Episode 42 - Klashing Kultures
This past weekend was pretty intense! (I'll have a whole different post about Kulture Klash 8.) This passed week on the show I decided to kind of do a good handful of different types of music. Closer to the end of the set, you'll hear that I really start going all over the place. I also threw in a Valique edit of Genesis's "I Can't Dance." Definitely not something you'll ever hear me play out. I just wanted to throw it in since I won't ever have the opportunity to play that track in front of a crowd. (Not that I really would either. I've got so many others to choose from.) Anyway, I hope you all had the opportunity to make it to Kulture Klash 8. If you didn't, you really missed out on a great time! Stay tuned for the next episode! Episode 41 - What's In The Box
In this episode of the Adventures of Commander Cool Hand. I take a different sort of approach to this week's set. Usually, I have a set kind of pre-planned. I wouldn't say totally planned out. I usually just pick tracks that I've been feeling for the last several weeks and throw them together for a set. Most of the time, this works out pretty well. (At least I think it has.) However, in this episode, I decided to take an unopened box of vinyl that was used during my move to my new home. I kind of had an idea of what was in there but I really didn't know the order or really all the actual pieces of vinyl that were in the box. If I continued to go this route, I could probably do about 20 to 25 shows just from the shear amounts of vinyl that were in that box. (In all honesty, I am sure I could do over 400 shows of straight vinyl and never play the same track twice.) Overall, I feel this was a pretty decent episode. Wasn't my favorite because I just kind of went with the flow and grabbed some pretty questionable pieces and put them into the set. There's some good obscure tracks in there so I hope you all dig it. In other news, Kulture Klash 8 is coming up this weekend and I'm really excited that I'll be dropping a set for it. I don't know how long I will have to play but I am getting to share the stage with my good friends and some great artists. I'm sure I will be tweeting posts and pictures so make sure you are following me for the play by play of that. Episode 40 - Gettin Hitched
I'm finally getting my life back on track, putting mixes back online and posts, er, posted. I got married this passed week and had to spend a lot of time focused on the wedding. Now, I can take a small breather and get back to the funk. As far as this week goes, iMFROMULL made a trip to the U.S. to play a show in San Francisco. I hope the show went well and all my west coast folks treated him well. (Seems they did, I contacted him via twitter and he said it was one of the best shows he's ever played.) Make sure you check out more of his work on his SoundCloud page and listen to his tracks that I have dropped on the show. South Beach Recycling is really starting to show up more and more on the show because I'm really digging his boogie funk that he's chopping up. Look for more of his work being released on the Midnight Riot label. Episode 38 - UHF Party
First off, I need to apologize about the tardiness of posting this episode on the actual blog. (For those that follow the radio feed or who follow me on SoundCloud and Mixcloud you already knew Episode 38 was posted and ready for a listen.) Right now I'm in the process of getting ready for a wedding, my wedding and all my available free time is being devoted to that and other sorts of life activities. It's not that I don't like posting music up. It's just I really have little time for it right this moment. Now that I've got that out of the way, let's move on to the meat and potatoes of this passed week's broadcast! For those of you who were born 1990 on, you probably don't know what the "UHF" dial is. Back before cable television there was a way of getting tv channels via airwaves. This mostly consisted of local area channels. In fact, that's pretty much all there was before there was cable. (However, my memory is pretty bad at this, my family had cable even when I was very young, so there may have been a ton on network channels.) Most of these programs that came on the UHF dial were basic, low budget, and wonderfully not influenced by major corporations. The programs could be about anything really but it mostly was geared to your local area. So where am I going with all this? Well, I'm glad you asked. I was digging around in the back alley's of the internet trying to dig up some old funk and soul albums that I've never heard before. I ran across a forum post that had the phrase "The Chicago Party TV Show" in it. I scratched my head and googled that phrase. I hit gold! Back in 1982, Chicago's WCIU Channel 26 had a local access show called, "The Chicago Party." This whole show can be summed up by watching these five minutes. Trust me... Totally worth your time. This was like a local Chicago version of "Soul Train" that featured leg competitions, and men's chest competitions. I couldn't believe I was seeing commercials for the "Copherbox" nightclub followed by another commercial for the "Screamin' Wheels Roller Rink" million dollar disco! This was just pure gold on YouTube! Anyway, so I dug around some more and began finding tracks that were recorded from the show. I then took some of those tracks and put a few of them on the show. The rest of it is Episode 38, UHF Party! Hope you all dig it!

Episode 37 - Vibe For The Hive
I thought of a great way to lower the turn around time for when The Adventures of Commander Cool Hand is on The Fix to when the archive is posted and ready to run. What do you all think? Less than 12 hours after the show is aired and live the archive is online and ready to stream for everyone's weekend rump shaking. I'd say this is a pretty good improvement. Just had to streamline a few processes. We've got some of the usuals on the show this week. Dr. Packer has already been laying fire down this year! I feel this is going to be a great year for him. You will definitely want to keep up with his reworks as he releases them. Newcomer, The Funk District, just released an EP on Hotbox Boogie that you should add to your collection. During the show, he hit me up on twitter to thank me for dropping his rework of Cameo's "Rigor Mortis." (If you're a fan of the show, you should already know by now that I'm a huge Cameo fan! If you've got an edit, rework, or a recording of Larry Blackmon farting on a snare drum, chances are I'll play it on the show.) So be on the look out for more releases! You know as soon as I get them I'll be playing them. Also, If you're in the Charleston area, you need to get out to The Faculty Lounge tonight where PartyDad and JAZ will be throwing down in their monthly installment of their "OFF/BEAT" rare tracks show. This month they're doing all italo disco, which if you're not familiar with then you need to really take the time to go out there. "Do You Italo?"

What happened to Episode 35?!?! I know that's what you are wondering right now. Truth is, it's backed away on a hard drive that has yet to be unpacked! In case you didn't realize this, The Fix and Kinetic HiFi moved to a new location. The new station locale is amazing. Nice, hardwood floors, spacious studio rooms, pictures of Nixon bowling, and rugs that really help tie the room together. So until everything gets unpacked and we get organized, I'll dig for the recording of episode 35. I figured until then, why wait to upload? Here's episode 36 for you to enjoy. This episode actually had a lot more energy than what I was thinking that it would. I was just really feeling the track selection for the evening. Maybe it was because the new digs. Anyway, this features a lot of new releases from the normal cast of Cool Hand regulars. Hope you all enjoy!

Episode 34 - Night Boogie
Had a little bit of disco sleaze going on with the DJ Duckcomb edit of Bob Gilpin's "Sexy Thing." It's Super Bowl Sunday in the United States right now and I'm about to fire up the grill and cook out so I don't have much time to write and go into a lot of crazy detail about the episode. Anyway, stay tuned because I'm about to drop a mixtape to get everyone in the mood for Valentine's Day.

Episode 33 - Mastersounds
I kind of feel like I phoned this one in. A huge majority of the tracks came from the new "Masterworks Vol. 1" compilation. All the tracks on there were just excellent! Just real top notch re-edits and remixes. I really just wanted you all to hear them and I wanted to hear them again! For those not familiar with the Masterworks label; It's a brand new label that was just started by U.K. producer Danny Worrall (aka 80's Child). If both of those names don't sound familiar to you then you are either a.) a new listener to my show, b.) not keeping up with the world trends in disco and dance music, or c.) You haven't been to one of my shows. None of that is supposed to sound arrogant and condescending, but I literally play 80's Child edits during every live show and sometimes on theFix.fm. Each time I do drop one of Worrall's edits live, the crowd usually goes nuts! After witnessing it a couple of times, it's enough for me to make sure that I have a couple of his jams in solid rotation. However, there's way more goodness on this compilation than just 80's Child works! Shit Hot Soundsystem's track "Steady Rockin'" is stellar and I know will be a crowd favorite because it samples The Whispers - Rock Steady! (From experience, The Whispers go over surprisingly well in Charleston.) There's also a great warm up, pre-peak hour jam by Yam Who? called "Find Out." The track that it samples, is escaping my mind right this second, but it's killer!

Episode 32 - Vibe From A Different Tribe
First off, my apologies for just now getting this episode up. Unfortunately, it was never uploaded to my drive in order for me to pull it down to archive it. Better late than never I guess. If you couldn't tell from the opening track, I've been on a Paul Hardcastle trip as of late. No real reason for it. I just totally dig his work and it blows my mind that a good bit of his tracks that I really enjoy came out before I was born or when I was too young to remember them if, I even heard them during my infancy. His sounds are too futuristic. In addition to Hardcastle's work, take a listen to that out of this world Midnight Star jam, "Scientific Love."

Episode 31 - Happy New Year
Wow! What a 2014! First and foremost, thanks to all that listened to the show last year. Going back and looking at the stats, just on SoundCloud alone, I received over 21,000 plays! That really just blows my mind! Okay, enough of the exclamation points. Time to get down to the brass tacks. You'll notice that there are a few differences with the coming of the new year. The first thing is mix artwork. I stopped using Kilian Eng's artwork as cover art. As cool and amazing as the artwork is, it just wasn't something that could distinguish the show. It wasn't cohesive. I mean it was cohesively awesome, but I needed something that when somebody listened to it, they new just at a glance that this was my show. So I created this logo and ran it by a few folks and they gave me some great feedback on it. So I'm running with this. The next thing you'll notice is that I've dropped the whole "Captain's Log" sort of deal and I'm more or less, talking to you the reader. The show evolved throughout the year but mostly came back around as a two-hour mix show with me throwing samples in it. The same formula is going to continue, but I've got some guests coming in and calling in for shows in 2015. Keep your ears tuned in for those. Follow me on twitter for the absolute latest info on upcoming shows. Another reason I'm doing this is because, I want to more or less be more connected with those that listen to the show. I felt that if I put on too much of a "show" then there would be a disconnect from folks who just want to get down and listen to great jams. Anyway, enough of me rambling. Here's the first episode of 2015. Didn't talk very much because I'm very congested and in the middle of fighting a cold.

Episode 30 - Holiday Spirit
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92567.88 Happy Holidays everyone! Wow! I can hardly believe it. Thirty episodes done in one year. It's been an amazing time. I decided to throw down some jams in this episode to kind of round out the year on a good note. I also took a kind of freestyle moment and mix tracks together like I do live. Hopefully, you dig it. There's going to be a bit of change coming up in the future episodes. The music will all be funk, soul, and disco oriented. (That's not changing.) I'm going to start doing guest mixes, interviews, and a whole bunch of new ideas for the show. All good things I can assure you. I do want to thank everyone who has listened in over the passed year. You have no idea how much that means to me! There will be big things to come in 2015, that I can assure you.

Tired of the same ol' played out holiday music? Episode 29 - Disco Free
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92529.58 It's been a few weeks since I posted up the show's archives. I've just been waiting for the previous shows to be archived at the station. I'm not sure if I'll be able to upload Episode 28, but that really doesn't matter now. I'll post this one up for everyone to listen to. Got some good solid jams on here.

Episode 27 - Intimate Connections vol. 1
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92472.12 We're less than 100 days till Valentine's Day and I wanted to give you all a little sumthin' sumthin' to keep warm during the winter nights. (That is if you are in the northern hemisphere on Earth.) If it's summer where you are, then these slow jams will provide some smoothness to hold you over till the day of love. Another reason I decided to do this type of episode was because there was so much hate going on around the world wide web this passed week. All the hate was about stupid stuff too. For example, an oily woman showed her huge ass on instagram. I don't know why that's important but it pretty much makes the movie "Idiocracy" more and more relevant. I just wanted to go in the opposite direction as much as I could and not add to the hate.

Episode 26 - Disco Synth
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92451.6 I held off writing this because I wanted to try and put together an in-depth post about real disco and why many people in the United States are obsessed with the cheesiness of Studio 54. However, I couldn't come up with a good hypothesis about this disturbing reality. I have just been asking a lot of questions to myself. Studio 54 was just a place to be "seen in." It had no actual value to the nightclub, say for the superficial glitz and glamor. Maybe that's what people remember about disco of the 70's and 80's. Just the superficial stuff that pushed the music into pop culture and made the culture of disco popular, only to implode on itself and become a mockery of what disco originally stood for. Anyway, I could go on and on about this, but it would just be an incoherent rant and ramblings. Maybe this will all form together in the future and I'll be able to speak more clearly about why people prefer the fake versus the real.

Episode 25 - Horror Business - The Misfits Tribute
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92433.71 Halloween is upon us once again guys and ghouls! I kind of wanted to celebrate Halloween on the air by doing something completely different. I wanted to do something that reflected the mood of Halloween. I could have done a regular show and thrown in some disco edits of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" or Ray Parker, Jr.'s "Ghostbusters." You all would have expected that out of me. However, I'm a DJ of many tastes and always love to surprise my audience. A little back story; I have been into punk for years. My love for the Misfits came about before I was a teenager. My friend Brad introduced me to them and I was immediately hooked. There was something about the way Glenn Danzig was singing and the imagery of the now legendary "Crimson Ghost" that totally worked for me being a pre-pubescent youngster. I think it also helped that most of their songs were about some of the same cheesy horror movies that "Mystery Science Theater 3000" was making fun of. (Which is one of the greatest television programs in the history of television.) I would get so amped when my friends and I would hop in Brad's Parent's mini-van and head to the skatepark blasting The Misfits the whole way. It was also great that the artists in the band dressed as skeletons, ghouls, or whatever hellish costumes they could come out with. The Misfits were so different than anything that was out at the time. And I was always drawn in. Anyway, enough waxing over my love for The Misfits. The reason I did this show was to share my love of something different to you, the listener. I will always be into punk music, and I'll always be into The Misfits. There is a huge part of me that wishes that punk and rock were still just as edgy and had the controversy that it once did. Maybe one day that will all come back. Because all we got now are these wussy-ass rockers and their damn ukuleles.

Episode 24 - DeLorean Funk
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92414.55 Decided to go all in and pull some rare synthetic jams for all those folks cruising along in their funk time machines. I look at this episode as being a palate cleanser for the upcoming Misfits tribute show I'm doing for Halloween. Over all, people on SoundCloud are tripping out over some of the track selections. I had to dig through some serious boxes to pull some of these tracks out. The show sounds way, way, way too synthetic for my tastes. Then again, it still sounds a lot better than the crap that's coming out now-a-days and is being played on the radio. Definitely pay close attention to the Paul Hardcastle, Brutus and Deborah Washington tracks. Those in my opinion are the best ones in this episode. Especially, "Nothing But Drums." That track is killer!

Episode 23 - Swoop
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92395.4 I don't think I have ever named an episode after a track. In this case I had to! Right around the 1:20:00 mark I dropped an incredible edit of The Dazz Band's - "Swoop" by Loshmi off his Serious Edits Vol. 1 EP. The track is called "Wsoop Wsoop." (I later come to find out that Loshmi is actually an alias for producer Tonbe. I'm not 100% sure why the name change for this EP.) Anyway, the track is just banging! It literally was carrying me through the whole show. I was excited to throw it in the mix and I was pumped after I dropped it. So listen in for that track. Another track that's been getting people's heads to scratch is Buggin' Out's "Come on Over." I've already had someone hit me up over his track on SoundCloud asking me what it was. Also, I swear I've heard the vocal sample hundreds of times, but I can't pinpoint the track that it came from. If any of you all have a hint as to what it could be, please drop a comment. I'd love to know what it is. Peace and love from the stars above!

Episode 22 - Worldwide
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92376.25 The show is picking up steam from all over the globe! On this week's episode re-edit legend KS French tuned in and was digging the vibes! It kind of blew my mind mid-set. When I started doing this show, I didn't think that there would be that many people listening outside of Charleston where the station is based out of. However, it seems that the exact opposite is happening. There are already more people around the world that listen in on a consistent basis than folks in my own hometown. I guess it makes sense a little bit. Big ups to the SC Fashion 360 Conference for letting me in on their twitter chat this passed week. The hour chat went by way too fast. I ended up having to go back through the thread in order to read everything and found a lot of stuff that I missed. You can follow along in the thread by searching for #SCFashion360 in twitter. Also, the Fashion 360 Conference is on October the 18th, from 9am - 4pm at the Art Institute of Charleston. Registration for the conference is still available and more information can be found on the SC Fashion 360 Conference website. Thanks again to all those who listened!

Episode 20 - Grab Bag
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92318.79 Wow! Twenty episodes in and I'm still going strong! You know I look back on all the episodes so far, and you know what? I've dropped over 400 different tracks in less than half a year. Never once playing the same song twice. Corporate radio doesn't play 400 different tracks a year let alone never playing the same song more than once. The Fix.FM is really where the future of radio is at. Anyway, I decided to switch things up a bit for the evening. Every once in a while it's good to try something new. I decided to let iTunes randomly select tracks for me to throw into ScratchLive. I don't know what happened but in the middle of the third song, my hard drive just decided the best course of action was to unmount itself. (I still have no idea why this happened. All the hardware scans after the show came out okay and it hasn't happened again.) So, if you hear what sounds like some clever editing, then you are hearing where the archive file was modified by the station engineer. If you don't hear it, then all good! Big shout out to the I Am Love band stopping through from their east coast tour to play our "Fix Presents" event. Make sure you check them out on their ReverbNation page. They were really good and were all really cool dudes to hang out with. Another shout out to Charleston favorite Livy Conner for gracing the event with her wonderful music and vocals. (She sounds like my mother when she sings.) Their drummer was really good and he even dug the tunes I was spinning. I didn't get a chance to catch the banjo player's name but he was damn good too.

Episode 19 - German Connection
Captain's Log, Stardate: 92299.64 Lately it seems I'm getting more listeners in other parts of the world than I am in my home town of Charleston! That is blowing my mind! One of these days I hope to play in areas where all my listeners are at. It would be a great time. Just chill, drop some tunes, party with other people in foreign lands. It's just great when you can connect with others through one of the things you love the most in life. Anyway, on this weeks episode I got a chance to interact with one of my foreign listeners, Boogie Banton. Boogie is all the way in Hamburg, Germany. (Big ups to all the folks in Hamburg who are tuning in!) Like myself, he is devoted to the art of shaking butts. I checked out his mixes on SoundCloud, and if you dig what I do, then you'll dig what he does. Check out his mix Radio Flow #16 [Rollerskating Edits] for a cool edit of a Carly Simon's "Why." KS French has dropped another release "The Supernatural Edits EP." I'm starting to think this Parisian editor is some sort of X-Men whose mutant power is to produce edits and remixes at breakneck speeds. To me, this EP is a slight variation of French's normal work. The tracks are a bit slower and only one track is about the 120BPM range. Overall, it's still going to be in heavy rotation with me because I do dig it and I'm a huge KS French fan. Check it out on SoundCloud and buy it from Juno Downloads.
