TAS 166 – Meghla Joins us to Chat Sourcing from India and Beyond in 2026
Meghla Bhardwaj and I go back years — she’s joined the show many times before — and today, I’m excited to have her back. She’s the CEO of the ‘India Sourcing Network’. In this episode we catch up on how sourcing from India has evolved: Meghla explains how India Sourcing Network has moved from simple supplier matching to full end-to-end solutions for importers and Amazon sellers — sourcing, QC, packaging and logistics. We dig into booming categories like home furnishings, copper and metal goods, and hospitality supplies, and why India’s lower MOQs, customization options and how eco-friendly materials are attracting buyers. We also talk tech and manufacturing — more automation and AI — plus the ripple effects from global events on freight and the need to diversify supply chains. If you sell products or manage sourcing, Meghla offers practical insights on how to tap India’s specialized strengths today. Stick around — this is a great update. Don’t forget to join my Facebook Group! Head over to www.theaustralianseller.com/facebook And I am offering private coaching so please head over to www.theaustralianseller.com/chris to book an hour session with me to make sure you’re heading in the right direction! If you own or work for a consumer products brand and need help setting up or running your Amazon business including managing your Sponsored Advertising, feel free to get in touch with me – I run an Australian based Amazon Account Management Consultancy agency, helping private label sellers as well as household brands in Australia and internationally, like No Pong, Lucent Globe and TafToys just to name a few…. TAS 165 – Brand Rescue Mission! Ben Leonard on building a $6m brand, selling it, and buying it back 5 years later to start all over again.
In the 1970’s and 80’s there was a famous Australian businessman, Kerry Packer who sold a popular TV station he owed to an upcoming businessman, Alan Bond for 1.2 Billion in 1987. In 1990: Packer bought it back for only A$250 million, after Bond’s empire collapsed under financial pressure just 3 years later. This deal became legendary in Australian business history. Packer famously quipped: “You only get one Alan Bond in your lifetime, and I’ve had mine.” Ben Leonard sold his $6m P/A Brand, Beast Gear to aggregator, Thrasio in 2019. Thrasio has since filed for bankruptcy and Ben was able to negotiate to buy back Beast Gear after it had been completely driven into the ground. Today’s story has everything, how Ben grew Beast Gear from nothing to $6m in 4 years to how the aggregator destroyed everything that had made Beast Gear such a great brand. Now Ben has it back and is publicly documenting the rescue mission to re-build Beast Gear to its former glory. TAS 162 – Amazon to Bakers Delight. 23 YO Dominic from Brisbane and his Amazing Journey
Dominic from Think 4 Earth started selling reusable bread bags on Amazon USA just 5 short years ago, straight out of High School. As you’ll hear in today’s conversation, Dominic’s a bit of a self starter and a hell of a go-getter! About 9 months ago, he sent a package of his bread bags (and a nice letter) to Baker’s Delight (Australia’s largest nationwide bakery chain). Fast forward to today and his bags are in 50 stores across Australia. He still sells his bags at the markets on the weekend to stay in touch with his customers, and has huge plans for the future. TAS 161 – Forward Contracts, Canton Fair, Supplier Relations and auditing your Supply Chain. Jim Vrondas from WorldFirst explains.
Jim Vrondas from World First joins me today and we chat about the importance of Supplier Relations, actually visiting your suppliers rather than relying just on Alibaba for your sourcing needs from afar. At the Amazon Collective back in March, Jim did a presentation about Forward Contracts which sound might sound a bit ‘dry’ but in reality can eliminate your currency movement risks and is super easy to set up. Speaking of Jim, he invited me to speak alongside other ecommerce experts at the free World First event next Thursday 1st of August. TAS 159 – Amazon is Taking on Temu, Shien, Tik Tok etc, and what this means for 3rd Party Sellers with Steven Selikoff
Steven Selikoff returns to the Podcast this week to fill us in on the latest development by Amazon to try and take on the Chinese eCommerce juggernauts with the likes of Temu, Shien, AliExpress, Tik Tok and others. These platforms have been taking advantage of a customs rule known as De Minimis, which, in most countries, allows cheap, small parcel deliveries from China and other countries to be excluded from customs duties and tariffs. Us 3rd Party sellers, shipping goods in bulk to FBA are generally subject to duties, taxes and tariffs before we can even sell our products, so we’re at a bit of a disadvantage. Steven says that Amazon is courting factories in China right now, and inviting them to participate in Amazon’s new ‘factory direct’ program. What form or shape Amazon’s new program will take is uncertain. We don’t know if it will be a new standalone website platform, or if it’ll be integrated into Amazon.com somehow. Time will tell. Today, Steven offers tips for 3rd Party sellers to remain in business as the stormclouds gather around us! If you’re still selling ‘Me too’ products, you won’t stand a chance. Steven’s Canton Fair Trip is coming up in October, so if you want to stay ahead and join Steven on his China Product Sourcing and Development Trip, simply visit www.cantonfair2024.com and use the coupon code Chris500 to save $500! TAS 158 – Selling on Amazon India. Peter Everett from Australian Brand, Nanoman explains
My good friend Peter Everett joined me for a chat about how he’s been gradually expand his small brand around the world using Amazon. Today we chat about how he got started in the USA, before setting up in Australia. From Australia, the next Amazon stop was Singapore and then onto Amazon UK. In March 2023 he listed some of his products on Amazon India, and the results blew him away. As a marketplace, Amazon India is a sleeping giant, so if you can through all the red tape and taxes, you may find it to be the most profitable Marketplace you can sell in. This coming Thursday 4th July, there’s an Amazon meetup down here in Melbourne, from 5pm until 8.00pm at the Emerald Peacock bar in Lonsdale Street. Feel free to come join us there whether you’re an Amazon seller or not! I’m also speaking in Sydney at a World First event on the 1st of August. They quickly realised that the retail arbitrage model wasn’t a sustainably scalable business, so they pivoted to Private label in 2016 and things took off after they were interviewed on a popular radio show in the USA. An interesting way to launch a product on Amazon, that’s for sure! They now have 9 Brands, with hundreds of SKU’s selling both on Amazon and Walmart, last year selling over $50 million. TAS 133 – Jamie Paros wrapping 2022, SkuDrop and what’s in store for Amazon Sellers in 2023!
Today I’m chatting with my good friend Jamie Paros about 2022, with both of us holding Amazon Seller events like the Amazon Collective, End Game and of course, Southern Seller Fest. We also chat about Jamie’s latest project, SkuDrop which, if you’re manufacturing in China, is a total game changer for Amazon sellers exporting from China to the USA, and soon, UK and Australian FBA Warehouses. Instead of shipping all your goods to Amazon directly or to a 3PL, you ship your goods after production to one of SkuDrop’s Chinese warehouses and generate small-medium daily, weekly or monthly Amazon shipping plans for just-in-time inventory replenishment. This is going to save sellers $1000’s of dollars per year. To take advantage of Jamie’s 6 months free membership (USD $54 saving) head to www.theaustralianseller.com/skudrop and use code: SDAUSSIESELLER at checkout. Don’t forget to apply for the upcoming Amazon Collective Mastermind event that Regina and I are holding in beautiful Ubud, Bali between the 18th and the 22nd of June 2023. TAS 131 – Southern Seller Fest interviews with Meghla Bhardwaj, Tim Jordan, Marg Jolly and Aleisha Goodall.
Just got back from Southern Seller Fest which what was undoubtedly the most amazing Amazon event I’ve ever been to, not just here in Australia, but in the world. It was an absolute credit to Michael and Jamie who pulled off an incredible event jammed packed with amazing speakers with incredible content. A really big thanks to them both. One of the big announcements they made during the event was the official launch of their new supply chain management software www.SKUdrop.com – this will be a total game changer for Amazon sellers exporting from China to the USA. Instead of shipping all your goods to Amazon directly or to a 3PL in the USA, you ship your goods after production to one of their Chinese warehouses and generate small-medium daily, weekly or monthly Amazon shipping plans for just-in-time inventory replenishment. They gave us a live demo while they were on stage, including a live cross to one of the warehouse teams in China. This is going to save sellers $1000’s of dollars per year. Looking forward to having Jamie on the podcast in the coming months to talk you through. While I was there, I whipped out the microphone and had an impromptu chat with Meghla, Tim and Marg. Of course we chatted about the very exciting upcoming Ecommerce India event happening between the 10th and the 11th October as well as the India Sourcing Trip which is coming up fast between the 12th through to the 19th October 2022. TAS 130 – Multiple 7 Figure Australian Amazon Seller Julian Fishman’s Process for Massive Exits.
Had an awesome chat today with Julian Fishman from my hometown, Melbourne Australia. Julian and his business partner Shane have several huge Amazon businesses doing mid-7 figures per year, as well as consulting to 8-figure Amazon businesses. He started his career in banking, before starting a bike shop in inner-city Melbourne called Velo-Cycles (if you live in Melbourne, you’ll know they’re one of the city’s largest). He sold that business and headed to Silcon Valley, getting involved in a software startup. From there he learned about Amazon, saw a product being spruiked on Social media and decided to give it a try. In month one he’d sold over $120K worth of product and was off to the Amazon races. Today we talk about what it takes to build a 7 figure Amazon business for an exit. Speaking of 7 figures … If you’re a 6, 7 or 8 figure seller, please join a small group of big Australian Amazon sellers to mastermind and take your business to the next level. To learn more, and apply for a spot, head over the www.theaustralianseller.com/collective. The Amazon Collective Mastermind is brought to you by Payoneer. Also, don’t forget about the upcoming India Sourcing Trip 2022. He has a very small team comprising, himself, his mum and a VA, Dora in the Philippines and together they turn over about $3 million per year on Amazon with a very profitable range of products. TAS 125 – $2.0 Million in sales in 12 months – Justin Huang from Bubble Tea Club and Airwallex reveals all
A couple of weeks ago while I was up at Retail Global I moderated a Panel on International Ecommerce Expansion. One the panellists was Justin Huang. Apart from running restaurants, Justin is also the partnerships manager for Airwallex – he’s a super busy guy! At the panel, Justin was telling the story about how his company sells Bubble Tea Kits mainly through his shopify website www.bubbleteaclub.com.au. In its first 12 months, it sold over $2 Million of Bubble Tea Kits! It’s such an interesting story I had to invite him on the Podcast. Aside from Bubble tea, Justin’s, he’s also sold furniture, pillow cases, fidget spinners, masks, hand sanitiser, hover boards and board games online – just to name a few… Justin also has an exclusive offer to share with you – he’s offering $20K of free FX with Airwallex and priority onboarding, so head over to www.airwallex.com/theaustralianseller to claim that offer…! TAS 123 – Launching with Amazon PPC, Copywriting, Triple Index Keywords & more with Heath Thompson – The Amazon Alchemist
I’ve just recorded an amazing conversation with Heath Thompson who is, I think, the world’s best Amazon PPC Expert. After listening in on our conversation I think you’ll agree. Let’s put it this way, (I’m going to fess up here) I’ve been helping a client over the last few months with their PPC and managed to get their ACOS down to around 30% – To be honest, I was really struggling to get it any lower. In the last fortnight, Heath has taken over; totally transformed the account and has already dropped the ACOS to below 20% and it’s still improving. I’ve been schooled! Learn more about Heath’s PPC course by heading over to www.theaustralianseller.com/heath Heath has been interviewed by Jamie and Michael over at the Endgame Network as well as helping them directly with their Amazon accounts. Speaking of Jamie, he’s speaking at Regina and my upcoming Mastermind event on the weekend of the 18th, 19th and 20th of March 2022 called the Amazon Collective. The conference will be held off-site in the beautiful Yarra Valley just outside of Melbourne. It’s strictly for 6, 7 and even 8 figure Amazon business owners based here in Australia and New Zealand – it’s not for newbies of beginners. TAS 120 – When Amazon Basics rips off your product and how Peak Design responded.
I’ve been so so busy building my little Amazon Account Management agency Amasphere – getting it set up as an official service provider that I have not had time to get a podcast episode out the door for over a month! Apologies! Anyway today I have a special episode with Peak Design’s head of marketing Adam Saraceno. Peak Design started 10 years ago with a single camera accessory product, the Camera Capture Clip. Peter Dering launched on Kickstarter and instantly had a runaway success becoming Kickstarter’s 3rd biggest campaign of all time in 2011. Peter was so busy with the campaign, he called on Adam, his old college buddy to help out and Adam has been with Peak design ever since. They’ve gone on to raise an astounding 34.5 Million dollars in crowdfunding campaigns over the last 10 years. Today we discuss all of that and what happened when Amazon Basics copied one of their products, how they responded, and the lessons learned from that experience to help you reduce the chances of Amazon stealing your successful product ideas. Regina Peterburgsky and I are holding on weekend of the 18th, 19th and 20th of March 2022 called the Amazon Collective. TAS 118 – Sell on Wish? You bet! Shira Levine explains how and why.
This week, I chat to Shira Levine from Wish! Wish started life about 10 years ago with a goal to make shopping app-based and fun! There’s no doubt that they accomplished their objective as it really is fun, with the average visitor spending over 9 minutes on the app. However, with a glut of cheap and cheerful Chinese sellers basically taking over the platform, Wish decided to attract established brands to the platform to encourage more consumers to shop there. Shira’s mission in Australia is to help established brands and sellers like you, set up on Australia’s newest marketplace, and she’s here to help you. Listen to the end as she has some great offers to help you get started, and help you set up, as she did with me recently. With over 90 million shoppers all over the world, Wish is definitely a Marketplace to consider and today Shira and I have a fun conversation about how it all hangs together.
