  5. 58

#57 Black Joy SCOTUS Watch Ft. Andrew Hairston, Esq

The Supreme Court is making awful decisions, and we think you should know so you can do whatever you need to do to be prepared for the fire this time. Anthony Kennedy, if you’re reading this, you really f#$d us! Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, if you are reading this, you’re on our prayer list. Anyway, Jamie Foxx managed to be a terrible comedian and host. Dame Dash proved to be the true supreme in confronting Lee Daniels for doing what Monique been told yall Daniels was doing--not paying what he owes. But all is well for Black Women da Gods and may the Nancy Pelosi's and Permit Patties of the world fail.

  6. 57

#55 My God Wears A Bonnet

The #BlackJoyMixtape is BACK and about to be a big sister! We have a new show for you in partnership with Stitcher Premium coming later this summer! Despite all our hard work and being named Essence's #Woke100, white people haven't gained any self-control. They are calling the police unnecessarily, they are on the eve of a potential world war, and they are adamant about keeping Black mamas in cages this Mama's Day. We won't stand for it! We can free Black Mamas in the DMV by going to bit.ly/Dmvbailout

  8. 55

#54 MeTooRemastered: Be Careful With Us

Amber and Jazmine have been doing the absolute most this month. Not only have they been traveling across the country for work and play, but Jazmine woke up early one morning to conquer evil and it wasn't even Easter yet. This week we talk about how differences in Black liberation practices are showing up in the Movement for Black Lives, why Howard University needs to pay what they owe, and how Black women continue to go first and show us what liberation looks in real life! Remember, just because white have lost it, doesn't mean we have to, Black folks.

  9. 54

    #53 Release Ale Now!

Your favorite news and politics podcast are warriors whose commentary is deeply rooted with the creatives who are daring enough to remind us that we have the right to be here no matter what. They are trying to convince us otherwise. They are liars. Alejandra Pablos, our Sor Ale, has been wrongfully detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She is being held with no bond because the Supreme Court ruled that immigrants who is detained do not have the right to bail. This system is actively working to makes us believe that we nor our immigrant sibling do not deserve dignity. This is a lie. We fight. Learn more about how to support Ale by visiting bit.ly/releaseale

  10. 53

    #52 Jabari Gang Gang

Your fav news and politics podcast #BlackJoyMixtape went to see Black Panther and got inspired to talk about how our communities have Wakanda potential, but white people are really trying to ruin this for us with gentrification, harvest boxes without actual harvests, and compromising our access to clean water and food. But all is not lost, we still prevailed over triflin exes and saw an ill pre screening of Giants. Make sure you follow along using the hashtag, #BlackJoyMixtape. And don't forget to share, rate, follow, and subscribe!

  11. 52

#51 The Year of Fat Black Girls Ft. Sesali Bowen

Your fav news and politics podcast #BlackJoyMixtape back with Volume II! So you know we had to bring back the Baddest Bad Fat Black Girl around, Sesali Bowen to talk the latest headlines surrounding Monique, race & gender wage inequality, and the politics of being fat. But you know we couldn't get into any of that without updating the #BlackJoyJubilee on all the fun and new adventures the High Priestess and KOS have experienced while on break! Make sure you follow along and show love using the hashtag, #BlackJoyMixtape. And don't forget to share, rate, follow, and subscribe!

  12. 51

#50 El Disco de la Alegría Negra Ft. Sor Ale

Last full episode of the year. 2017 was wonderful, absurd, hilarious, and unrelenting. The same can be said about your favorite news and podcast hosts! As Black popular male news hosts crumble, we end by reminding you that we DESERVE more and better options. This time we have our friend, and one half of Brown x Bruja, Sor Alé powerful interview about her experience with immigration and the criminal justice system

  13. 50

#49 Rape Culture: Yes All Men

The Black Joy Mixtape recorded a special report on rape culture on December 2nd. This was prior to the TIME cover release and Amber's latest appearance on Roland Martin. Despite the electric conversations that happened this past week and news of Russell Simmons sexual misconduct, we're still wondering where is the televised State of Hip Hop and Rape Culture round table? We got tired of waiting and released our own. We offer a trigger warning, love, and grace to those who may be sensitive to heavy topics like rape.

  14. 49

    #48 Yo White Friends

We are back from the holiday and we are here to let yall know that all slavery must end and give your lil white friends guidelines on how to be more deserving of yo friendship. Also, don't eat at the White House. They got roaches but got the nerve to disinvite folks to they nasty house.

  15. 48

    #47 Rate Follow Subscribe Damnit

Rate, follow, and subscibe to your favorite news and politics podcast on iTunes.

  16. 47

    #46 Sean Carter 2020

Amber and Jazmine recorded this week's show on Election Day in a much better mental space than this time last year! Black women and returning citizens who had their voting rights restored overcame the many complications and let downs of the democratic party to keep voting no on White Supremacy across the country! Jay Z took his Facebook for a spin to speak out against the slavery cartel's treatment of Meek Mill and Donna Brazile showed us that she too is a god.

  17. 46

    #45 Reproductive Justice Now

Your favorite news and politics podcast has to take time to talk about how our rights to our own bodies are being violated through policy and are maintained by the people with the most power are enacting terror on our communities. We demand the end of all sexual violence and coercion. Everyone must stand up against those who misappropriate and abuse their power at every level. We encourage you to support your local strippers especially protest.

  18. 45

#44 Black Joy Anniversary Ft. Malaya

The High Priestess of Black Joy and Da King of the South celebrate The Black Joy Mixtape turning 1 with a special feature from your favorite witch, Malaya Lynch! We wanted to remain in a celebratory mood so we didn't do headlines and just focused on the politics of love, initimacy and relationships as cuffing season kicks into full swing.

  19. 44

    #43 Black Joy Service Announcement

We're only here to cover who we truly care about: Oprah, Beyoncé, and dope Black woman owned comic book stores. Refusing to protect journalists, healthcare, freedom of speech, protest, or anything that upholds our basic human rights are detriments to Black Joy and a waste of this ill studio connect. But as news and politics PODCASTERS, we cover it all. Get you a fav podcast that can do both.

  20. 43

    #42 BAPS Remix

Yo fav news and politics podcast just got back from Werk It Podcast Festival and Let's Talk About Sex Conferences! Our absence didn't help white people gain any self-control to make sure that Puerto Rico gets the aid, resources, and proper infrastructure it deserves. Institutions like the NFL and NBA have refused to perpetuate a culture that celebrates the human right to protest. Instead, they have chosen to embrace a more authoritarian approach that increases punishment, stigma, and coercion in the name of "patriotism." We at The Black Joy Mixtape vow to protect Black femmes and exhaust their divinity so that we can make a safer world for ourselves and our siblings like Terry Crews. No tired Dove ads nor ESPN suspensions formed against us shall prosper.

  21. 42

#41 Honey Joy Ft. Kyrisha Deschamps

Kyrisha, the birther and creator of HoneyGroove joined us for the ill recap and origins of the trailblazing music festival that centers queer people and artists of color. TedxRVA still aint put out our talk yet. We will release Track 40 when they do. Tweet them, about it in the meantime!

  22. 41

    #39.5 Still Loading...

Amber's sick with wyt-suprenza (causes inflammation, fatigue, oppression in the chest) but we still here bringing you, your favorite news and politics podcast is delivering the news just the way it should be reported in an era of Black Joy...Track #40 on the way.

  23. 40

    #39 Joyful Ft. Hannah

The number one underground news and politics podcast!

  24. 39

    #38 Black Without Borders

Its unoficially the last weekend of Summer and your favorite news and politics podcast covers everything from the infrasturcture needed to help people displaced by Hurricane Harvey to undocumented people's detention and systemic displacement. White supremacy comtinues base building. Tomi Lohren even has been given the opportunity to make primetime. Meanwhile, Black people are finding Black Joy by time traveling across millenia just to show they still the baddest at AfroPunk. More of that, less uncontrollable white people. That's how we'll win.

  25. 38

    #37 Black Joy Eclipse

The solar eclipse has us shedding fake ass Confederate legacies, anti-Black demons, and prison & criminal justice systems. We hope to call in Cardi B's first number 1 on billboard, thriving Black futures, and monuments for all the greats ranging from yo mama to Missy Elliott.

  26. 37

    #36 Fire And Fury

White people have no self-control. Our calendar had the High Priestess of Black Joy and Da King of the South on Sunday, recording less than 24 hours after white peril and destruction descended onto Charlottesville, VA for the 2nd time in 6 weeks. And the ACLU saw fit to let us know they not only support such terrorism but demand it continue to be protected as "free speech." We at The Black Joy Mixtape had time this week to define global white terrorism, explain why white supremacy at its root can't actually protect all white people, and give Black people a reading list that encourages them to continue to fight and defend themselves.

  27. 36

    #35 Stand With Tariq

Black Joy Mixtape will bring Fire & Fury to anyone who shame fat Black women, affirm the actiions of racists rather than those who protest them, and jeporadize the well-being of all Black children.

  28. 35

    #34 Da Realest News

Wow. Your favorite news between avoiding suspicious packages and being lemonades, the high priestess & king are just trying to survive the week. The president of toothless America or the cis Black isn't giving us much to work with though. Trans folks are not jokes but we have a few for the Cool Colorblind crew...and white folks too.

  29. 34

    #33 Standards Ft. Morgan Givens

Look Alive! Trans people are not a burden, but Rick Ross' sexism definitely is. The same week that Janet Mock made an appearance on The Breakfast Club to affirm the existence of trans people within the hip hop communities, president 9 announced via Twitter that trans people are banned from serving in the military. We talk with DC storyteller & former cop, Morgan Givens to discuss the realities of trans healthcare, love, & the necessity and possibility of honoring the full humanity of trans Black people.

  30. 33

    #32 Untitled

We learned something from Mariah Carey this week. So, major takeaways: Trust Black Women. Make R. Kelly a hidden figure. The Cool Colored Colorblind had Mike Vick's probate. The president of toothless Americans is spending a lot of tax dollars on himself & wants to spend nothing on American people. Look Alive!

  31. 32

    #31 We Deserve

SIR CARTER & RUMI ARE A MONTH OLD!!! That means white folks and cis Black men are a month overdue for getting themselves together. This week showed little signs of progress because: Jeff Sessions lying at DARE Conferences to create propaganda to fuel the 2017 war on drugs; there are still a bunch of lies about 9 & his people's involvement with Russia, white presidents have the nerve to talk down about Africa; Black trans women are not safe or properly cared for in prisons; and a lot of Black men are more invested in upholding white supremacy than supporting Black women like Blac Chyna--like us, like Recy Taylor, like Eyricka King. Umar Johnson will never have the answers...or a school.

  32. 31

    #30 4:45

We're back and EVERYTHING IS IN SHAKA! Your fav Petty Black Feminists and Tedx alum came back to revenge porn, fragile masculinity, and this person claiming to be president is requesting too much information about voters. At least we also came back to 4:44, a fund by Remy Ma to expand reproductive access, 2 Chainz Trap Clinic, and the #BlackJoyJubilee!

  33. 30

    #29 Proud

We are going on Summer Break! We will return 7/7/17! But we couldn't leave without releasing a previously recorded interview where the High Priestess and Da King of the South ask each other questions about being creators and overcoming themselves and the world to manifest their creations. This week's intro: Happy Pride Month! TS Madison "She Got a D*ck"

  34. 29

#28 White People Make Awful Presidents

Look Alive! White people have completely lost It! They managed to poison waterways, harass and murder people of color, assault and arrest journalists, and had the audacity to leave a noose in the Blacksonian. This week was ABSURD! Rihanna better hurry up with this makeup line. If 9 is going to melt more ice caps, we may as well have a sickening lip.

  35. 28

#27 An Ode To Dinka Nash Ft. Malaya

Malaya’s back! So you know we had to give yall another dope jam to step to after “Put a Flower Crown on It!” It’s #CreatorsMonth so it’s only right that we learn about and honor the Black woman responsible for populating the earth, Dinka Nash (F#$% a Lucy!) And you know it’s gon be lit because dis here is a Notep Free Zone! Malaya even waxes about the literal magic that Beyonce’s twins represent! This track was recorded earlier in the week, but 9 & nem wasted no time to started to represent their legacy of controless-ness. Michael Flynn refused a Senate subpoena, the humanities don’t exist in 9’s impossible budget, and the people of Yemen are on the verge of extension from preventable things like war and cholera… But Solange is creating and stomping out odes to us. And there might be some famous Black twins dropping with the moon in Gemini. This is for us. Because Dinka declared it so.

  36. 27

#26 Teen Mamas are Mamas Ft. Gloria Malone

#LookAlive! Thanks so much for the #BlackJoyJubilee and Sesali Bowen for an amazing Refinery29 experience! We got back from NYC, and white people have just been in peril. From brawls at graduation to brawls with Turkey's Presidential security, Amber and Jaz are just left with a lot of questions. Thankfully, our 3rd installment of #CreatorsMonth features the phenomenal @GloriaMalone! She talks about #NoTeenShame, being an Afro-Latina, and her proudest moments being a teen mom.

  37. 26

#25 If You're Reading This, God Is A Black Mother Ft. Jenn Stowe

The Black Joy Mixtape eased on down to Southeast DC to talk to and celebrate one of the trillest Black mamas we know, Jenn Stowe! Before we get to the radical parenting theory and practice of honoring Black single mothers, we had to update everyone on the latest happenings of The Apprentice: White House Edition. The FBI Director, the one with zero credibility, James Comey now has zero job. Even though we knew this investigation on Russia was a fluke (because the agency accountable to the president), 9 ain’t like that people were still talking about it, so Comey had to go. Jimmy ain’t the only one updating his linkedin profile this week. The U.S. Census Bureau Director, John Thompson is stepping down because he's trying to make the 2020 census happen with a budget that can only cover a couple hundred tally marks and rubber bands. Thankfully, The Twins are letting y’all know that they’re on their way to become your future grandchildren’s faves by dramatically changing their legendary mother, Beyoncé. Beyoncé’s rep Yvette Noel-Schure won't let you disrespect Beyonce about their appearance or any other pregnant person for that matter. Jenn talks about surprises during her pregnancy, how to respect mothers, and how to create communities for mothers.

  38. 25

#24 An Abortion Story Ft. Micha'le

Jaz Da KOS Walker and Amber J. Phillips the High Priestess of Black Joy are away from the mic this week being bosses and taking care of life. White people completely lost self-control and voted away our health care so we're sharing a super special previously recorded show featuring our friend Micha'le who shares her abortion story with us after stopping by Black Joy Headquarters for a home cooked meal and girl talk. 1 in 3 women will have an abortion in her lifetime and we all love someone who has had an abortion. Enjoy this special episode featuring one story of many from our dear friend who we love fiercely.

  39. 24

    #23 Nappy Hair Love

We’ve had almost 100 days of 9’s nonsense and what we know for sure is the Black Twitter has managed to get 2 ads pulled in less than a month. We wish the country was that efficient when it came to our government since we’re still dealing with the terrible budget, tax cut, and healthcare proposals that will harm the majority of us. But Black women are still fighting and shifting this system. We still demand reparations for what’s been taken from us! We demand for Shea Moisture to put some respeck on Black women’s hair. And we demand the criminal justice system to get rid of the money bail system! Black women are well on their way with the telling of the Henrietta Lacks and her family’s story and National Mama’s Bail Out Day this Mother’s Day of action!

  40. 23

#22 Welcome To Spring, Fat Girl!

According to data presented by Frank Ocean's mother on "Blonde", when people become weedheads, they become sluggish, lazy, stupid and unconcerned.....so we gave yall a full show of fire political commentary, worship to Black women creating humans, and a contest to give 10 listeners a chance to see us live at Refinery 29! Happy 420!

  41. 22

#21 The Natural Order Of Black Joy

This week's headlines are TRASH. From Contradictory headlines, overbooked flights, bombs, and Black men who just won't let Black women live, literally and figuratively, we are just happy that Janet Jackson got a half a billion dollars for saying "No."

  42. 21

    #20 Be Boastful

Black women and femmes. Be Boastful. Be Proud. Do whatever in tf you want. I mean why not? Our White House is a weekly episode of the Apprentice as 9's administration changes rules and roll back democracy. Black Joy is a lifestyle. Kendrick Lamar and Trina's ex, do better.

  43. 20

    #19 Bring Back Black Joy

EVERY BLACK GIRL & FEMME DESERVES PROTECTION & SAFETY NO MATTER WHAT! And police intervention nor continuing to make false claims about their decisions without meaningfully consulting them don't give them the agency and resources to make decisions that ensure their full safety. 9's administration continues to do nothing but roll back the lives and existence of err'body. His homies tried to silence and shame auntie Maxine Waters and April Ryan. We also pulled out flutes from high school band for some Black girl genius for the #MaskOff challenge. We even attempt to give terrible relationship advice because one of yall asked...Black Joy Fo'eva even when it's hard sometimes.

  44. 19

    #18 Black Joy Equinox

Look Alive! BLACK JOY MIXTAPE IS BACK! We gave news & politics 2 weeks and all it could do was prop Tomi Lohren as the great reproductive rights hope, 9 proposing to cut 62 agencies, Secretary Rex Tillerson being unsure about how long America & China can remain cordial, and ask Chimamanda about her misguided ass thoughts about trans women. NO! Black women still prevail as da gods though! #ATLOrgy only had who should have participated with a spread of condoms, lubes, and dental damns from Dekalb County Health Department! We remain hopeful with new aspirations for our Black Futures vision boards because there are rivers in the world who are honored as people! Let's celebrate on April 17th at Smith's Public Trust in DC when we host The River Kings Tour concert!

  45. 18

    #17 The Winner Is...Black Joy

Over 100 HBCU presidents and Black male political correspondents decided to protect their interests rather than continuing the resistance that Black women started when 94% of them said "no to 9". Thankfully, the people are assembling and running for public office to make sure democracy is protected and actually represents our interests. Mayoral Candidate, Chokwe Antar Lumumba of Jackson, Mississippi made a special appeal on the Black Joy Mixtape for why a people's agenda and our communities matter. And you know we had to talk "Shether!"

  46. 17

#16 Black Girl Magic Ft. Malaya The Hood Witch

We wrap Black History Month 2017 with Malaya the Hood Witch and we remind you that Trans People are Real. There are 500+ empty position in our ever shrinking government, but Black women are here to collect their coins, your talking points, and some misconceptions about witches. Tell your paranoid cousin not to make no damn illuminati video about us, we don't know WF he is talking about! There may be a new viral rap song on this track as well! Enjoy!

  47. 16

#15 Petty Winnin' Steady Ft. TT The Artist

Lights! Flynn, and The Grammys gettin fired! White people continue to have no self control but Beyonce, Oprah, Anthony Anderson’s Mom, and TT the Artist remind us that Black Joy cometh in the mornin'! Listen as Amber and Jaz interview TT the Artist about her club bangerz, being an indie artist, and her multi-level genius.

  48. 15

    #14 Afro-Latinx People Are Real

Jaz da KOS is officially back in Black Joy HQ! This episode Amber and Jaz catch up on all things Black Joy from mamas making closets out of their childhood rooms to refusing to let anyone come for Beyonce. White people's president manages to get his whole team through confirmations, their legislative branch dismantled the only agency that protects us from voter fraud, and George Lopez just couldn't accept that Black women owed him NOTHING, especially not a laugh.

  49. 14

    #13 Love God Herself

It was NOT a drill! Beyonce announces her biggest project yet and we're thrilled! Now listen as two Black women talk about Beyonce, the latest oppressive shit coming out of Donald's pen, our global refugee crisis, Black people impacted by the holocaust, Jessica Williams beating back white feminism, and how BET is about to ruin Being Mary Jane....since some of yall think niggas are distracted! Tuh!

  50. 13

#12 53% Voted Against Black Joy

Da King of da Souf's time in Puerto Rico is almost OVER. The High Priestess of Black Joy is hanging on by a thread in Washington D.C. as Donald kicks off his first week over achieving at making White Supremacy the law of the land. White women stormed DC to attend their President's Inauguration and then hang out with their friends at the Women's March. Black women are tired but holding it down....per usual.
