TAP050: The Beginner's Guide to Value Shifts or Turning a Scene
Send us Fan MailIf you're new to writing, you've probably read the title of this episode and thought, "Oh, great, my scenes need to turn, now." Or perhaps you're not new to writing, heard this term before, and you're thinking, "I don't think so." Before you hit the pause, please hear me out.Value shifts are a great way to ensure that each scene moves the story forward and pulls its weight. I also realise that I'm not the first person to discuss turning a scene or value shifts in the writing space. But I want to assure you that I don't want to add more confusion to the mix or discuss this topic in a way that is overly complicated. That's why I've called this The Beginner's Guide. In this beginner's guide, I will define the term value shifts or the concept of the turning of a scene, explain how a scene turns, and share non-spoiler-y examples from the mystery and romance genres. Also, I'll show you how to check if your scenes turn and move the story forward. On top of this, I'll demonstrate how to fix a scene that doesn't turn.Without further ado, let's get into the episode.Course, Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap050/ TAP047, What is a story beat? ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap047/TAP046, Ending Scenes with Cliffhangers ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap046/TAP045, The Anatomy of a Scene ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap045/TAP041, What is a Scene? ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap041/Story by Robert McKee ⇢ https://amzn.to/49VnLAe *Plot and Structure by James Scott Bell ⇢ https://amzn.to/3Wcq8eN *Story Grid by Shawn Coyne ⇢ https://amzn.to/4aZNs3O *Suggest an Episode Topic ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/request/Got a burning question that you would love me to answer on the podcast ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/Answers to Questions on Writing from Previous Shows ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/faq/Be on the Podcast | https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/podcast/interview/Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS059: Writing Wins, Book Piracy, and Self-Publishing Struggles
Send us Fan MailToday, I'm bringing you my 2024 writing update, and honestly, it's been quite the year. I've got some wins to celebrate, like writing nearly 60,000 more words than last year and finishing two books in a completely new genre. But I've also hit some roadblocks that have left me questioning everything from Facebook ad strategies to whether I should keep writing at all. We're going to dive into my venture into cozy mysteries, my ongoing battle with Google Play Books over mysterious tax certificates, and yes, the frustrating reality of book piracy. Also, I'll share why I've been experimenting with AI translation for a French edition of my work, and how I'm navigating the ever-changing landscape of self-publishing.Course, Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/bts059/The previous Episode ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap049/Suggest an Episode Topic ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/request/Got a burning question that you would love me to answer on the podcast ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/Answers to Questions on Writing from Previous Shows ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/faq/Products I RecommendScrivener ⇢ https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener-affiliate.html?fpr=authorpreneurpod *Grammarly Premium ⇢ https://www.grammarly.com/Pro Writing Aid ⇢ https://prowritingaid.com/?afid=22911 *AutoCrit ⇢ https://www.autocrit.com/Marlow/Authors.ai ⇢ https://authors.ai/marlowe/?awref=rt2q4bq7zq *Fiverr ⇢ https://www.fiverr.com/DIVI Theme ⇢ https://www.elegantthemes.com/affiliates/idevaffiliate.php?id=66529 *Other Useful LinksLooking for an affordable premade book cover? | https://levillainbookcovers.com/shop/ **Be on the Podcast | https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/podcast/interview/Host Your Author Website with SiteGround ⇢ Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP049: 14 Timeless Principles on the Art of Story with Douglas Vigliotti
Send us Fan MailWhat can Aristotle teach modern novelists? In this episode, I chat with Douglas Vigliotti about his book Aristotle for Novelists: 14 Timeless Principles on the Art of Story. I loved talking to him about Aristotle for Novelists because it reminded me of my screenwriting roots, and it was nice to look back on my writing journey. Also, I loved his book because it was short enough to read in one sitting, but still contained timeless principles that I could walk away with and apply to my next book. So, if you haven't grabbed your copy, I highly recommend you do. TAP048, Getting Into Reading, Its Hidden Benefits and the Books For Men Podcast with Douglas Vigliotti
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I chat with Douglas Vigliotti about getting into reading, its hidden benefits and the Books For Men Podcast. Please note that this is the first part of a two-part interview with Doug. In the second part, I discuss his book, Aristotle for Novelists. I felt that this chat about his podcast and reading was long enough to warrant its own episode. Also, I wanted to avoid clickbaiting because this interview is nineteen minutes long, and the second part is around forty-three minutes long. Send us Fan MailIts been a while—fourteen months and a few days to be exact. TAP047, What is a Story Beat? | How to Write Great Scenes
Send us Fan MailAs I wrote the outline and script for the show on value shifts, I realised that there is a smaller unit of story that I need to discuss that's integral to understanding value shifts or how a scene turns. So, I considered adding it to that episode but soon discovered that the final version of the episode would be too long. That's why I created this, hopefully, short bonus show where I discuss what is a story beat. TAP046, End Your Scenes with Cliffhangers | How to Write Great Scenes
Send us Fan MailSo you've probably read the title of this episode and thought, what do cliffhangers have to do with outlining? I'm so glad you asked. Let me explain. If you're the kind of writer who needs to outline every scene, then you need to be aware of the types of cliffhangers and how to effectively use them to create a page-turning effect and not turn readers away. In fact, there is more than one type of cliffhanger—there are four. So, in this episode, I'll unpack the four types of cliffhangers in fiction so that you can avoid the common pitfalls and end your scenes with cliffhangers in a way that keeps the reader turning the page.Without further ado, let's get into the episode.Course, Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap046/The previous Episode ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/bts057/TAP045, The Anatomy of a Scene ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap045/TAP041, What is a Scene? ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap041/Got a burning question that you would love me to answer on the podcast ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/Answers to Questions on Writing from Previous Shows ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/faq/Products I RecommendScrivener ⇢ https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener-affiliate.html?fpr=authorpreneurpod *Grammarly Premium ⇢ https://www.grammarly.com/Pro Writing Aid ⇢ https://prowritingaid.com/?afid=22911 *AutoCrit ⇢ https://www.autocrit.com/Marlow/Authors.ai ⇢ https://authors.ai/marlowe/?awref=rt2q4bq7zq *Fiverr ⇢ https://www.fiverr.com/DIVI Theme ⇢ https://www.elegantthemes.com/affiliates/idevaffiliate.php?id=66529 *Other Useful LinksLooking for an affordable premade book cover? | https://levillainbookcovers.com/shop/ **Be on the Podcast | https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/podcast/interview/Host Your Author Website with SiteGround ⇢ Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS057, A Year in Review and Self Publishing Products I Loved in 2023
Send us Fan MailI'm back again. And yes, it's been sixteen weeks since I released an episode of the podcast. Between now and November, I took December and January off because it's a busy time of year and I tend to travel during these periods. When I got back from vacation at the end of January, I had caught the flu from a family function. Guess who didn't get the flu vaccine? But I was out of action for three weeks, and I wanted to wait until I got my voice back before I continued podcasting. In this episode, I look back on 2023 and discuss the highs and lows. On top of this, I share the products and courses that I recommend and are still using in my writing and self-publishing business.Without further ado, let's get on with the episode.Show Notes and Links to Products and CoursesI'm really sorry, but I ran out of room to list all of the products and courses that I love. TAP045, The Anatomy of a Scene: Goal, Tension, Conflict and Stakes | How to Write Great Scenes
Send us Fan MailSo, how do you write a great scene? But not just a great scene but a scene that keeps a reader engaged and turning the pages, no matter what genre you're writing. The answer is in the details. In order to write great scenes, you need to pay attention to the anatomy of the scene. So, what do I mean by anatomy? I'm referring to the elements of a scene, which include the goal, tension, conflict and stakes of a scene. In this episode, I'm going to break down these individual elements and share tips on how you can incorporate this into your writing.Course, Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap045/TAP041, What is a Scene? ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap041/TAP009, The 5 Types of Story Conflict ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/5-types-of-story-conflict/TAP010, How to add more conflict in a story ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/create-conflict-in-a-story/Got a burning question that you would love me to answer on the podcast ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/Answers to Questions on Writing from Previous Shows ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/faq/Products I RecommendScrivener ⇢ https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener-affiliate.html?fpr=authorpreneurpod *Grammarly Premium ⇢ https://www.grammarly.com/Pro Writing Aid ⇢ https://prowritingaid.com/?afid=22911 *AutoCrit ⇢ https://www.autocrit.com/Marlow/Authors.ai ⇢ https://authors.ai/marlowe/?awref=rt2q4bq7zq *Fiverr ⇢ https://www.fiverr.com/DIVI Theme ⇢ https://www.elegantthemes.com/affiliates/idevaffiliate.php?id=66529 *Other Useful LinksLooking for an affordable premade book cover? | https://levillainbookcovers.com/shop/ **Be on the Podcast | https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/podcast/interview/Host Your Author Website with SiteGround ⇢ Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

Send us Fan MailI'm back. And yes, it's been sixteen weeks since I released an episode of the podcast. Originally, I took the summer off because I needed to take a holiday from podcasting and writing. However, I did a bit of blogging during my break, where I discussed whether you should use AI-generated images in book covers. Also, I wrote a blog post on how to work with a book cover designer. This article was originally written to help potential clients and browsers for Le Villain Book Covers, but I shared the full article on authorpreneur podcast dot com because I believed it would be useful to you as well. While we're on the topic of book cover design, I discussed in another blog post the things you need to know before you design your own book cover. It's been both challenging and fun all at once.In the spirit of celebrating the 100th episode milestone, I'm going answer the top questions asked by my Blog Readers, YouTube Subscribers, and Podcast Listeners, and questions asked through my Ask A Question form on my website.Course, Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/100th-episode/TAP033, The Case for Outlining, Outlining Pitfalls, and Overcoming Writing Obstacles ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap033/TAP034, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel (Part 1 of 3) ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap034/TAP035, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel, (Part 2 of 3) ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap035/TAP036, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel (Part 3 of 3) ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap036/TAP037, How I Edit the Outline of a Novel Before Writing the First Draft ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap037/TAP043, A Tale of Two Novels: My Experience Writing into the Dark ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap043/Course on Writing into the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith (WMG Publishing) ⇢ https://wmg-publishing-workshops-and-lectures.teachable.com/p/writing-into-the-darkBook on Writing into the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith ⇢ https://amzn.to/3LUjkNV *Blogging as an Unpublished Fiction Author ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/blogging-unpublished-fiction-author/ProBlogger ⇢ https://problogger.com/Answers to Questions on Writing from Previous Shows ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/question/faq/Looking for an affordable premade book cover? | https://levillainbookcovers.com/shop/ **Be on the Podcast | Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

Let's just say that I regret leaving Draft 2 Digital. And I discuss how I've screwed up my amateur sleuth mystery series. TAP043, A Tale of Two Novels: My Experience Writing into the Dark
Send us Fan MailIn February, I finished writing the Locked Room into the Dark, and I'll discuss how I achieved this, along with the response of my favourite beta reader. As you've come to expect, I will share my writing stats, days, time, word count and the step-by-step process that I used. Now that I've mentioned that, it's crucial that I point out that I'm following Dean Wesley Smith's Writing Into the Dark method, which he teaches in a course and in a book. I highly recommend that you check out both of these options if you're interested in learning how to discovery write.Without further ado, let's get into the episode.Course, Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap043/Course on Writing into the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith (WMG Publishing) ⇢ https://wmg-publishing-workshops-and-lectures.teachable.com/p/writing-into-the-darkBook on Writing into the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith ⇢ https://amzn.to/3LUjkNV *Course on Writing a Locked Room Mystery by Dean Wesley Smith (WMG Publishing) ⇢ https://wmg-publishing-workshops-and-lectures.teachable.com/p/pop-up-17Course on Writing with Depth by Dean Wesley Smith (WMG Publishing) ⇢ https://wmg-publishing-workshops-and-lectures.teachable.com/p/apr-depth23Products I RecommendScrivener ⇢ https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener-affiliate.html?fpr=authorpreneurpod *Grammarly Premium ⇢ https://www.grammarly.com/Pro Writing Aid ⇢ https://prowritingaid.com/?afid=22911*Marlow/Authors.ai ⇢ https://authors.ai/marlowe/?awref=rt2q4bq7zq*Host Your Author Website with SiteGround ⇢ https://www.siteground.com/go/authorpreneur*Other Useful LinksLooking for an affordable premade book cover? | https://levillainbookcovers.com/shop/ **Be on the Podcast | https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/podcast/interview/Want the podcast straight to your inbox? ⇢ https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/podcast/tap/Got a Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS051, Writing a Locked Room Mystery, Author Book Readings, and Tech Issues Galore
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, discuss what I've been doing in February. I also share my frustrations about a tech fail and newfound thoughts on this product and delve into why I've changed my mind. It's important to discuss the positives and negatives of products I use and recommend because I've discovered something stupid that needs to be addressed or I feel like I need to talk about it. So, perhaps this is, in part, a bit of therapy for me. And I'm coming off a rather super frustrated week where I feel like I've wasted my time. But, in the spirit of fairness, I'm all up for wasting my money in terms of experimenting and trying things than letting you know about it because that's the point of me doing this. I waste my money trying stuff, so you don't have to, but I digress. Also, I discuss a few things I did for the podcast, writing-related tasks, plus a marketing experiment I did this month.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous EpisodeBook EdgeMailerLite*My reading of The Candidate on YouTubeSelf Publishing Journey's PodcastSupport the show by buying me a coffeeWant the podcast straight to your inbox?Host Your Author Website with SiteGround *Interested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel?Am Writing Fiction Community by The Authorpreneur Podcast (Facebook Group)My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Book Covers) **Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS050, More Experiments with Ad Stacking
Send us Fan MailSo, I decided to list Suspicion for free and promote it using various newsletter book promotion services ahead of the release of the second book in the James Lalonde series. The promotions I booked were with AuthorsXP, Fussy Librarian, Kobo, and Free Booksy; altogether, these promotions cost me £176.67 or US$209.96. I used the Google exchange rate from the 19th of November, just in case you're interested. So, in this behind-the-scenes author diary, I will discuss the results of my experiments with Ad stacking on my first-in-series novella or short novel. But first, let's discuss my expectations. My ExpectationsTo be honest, my expectations were relatively low in terms of download numbers. Still, I expected around 2,000 downloads from the Free Booksy promotion only because of an experience in the past. But I was hoping some people would download Suspicion like the store and either follow me on Amazon and buy the next book when it's released or even purchase the preorder. Even though I was hoping for these things, I was pretty pessimistic about the results and knew it was more of an experiment. On top of this, I was terrified that I would receive more harsh reviews or low-rated positive reviews, thanks to my experiences with BookSirens. As a result, I was starting to think this third edition was crappy, and as a result, I was a crappy writer. But that's a story for another time.Without further ado, let's get into the episode.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous EpisodeHost Your Author Website with SiteGround *AuthorsXP, Daily DealFussy LibrarianFree BooksyBookSproutInterested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel?Want the podcast straight to your inbox? My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Book Covers) **Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS049, A Year in Review and Self Publishing Products I Loved in 2022
Send us Fan MailThis year, I've decided to start my podcast by looking back at everything I achieved in 2022. After that, I will discuss the products I loved in 2022 and will continue to use in 2023. I will also not dive too deeply into metrics like hours or word count because that's not helpful. In fact, as a coach, I hate metrics because it doesn't contribute anything of value, especially in the writing space. Everyone writes differently. Some people need to write slowly, think and research as they write. And if that's you, it's okay to write that way and slowly build your backlist. But I'll hop off my soap box now.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous EpisodePhotoshop, Illustrator + InDesignCanva *Deposit Stock Photos *iStockVector StockStripeWooCommerceWordPressThe Divi Theme *Gravity FormsSiteground *Blubrry *Ecamm LiveFinal Cut ProGaragebandBlue Yeti Microphone *BookFunnel *PayHipVellumDraft2DigitalNaturalReaders (Premium)Scrivener *Grammarly PremiumProWriting Aid *AutoCritAuthors ai (Marlow) *BookSproutSupport the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP042, Troy Lambert Discusses Plotting and Story Organisation Techniques with Plottr
Send us Fan MailA few weeks ago, I received an email from Plottr letting me know they were interested in chatting with me on my podcast about plotting and story organisation techniques and how Plottr can benefit both Plotters and Pantsers. Because Plottr is a story organisation tool, I thought the interview would be great for this season of The Authorpreneur Podcast because I'm discussing outlining and the pre-writing phase. Also, if you've been thinking about trying Plottr this might help you decide whether the software is right for you. So, in the show, I'm chatting with Troy Lambert about plotting and story organisation techniques with Plottr.I did stray from the topic and talk about why I'm transitioning from writing with an outline to writing into the dark and my feelings about revision and working with a professional editor. Troy Lambert, who is also a developmental editor, gave me some great advice about these topics. I considered moving this content to a separate interview, but the interview didn't make sense. As a result, I left the episode intact. Before we get into the interview, here's a bit about Troy.About Troy LambertTroy Lambert is a freelance writer, author, editor, and education lead for Plottr. The author of over 25 novels, he lives, works, and plays in the mountains of Idaho with his wife and two very talented dogs. So, without further ado, let's get into the episode.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous EpisodePlottrScrivener (Mac) *Scrivener (Windows) *Grammarly PremiumProWriting Aid *AutoCritAuthors ai (Marlow) *Interested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel?Support the show by buying me a coffeeWant the podcast straight to your inbox? My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP041, What is a scene? All Your Questions Answered
Send us Fan MailAre you confused about scenes and chapters? Do you write scenes that aren't working, and you wonder why?In this first instalment of this mini-series on scenes, I will discuss the difference between scenes and chapters. Define what is a scene in the context of novel writing. I will answer the age-old question: what is the perfect length of a scene? And I will share how to end a scene and know when a scene has reached its natural end. About the Mini-SeriesYou'll probably have noticed that I've mentioned that this is a part of a mini-series but haven't said how long this series will last. That's because I honestly don't know. I want to leave it a little open-ended so I can give the series as many episodes as it needs. Why? Because I want this episode to help you write better scenes. And in the spirit of that helpfulness, I've also included another writing exercise in this show as well.So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous EpisodeInterested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel?Support the show by buying me a coffeeWant the podcast straight to your inbox? My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Book Covers) **Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS048, Trademarking My Podcast Name, Publishing Books, Mixed Feelings About ARC services, and Designing Covers
Send us Fan MailIt's been a while since I filmed or recorded a Behind the Scenes Author Diary Update—so that's what I'm going to do. In this episode, I will discuss what I've been doing since January 2022. And this episode isn't going to be scripted, mainly because if I start scripting these episodes, it will take a long time to produce them. Let's face it: I know what I've done this year, so I shouldn't have to rely on a script to discuss that. It's not like I want to say something in a certain way because it's super important for me to communicate it. I'm just simply talking about my year. So, in this show, I'm going to come clean about why I've trademarked my podcast's name. Honestly, this isn't the first time I considered discussing it. The last time, I chickened out. Also, I will discuss the books I published this year and my mixed feelings about using Advanced Reader Services. TAP040, Writing From a Character's Point of View
Send us Fan MailNow that you've chosen the right point of view for your story, you're finally ready to put pen to page and start writing or outlining your novel, right? No, there is a little more to Point-of-View than first, second or third person. And that's what we're going to discuss in this show. When planning out season three of the podcast, I split the episodes covering Point-of-View into several parts. The first instalment, episode TAP039, discusses Point-of-View in writing fiction and the things to consider when choosing the right point of view for your novel. In this second instalment, I will discuss writing from a character's point of view and share how to overcome the biggest mistake many first-time writers make. I'm not saying that I've mastered this technique in any way, shape or form, but I've made mistakes and learned valuable lessons that I want to share with you.So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous EpisodeInterested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel?Support the show by buying me a coffeeWant the podcast straight to your inbox? My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Book Covers) **My BooksMy Short Story, the LawnThe Candidate (Rookie Reporter, Book 1)Suspicion (James Lalonde, Book 1)Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP039, Point of View: Which One is Right for Your Story
Send us Fan MailBefore you put pen to page, you need to decide which point of view is right for your story. In this show, I will discuss point-of-view in writing fiction and the things to consider when choosing the right point of view for your novel. But I will not discuss second-person because I don't understand its mechanics. And I will not be delving too deep into third-person omniscient point-of-view for similar reasons. While researching for this episode, I received contradictory advice on how to write in the third-person omniscient, especially about whether head-hopping is permitted. In light of this, I'm considering interviewing an editor on my podcast and asking questions about point-of-view in fiction. So, let me know if you are interested in listening to this interview. TAP038, Dave Chesson Discusses Writing, Editing, Formatting, and Collaborating with Atticus
Send us Fan MailIn previous podcast episodes, I've mentioned that I want this podcast to be free of interviews unless they are about how an author writes, outlines or writes without an outline. Today, I'm making an exception with this bonus interview because I believe the discussion will benefit you even if you're in the planning stages of writing your first novel. As you can guess from the title of this show, I chatted with Dave Chesson from Kindlepreneur on writing, editing, formatting, and collaborating with Atticus. For those who don't know, Atticus is a brand new all-in-one writing software for writers launched at the end of 2021. That's when the reviews of the software first launched. One of the many things I like about Atticus is that the developers are making updates all the time, and these updates are free after the initial purchase of the programme. And they have a calendar available where you can see when certain features are due to be rolled out. Before we get into the interview, here's a bit about Dave Chesson.About Dave ChessonDave Chesson is a military veteran, husband, and father of three. But, when he's not doing Dad things, he's an avid book marketer. Dave works in publishing and book marketing and has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, ALLi, Huffington Post, and Market Watch. And he's been blessed to have worked with many New York Times bestselling authors in multiple genres and topics, like Ted Dekker, Orson Scott Card, Kevin J. Anderson and more. He has also been a paid consultant to major publishing companies, helping with digital sales, advertisement methods and sales page optimisations. On his website, kindlepreneur.com, you can find some fantastic apps, including the Amazon Book Sales Calculator, Book Description Generator, and QR Code Generator. But he's best known as the creator of Publisher Rocket and, now, Atticus. So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesAtticusAtticus Road MapKindlepreneurMacInCloudProWriting Aid *4 The WordsBook BrushPlottrWorld AnvilInterested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel?Want the podcast straight to your inbox?Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP037, How I Edit the Outline of a Novel Before Writing the First Draft
Send us Fan MailSo, you've created an outline for your novel. And now, you're ready to start writing. Diving into writing the first draft seems like the first logical step. However, I recommend you slow down and edit the outline for your novel. I learned this lesson the hard way after publishing my first-in-series novella. To this day, I regret not going back and editing the outline for that novel. There were minor things that were not wrapped up at the end that I believed wrapped up rather subtly, but the reader needed more clarity around them. If I had edited the outline before starting to write the first draft, I would have fixed these issues before they were issues. By the time you get to the revision stage, it's difficult to see all the errors, especially if you're a new writer and you don't have an established team of beta readers or a critique partner who is a little more seasoned than you.So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesTAP036, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a Novel (Part 3)TAP035, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a Novel (Part 2)TAP034, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a Novel (Part 1)Interested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel?Want the podcast straight to your inbox? My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Book Covers) **My BooksMy Short Story, the Lawn | https://dl.bookfunnel.com/wi5nh80cx4The Candidate | https://books2read.com/the-candidateSuspicion | https://books2read.com/suspicionDuplicity | https://books2read.com/duplicity-adhay/The Locked Room | https://books2read.com/locked-roomSupport the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP036, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel (Part 3 of 3)
Send us Fan MailWelcome to the third instalment of my mini-series on how I outline a novel. For those of you who are unaware, in the first episode, I discuss how I go from fleshing out a story idea to a basic outline. In episode TAP035, which is the second instalment in this three-part mini-series on outlining, I focused on sharing the steps in my outlining process that helped me create a structurally sound story with scenes that actively move the story forward. And in this episode, I will share more of those steps, plus a bunch of things that I add to my outline spreadsheet that are purely there to help me outline that I don't necessarily use while writing the first draft. If you haven't listened to episodes TAP034 and TAP035, I highly recommend you pause here and go back and listen to those shows.About this EpisodeThis episode is not scripted because I want it to be a chat about how I outline a novel. In saying that, I have compiled a list of steps and broken down exactly how I outline a story. Each of these steps has a bullet-point list of notes to help me stay on track. I'm sharing this with you so you know that I've thought about this episode in detail.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous Episode TAP034, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a NovelScrivener (MacOS) *Scrivener (Windows) *Interested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel? The Cliffhanger: How to Write a Story Your Readers Can’t Put Down by The Write PracticePlot Gardening by Chris Fox *Support the show by buying me a coffeeWant the podcast straight to your inbox? My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Book Covers) **Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP034, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel (Part 1 of 3)
Send us Fan MailSince 2014, I've written two novellas, one short story, and two full-length novels, three of which I have self-published. One novel is being rewritten because I wanted to change a story device and plot thread. For me, this second storyline was unrealistic and painted the character in an unprofessional light, thus creating a sense of trust with the reader. I needed the character to be seen as trustworthy for the reader. The second full-length novel is waiting for its turn to be published. After I wrote that novel, I realised the story occurred further on in the series. Between 2011 and 2014, I wrote screenplays, then changed to writing novels when I discovered self-publishing.But enough about my writing journey.About this EpisodeIn this episode, I will discuss how I go from a story idea to a fleshed-out outline. I know this is obvious, but this is my process instead of 'the way to outline a novel.' This process has evolved since my very first novel. As I wrote the next story, more steps were added to my intricate outlining approach. After publishing my first novella, in 2020, I added another step to my outlining process, but I will share this in a separate episode because it's a huge step and needs a detailed explanation. So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous Episode Writing a Short StoryUsing Story Cubes and a Massive Tea Haul | BTS Vlog #8TAP002TAP007TAP008EvernoteScrivener (MacOS) *Scrivener (Windows) *Psychology of why people commit murder Psychology of why people commit murder The Making of a Murderer 15 Tips for Writing a Murder MysteryWant the podcast straight to your inbox?Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP033, The Case for Outlining, Outlining Pitfalls, and Overcoming Writing Obstacles
Send us Fan MailBefore I dive into discussing how to outline a novel or the planning phase of writing, I thought it would be best to ask an obvious but nonetheless important question. Is outlining a good idea? Depending upon who you listen to, you will hear conflicting advice. Some authors will say in order to write quicker, you need to ditch the outlining phase. While others abide by the age-old saying, "fail to plan, plan to fail."So which option is best for you?In this episode, I will share the things you need to consider, an important question that you need to ask yourself, a piece of advice that you need to keep in mind, and my recommendations for new writers. On top of this, I talk about the downsides of creating an outline in order to give you a balanced and somewhat unbiased answer to this age-old question.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe Previous Episode Writing into the Dark (Workshop)Writing into the Dark (eBook) *Writing into the Dark (Paperback) *Book Review by AuthorLevel Up on Writing into the Dark: Write a book without an outline! The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (Audiobook) *The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (Paperback) *The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (eBook) *Want the podcast straight to your inbox? My ServicesTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services.Le Villain Book Covers (Affordable Premade Book Covers) **My BooksMy Short Story, the Lawn | https://dl.bookfunnel.com/wi5nh80cx4The Candidate | https://books2read.com/the-candidateSuspicion | https://books2read.com/suspicionDuplicity | https://books2read.com/duplicity-adhay/The Locked Room | https://books2read.com/locked-roomSupport the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

TAP032, How Do You Write Fiction with Michaelbrent Collings
Send us Fan MailUp until now, I've wanted the seasons of this podcast to be evergreen and act as a resource on how to write a particular element of a story. My desire to create short, evergreen episodes focused on a single topic is the reason this podcast tends to be free of interviews. However, throughout season three, I will share short interviews with other writers discussing how they write stories, and in particular, I will try to interview as many writers who "pants" novels. In light of that, in this bonus episode, I chat with Michaelbrent Collings on how he writes his fiction novels. Before we dive into the interview, here is a brief introduction to Michaebrent Collings.About Michaelbrent CollingsWhile he is best known for horror (and is one of the most successful indie horror authors in the world), Michaelbrent Collings has also written internationally-bestselling thriller, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, humour, young adult, and middle-grade works, and romance. In addition to being a bestselling novelist, Michaelbrent has also received critical acclaim: he is the only person who has ever been a finalist for a Bram Stoker Award, a Dragon Award, and a RONE Award, and he and his work have been reviewed and/or featured on everything from Publishers Weekly to Scream Magazine to NPR. An engaging and entertaining speaker, he is also a frequent guest at comic cons and on writing podcasts like Six Figure Authors, The Creative Penn, Writing Excuses, and others. What to Expect From this EpisodeIn this episode, I chat with Michaelbrent about the following topics:Where Michaelbrent gets ideas for his books. How to know whether a horror novel is scar enough for the reader.Characters in horror movies that are too stupid to live.Transitioning from having that initial idea to feeling ready to write the first draft. How much detail Michaelbrent includes in his outlines. The trick of becoming a professional author.Tips on how to tackle writer's block when you're writing the first draft. The trap most authors fall into when writing and measuring success.Dealing with negative reviews.Stores weighing low rating reviews over higher ratings.Writing is quite emotionally taxing. The value of a supportive partner or friends. Thanks for listening, and happy reading and writing, everybody.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesGenre Tropes Cheat SheetMichaelbrent Collings WebsiteSupport the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS044, Revision is Like Pulling Teeth and Working with a Professional Editor
Send us Fan MailRevision is like pulling teeth. Well, that's how it feels to me at the moment. I'm so over revising this story. But at the same time, I feel so insecure about this novella. Long gone is that innocent, naive Amelia, who was excited to publish her first piece of fiction. Perhaps I know better now. Or, more realistically, I'm more cynical. I know what awaits me if I screw up and publish a book with plot holes, however minor. In this behind-the-scenes author diary episode, I discuss the highs and lows of my revision process, what prompted me to move into the professional editing phase and my struggles with writer's insecurity. TAP031, Write a Novel with Genre Expectations in Mind (Part 2 of 2)
Send us Fan MailWelcome to the final instalment of this two-part mini-series on how to write a novel with genre expectations in mind. There's nothing worse than reaching the halfway mark as you write your first draft or even as you're starting the revision stage to realise that you're not sure if there's a market for your book. If this is where you are at, then don't panic; it's quite normal not to know what genre you're writing in as you write or finish your first book. But there's something you can do about it. TAP030, Write a Novel with Genre Expectations in Mind (Part 1 of 2)
Send us Fan MailWriting to market or writing with genre expectations in mind is often seen as a dirty word. And I think there are a few misconceptions, largely to do with confusing the strategy with writing to a trend which is very different. For the sake of clarity, writing to trend is all about writing what's popular. An example of that strategy is writing a paranormal romance feature vampires because they're hot right now; that's writing to trend. By the way, I have no idea whether that's a hot trend, so don't take that as gospel because it's just an example I plucked from my mind a few seconds ago. However, writing with genre expectations in mind is all about writing for your audience. I know you want to write what you love, but just hear me out. As a writer, I get it; you need to love what you write, but you also need to write something that others will enjoy and want to stick around for the long-term. What to ExpectBefore we get into the tips, this episode is the first in a two-part series focused on writing with genre expectations in mind. In this first part, I want to focus on writing with genre expectations in mind for writers who haven't written their first draft and merely have a story idea in mind. This episode will be great for you if you have a story idea or outline and want to write for an existing audience. Send us Fan MailDuring May and June, I experimented with more low-budget book promotions on a 99-cent sale on my first-in-series novella, Missing. Naturally, things didn't go as expected. In this episode, I dive into why I believe my low-budget book promotions went horribly wrong. But before I delve into all of that, I discuss what I achieved in terms of writing and share a milestone that I've hit with writing the Candidate. Plus, I discuss the progress I made with Duplicity. Also, I made an interesting discovery concerning book reviews on Amazon. And I share an update on the new income stream that I've added to my business, as well as some lessons learned.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesThe previous episodeBook AngelAwesome GangBook DoggyJust Kindle BooksBook Runes ***Reddit: Handling foreign language in your fictional writing?Reddit: How do I convey another language in a dialogue section?Blog Post: How to Use Foreign Languages in FictionBlog Post: 5 Ways To Incorporate Multiple Languages Into Your Fantasy NovelStack Exchange: How to Use Foreign Words and Provide Translation in NovelOther Useful LinksTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services **Looking for an affordable premade book cover? **Want the podcast straight to your inbox?Be on the Podcast*** Please note: Book Runes didn't get back to me or communicate with me until the night before the promotion was due to run, chasing paySupport the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS039, Writing Multiple Books at Once, Low Budget Promotions, and Multiple Streams of Income
Send us Fan MailFor some reason, I put off sharing this author diary update because I believed I didn't do that much writing, and I was a little embarrassed. Well, I was partly correct. As I look back over my completed tasks on ToDoist and the notes on my daily writing habit spreadsheet, I realise that my assumption was incorrect. And I did get some writing done during the first four months of the year. But more on that later. I set Missing to free and scheduled various low-budget book promotions during February and March, and I experimented with Facebook Ads with some surprising results. In this show, I share my download statistics, cost per click and click-through rate when these statistics are available. Also, during this period, I started experimenting with multiple streams of income in my author business. I share the things I've tried and the things you need to consider when you're just starting. So stay tuned for all of this and much more. Thank You to These Supporters of the PodcastJ. S. BTS038, Story Origin Newsletter Swaps, Price Matching an eBook on Amazon and Lifting a Preorder Penalty on Amazon
Send us Fan MailThe results of my very first story origin newsletter swap are in, and it's not what I expected. As I cast my mind back, I decided whether I would do another newsletter swap in the future. And I share my biggest lessons learned. In November, I managed to secure another free mystery and thriller eBook promotion on Kobo. Due to this change in price on Kobo, I decided to change the price to free across all other platforms. This led me to send an email to Amazon asking them to price match Missing on their store. And, this request had surprising results. While we're on the topic of Amazon, I finally felt brave enough to ask Amazon to lift the preorder penalty on Duplicity. Just in case you're wondering, yes, I managed to make progress with the revisions for Duplicity. Yay! On top of all of this, I share details on how you can be a guest on the Authorpreneur Podcast. Just as a word of warning in this podcast, I do say the word "merde." It's French for sh#t. BTS037, Writing to Market, Book Formatting Services and Hiring an Alpha Reader on Fiverr
Send us Fan MailAfter much deliberation, I come to terms with my struggles with the notion of whether I should continue to write more books in the James Lalonde series. This leads me to announce that I'm letting myself write another series in a different sub-genre alongside writing the James Lalonde series. I guess the short version of that is I'm writing to market. Yay! In other news, I've had another ah-ha moment about my first book, and that moment has led to another change to my story. It was another one of those decisions I'd been struggling with because I enjoyed writing the book so much. This month, I added an income stream to my author business, and I discuss the steps I took to create the service. While we're on the topic of business-related things, I hired a great alpha reader from the most unlikely of places. So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show NotesEntitled to Murder on my blogEntitled to Murder on WattpadBetaBooksStory OriginTry The Formatting Wizard Book Formatting Services for FREE **The Formatting Templates offered by my services. **Want the podcast straight to your inbox? My BooksMy Short Story, the Lawn | https://dl.bookfunnel.com/wi5nh80cx4The Candidate | https://books2read.com/the-candidateSuspicion | https://books2read.com/suspicionDuplicity | https://books2read.com/duplicity-adhay/The Locked Room | https://books2read.com/locked-room Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

Spoiler alert: I’m happy with my move, and I’m wondering why I didn’t do it earlier. But, the move took some time. In September, I found myself lured in by another mystery and thriller Free Promotion on Kobo. This month, I started experimenting with pre-orders, only to discover some terrible news. My efforts on chase reviews are underway, and I share my thoughts on this activity so far. On top of all of this, I discovered a new beta reading programme that I’m excited about. So stay tuned for all of this and much more. Send us Fan MailThe problem with helpful book marketing suggestions like"get interviewed on podcasts" is no one actually tells you how to create a pitch that will land you an interview. In this bonus episode, I will share three tips and a six-step formula that will help you craft a better pitch and, hopefully, get you a podcast interview. Obviously, I can't make any outlandish claims or promise you'll get interviewed on podcasts. But I can promise to show you how to present yourself to hosts so that they can see the value you can contribute to their show.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes: https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/get-interviewed/CalendlyThe Mystery Novel Nerd PodcastBe on The Mystery Novel Nerd PodcastWant the podcast straight to your inbox? My BooksMy Short Story, the Lawn | https://dl.bookfunnel.com/wi5nh80cx4The Candidate | https://books2read.com/the-candidateSuspicion | https://books2read.com/suspicionDuplicity | https://books2read.com/duplicity-adhay/The Locked Room | https://books2read.com/locked-room Support the showConnect with me on Social MediaDiscord: https://discord.gg/HZX7HZBQUfFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/authorpreneurpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorpreneurpodcast/X: https://twitter.com/writeradhayYouTube: www.youtube.com/c/authorpreneurpodcast/videosGoodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/authoradhay/Merch Store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/WriterADHay/shop* This is a service or product offered by me** My bookish merchandise store

BTS035, Developing a Writing Habit After Months of Struggling
Send us Fan MailI’m super excited to announce that I’ve finally developed a writing habit after months of struggling. And in this episode, I share the tips that I believe helped me to achieve this goal. During August, I started chasing reviews for Missing on the Amazon US store. In terms of writing, I started working with an alpha reader, and I discuss what I’m doing differently this time around. While listening to a podcast, I discovered a new service, Buy Me a Coffee, which is a fun way to tip a creator, and I go into the various ways that I’ve implemented this into my author business.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes: https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/bts035/Book FunnelAuthorsxp.comMailerLite *Buy Me A CoffeeWant the podcast straight to your inbox? BTS034, Struggling to Write Book Two in a Series and the Results of My Free Book Promotion on Kobo
Send us Fan MailJuly was full of surprises. A well-known free ebook platform shared my novella with its audience. And I’m going to share the results of this with you. While we're on the topic of book marketing, I will also discuss the outcome of my free promotion on Kobo. After careful deliberation, I took steps to self-publish my reader magnet on all stores, and I talk about the reasoning behind this decision. As I was publishing my mystery short story, I had a tonne of pricing issues with Apple. The word nightmare is an understatement. Now, on to the writing-related news. In terms of writing, I had a writing epiphany thanks to a YouTube video that led me to make progress with writing Duplicity, which is book two in the James Lalonde series.
