Gospel of John 4: From Brokenness to Boldness
Send us Fan MailIn this episode of the Abide Podcast, we continue our journey through John 4:39–45 and witness the powerful aftermath of Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman. What began as a deeply personal moment at the well becomes a ripple of transformation that reaches an entire community. We explore how this woman—once marked by shame and known for her past—becomes a bold witness, inviting others to “come and see” the One who knew everything about her and loved her still. Her story reminds us that our brokenness is not a barrier to God, but often the very place where His grace is most clearly revealed. This episode also highlights the beauty and power of testimony—both our personal story of what God has done and the life-changing truth of His Word. While her testimony opened the door, it was ultimately the words of Jesus that led many to believe for themselves.Through Scripture, reflection, and gentle invitation, you’ll be encouraged to release shame, embrace the redemptive work of Christ in your own life, and step forward in faith to share your story.Because the same love that transformed her life… is still transforming lives today.Enjoy! If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! The Gospel of John 2: A Love That Disrupts
Send us Fan MailIn this episode of the Abide Podcast, Gretchen reflects on the dramatic moment in Gospel of John 2:13–25 when Jesus enters the temple during Passover and overturns the tables of the money changers. What appears at first to be anger is actually a powerful expression of His love—zeal for His Father’s house and a desire to restore true worship.Together we explore what this moment reveals about the heart of Jesus and how His love sometimes confronts and cleanses what stands between us and God. As you listen, consider a few questions for your own heart: Has anything crowded out space for God in my life? Has worship become routine rather than relational? Are there “tables” Jesus may be gently overturning in me today? This is the kind of love that refuses to leave us unchanged—a love that clears away what blocks our relationship with the Father and truly changes everything. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Building A House of Faith
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Nerd In The Word.I’m Gretchen, and I am here again with my favorite co-nerd — my friend Kristin — as we step into the final episode of our Building a House of Faith series. We have spent the last several weeks laying spiritual lumber, digging deep into Scripture, and watching the framework of a life in Christ take shape piece by piece. And today… we place the final beam and raise the roof.We began this journey with the Foundation — Jesus Christ, the rock beneath our feet.We framed the house with God’s Word, strong and true.We set the Beams of Faith, trusting what we cannot see.We walked through the Doorway of Grace, into new life and redemption. We breathed in the Atmosphere of Faith, watching how belief permeates every room of the heart. And now, in this last pillar, we lift our eyes upward to the Covering of Hope and Perseverance — the roof that shelters every part of the house beneath it.Because a house can only stand if it is covered —covered by hope, covered by God’s promises, covered by the One who holds tomorrow. In this episode we’re going to open Hebrews 10 and Hebrews 12, nerd out on the Greek words elpis and hypomonē, and talk about how hope anchors us and perseverance strengthens us. We’ll look honestly at storms, at waiting seasons, at the long obedience of following Jesus — and how the God who calls us is faithful to finish what He began. So grab your Bible, your journal, your coffee or tea —and come spend one more episode building with us.Let’s raise the covering together, and step into the hope that shelters our House of Faith. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Building A House of Faith
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to the Nerd In The Word podcast!I’m Gretchen, and I’m here again with my fellow Scripture-nerd and dear friend, Kristin, as we continue building our “house of faith” in this series. So far, we’ve looked at the foundation, the framework, the beams, and the doorway…and today we step into one of my favorite metaphors yet:The Atmosphere of Faith.Every home has a “feel”—a presence, a tone, an atmosphere. And in the life of a believer, that atmosphere is shaped by faith. Faith isn’t just a pillar we stand on; it’s the way we breathe, move, relate, rest, and grow in Christ. Faith infuses every room of our spiritual house. In this episode, we’re walking through four rooms—four spaces of the heart—where God wants to cultivate a living, breathing atmosphere of faith:• The Living Room — Fellowship (koinōnia)A place of connection, community, and belonging. We’ll nerd out on the Greek word koinōnia, explore Acts 2:42, and talk about how faith flourishes in shared life.• The Kitchen — Nourishment (Jesus the Bread / rhema Word)Where we are fed, strengthened, and sustained. We’ll look at John 6, Matthew 4:4, and how the rhema (spoken, timely) Word nourishes our daily walk.• The Bedroom — Rest and PeaceA space of safety, intimacy, and restoration.Psalm 4:8, Matthew 11:28–30, and Hebrews 4 will guide our conversation about faith that lets us breathe and be still.• The Basement — Storage, Brokenness, and Hidden PlacesThe room we’d rather keep closed off.But faith invites Jesus even here—into the old, heavy, forgotten things. We’ll visit Psalm 51, Romans 8:1, and the transforming work of the Spirit in our depths.Through Scripture, stories, questions, and a bit of Greek word-nerding, we’ll explore how faith is more than belief—it’s an atmosphere God is cultivating within us. A climate of trust. A pattern of breathing. A way of inhabiting the life He has built. So grab your Bible, your journal, maybe a cozy blanket—and let’s walk through the house, room by room, and discover how God fills each space with the life-giving atmosphere of faith. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Building a House of Faith
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Nerd in the Word! I’m Gretchen, and I’m here again with my good friend and fellow nerd, Kristin.Today we’re stepping into our fourth pillar of faith in our Blueprints of Grace series — The Doorway of Grace. If you’ve been following along, we’ve been building a spiritual house: Christ is the cornerstone, God’s Word frames our life, and faith stands as the beams that hold us steady. But now, we reach the doorway — the point where we enter in.Grace is that doorway. It’s the threshold between the old life we once lived and the new life we’ve been invited into through Jesus Christ. It’s where mercy meets transformation. Titus 3:3–7 paints this picture beautifully:“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray... But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit...”Grace is what opens the door. Christ is the One who holds it wide. And by faith, we step through — leaving behind who we were, to become who we’re meant to be in Him.So grab your Bible and your builder’s mindset — it’s time to explore the doorway of grace and what it really means to walk through it.If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Building A House of Faith
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Nerd in the Word! We’re so glad you’re here with us for Week 3 of our series, Building a House of Faith. Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve talked about laying the foundation and framing the structure of our faith—and today, we’re turning our attention to the roof beams: faith itself.I’m once again joined by my fellow nerd in the Word and good friend, Kristin. Together, we’re diving into what it really means to live by faith—to trust God with confidence even when we can’t see what He’s doing. In Hebrews 11, we’re reminded that faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen. Faith is what covers our hearts with confidence in God’s promises, protects us from the storms of doubt and fear, and completes the structure of our lives as we learn to rest in God’s faithfulness. This conversation is all about learning to walk by faith, not by sight—trusting the Master Builder who holds it all together. So grab your Bible and your inner Bible nerd, and let’s dive in to discover the strength and beauty of the roof beams of faith. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Building a House of Faith
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Nerd in the Word! We’re so glad you’re here for week two of our series, Building a House of Faith. Last week, we laid the foundation—looking at what it means to build our lives on Christ alone. And this week, we’re moving to the next part of the build: the framework.Every strong house needs structure—something that gives it shape, boundaries, and strength. The same is true in our spiritual lives. God’s Word is that framework. It’s the bedrock of knowledge that shapes what we believe, how we think, and the way we live in relationship with Him. Scripture isn’t just a set of rules or stories—it’s the divine blueprint that gives form and purpose to our faith.Without it, our lives lose shape. But when we allow the Word of God to guide and ground us, our faith becomes steady, aligned, and ready to stand through whatever storms may come.So grab your Bible, your notebook, and your inner Bible nerd—and let’s dive in to discover how God’s Word gives framework to a life built on faith.Enjoy! If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Special Guest
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Nerd in the Word! I’m so glad you’re joining us for today’s episode, because it’s a very special one. Not only are we continuing to explore the richness of God’s Word, but I’m joined by a dear friend and fellow nerd in the Word.Though she’s younger than I am, her walk with the Lord has been such an encouragement to me personally. She has learned, often through some very real challenges, what it means to lean into God at just the right moments—moments that could have left her discouraged or defeated. Instead, she chose to turn toward Him, and what she discovered is that God is always faithful to meet us right where we are.Her story is marked by joy that shines even in the midst of sorrow, by a growing confidence in her identity in Christ, and by a deepening awareness of God’s love and grace. And what I love most is that her journey isn’t polished or perfect—it’s honest, it’s real, and it’s a beautiful testimony of what it looks like to abide in Jesus day by day.So today, as we share this conversation, I invite you to listen with an open heart. My hope is that her words will encourage you to lean into God in your own story, to discover His faithfulness in fresh ways, and to remember that His love is deeper and stronger than anything we face.Enjoy ~If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Building a House of Faith
Send us Fan Mail“Welcome back to Nerd in the Word! We’re kicking off a brand-new 6-week series called Building a House of Faith.Throughout Scripture, faith is often pictured like a building or a home. Jesus told us in Matthew 7 that the wise person builds their house on the rock. Paul calls Christ the cornerstone of our lives. And Peter reminds us that together, we’re living stones being built into a spiritual house. So for the next six weeks, we’re going to lay down the building blocks of a strong and lasting faith in Christ. Each week we’ll add another part of the house — from the cornerstone, to the framework, to the beams, the doorway, the atmosphere, and even the roof. By the end, we’ll see how all these pieces fit together to make a house of faith that can weather any storm. And since this is Nerd in the Word, you know we’ll be geeking out over some Greek and Hebrew words, pulling in supporting Scriptures, and even hearing from scholars who’ve wrestled deeply with these truths. But more than information, our hope is that this series shapes transformation — that you’ll not only learn about the building blocks of faith, but actually live in them, making your life a dwelling place for the presence of God.So let’s grab our tools, unroll the blueprint, and get ready to start with the very first piece — the cornerstone, Christ Himself.”As always, I would love to hear how the podcast is encouraging you and helping to grow your faith in Christ. Especially, I would love to hear from you if you come to receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior! Wow, what a joyful moment for you and I would love to celebrate and pray with you!Again, enjoy Gretchen If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Lord's Prayer (v13)
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Nerd in the Word! Today we’ve reached the final verse in our series on the Lord’s Prayer—“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”This whole journey through the Lord’s Prayer has been rich and transformative for our own prayer lives, and we pray it’s been the same for you. And what a powerful way to end—with a reminder that every single day, we are in desperate need of God’s strength and deliverance. The truth is, we will never be strong enough, wise enough, or disciplined enough to resist sin in our own power. The pull of temptation is real, and our enemy is relentless. As James 1:13 reminds us, “God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.” But Scripture is clear—temptation will come. Paul warns in 1 Timothy 6:9 that “those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare… that plunges people into ruin and destruction.” And Peter paints the picture vividly: “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).But here’s the hope—we are not left defenseless. 1 John 4:4 tells us, “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” And 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us that “God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”So, this episode is really a call—a call to run to God. To cry out for His strength when we feel the lure of sin. To cling to the One who delivers us from evil. Because only God can.If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Lord's Prayer (v12)
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to another episode of Nerd in the Word! I’m so glad you’re here. Today, we’re diving into one of the most personal and powerful parts of the Lord’s Prayer — verse 12: ‘Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.’Forgiveness is one of those words that we all know, but when we sit with it, it gets real pretty fast. Nerd In The Word: Lord's Prayer (v11)
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Nerd in the Word! I’m Gretchen, here with my fellow Bible nerd and dear friend Kristin—and today we’re tackling a short verse that packs a surprising punch:Matthew 6:11 – “Give us this day our daily bread.”Now, on the surface, it sounds simple. A basic prayer for food, right? But as we dug into it, we quickly realized—this verse is about way more than carbs. It’s about dependence. It’s about trust. It’s about asking God to meet us right where we are—today—without trying to jump ahead to tomorrow. In this episode, we explore how this part of the Lord’s Prayer invites us into a rhythm of receiving, rather than striving… and how daily bread isn’t just something for our stomachs, but for our souls. So if you're feeling weary, hungry for more of God, or just curious about what this little verse really means—grab your Bible and join us.Let’s learn together, laugh a little, and (of course) nerd out in the Word.If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Lord's Prayer (v10)
Send us Fan MailWelcome to another episode of Nerd in the Word—where two Bible-loving friends (yes, self-proclaimed nerds!) crack open Scripture not just to study it, but to savor it. I’m Gretchen, and joining me is my fellow Bible nerd and dear friend Kristin, and today we’re geeking out over one incredibly powerful verse: Matthew 6:10—“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”Now, let’s be honest. This is one of those verses we’ve probably said a thousand times—but how often have we stopped to really ask… What are we actually praying here?Is it a passive hope for God to show up, or is it a bold invitation for heaven to break in? And what does it look like when we surrender our will for His—even when it’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, or just plain hard?In today’s conversation, we laugh a little (because, well… we’re us), wrestle with big truths, and marvel at the kind of King we’re praying to.So if you’ve ever prayed the Lord’s Prayer on autopilot, or if you’re curious about how this one line can radically shape your faith and daily life—grab your Bible, maybe a pen, and come nerd out with us.We’re learning. We’re growing. Nerd In The Word: The Lord's Prayer (verse 9)
Send us Fan MailIn this episode of the Nerd in the Word series on the Lord’s Prayer, we slow down and sit with just one verse—Matthew 6:9—a line so familiar that it can be easy to recite but hard to truly absorb:“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”What does it really mean to call God “Our Father”?This is more than a title—it’s an identity-shaping truth. Jesus invites us to approach the Creator of the universe not with fear or formality, but with childlike trust. In calling Him “Abba, Father,” we’re reminded of the closeness, care, and covenant love that define our relationship with Him. Yet, in the same breath, we are grounded by the words “in heaven”—a reminder of God's transcendence, sovereignty, and holiness. We also unpack what it means to hallow God’s name. This ancient word isn’t just about reverence in language; it’s about living in a way that honors who God is. To hallow His name means to set it apart as sacred, to elevate it in our hearts, our homes, and our habits. It’s a call to worship—not only with our lips, but with our lives.Throughout this conversation, we reflect on how Jesus begins the model prayer not with personal requests, but with deep relational grounding and divine adoration. This verse lays the foundation for all that follows—shaping the posture of our hearts before we ever utter a need.Reflection Questions to Take With You:When you pray “Our Father,” what kind of father do you picture God to be?How have your past experiences shaped your ability—or struggle—to trust Him as Abba? What would it look like to “hallow” God’s name in your everyday life? Are there places where you may be casually carrying His name, rather than honoring it as holy?If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: The Lord's Prayer
Send us Fan MailIn this Nerd in the Word series, we’re slowing down and digging deep into one of the most beloved and powerful passages in all of Scripture—The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13). Verse by verse, my fellow Bible nerd and I will explore the meaning, context, and heart behind each line of this prayer Jesus gave His disciples.More than just a script to recite, this prayer is a model for how we, as followers of Christ, are invited to approach our heavenly Father—with reverence, surrender, trust, and dependence. From honoring God’s name to asking for daily bread and deliverance from evil, each part of this prayer points us to a life anchored in relationship with God.Whether you’ve memorized this prayer as a child or are hearing it with fresh ears, join us as we uncover the layers of truth, theology, and grace packed into these few powerful verses.Grab your Bible—and maybe a notebook—and nerd out with us as we learn to pray (and live) the way Jesus taught. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Final Shema episode - You Shall...
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to the Abide Podcast. I’m Gretchen Stevenson, and I’m so glad you’re here. Today, we’re diving into one of the most treasured passages in all of Scripture — the Shema from Deuteronomy 6 — with a focus on verses 7 through 9. These verses invite us into something deeply personal and profoundly communal: a life where our love for God shapes every moment, every conversation, and every generation. This is more than a command — it’s a call to relationship, to covenant loyalty, and to passing on the beauty of God’s truth in the everyday rhythms of life. Whether you’re teaching little ones, walking through a season of transition, or simply longing to draw closer to Jesus, this episode is for you.My prayer is that the Shema would become more than words we read — that it would become a way of life. May your love for the Lord be written on your heart, spoken in your home, and seen in your everyday walk.If this episode encouraged you, I’d love for you to share it with a friend or leave a review. Nerd In The Word: Meod (Muchness)
Send us Fan MailWelcome back to the Abide podcast! I’m your host, Gretchen Stevenson, and I’m joined once again by my fellow word-loving friend Kristin for our Nerd in the Word mini-series on the Shema—that beautiful, foundational declaration of faith found in Deuteronomy 6.In our last episode, we explored what it means to love the Lord with all your heart (lev) and all your soul (nephesh)—not just with our emotions or spiritual selves, but with the whole of who we are—our thoughts, desires, intentions, breath, and being.Today, we’re going to lean into the final word in that trio:“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.”But here’s the twist—“might” in Hebrew is the word me’od (מְאֹד), and it doesn’t mean strength in the way we often think of muscles or power. It actually means muchness—as in: to love God with everything you’ve got. Your energy, your influence, your resources, your capacity, your abundance. This is about living a life of overflow—loving God with every bit of your more. So, whether you’re listening on your morning walk or curled up with your Bible and coffee, we’re inviting you to pause and consider:What does it look like to love God with your muchness? If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Nerd In The Word: Levav (Heart) & Nephesh (Soul)
Send us Fan MailWelcome to the Abide podcast. I’m your host, Gretchen Stevenson—and today, I’ve invited my fellow Bible-loving friend and resident word-nerd, Kristin, to join me for a special two-part Nerd in the Word conversation. We’re diving deep into one of the most foundational passages in all of Scripture—the Shema—found in Deuteronomy 6. It begins with this powerful call:“Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.”These words weren’t just meant to be memorized—they were meant to shape the whole of life. They were spoken, repeated, written on doorposts and gates, and passed down from generation to generation. And today, we’re going to nerd out together about what it actually means to love God with all our heart and all our soul. We’ll be unpacking two rich Hebrew words: lev (heart) and nephesh (soul). In the Hebrew mindset, these words have meanings that go way beyond our modern understanding.Loving God with all our heart and soul is not just about emotion or intellect—it’s about the wholeness of who we are: our thoughts, our motives, our breath, our being. So grab your Bible, maybe a notebook, and let’s get nerdy about what it means to love the Lord our God with everything we’ve got.If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! I’m your host, Gretchen Stevenson, and today, my good friend and I are continuing our journey through the Shema, one of the most powerful declarations of faith in Scripture. This week, we’re unpacking the word “love” as it appears in Deuteronomy 6:5: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”But what does love really mean in this context? In our modern world, love is often seen as a feeling or emotion, but the Hebrew word used here “ahavah” carries a much deeper, covenantal meaning. It speaks of commitment, loyalty, and an all-encompassing devotion.Join us as we nerd out on the Hebrew roots, explore how this word is used throughout Scripture, and discover how this ancient call to love God impacts how we live and relate to Him today. Today, my good friend and I are continuing our study through the Shema, one of the most foundational verses in Scripture. This week, we’re taking a deep dive into the Hebrew name YHWH, the covenant name of God that appears right at the start of Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”From the burning bush encounter with Moses to the poetic prayers of the Psalms, this name reveals God’s eternal presence, faithfulness, and unchanging character. And how does understanding this name invite us into a deeper relationship with Him?Join us as we nerd out on the Hebrew roots, explore where YHWH appears throughout Scripture, and uncover the profound truths behind this holy name. Nerd In The Word, Part 1 - Shema
Send us Fan MailWelcome to Nerd In The Word, where we dive deep into the Scriptures with enthusiasm and curiosity! I’m here with my good friend Kristin, and today we’re kicking off the first part of a series on the Shema, a foundational passage in Deuteronomy 6. Now, when you hear the word "hear," you might think it’s just about listening. But in the original Hebrew, the word Shema is packed with so much more meaning—it's about actively engaging, understanding, and responding. In today’s episode, we’re going to explore the depth of this powerful word and its call not just to hear, but to hear with intention—a concept that has profound implications for how we live out our faith. So, grab your Bible, get ready to dive in, and let’s nerd out together! If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by my ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Gretchen https://gretchenstevenson.com/Questions to consider:1. What does it look like in your daily life to truly "hear" God's voice with a heart that is ready to respond?2. How does understanding obedience as a response to God's covenant love, rather than "rule following" change your perspective on following His Commands & teachings in Scripture?3. Jesus said, "If you follow me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15). How does this connect with the Shema?4. What practical steps can you take this week to cultivate a more intentional practice of listening to God through His Word and responding with action?Thank you for listening to the Abide Podcast with Gretchen Stevenson. Christmas Devotion: A Humble Song of Praise
Send us Fan MailWelcome to the Abide podcast. As we approach Christmas, our hearts naturally turn to the story of Jesus—the child born in Bethlehem, the Savior who came to dwell among us. Advent is a time to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts for the gift of Emmanuel—God with us.In today’s episode, I want to invite you into something deeply personal and sacred: a love letter from God. These are not just words on a page but a reminder of the Creator’s tender affection for you. It’s a letter that speaks to the depth of His love, His purposes for your life, and His desire to use every part of your story—the good, the hard, and the broken—to tell of His glory. As we reflect on Mary's story and her surrender to God’s greater plan, I hope you’ll see your own story in a new light. Christmas Devotion: Hope For All Humanity
Send us Fan MailWelcome to the Abide podcast, where we pause in the busyness of life to reflect on the life-giving truth of God’s Word. As we begin this Advent season, our hearts are drawn to a powerful theme: Hope.Christmas is often celebrated with joy and wonder, but for many, this season can also stir deep longing—a longing for peace, restoration, and the assurance that God has not forgotten us. Advent invites us to lean into this longing and rediscover the promise of hope fulfilled in Jesus Christ.Today, we’ll journey back to that starlit night in Bethlehem, where shepherds heard the extraordinary news of a Savior born for all people. Together, we’ll unpack what it means to anchor our lives in the living hope of Christ—hope that doesn’t waver, even in our waiting.Whether you’re filled with anticipation or wrestling with doubt, my prayer is that this episode will encourage your heart that God’s promises are true and His love is unwavering. Hope has come, and His name is Emmanuel—God with us.Pause & reflect:1. Have you ever felt like God has forgotten you? Take a moment to reflect on His promise to work all things together for your good and His glory. How does this truth bring comfort to your heart today?2. Hope is the confident assurance of what is yet to come, rooted in God’s unchanging promises. Are you struggling to find hope right now? What is one burden you can lay at His feet, trusting Him to carry it as you rest in His eternal goodness and faithfulness?3. Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Savior and Lord? If not, are you ready to surrender your life to Him, exchanging your doubts and fears for a new life filled with unshakable hope, lasting joy, and perfect peace? If so, take a moment to pray and invite Him into your heart as your living hope.4. If you already know the life-transforming hope of Jesus Christ, who in your life might need to hear about this indescribable gift? This Christmas season, ask God to show you someone you can share the hope and joy found in Christ. My friend, if you prayed to receive Christ as your personal Savior and Lord, celebrate. Tell someone that you have just been given the best Christmas gift of all—the gift of Jesus! Fruit of Kindness
Send us Fan MailWelcome to the Abide podcast, where we explore how the Gospel shapes every part of our lives. Today, we’re diving into the beautiful fruit of kindness—one of the most tangible ways we reflect Christ’s love to others. Kindness isn’t just an option for believers; it’s a calling that flows from our connection with Jesus. Together, we’ll look at what it means to “clothe ourselves” in kindness, how it changes our hearts, and how even the smallest acts can bring hope and healing to a world in need. May this episode inspire you to embrace kindness as a reflection of God’s heart.Pause and consider:How do you express kindness towards yourself? Are there areas in your life where you might need to extend the same grace to yourself that God so freely extended to you? What might those areas be?In what areas of your life do you find it most challenging to extend kindness to others? Ask yourself why, then spend time abiding with Jesus, asking Him to change the attitude of your heart.Take time to reflect on your story and how God's kindness has changed your life. Look for opportunities to tell others about Jesus's kindness; you never know how your encouragement could change the life of another. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by our ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Devotion: Love
Send us Fan MailIs love a fruit, a person, a divine attribute, or God?"The answer is a resounding YES! Yes, love is at the heart of everything God is and calls us to be. In this episode, we’re diving deep into a four-part look at how love, as a fruit of the Spirit, is the core from which all other fruit gains nourishment. Love is God’s very essence—His character, His presence, His everything summed up in one powerful word. While it’s impossible to capture the fullness of God’s love in one devotion, we can begin to explore its depths through four unique aspects. We’ll use L.O.V.E. as our guide, each letter revealing more of who God is and why love is the ultimate fruit we’re invited to grow within and give generously to others. So, let’s settle in and discover why love truly is the quintessential fruit of a life rooted in the Spirit."Pause & reflect:How do you express love in a way that reflects the Spirit of God who has nurtured it within you? Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” Is there someone you know and love who is living in darkness? How can you shine the light of Christ that is in you to help guide them out of darkness and into the glorious light and love of Jesus?Spend time with Emmanuel. Respond to whatever the Light has revealed and offer up a prayer of repentance and thanksgiving. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by our ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Devotion: Goodness
Send us Fan MailIn this devotional episode of the Abide podcast, we reflect on the transformative work of God as our Divine Gardener. John 15:1 reminds us that God lovingly prunes the branches of our lives so that we can bear the spiritual fruit that glorifies Him—love, joy, peace, and, most beautifully, goodness. But this transformation only happens through the work of the Holy Spirit. As we surrender to His leading, allowing Him to prune and shape us, we begin to bear the fruit of His power within us. It’s in our surrender that goodness blooms and God is most glorified. We’ll also meditate on the contrast between the fruit of the Spirit and the fruit of sin—how envy, hatred, and idolatry rob us of God's blessings. Join me in this time of devotion as we seek to grow in surrender and invite the Holy Spirit to cultivate a life that reflects the goodness of God and brings Him glory. If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by our ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Posture of Redemption
Send us Fan MailWelcome to this special episode of the Abide podcast, where we explore the power of redemption through the love of Christ. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and today we’re highlighting an incredible ministry called The Dwelling Place, a Christian organization that offers refuge and protection for women and children who have fled from the horrors of domestic violence. Our conversation today is not only about the heartbreaking reality of abuse but more importantly about the redemptive love of God that these brave women experience as they rebuild their lives. We’ll hear about how God's grace is at work in The Dwelling Place, transforming pain into healing, and restoring hope where there was once despair.Joining me is a guest who will also share her deeply personal story of redemption—how God renewed her heart and spiritual journey after she believed she had missed out on her calling in ministry. Her testimony is a beautiful reminder that God's plans for us are never over, and His redemptive work is ongoing, even when we feel we've missed the opportunity.I invite you to listen in and be inspired by these stories of grace, healing, and the unfailing love of Christ, who redeems all things for His glory. The National Domestic Violence Hotline number is 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). Meditation: God Is Omnipotent
Send us Fan MailWe live in a culture where time and productivity are of the highest value. Rarely is being still, pausing for times of reflection or meditation encouraged. For that reason, we place ourselves at risk of fatigue, stress, and misguided perspective. In today's episode of the Abide podcast, we will quiet our busy minds and meditate on one of the most awe-inspiring attributes of God - His omnipotence. The word omnipotence speaks to the all-powerful nature of God- there's nothing He cannot do. As you listen, try to open your heart to the fullness of what each verse is saying. With each passage let yourself collapse into the arms of the all-powerful One who created you and sustains you. He is God. Almighty and powerful. Soak in these truths and be renewed by His Spirit - He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together! Posture of Forgiveness
Send us Fan MailIn today’s episode, we’re diving deep into the transformative power of forgiveness— a gift that, as followers of Christ, we are called to embrace not just occasionally, but as a permanent posture of the heart. I’m sitting down with a dear friend to talk about what it truly means to forgive with the same readiness and grace that Jesus extends to us. We’ll explore how Scripture calls us to release anger, bitterness, and resentment, and instead, incline our hearts toward mercy, grace, and reconciliation. This conversation is all about the freedom and healing that comes when we choose forgiveness, even when it’s hard. Key Scripture:Romans 8:1; 1 John 1:9; Ephesians 1; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 1:12; Colossians 3:13; Ephesians 4:32; Romans 12:19; Psalm 103:2If you would like to support this ABIDE podcast and the other resources provided by our ministry, please consider donating at https://gretchenstevenson.com/donate/ Thank You! Devotion: Gentleness
Send us Fan MailIn this episode of the ABIDE podcast, we take a deep dive into the often-overlooked fruit of the Spirit: gentleness. Through the lens of Scripture and vivid examples from creation, we’ll reflect on how God calls us to live with a gentle heart that mirrors Jesus's character. Just as the Grand Canyon was shaped by the slow, persistent flow of water, our hearts are shaped by the quiet strength of gentleness. We'll discuss how our words and actions can either wound or heal, and how true gentleness is not a sign of weakness, but of Christ’s power working through us. Whether you're navigating difficult relationships or simply seeking to grow closer to God, this episode will encourage you to embrace the transformative beauty of a gentle spirit. Tune in and discover how the gentle love of Christ can shape you—and those around you—for good. Just as the forces of nature shape mountains and valleys, our lives, too, are molded by the words spoken to us. Harsh words, whether spoken over time or in the heat of an argument, have the power to cut deep into our hearts. These wounds, though often hidden, can leave scars that quietly shape us for years, influencing the way we see ourselves and the world around us. But unlike nature’s slow erosion, we’re not left defenseless, God's Word gives us the wisdom for today and how to live differently.Pause and consider:1. Consider a specific relationship or situation where you struggle to show gentleness. Spend time in the company of Jesus and ask Him to help you cultivate a more gentle and compassionate heart.2. Proverbs 16:24 says, Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Who in your life needs to experience the gentleness of Christ through your words or actions?3. Consider the company you keep. Do they promote a spirit of gentleness in you, if not, what might need to change? Have you ever felt like you’re lacking, like something is missing in your life, or that you’re not enough? I’ve been there too, and it’s in these moments that God’s sufficiency becomes so beautifully clear. In a world that often tells us we need to strive harder, be more, and do more, the Gospel reminds us that Christ is enough. He is our source of strength, provision, and peace. Today, we’ll explore how we can rest in His sufficiency, trusting that in Him, we lack nothing. Join me as we reflect on this life-giving truth and learn how to embrace it in our daily walk with Him.Reflection questions:1. Think about a part of your life where you feel weak, inadequate, or lacking. How might you open your heart more fully to God's power, trusting Him to meet your needs and be more than enough for you?2.
