NHL Winning Streak?
In this latest Barn Chirpers Hockey Podcast episode, the hosts delve into the NHL happenings post all-star break. Neither host tuned in for the all-star game or skills competition, pointing out the lack of stakes and interest for avid hockey fans, although acknowledging its purpose for attracting casual viewers. They also discuss the significance of the PWHL showcase and highlight Ella Shelton as a noteworthy figure in the league. Attention is drawn to the ongoing Team Canada 2018 sexual assault case, emphasizing the league's decision to withhold punitive measures and the expected lengthy duration of the legal process. Trade activities are a hot topic with Vancouver's acquisition of Elias Lindholm and Winnipeg Jets' deal involving Sean Monahan, reflecting on broader trade trends in the NHL. Contract signings like Jesse Puljujarvi's with the Penguins stir debate, questioning team strategies and inviting the opportunity to be proven wrong. The excitement builds around the upcoming Four Nations face-off in 2025, leading to speculative drafting of starting lineups for the participating teams, while the PWHL's significant matchups in March are marked for deep-dive coverage in future episodes. The episode rounds out with reflections on the NHL's Winter Classic location announcement, the ticking clock on the Arizona Coyotes, coaching changes for the LA Kings, and the prospect of new talent emerging in the hockey world. #BarnChirpersHockey #FaceOfThePWHL #NHLTradeChatter Timestamps (00:00:03) Podcast Returns Post-Break (00:03:19) Team Canada Case Initial Hearings (00:07:26) Elias Lindholm Trade to Vancouver (00:14:16) Jesse Puljujarvi's Two-Year Pittsburgh Deal (00:18:08) NHL's 2025 Four Nations Tournament (00:24:30) International Squad Lineup Draft (00:32:35) Goaltender Selection (00:36:17) Women's Hockey League Standings (00:39:08) 2025 Winter Classic Venue (00:47:04) LA Kings Coach Dismissal

Unleashing the Potential: How to Transform the NHL All Star Game into a Must-Watch Event
In this episode, Justin and Joe tackle some of the most pressing news and discussions in the world of hockey. They start off by addressing the recent allegations of sexual assault against five players from Team Canada's 2018 World Junior team. While they refrain from speculating, they promise to provide updates as the investigation progresses, shedding light on the facts surrounding the case. Moving on, the duo dives into a conversation about potential improvements to the NHL All-Star game format. They brainstorm ideas like making the 3-on-3 game exclusively for the top All-Stars, incorporating celebrity involvement to generate interest, and expanding the skills competition into a multi-day tournament. These suggestions aim to enhance the excitement and engagement of the event for fans and players alike. Next, Justin and Joe discuss recent player signings in the league. They commend the Philadelphia Flyers for rewarding Owen Tippett with an 8-year deal, acknowledging his stellar performance on the ice. However, they express skepticism about the Colorado Avalanche's decision to sign Zach Parise, an aging player with a history of injuries. The hosts then shift their attention to the struggles of the Ottawa Senators under new coach Jacques Martin. The team's defensive woes, conceding a league-worst average of 4 goals per game, are brought to light. On a brighter note, they celebrate Brock Besser's achievement of reaching 30 goals for the first time with the Vancouver Canucks, proving their initial doubts wrong. Serious topics like player injuries and mental health are also addressed with sensitivity. They discuss Filip Chytil's concussion concerns and send their well wishes for his recovery. Additionally, they talk about the importance of mental health as Senators' Tkachuk and Blue Jackets' Laine seek counseling, highlighting the support needed in the hockey community. The episode takes a positive turn as Justin and Joe discuss the recent management extensions for the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers' impressive 16-game win streak, propelling them up the Pacific Division standings. They even speculate that the Canucks might be the first Canadian team to bring home the Stanley Cup in a long time. To wrap up, Justin and Joe give a sneak peek into the upcoming All-Star weekend events, building anticipation for the exciting festivities that lie ahead. Tune in to this episode for in-depth analysis, thought-provoking discussions, and updates on the latest happenings in the world of hockey.

Early Season Performance Overview: NHL Teams Under the Spotlight
As the NHL season kicks off, the performance of various teams has been a hot topic of discussion. Justin, a dedicated hockey enthusiast, has been closely monitoring the early season performance of teams and players, offering insightful analysis on teams like the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, and Arizona Coyotes. On the other hand, Joe, while acknowledging some concerns, believes it's too early to hit the panic switch, emphasizing the need for teams to find their rhythm and improve before making any drastic judgments. Join Justin and Joe on this episode of the BarnChirpers Hockey Podcast as they delve deeper into the performance overview of various NHL teams early in the season. 00:10:11 - Devils The Devils, or Devs, have had a slow start to the season, which is not surprising given the limited preseason games. Jesper Brat has been a standout player, leading in goals and ranking second in points. Jack Hughes has also been a key contributor, leading in points and assists. However, there are concerns about Timo Meyer's performance, as he leads the team in penalty minutes and has yet to make a significant impact. The team's defensive struggles are evident, with the need for more offensive zone time to relieve pressure on the defense. While the slow start is disappointing, it's important to give the team time to gel and find their groove before panicking. 00:16:07 - Kraken The highly anticipated Seattle Kraken team has been struggling to find their footing on the ice this season. Despite being one of the best road teams last year, they have failed to perform at the same level. One major issue they face is their inability to score goals, currently ranking last in the league. Combined with poor goaltending performances, this has put them in a tough position early in the season. To turn things around, the Kraken need to show more fire and intensity on the ice, as well as find ways to generate more offense. Otherwise, they risk falling behind in the Pacific division. 00:22:31 - Sabres The Buffalo Sabres started the season slowly, losing their home opener to the New York Rangers 5-1. However, they quickly turned things around and secured their first win in overtime against the Tampa Bay Lightning. This victory was a significant achievement, demonstrating their ability to compete against top-tier opponents. Goaltender Levi found his form and performed well in the net. The Sabres' young roster, including Taj Thompson, Dylan Cousins, and Rasmus Dahlin, have been stepping up and reaching their potential. While there is still work to be done, the team is on the right track and has the potential to be the competitive force expected of them. 00:31:04 - Coyotes The Arizona Coyotes have been competitive in every game this season, with close losses to the Islanders and Rangers. Despite only having one win, their losses have been by just one goal. The Coyotes have shown up every game with a solid defensive line and goaltending. While they may not be the top team come January, their strong start and competitiveness make them an exciting team to watch. 00:35:51 - Canucks The Vancouver Canucks have had a surprising start to the season, thanks to standout performances from players like Brock Boeser. In a game against the Edmonton Oilers, Boeser scored an impressive four goals, leading his team to a massive victory. This unexpected performance has proven the doubters wrong, as the Canucks were not considered to have many interesting players before the season. 00:38:08 - Sharks The San Jose Sharks have surprised everyone with their recent performance, particularly in a game against the Colorado Avalanche. Despite being considered a weaker team, the Sharks took the Avalanche to a shootout, a massive achievement. Mackenzie Blackwood, the Sharks' goaltender, made an impressive debut with 51 saves, showcasing his talent and ability to keep the team in the game.
