the-breakdown.net - Lontano album launch with Anthony Dettori and Roz Pappalardo

Lontano is an Italian term meaning "far away". It's also the name of a long-distance collaboration between songwriters Anthony Dettori and Roz Pappalardo, who share Italian-Australian heritage and a love of spacious, earthy, alt-country storytelling.Lontano's approach melds different perspectives to unearth surprising new musical narratives, not completely autobiographical, but not fictional either - and always tethered to a shared insight about the physics of the human condition. And it's proving to be a highly productive partnership, with two successful albums and an unexpected recent QMA win under their belt.On this episode of The Breakdown, ahead of the launch of Lontano's third album 'Love without hard lines' (June 20 at The Cave Inn), I catch up with Anthony and Roz, to find out how it all began, how it works, and what the future holds...

the-breakdown.net with Costa Zouliou - Dom Mariani

Late Last year Dom Mariani released his second solo record called Apple of Life. Dom was the driving force behind 80’s garage rock band The Stems with songs like Sad Girl and At First Sight and later in the 90’s he formed DM3, you might remember power pop tracks like, Foolish and 1 Time, 2 Times Devastated and Melt Away from The Someloves before that. If you can remember any of those tracks and I’m sure you can, Dom Mariani’s  latest album Apple of Life will be a rewarding listen. And keep an ear out for a tour and new album from The Stems later in 2026. Check out the link in the comments for our chat about Dom Mariani’s latest solo album, Apple of Life, The Stems and even a bit of Creedence Clearwater Revival, hint: which version of I heard it Through the Grapevine did you hear first, Marvin Gaye’s or CCR’s?

the-breakdown.net with Costa Zouliou - Buzz Bidstrup

Buzz Bidstrup first came to national attention as the drummer for one of Australia’s most prominent and most important bands, The Angels. The classic lineup of Buzz on drums the late Chris Bailey on bass, Rick Brewster on lead guitar, John Brewster on rhythm guitar and the one and only Bernard Doc Neeson on vocals were seldom bettered in the beer barns of the 70’s and 80’s all over Australia. He’s played drums for The Angels, Jimmy Barnes, Jimmy Little, The Party Boys  and still plays, along with his wife Kay in GANGgajang, and he’s either produced or engineered Mondo Rock, Australian Crawl, Richard Clapton, and even Tiny Tim to name but a few. He’s an ARIA Hall of Fame member and continues to work in other ventures such as the "Thumbs up!" nutrition education program, the Good Tucker App.Buzz was kind enough to talk to me about his book ‘No Secrets, An Oz-Rock Memoir of Music and Mayhem on the-breakdown.net while he was in Uluru celebrating the 40th anniversary of the hand back of the Rock.
