in a Fast World

We live in a world obsessed with quick wins—overnight fame, fast money, instant success. And honestly? It’s not even our fault. The world has changed. Success is everywhere—more billionaires, more creators, more people “making it” than ever before. But here’s the trap: when you see success everywhere, it makes patience feel like weakness. The truth? Patience is one of the hardest skills to master.I struggle with it every day. I want things to be easy. I want success now. I want the lifestyle that shows I’ve “made it.”But life doesn’t work like that. The long game teaches resilience. It teaches focus. It forces you to keep showing up even when the results aren’t visible yet.Mark Manson wrote something I like in The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck*: “Choose struggles that are meaningful, not easy.”Because when the struggle means something to you, it’s easier to endure. That’s what the long game is about—enduring the grind because you care about what’s on the other side. It’s not about waiting. It’s about working consistently, trusting the process, and letting every small step add up over time.So here’s my challenge to you:👉 What’s one goal you’re willing to commit to for the long haul? Drop it in the comments.Remember—success doesn’t come fast. It comes to those who stay the course.

ABOUT THIS SHOW
