    Josh Begins (4x11: First Responders)

This week Han, Cil, and Rachel celebrate our favorite Josh storyline in Season 4 Episode 11 of 9-1-1, "First Responders,”, flashing back fifteen years to see how a freelance stenographer became L.A.'s best dispatcher.Josh gets his origin story and we explore what makes him so perfectly built for dispatch, and the journey he went on to discover that. We also break down Buckapedia Buck rolling out first responder facts and somehow landing on the galaxy brained "9-1-WUH" theory.Hen and Athena have one of the most important conversations of the season. We trace how it echoes back to the "Rage" pullover and discuss Athena calling out how differently the police would treat the case she was on if it was a missing white woman.May drops the bomb that she wants her own apartment, and we unpack Athena fighting every parental instinct not to hold on too tightly for fear of becoming her mother, Beatrice. We love growth! Finally we dissect the parallel between Eddie's date with Ana and Buck's lunch with Taylor, both of them using these women to help someone they actually care about instead of really seeing them.📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 Parallels Between Eddie and Athena – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1… 🚨(00:00:52) Welcome to Dispatch(00:02:46) 4x11 “First Responders” Review(00:12:04) Jaws of Life – Deep Dive(00:20:34) Narrative Echoes – Parallels, Callbacks, and Foreshadowing(00:29:30) Flashover – Episode Themes(00:35:07) Josh – From SexyBack to Saving Lives(00:50:03) Josh Learns to Be Somebody’s Sue 🥹(01:04:14) Athena – Fighting Her Instincts While Internally Screaming(01:17:53) Buck – Buckapedia Won’t Sit This One Out(01:27:15) Buck & Taylor – Can They Actually Just Be Friends?(01:40:24) Slow Burn – Sorry, the Partner Position Has Already Been Filled 👀(01:56:07) Take a Buddie With You & Outro

    Never Grow Up (4x10: Parenthood)

“And even though you want toJust try to never grow up”This week Han, Cil, and Rachel feel the growing pains as three different families experience the epic highs and lows of loving their children in Season 4 Episode 10 of 9-1-1, “Parenthood.” Hen, Karen, and Denny say goodbye to Nia, May fights with Athena over making nice with her high school bully, and Chimney and Maddie are ships passing in the night as they learn how to raise their newborn baby Jee-Yun… and Albert. We dive into our thoughts on the episode ranging from, “oh my god can we get a break on the crying” to “is there a reason Buck and Eddie’s love interests are always so underdeveloped?” But underneath our many opinions, this episode delivers some incredible character work, starting with Hen and Karen. Our girls have big hearts and love fully, which is why it’s so hard to watch them let go of Nia and struggle over potentially fostering again. We explore the way they both process this and communicate, highlighting what makes Hen and Karen so special as both partners and parents. Find out why we’re on Athena’s side in this round of mother-daughter fighting, and how both she and May make huge strides towards understanding each other better, which only grows with time leading to one of our favorite moments in Season 9.Chimney and Maddie are sleep deprived, just like us for real, but making the most of this special time with their daughter. Unfortunately, Chim sticks his foot directly in his mouth when he accidentally implies that Mrs. Lee is a stranger to Jee-Yun. We discuss the difference between “it takes a village” for Maddie and Dispatch and Chimney and the 118 and how Madney finally lean on their found family at the end. Finally, we dissect what it means when two best dude bros co-parent so hard they accidentally start finishing each other's disciplinary sentences, and why their synchronized “NO!” to “can’t you both be good cop?” might be the most married thing either of them has said all season.Episode title inspired by ‘Never Grow Up” by Taylor Swift📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 How Little Buck & Eddie’s Love Interests Are Developed – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 '9-1-1' and 'Lone Star' Showrunner on What's Next for Bobby and Owen's Teams, by Jennifer Maas for The WrapWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1… 🚨(00:00:53) Welcome to Dispatch(00:02:12) 4x10 “Parenthood” Review(00:23:23) Jaws of Life – Production Deep Dive(00:30:44) Narrative Echoes – Parallels, Callbacks, and Foreshadowing(00:39:48) Flashover – Episode Themes(00:48:06) Hen & Karen – Heartbroken But Still Openhearted(01:03:10) Athena & May – Seeing the Person Behind the Parent(01:16:23) May Hears Athena at Her Most Vulnerable(01:25:47) Maddie & Chimney – Running On Empty and Everything! To Build a Home (4x09 Blindsided)

“When the gusts came around to blow me downHeld on as tightly as you held onto me”Han, Cil, and Rachel are a wreck over Season 4 Episode 9 of 9-1-1, “Blindsided.” Hen and Karen are going through the unimaginable, Bobby and Athena continue their failure to communicate, and Maddie and Chimney are waiting for a special delivery.Hen and Karen seem to be on different pages when they find out their foster daughter, Nia, will be going back to live with her birth mother. We discuss Hen’s big emotions and thirst for vigilante justice in a circumstance where there’s no place for it, Karen barely holding it together, and how a tense and emotional conversation gets them back in sync.Bobby is triggered at a mass casualty pile-up caused by a drunk driver, where his wife and Hen make a few comments that unintentionally twist the knife. We take a look at how Bobby isolating himself in the aftermath leads to this growing rift between him and Athena the rest of the season.Maddie is ready to pop and Chimney, husband-of-all-time, is more than prepared. After several false alarms, the time has finally come and Madney have a new baby girl! But, plot twist, Uncle Albert’s life is hanging in the balance. We explore how much Chimney has grown since season one to not only be someone who goes after what he wants, but someone who believes in the universe to deliver him a perfect baby girl and a brother who survives a car crash in the same night. Tears were shed many times in this very moving episode, but Kenny Choi’s watery eyes of emotional mass destruction are the biggest culprit. We also dive into a couple parallels between Buck and Eddie’s future storylines together and the couple’s journeys in this episode. Busy Woman (4x08: Breaking Point)

“I'm so mature, collected and sensible, except when I get hit with rejectionTo turn me down, well, that's just unethical, I'll turn into someone you're scared to know”Han, Cil, and Rachel break down the many breakdowns in Season 4 Episode 8 of 9-1-1, “Breaking Point,” including: Hen and Karen finding out their foster daughter Nia will be reunited with her biological mother, Maddie and Chimney’s birth plan getting a COVID shakeup, Buck continuing to spiral over his bad date with Veronica, and the fallout of Christopher finding out his former teacher Ana is tutoring — we mean dating — Eddie. We talk about how the Hen, Karen, Maddie, and Chimney storylines really set up their arcs for the next episode. Everyone is going through it in this one, but the themes of family and control for Henren and Madney are a rather serious juxtaposition to the self-imposed unseriousness of performative dating for Buck and Eddie.Buck is crashing out to anyone who will listen about Veronica’s rejection and her continued presence in his life via Albert dating her. Unfortunately he doesn’t listen to The Universe or Taylor Kelly telling him his life is full of meaningful relationships, and instead uses Taylor in the world’s most awkward ambush double-date. We grab a shovel and dig through the mess that is Buck’s thought process, since apparently Dr. Copleand isn’t going to.Meanwhile, Eddie is backing himself into a corner by speed-running a relationship, even though he didn’t get someone teenage pregnant this time! Chris breaks a salad bowl (RIP) and runs to Buck for comfort when he learns his dad might bring another person into his life that he might get attached to and lose. We dissect the subconscious decision-making that starts in this episode, setting up Eddie’s whole relationship with Ana — his kid loves her, but he doesn’t. Woof. Then we take a long, hard, look at the married behavior of Buck taking care of Chris while Eddie’s out, welcoming him home like a good house husband, and why their “normal friend behavior” looks a little different and sparse whenever they get into romantic relationships. We explore the concept of what The Universe is trying to teach both Buck and Eddie in their individual journeys, how they’re both ignoring the lessons, and how if they listened instead of following the whims of their traumas and emotional repression it would lead them straight (lol) to each other.Episode title inspired by “Busy Woman” by Sabrina Carpenter📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 The Buck & Eddie Conversation That Could Have Been, After Chris Ran Away to Buck – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 '9-1-1': A 'Significant' Shock for Hen's Family, the 118 Romances and More, by Meredith Jacobs for TV Insider📰 9-1-1 Boss On Hen's Heartbreak, Buck's Breakthrough And More In Winter Finale - TVLine, by Andy Swift for TV LineWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1… 🚨(00:00:54) Welcome to Dispatch(00:02:48) 4x08 “Breaking Point” Review(00:08:48) Taylor Kelly – Reporter Instincts with a Surprisingly Soft Center(00:14:11) Jaws of Life – Production Deep Dive(00:22:14) Needle Drop – Music Analysis(00:23:51) Narrative Echoes – Parallels, Foreshadowing & Callbacks(00:29:59) Flashover – Episode Themes(00:37:16) Hen & Karen – The Hope Before the Heartbreak(00:45:35) Maddie & Chimney – Mutual Spiraling, God-Tier Communication(00:56:53) Buck – Making His Rejection Sensitivity Everyone’s Problem(01:11:29) Romance Won’t Fix This, Buck(01:26:45) Buck & Christopher – “People Leave and We Miss Them”(01:36:31) Eddie – Relationship Status: Sure, I Guess?(01:45:53) Christopher May Like Ana, But Does Eddie?(02:03:17) Slow Burn – Buck’s Place in the Diaz Family(02:19:46) Forcing Romance, But Missing the Signs(02:32:30) Outro & Take a Buddie With You!

Sympathy is a knife (4x07: There Goes the Neighborhood)

“I don't wanna share the space, I don't wanna force a smileThis one girl taps my insecurities, don't know if it's real or if I'm spiraling”Hen Wilson's estranged mother shows up with zero warning, Buck Buckley has the worst first date of his life, and Michael Grant decides breaking and entering is a completely reasonable way to spend a Tuesday in 9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 7, "There Goes the Neighborhood.” Han, Cil, and Rachel break down Hen and Toni's long-overdue heart-to-heart, pull every receipt on Buck's sudden reappearance on the dating apps, and uncover what it means that Eddie Diaz is still living rent-free in his head even on a date with someone else.We dig into Hen’s relationship with her mother, from Toni showing up out of nowhere to the conversation where she finally tells Hen how proud of her she actually is. We talk through why Hen kept mistaking her mother's worry for judgment, what Toni was really protecting by having that private conversation with Karen first, and how this whole arc lands as the exact opposite of the crash-out Buck just had with his own parents in "Buck Begins."Bobby and David get roped into Michael's neighborhood-watch delusions, and it is somehow both the funniest and the most reckless thing Michael has ever done, up to and including the part where he breaks into a stranger's apartment alone, unarmed, less than a year removed from brain cancer we’re still not entirely sure is gone. Then we suffer through Buck's date with Veronica, which goes so badly he ends up debriefing Albert, Eddie, Maddie, and Chimney about it, all while insisting she was the problem. We clock the specific story he chose to open with: the poop call from "Fools," which was the call where Buck ribs Eddie about yelling at Christopher's teacher Ana. Buck had an entire career's worth of firefighter stories to pick from, and the one he reaches for on a first date is the one that's secretly about Eddie. We’re so sure.We clock the pattern of the Buddie Bad Omens Timeline: Eddie goes on one date with Ana, and almost immediately Buck is back on the apps. We're not calling it a coincidence, we're calling it an Ouroboros. We also trace it back to the cold open, where Eddie gets his ass slapped on a call while literally sealed inside a hazmat suit, his safe bubble away from people who want something from him, breached anyway. Buck's safe space has always been Eddie and Eddie's house, and once Eddie's dating again, someone (Ana) is encroaching on his bubble too. Buck is not consciously aware, but we notice that the moment Eddie starts dating someone else, the role Buck has within the Diaz family dynamic gets filled by Eddie’s girlfriend. And Buck is always left reeling without knowing why.“'Cause I couldn't even be her if I tried, I'm opposite, I'm on the other sideI feel all these feelings I can't control, oh no, don't know why all this sympathy is just a knife”Episode title inspired by “Sympathy is a knife” by Charli xcx📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 What Do Eddie’s Neighbors Think is Going On with Buck & Eddie? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1… 🚨(00:00:53) Welcome to Dispatch(00:03:02) Our 4x07 “There Goes the Neighborhood” Review(00:10:27) Jaws of Life – Deep Dive(00:13:37) Needle Drop – Music Analysis(00:14:42) Buckapedia & Narrative Echoes(00:18:59) Flashover – Episode Themes(00:29:39) Hen & Karen – Translating Toni’s Unconditional Love, Questionable Delivery(00:44:32) Michael – Life on Hold, Telescope On 🔭👀(00:59:33) Buck – Who Am I? Isn’t It Ironic (4x06: Jinx)

“Well, life has a funny way of sneakin' up on youWhen you think everything's okay and everything's goin' right”The 118's new probie, Ravi, says the forbidden Q-word (quiet) and brings a curse down on the whole team in 9-1-1 Season 4, Episode 6, "Jinx." Han, Cil, and Rachel break down Bobby's terrible relationship advice, dissect Buck and Eddie's subconscious need to enter relationships at the same time, and catalogue exactly how much comp-het it takes to get Eddie Diaz to date a woman. We have a few nice things to say about our beloved peepaw, Bobby, before roasting him alive for another round of The Worst Advice Ever™. Projection might as well be Bobby's middle name at this point, and we clock it right alongside his habit of doling out advice without bothering to check where Eddie's head is actually at.We lose it over Eddie insisting he doesn't worry about things he can't control — seconds before a live power pole traps him inside the engine — genuinely one of the funniest things he's ever said. We also can't get over how his vehemently unsuperstitious streak sounds exactly like how he talks about religion (they're both giving repression.)Then we clown Bobby, Buck, Hen, and Chimney for peer-pressuring Eddie into a date with Ana Flores without ever asking him what he wants — they've all just decided his anxiety means he like-likes her. We break down the full comp-het pileup: the book club interrogation with the emotional support water bottle in hand, Eddie calling Buck a traitor for reading a book about women (and implying Eddie likes one), and the loaded "the universe is screaming at you and you refuse to listen" — a line that has nothing to do with the actual jinx and everything to do with the elephant in the room.Eddie picks the bad-luck episode to start dating someone new — and their very first date ends with the two of them jinxing each other. We're sure this isn't an omen dooming their whole relationship.“Isn’t it ironic? You’re On Your Own Kid (4x05: Buck Begins)

“From sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes, I gave my blood, sweat, and tears for this”This week Han, Cil, and Rachel make the friendship bracelets, take the moment (or several hours) and wade into the psychological depths of Season 4 Episode 5 of 9-1-1, “Buck Begins.”We dive deep into one of the most demented, genius character origin stories the show has ever pulled off, unpacking the reveal that Buck was born a savior baby for his late brother Daniel and just how much of Buck's entire personality traces back to it. We bring the receipts too — actual psychology and medical research on emotional neglect, abandonment, and complex PTSD, because apparently every source out there studied Evan Buckley without knowing it. And of course, we drag Margaret and Philip Buckley through the mud for their station visit, because "we're proud of you for saving people like you were born to do" does not count as an apology! From there we follow Buck cross country, breaking down every job on his postcard tour (mixologist, ranch hand, aspiring Navy SEAL, we catalog all of it), Maddie's gut punch of a goodbye note, and how a guy at a bar in Peru saying "you go, we go" somehow rerouted Buck's entire life to L.A. We also get into Athena's one scene this episode doing more parenting in thirty seconds than the Buckleys managed in thirty years! Then there's Eddie, quietly rearranging his entire understanding of Buck in real time. We go on a real tangent about the Village People being extremely queer coded, and connect the dots between Margaret's "you think you're indestructible" and a certain someone telling Buck he's "not expendable" nine episodes later. He's also the first one to reach Buck in that fire, obviously, because nobody gets between these two being there for each other first.“You're on your own, kid. Yeah, you can face this. You're on your own, kid. Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? (4x04: 9-1-1, What’s Your Grievance?)

"I wanna snarl and show you just how disturbed this has made meYou wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me"This week Han, Cil, and Rachel RSVP to the family dinner from hell as we tackle Season 4 Episode 4, "9-1-1, What's Your Grievance?"Chimney gets handed a secret that’s more of a ticking time-bomb, Maddie invites Margaret and Philip to town for reasons that perplex both Buck and us, and Buck shows up armed with de-escalation techniques from therapy. Because apparently seeing his own parents requires hostage negotiation prep. We break down the famous “Love Me Anyway” scene, the score's literal ticking clock underneath Buck's meltdown, and why we think this episode does the real emotional heavy lifting to set up “Buck Begins.” We also dig into Maddie's blind spot for the Buckley parents, the one perfect big-sister moment she gives Buck right before everything blows up again, and Chimney's full-body conflict-avoidant spiral trying to keep a secret that he doesn’t even think should be kept. At least he got to diffuse one bomb in this episode, amirite?Rachel dives into the loaded Cagney & Lacey reference Athena makes about Buck and Eddie. Plus we clock in for a full married behavior audit: Eddie is the only one who saw and understood Buck without knowing the childhood trauma, he memorized Buck’s calendar and routines including emergency therapy sessions, and other totally normal best friend things. Then we give a play-by-play of every emotion Buck is punching in the gym scene while Eddie steadily validates, supports, and grounds him. The Lone Star Crossover with 911TVNEWS

Han, Cil, and Rachel go on a road trip with 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 2, Episode 3, "Hold the Line," the crossover event where the 118 crosses paths with the 126 during a wildfire tearing through Texas! Our buddie Trent from 911TVNEWS joins us to help break down the world of 9-1-1: Lone Star and how it treats our familiar visitors Buck, Eddie, and Hen once they're dropped into it.Trent gives us the full download on why Lone Star has always operated like 9-1-1's edgier younger sibling, and we get into how the wildfire splits the two crews up: Eddie, Judd, Marjan and Paul on one team, Buck, TK and Mateo on another, and Hen and Owen stuck waiting out the fire together in an old trauma-filled mine, and what each pairing ends up revealing about the characters from both shows. Then Han, Cil, and Rachel spend the back third of the episode doing what we do best: cataloguing every second Eddie spends talking Buck up to a woman he just met, tracking exactly where Buck's own eyes keep wandering, and adding yet another entry to the ever-growing Eddie Diaz queer coding file — because apparently no show is safe from it, not even someone else's.A big shout-out to Trent for joining us for another ADHD-filled round of 9-1-1 chaos! If you’re living under a rock and aren’t following Trent, fix that! Eddie Diaz's Terminal Case of Comp-Het (Pride Rewind)

🏳️‍🌈 Pride Month Rewind | Originally released January 8, 2026It’s fine, it’s cool, Eddie can tell a priest “I’m straight,” but we know the truth. This week Han, Cil, and Rachel take a thorough look at Eddie Diaz’s dating history with our rainbow glasses to spot the complex layers of queer coding!Eddie famously says, “I hate being forced to date, feels like I have to perform,” in Season 6 Episode 14 of 9-1-1, “Performance Anxiety.” Buck and Hen are not the only people who raised their eyebrows at that statement, and luckily for you we do have time to unpack all that!If you look up compulsory heterosexuality (comp-het) in the dictionary, you’ll see a picture of Eddie Diaz trying to pick up women at a golf course. This episode may sound like an Eddie Diaz roast, but we’re just reporting the news. This just in, Eddie cannot get it up (romantically) for women, and we’ve connected all the dots from his dating history in this episode to show you why.Think of it as a heterosexual post-mortem on why his relationships with Shannon, Ana, Marisol, and Kim failed spectacularly. You can kiss the clone of your dead ex-wifeDate a former nun, let her catch you cheatingYou can say that you choose this lifeBreak a new heart, another comp-het victimWell, good luck, Eddie!📔 Articles & References🫂 What If Eddie Had Dated Tommy? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 Ryan Guzman Reacts to the '9-1-1' Season 7 Finale's Biggest Twists, Collider📰 ‘9-1-1’ star Ryan Guzman reflects on Eddie’s journey leading up to Season 9 in exclusive interview, YardBarker🎞️ Take a Chance on Me, edit bu hedwiglitz on TwitterWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Intro(00:00:30) Queer Coding, Demisexuality, and CompHet(00:03:32) Eddie Performing with Shannon(00:24:45) Bobby's Role in the CompHettery(00:30:27) Eddie Performing with Ana(00:52:10) Performance Anxiety(00:58:46) The Date with Vanessa(01:09:12) Eddie Performing with Marisol(01:32:11) Eddie's 7x05 Performance(01:38:11) Eddie's Performance with Kim(01:47:08) Outro & Take A Buddie With You

Han, Cil, and Rachel are back in Buck Buckley's brain for Pride Month, and it is not pretty in here. Buck can't sleep in his best friend's house, accidentally admits he has feelings for Eddie mid-argument, and spends an entire episode insisting there is absolutely nothing to see here. We’re clocking every accidental confession, suspicious deflection, and "he's straight, therefore I’m not in love with him" for our own enjoyment, and yours.Featuring the morning after, the scoff heard round the world, and Maddie knowing since season two. The Buddie Explainer: Everything You Need to Know About Buck & Eddie

Two years ago our timelines were full of a firefighter kissing another man, coming out as bisexual in his 7th season on the show. Our interests were piqued, we binged 6-and-a-half seasons, fell in love with the show and all its characters, then tripped and fell into a podcast. We have no regrets, and we're here to guide you down the 9-1-1 rabbit hole towards the ship of all ships: Buddie. What's a Buddie? Well, that's what this episode is all about. Our 100th to be exact! And we are called The Buddie System, so naturally, we're celebrating this milestone by talking about our namesake: Buck and Eddie. In the most unhinged season-by-season TLDR (it's still kind of long, but we did the reading for you) breakdown of the biggest and best moments between firefighters and best friends Evan "Buck" Buckley played by Oliver Stark and Eddie Diaz played by Ryan Guzman. It's more than a little crazy when you put all the events together but it involves several natural disasters, shootings, kidnappings, practically raising a kid together, going through several rather short divorced eras, and having one of their exes call the other "the competition." Yes, really, we can't make this up.After the highlight reel we hand the mic to the people actually making the show — and what they have to say is kind of wild. The quotes speak for themselves, there's never been a queer fan ship that got treated like this by the actors and showrunner, we're in genuinely unprecedented territory. What's any present without a bow? We're wrapping yours up with why Buck and Eddie going canon would be one of the most meaningful, groundbreaking love stories ever told — for the characters, for queer representation, and for anyone who has ever had to learn they were allowed to want something. Whether this is your 1st episode with us or your 100th, we'd like to thank you for tuning into our yapathon about these characters, this love story, and being our buddies. We Were Born to Die (Season 9 Episode 18)

"Don't make me sad, don't make me cry. Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough, I don't know why."Han, Cil, and Rachel close out Season 9 with episode 18, "Hearts and Flowers" — the finale where the 118 splits off into pairs, Eddie Diaz gets stabbed for talking shit in a hospital chapel (God answered, it wasn't great), and Buck becomes a foster dad after a birthday party where an 18-year-old Harry says something that hits different when you're the only adult in the room without a kid.We talk about why this season ranks among our favorites — the connective tissue, the found family reestablishment, the writing consistency across 18 episodes that held like it knew exactly where it was going the whole time — and what we wish had landed differently, including one very specific coma dream that should have featured a different white man. They know. We break down the ensemble character moments, celebrate Chimney surviving his first team NDE as captain, and give Ryan Guzman every flower we have for what he brought to that elevator sequence. It has gone quintuple platinum in our heads and we have seen it more times than we've seen our own families. Then we trace Eddie's religious arc coming full circle — chapel, blade, closet-coded elevator, Pietà — follow the Hays Code queer coding pipeline, and confirm academically that getting stabbed is extremely gay of them. Unrepression checklist items: checked. We revisit the nine o'clock symbolism, map the season parallels, and get into what Tim, Oliver, and Ryan keep saying about season 10 and what it means for the Buckley-Diaz family, version 2.0.The 118 means family. Family means nobody gets left behind. Not even the guy bleeding out in the elevator."The road is long, we carry on, try to have fun in the meantime."Episode title inspired by “Born to Die” by Lana Del Rey📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂What If Someone Was in the Elevator with Eddie? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 9x18 Behind the Scenes for "Educational Purposes”, 911onABC on Twitter and Instagram📰 ‘9-1-1’ Boss Tim Minear Teases Season 10, Talks Buck And Theo, Detective Athena, And More, by Nicole Gallucci with Decider📰 Interview: Oliver Stark Discusses Season Nine of '9-1-1' and Buck's Life-Changing Storyline, by Sophia Soto with Awards Radar📰 Eddie’s Through Line Being a Light in the Darkness, _118problems on TwitterWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1…(00:01:00) Welcome to Dispatch 🚨(00:01:48) 9x18 “Hearts and Flowers” Review(00:05:55) Three Cheers for Eddie in That Elevator 👏🏼(00:15:23) What Could Have Worked Differently?(00:26:52) How Can We Give Eddie Satisfying Season Arcs?(00:37:35) Reflecting on Season 9 as a Whole(00:43:59) Athena – Off the Hamster Wheel(00:46:12) Harry – Feeling Helpless, Taking Action(00:47:25) May & Ravi – Built for the Pressure(00:50:12) Maddie & Josh – Crisis Management, Buckley Style(00:52:14) Hen – Steady Hands, Steady Heart(00:54:03) Chimney – Holding the Weight of the Team(00:56:12) Buck – Ready or Not, Here Comes Fatherhood(00:58:07) Eddie – Looking for God, Finding a Knife(01:00:55) Queer Eddiemaxxing(01:04:37) Eddie Can’t Take His Own “Chain of Command” Advice(01:07:32) The Elevator is a Closet(01:10:44) The Homoeroticism of Getting Stabbed(01:12:54) Eddie’s Religious Queer Coding(01:21:35) Buddiemaxxing(01:23:54) Red String of Buddie NDEs (Parallels & Symbolism)(01:29:29) Tia Pepa Said “That’s Family”(01:33:53) Everything Keeps Coming Full Circle – Season Parallels(01:36:44) Looking Towards Season 10 – What’s Next 🔮(01:40:15) Our Wi$h Li$t(01:43:40) Military Eddie, We’re Looking at You 👀(01:49:33) Season 10 Character Summoning Circle 🤞🏼(01:53:37) Will We See an Eddie & Theo Opening Emergency?(01:56:28) Enter: The Buckley-Diaz Sitcom Era(02:00:14) Buddie System Community Bulletin Board 📌(02:02:28) Take a Buddie With You & Outro!

The Buddie Elephant in the Room at Rescueverse NJ

Han was going to drive up to New Jersey RescueVerse con on Saturday, get the Core Four op, hang out, and drive home. That is not what happened. Cil decided to go as well less than a month out and a day turned into a weekend. Then a week before the con when the meet and greet auctions were closing, Rachel's terminal case of FOMO had her buying a plane ticket as well. So there we all were on Saturday morning, and everyone, including Oliver Stark, had some things to say about that.Since we already did the full how-to in our RescueVerse Con Survival Guide, this one is pure story time. We get into the photo op chaos (the Mother's Boy diner scene recreation, the Silver Star, the Core Four, and yes, the comically large elephant), some loving constructive scheduling feedback for Creation, and what it looks like when Oliver, Ryan, Kenny, and Aisha are having the time of their lives and are very vocal about it.And remember if you’re going to Nashville RescueVerse, come find us!📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 Our Autograph Stories From RescueVerse Chicago – Check out our Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 Creation Entertainment, Official RescueVerse Convention website📺 RescueVerse NJ 2026: 9-1-1 Panel with Ryan Guzman, Oliver Stark Part 1, ReelTVTalk on YouTube📺 RescueVerse NJ 2026: 9-1-1 Panel with Ryan Guzman, Oliver Stark Part 2, ReelTVTalk on YouTubeWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters (00:00:00) We Weren’t Supposed to Be Here…(00:03:53) The Saturday Night Stunt Show(00:05:30) Scheduling ConCrit(00:11:03) 9-1-1 Cast Were Vibing at RescueVerse NJ 🙌🏼(00:13:02) Story Time! – Oliver Solo Photo Ops(00:21:51) A Preview of Our Super Secret Buddie Op 🤫(00:29:10) “Eddie Has a Silver Star”(00:32:01) Recreating the “Mother’s Boy” Diner Scene(00:35:08) The Buddie Elephant Was in the Room with Us(00:42:23) Rachel is 2 Apples Tall(00:45:29) Cil’s Squish Hug That Wasn't(00:49:56) Kenny Choi, the People’s Princess(00:53:00) Core 4 – That’s Our Family 🥹(00:57:08) Aisha, Queen of Our Hearts(01:01:51) But First, Lemme Take a Selfie(01:03:37) We ❤️ Our Con Buddies(01:10:39) The Real Reason We Went to NJ (01:13:41) Outro & Take a Buddie With You (to RescueVerse)!

Turn and Face the Strange (Season 9 Episode 17)

"Time may change me, but I can't trace time"Han, Cil, and Rachel do our best Maury impression for Season 9, Episode 17 — "I Got You Babe" — in which one Evan Buckley is confronted with a Disney protagonist origin story, dead parents and all. You are NOT the father! Except, kind of, it's complicated. We get into the full episode review this week — why the Buck and Theo storyline is earning its place, how Eddie and Hen converging in a hospital hallway to try and keep people from slipping through the cracks is the show at its best, and why Athena's cliffhanger had us rewinding multiple times as we had war flashbacks. We also talk about the Maddie subplot, what it was going for, where it landed on rewatch, and why the Eddie, Hen, and Athena storyline deserved more time and breathing room than it got. And because Han posted a take on Twitter and the discourse found her, we take some time to make the genuine case for why this storyline is worth your patience before you write it off. Then we get to Eddie, who has been doing something very specific all season. This episode is where Cil's ongoing thread comes together about his frustration with how every institution, every system, every structure fails the people he's made promises to — from Theo and the migrants to Abigail. Last but certainly not least we talk through what Theo's arrival means for the Buckley-Diaz family dynamic this show has never been subtle about constructing since season 2.Grab your toy robot and take our hand — we're walking you through a world of changes."Turn and face the strange — ch-ch-changes — don't tell them to grow up and out of it"Episode title inspired by "Changes" as performed by David BowieEpisode title inspired by "Changes" as performed by David Bowie📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂Connor & Kameron Were Always Weird About Buck – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 9-1-1 Cast Talks the End of Season 9 and Wishes for Next Season, Whitney Evans with TV Fanatic🐤 Cil’s “Eddie Losing His Faith in Institutionalized Systems” Thread, stellar_cil on Twitter📖 Courtship Behaviors of the Southern Coastal Husbro, by Mad_Lori on Archive of Our Own🎬 Sign of the Times Buddie edit, by imgonnagetubuck on Twitter🎞️ Split Screen 9x17 & 2x17 Parallel, by bluegreytan on Twitter🎧 Oliver Stark of 9-1-1, I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDarioWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1…(00:00:58) Welcome to Dispatch 🚨(00:01:40) 9x17 “I Got You Babe” Review(00:26:27) Eddie Wasn’t Supposed to Be Here?!(00:30:02) Was This the Right Time for Maddie’s Storyline?(00:38:03) Um, Actually ☝🏼(00:39:09) Um, Actually “It’s Bioessentialism”(00:41:51) Um, Actually “It Was Cruel to Kill Connor & Kameron”(00:48:34) Um, Actually “It Doesn’t Move Buck Forward”(00:51:29) Um, Actually “It’s Not Realistic”(00:54:56) Um, Actually “It’s On the Nose or Shoehorned In”(01:02:59) Supernatural Parallels (Yes, Again 😅)(01:06:38) Athena – Trusting Crooked Cops and Taking a Bullet for It(01:08:38) Maddie – Drawing the Line: Boss, Not Peer(01:10:24) Hen – Fully in Her Advocate Era(01:11:36) Chimney – The Speech Buck Needed to Hear(01:13:36) Buck – Confronted With Theo and What He Thought He Couldn’t Be(01:17:44) Eddie – Showing Up, and Not Leaving Anyone Behind (01:20:49) Queer Eddiemaxxing(01:23:21) Eddie Protecting Buck at the Bridge Crash(01:24:42) Hen Sees Right Through Eddie About Buck(01:27:01) Buddiemaxxing(01:29:38) “I Got You Babe” – Buck Hands Theo to Eddie(01:32:15) Shannon, 2x17, and History Repeating(01:35:47) Buck Protecting Theo (Tsunami Parallel)(01:37:02) The White Striped Shirt of Doom Returns(01:38:57) That 9x07 Call Was Foreshadowing?!(01:41:36) All Roads Lead Back to “Stuck” (2x04)(01:52:22) Connor, Kameron… And That Throuple Energy(01:57:47) Season 9 Finale – Where This is Going 🔮(02:05:59) Eddie NDE (What We’ve Been Waiting For)(02:10:40) Buck & Theo – The Start of Something Bigger?(02:22:25) Our Wi$h Li$t (02:38:37) Take a Buddie with You & Outro!

Eddie Diaz Denies Himself Joy (Juice & Sweets Theory Revisited)

A priest watched Eddie Diaz pick up a juice box, put it back down, and said, “My gay brother in Christ.” We have never recovered and neither has Eddie, frankly.Han, Cil, and Rachel present: a revisit of our completely unserious, extremely serious, Season 8 forensic examination of everything single thing Eddie Diaz has or has not put in his mouth. And we do mean everything. The man sucked on a ring pop right in front of Buck Buckley while maintaining direct eye contact… mind you Buck’s almost ex-boyfriend was watching this happen in 4k. He shoved an entire scone in his mouth to hide his move to El Paso, and get those baked goods while the getting’s good amiright? There was allegedly a glazed donut in a deleted scene and we definitely have some thoughts about that. Helena Diaz cornered a grown man in a parking lot about his groceries and it somehow explains his entire personality. We picked up every crumb from Season 8 and then Season 9 came out and handed us dozens of cookies and we are choosing to perceive that as a personal gift. This episode contains: juice, ring pops, scones, crumpets, protein cookies, one glazed donut we'll never fully see, and more repressed yearning per square inch than should be legally allowed in a network procedural.Bring a cookie with you, you’re going to be hungry.📔 References Mentioned🫂Can Buck Actually Bake? – Check out our Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!🐤 Behind the Scenes Photos On the Set of 8x05 Masks, rguzmanHQ on TwitterWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Intro(00:01:15) Welcome to the Juice Bar(00:02:05) What’s on the Menu - Juice Theory 101(00:04:44) Fruit Leather & Cupcakes - 8x01(00:10:08) Ring Pop & Glazed Donut - 8x05(00:22:03) Juice, Water, & Joy - 8x06(00:27:47) Buck’s Baking Spiral Commences - 8x07(00:31:53) Protein Chocolate Chip Cookies - 8x10(00:36:17) El Paso Coffee & Energy Drinks - 8x12(00:40:36) Helena Diaz’s Sugar-Free Groceries - 8x13(00:47:28) The Last Hurrah’s Crumpet - 8x16(00:53:09) Avoidance Coffee & Tia Pepa’s Cooking - 8x17(00:58:12) Just Desserts - Juice Theory Beyond Season 8(01:02:31) Take a Buddie With You & Outro

Scott & Kip Married at First Sight: Heated Rivalry Episode 3

Season 1 Episode 3 of Heated Rivalry, “Hunter” is the Skip episode, but you will not be skipping it, sit down and respect your queer hockey elders!Han, Cil, Rachel, and Niki are here to walk you through Scott Hunter's gay little disaster of an episode where we have a lot of thoughts, zero restraint, and one bone to pick with an art gallery that did not deliver. We dig into why Scott and Kip are freak for freak, crazy for crazy, and U-Hauling at a speed that would give the rest of us the ick — except the show makes you believe it, which is a magic trick we fully break down. We also get into the serial killer conversation that somehow passed for flirting, why Maria is our in-universe fujoshi and we love her for it, baby’s (Shane Hollander’s) first chirp, the grown (not actually) 45-year-old man it spiritually destabilized, and the heartbreaking symbolism of covering up your gay ass socks. We get into the ongoing fandom debate about whether Scott and Kip were still dating during those three years (one of us has a thesis) plus how this episode is doing something genuinely important: cracking open queer conversations with straight audiences who feel it but don't fully get it yet.Come for the rom-com, stay for the yearning, and ugly cry with us and Scott at the window.📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 Eddie Diaz and Ilya Rozanov Parallels – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!💦🐤 Our Reaction to Heated Rivalry’s Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams Read Thirst Tweets – Patreon Exclusive!📰 Heated Rivalry Cast & Crew Press, thoroughly compiled by _mika60_ on Twitter 🫶🏼📰 'Heated Rivalry': What Happened Between Scott and Kip Off-Screen Before Episode 5? With a Little Help From My Friends (Season 9 Episode 16)

"What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and walk out on me? Lend me your ears, then I'll sing you a song, I will try not to sing out of key."Han, Cil, and Rachel put on our Sherlock Holmes hats for 9-1-1 Season 9, Episode 16, "Where There's Smoke," in which the 118 goes full Scooby Gang to clear Chimney's name, a review board uses every questionable call his team has made this past year as ammunition against his captaincy, and Eddie Diaz is literally a light in the darkness, a thread we trace all the way back through Día de los Muertos. We explore why this episode is doing something genuinely different with its direction — the shaky handheld mob sequences, the extreme closeups that make you feel like you're being let in on the secret, the kitchen brainstorm where the camera moves the way your eyes actually would in a conversation — and why the ensemble structure here is a perfect foil to "Mother's Boy." Same cinematic ambition, completely opposite genre. Where 9x13 was a two-person thriller, this one is a mystery with the whole found family playing detective, and it works because everyone has a role, everyone shows up, and the whole thing is threaded through with the same core idea: we do this because we love you, not because we owe you. We also get into the red herring of Sam the people-pleaser and why dispatch becoming the Avengers compound for one episode was everything we didn't know we needed. Then naturally, we talk about Eddie and unpack the marigold theory in full — why Eddie being the first face the migrants see lands with the specific symbolic weight it does when you put it in conversation with Día de los Muertos, Abuela's monologue, and what a marigold actually means as a beacon. We document the married behavior on full display in the Diaz family kitchen, which Buck and Eddie appear to be co-hosting as though that is simply the arrangement now. We track what "did Cap say when Buck's coming back" reveals about where Eddie is emotionally, pull the thread on why he's the only one we see eating Buck's baked goods, and draw the through line from Eddie’s "not everything" line in the season 2 finale, all the way to a Pyrex full of milk at breakfast. We close out with our theories for the final two episodes of the season — what the titles might be telling us, where we think this is all heading for Eddie, and why safe/sane clowning is the only responsible way to get through the final stretch of this season. So, grab a cookie, pull up a chair in the dispatch war room, and celebrate the 118 finally all being in the same room solving a mystery together with us!"I get by with a little help from my friends. All I need is my buddies..."Episode title inspired by "With a Little Help from My Friends" as performed by Joe Cocker📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂Buck’s Continued Recovery – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 Oliver Stark Talks Season 9 of 9-1-1 and How Buck Will “Make Bobby Proud” – INTERVIEW, by Sophia Soto for Nerdtropolis❤️🌻 Eddie interpretation of “Hearts and Flowers”, by mandi on TwitterWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1…(00:00:53) Welcome to Dispatch 🚨(00:01:44) 9x16 “Where There's Smoke” Review(00:08:12) Direction & Cinematography Praise(00:14:17) Por Que No Eddie Hablo Espanol?(00:20:51) A Smorgasbord of Parallels & Callbacks(00:40:54) Athena – Serving Motherly Support(00:41:41) Harry & May – Part of the Team(00:43:40) Ravi – Fully Integrated in the 118 Family(00:44:24) Maddie – No Repayment Necessary(00:46:26) Hen – Judgy McJudgerson At Her Best(00:47:40) Chimney – #1 Dad and #1 Captain FOR REAL(00:49:08) Buck – Assembling the Gayvengers(00:52:31) Eddie – The Light in the Darkness(00:56:41) Queer Eddiemaxxing(01:05:26) Breaking Buddie News – Codependent Husbands(01:10:50) Buddie Forecast 🌤️(01:15:10) I Got You Babe?? – What’s Next 🔮(01:20:00) Bridge Emergency Theories(01:30:12) Calm Down About Sperm Donor Baby Plz(01:35:14) 4x14 Reversal Feelings Realization Theory(01:40:36) Hearts & Flowers – Eddie Interpretation(01:47:09) Your Theory… Is Just a Theory It’s Not Canon(01:53:11) Wi$h Li$t(01:56:30) Outro & Take a Buddie With You!

I’ll Call Your Mom (Season 9 Episodes 14-15)

"Stayed on the line with you the entire night, 'til you let it out and let it in"Han, Cil, and Rachel are white knuckling their way through Season 9, Episode 14, "DIY," and Episode 15, "Pick Your Poison" — the two-episode arc where Buck's grief stops being quiet, the 118 shows up in every way that matters, and Eddie Diaz plays host at someone else's house like a man who has never once considered that this might be a little bit married of him.We explore why this storyline works specifically because of who Buck is — neurodiverse, self-aware enough to know something is wrong, but not quite there on what to do about it. We make sure to give Oliver Stark and his performance across both episodes all the flowers he deserves and every Buddie System award we can hand out.We document the intricate mating habits of the most coupled uncouple on television, breaking down the proxy argument playing out in stereo between an engaged couple… and Buddie. We get into Eddie hunting Buck down about a missed therapy appointment like a “nagging” wife, what it means that he's the one sitting still right next to Buck while everyone else moves in and out of the frame, and why across both of these episodes it's Eddie — not Maddie — who is Buck's primary support system, even if neither of them is ready to acknowledge or unpack that. We also dig into where Eddie is emotionally right now, why he's in his happiest era staying single and hanging out with the boys, and the cards Buck is holding during his game with Christopher that briefly sent 9-1-1 Twitter into full forensic investigation mode.If you want someone to sit with you in the wreckage of these two episodes and walk through exactly why the Buck and Eddie of it all is moving in a very interesting direction — we've got you."Don't let this darkness fool you, all lights turned off can be turned on”Episode title inspired by "Call Your Mom" by Noah Kahan📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂Can Buck Actually Bake? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!🔍 The cards lwky spell out Eddie’s name, @ Callie1294842 on Twitter🎞️ 9-1-1 RescueVerse Chicago Panel, PheonixFire_RN on YouTubeWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1…(00:00:57) Welcome to Dispatch 🚨(00:01:26) 9x14 “D.I.Y” Review(00:07:55) 9x15 “Pick Your Poison” Review(00:28:27) Athena – On the Case(00:31:46) May – Not a Nepo Baby(00:36:04) Harry – Big Little Brother Energy(00:38:20) Ravi – Respecting the Bro Code A Little Too Hard(00:42:34) Maddie – Head Boss in Charge(00:44:56) Chimney – Coming into His Captaincy(00:52:30) Buck – This is Him Trying, Be Nice to Him 🥺(00:57:52) Eddie – Showing Up & Not Letting Buck Carry It Alone(01:00:52) Queer Eddiemaxxing(01:20:57) Buddiemaxxing(01:24:28) Buddie: Married, Your Honor(01:29:35) Buck’s Person is Eddie (01:38:53) The Patterns Are Patterning – Parallels & Symbolism(01:48:34) Eddie Doesn’t Need to Roleplay with Buck(01:53:07) Did Buddie Heal the 8x17 Rift?(01:58:03) Buddie Forecast - Sunny with a Chance of Gay 🌤️(02:04:26) Does Eddie Know What He’s Feeling?(02:11:05) Gay Eddie Endgame… This Season?(02:16:31) What’s Next 🔮(02:22:20) A Request from Kenny, Ryan, and Oliver(02:25:45) Wi$h Li$t (02:30:29) Outro & Take a Buddie With You!

Stop Calling Buddie Queerbait: How 9-1-1 & Network TV Actually Work

Have you been doom scrolling 9-1-1 Twitter wondering why Buddie isn't canon yet? Put the phone down. We did the homework so you don't have to.Han, Cil, and Rachel are joined by Alexa Donne — YA thriller author, TV industry distribution professional, and 9-1-1 obsessed Buddie Truther — to break down exactly how broadcast network television works and why understanding it will make you a much calmer, happier Buddie fan. You're welcome! We dissect the fundamentals: the big four networks, how advertising actually drives creative decisions, and why the live+7 streaming numbers and key demographic data are what actually keep this show on the air — not your IMDB rating. We explore the very important difference between what the suits care about and what fandom THINKS the suits care about — and spoiler, they are not the same.We get into the “Will They Won't They” math from Bones to Castle, including episode counts and timelines. We break it all down and by the end of it you will understand exactly where Buddie sits on the spectrum of iconic procedural slow burns — a reason to trust the process rather than abandon ship.We also explore what it actually means that 9-1-1 is laying the groundwork for Gay Eddie and canon Buddie — not just for the show, but for queer representation on network television at large. This isn't just a ship, this is potentially groundbreaking television, and the people making it are crafting these stories with intention and care.Which brings us to the moral of the story: the man who has been making network television since 1995, got his show saved and moved to a new network where he immediately got a bisexual storyline ON SCREEN, called himself a Buddie fan in the Washington Post, and described us as one of his lifelines — that man knows exactly what he wants the endgame to be. Tim Minear’s taking the scenic route, waiting to make it happen when the time and narrative is right, and as any good showrunner knows, that's the smartest play on network TV. Sit back, enjoy the ride through the country, and take a Buddie with you.Special thanks again to Alexa for being our guide into the world of network TV! Are We Out of The Woods Yet? (Season 9 Episode 13)

"We were built to fall apart, then fall back together"Han, Cil, and Rachel are taking the scenic route through 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 13, "Mother's Boy" – an episode Tim Minear wrote himself, and the one that takes Buck and Eddie out of LA, drops them in Nowhere Town USA, and lets them be each other's person in the most Supernatural-coded way this show has ever attempted. We were not remotely prepared. This episode is cinema and we mean that literally. We explore why the production is doing so much narrative heavy lifting this week – from the score, to the cinematography, to the editing choices that keep Buck and Eddie in sync even when they're miles apart. Jonathan Lawrence and PJ Russ built something that feels genuinely different from anything else this show has ever done and we get into exactly why it works so well. Then we take a look at the character work, which is where this episode really lives. We dive into Buck's spiral – including the Shakespeare in the Diner crash out – what he's actually communicating when he decides to sacrifice himself, and the specific psychology of a man who has been told his whole life that people leave. We also take a magnifying glass to the homophobia in this episode in depth – because it is not subtle and neither is Eddie's reaction to it. Why does he take it so personally? Why is he the one starting a fight when everything this season has shown us that's not who he is anymore? We dig into why Eddie's reaction to both instances tells us something he hasn't said out loud yet.Oh, and the night this episode aired, a TVLine interview dropped where Tim Minear named The Buddie System as “one of his lifelines.” We saw our name in print, lost our minds on main, and naturally had to address it because how could we not. Big night for insufferable people. Huge. For Buddie, we explore why this episode is a pivotal chapter in a story that is very clearly building toward something. We look at the editing, the sacrifices, the gravity of two people who cannot stay mad at each other no matter what. We break down what all of it means for where this season is heading and why this episode feels like a turning point. If you've been waiting all season for a Buddie episode that does something with everything the show has been laying down, if you need someone to sit with you in the wreckage of this road trip and explain why the chaos is actually the point, or if you just want to hear three people work through their Supernatural-induced emotional damage via 9-1-1 analysis — hit play! Buddie Neva Play About Each Other (Season 9 Crossover Double Feature)

"I can't help that I'm that girl, they be talkin', I don't care / Beefin' with yourself because you do not exist in my world"Han, Cil, and Rachel are saddling up for a Nashville crossover that somehow manages to be both firefighter games chaos and a surprisingly important chapter in Buck’s emotional arc. 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 12, “Dads and Cads,” and 9-1-1: Nashville Season 1 Episode 12, “Spirit of the Games” deliver competitive nonsense, father wounds, and Bobby Nash continuing to fujo from beyond the grave.Buck’s parents show up to announce their divorce and create one of the most emotionally effective Buck scenes the show has given us in years when Philip Buckley asks him to talk about Bobby. Meanwhile in Nashville, Buck copes with absolutely none of this by becoming a clipboard-wielding menace at the firefighter games, running the competition like it’s the Navy while Eddie would simply like to eat hot chicken, visit a honky-tonk, and maybe experience the city like a normal person. We get into Buck’s competitive spiral at the firefighter games and why the episode frames it as something much deeper than a personality quirk. The harder Buck pushes himself to win, the clearer it becomes that the games are the one thing he can control right now, which makes the entire rivalry with the Nashville crew land as both hilarious and completely in character. We also dig into the reveal that Bobby signed Buck and Eddie up for the firefighter games before he died. Once you place that detail in the timeline — with Eddie still in El Paso — the crossover starts to feel less like a random competition episode and more like something Bobby set in motion because he believed those two would find their way back to each other. And then we break down the Buddie of it all, which ends up doing some serious narrative heavy lifting across the two episodes. We talk about Eddie clocking Buck’s spiral almost immediately after finding out about the divorce, the way he tries to encourage him to open up, and then the lengths he goes to try and get Buck to let loose and have a good time. From Eddie trying to get Buck to relax in Spirit of the Games to the moment that immediately went triple platinum in fandom — Eddie absolutely flooring it at Blue the second he puts hands on Buck — the crossover makes it very clear that Eddie is the one person in the room who understands exactly what Buck is doing when he starts spinning out. We also get into the way Buck subconsciously echoes Eddie’s words across the two episodes and how those beats reinforce just how locked-in the Buckley-Diaz family dynamic has become.Buck’s conversation with Maddie in Dads and Cads, where he says that families find their way home — even if they have to fight like hell to get there — ends up laying the thematic groundwork that carries into the Nashville crossover (and probably 9x13). The Buckley divorce storyline runs an interesting parallel to everything Buck and Eddie still aren’t saying to each other this season after their fight in season 8, and once you start pulling on those threads the firefighter games stop feeling like a one-off detour and start looking like another stop in a much longer Buddie Road Trip™️."Three things I don't play about, myself, my money, or my man / Mention one of them and best believe I'm gon' be at your head"Episode title inspired by “Neva Play” by Megan Thee Stallion 📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 Interview: ‘9-1-1’ Star Ryan Guzman on the ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Crossover and Eddie’s Driving Force, Awards RadarWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters (00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1…(00:01:06) Welcome to Dispatch 🚨(00:02:13) Our 9x12 “Dads and Cads” Review(00:08:04) What Could Have Worked Better? hope ur ok (Season 9 Episodes 10-11)

"Abigail's parents cared more about the bible than being good to their own child"This week, Han, Cil, and Rachel are covering 9-1-1 Season 9 Episodes 10 ("Handle With Care") and 11 ("Going Once, Going Twice") — a two-parter that had us experience the whole range of human emotions, separated by a four-week hiatus that sent us into full red-string mode, and worth every second of the wait.Chimney is freaking out about Harry's first shift, haunted by the ghost of captains past, until Hen shows up with wine and a much-needed reality check. Harry saves Chim’s life, earns a toilet to scrub, and Bobby's knife gets passed down in a scene that cut our hearts into little pieces (the blade is sharp.) Eddie spends two episodes being the only person willing to see Abigail clearly — testifying for her, bringing her to the 118, continually advocating for her — while the psychological professional and cop around him are busy filling in the blanks with the single white female trope, without much evidence. Then there's the auction, where Buck shows up as himself — baker, uncle, man who has fully stopped apologizing for who he is — and beats Buck 1.0’s record by a whole dollar thanks to the Stitch & Bitch widows. Meanwhile, Eddie, is hiding in his makeshift closet (it’s a coat rack guys, like seriously, come on) getting Maddie to bid on him for HIMSELF, and coughs up $2,500 of his own hard earned cash, because he’s worth it! And he’s seriously over the idea of performing on dates with women. We dig into Eddie's unrepression checklist, the parallel journeys of Eddie and Abigail, and why this storyline is so personal for Eddie — the queer coding mirror, the religious trauma, the anger, and don’t forget the terrible parents. We talk Buck's very relatable 30-something realization, Hen standing at the crossroads of identity and health, and May and Ravi being the newest Disney Prince and Princess. Plus a Psycho-inspired theory that is probably crack, but you never know! And of course, Buck and Eddie being absolutely not normal about each other.Buck calls Eddie sexy to his face and we break down how this is actually a first and why that matters, why Eddie’s reactions to Buck at the auction are not jealousy but something way more interesting, and why the auction as a whole is basically an unwitting argument for both of their untapped feelings for the other. We don't do jealous Eddie in this house — but possessive Eddie? We could write a dissertation. These episodes are building off the already great momentum we have for Buck and Eddie’s individual arcs to come back together in Season 9, and Gay Eddie Stocks™️are at an all time high! Kitchen Divorce Revisited: Buck & Eddie’s Unfinished Fight

We’re revisiting the Kitchen Divorce. Yes, that kitchen fight from Season 8, Episode 17 of 9-1-1, because Season 9 has made it painfully, hilariously clear that this fight never actually ended. It just went (40 feet) underground. This scene is what happens when two people who deeply love each other, rely on each other, and absolutely cannot admit that out loud get stuck in a room with knives, feelings, and no emotional escape hatch. Buck wants reassurance. Eddie wants control. Both of them want the other one to stay. Instead, they fight like divorced dads arguing over who bought the wrong oat milk. And the wild part? They never actually talk about it again. No quiet follow-up. No late-night couch moment. No “hey, about that time we emotionally stabbed each other.” The show lets it sit there, vibrating — and then Season 9 rolls around like, what if that unresolved mess haunted the narrative more than the ghost of Bobby Nash?Listening back to this episode now, with Season 9 unfolding the way it is, hits completely different. What we were already clocking — the avoidance, the emotional misfires, the way love keeps getting rerouted into conflict — hasn’t softened with time. It’s echoed, stacked, and quietly reshaped how Buck and Eddie move around each other. We break down EVERYTHING that’s packed into this 3-minute scene: the writing keeps dodging confession by swapping in accusation, the performances are doing Olympic-level emotional gymnastics, and the direction traps them in a space that should feel ordinary and safe — but instead turns into the kind of intimacy that makes everyone involved pretend they’re mad about something else. The tension doesn’t disappear after this fight. It buffers itself through half-conversations, other people, and missed connections, and Season 9 makes it increasingly clear that none of this is accidental. It’s not just a breakup fight. It’s a fault line — the moment the friction shoved Buck and Eddie’s relationship onto shifting ground it’s still trying to survive, and maybe evolve from, together. So get ready to take notes this time, because Tim Minear is handing out subtextual pop quizzes — and they all lead back to this 8x17 fight. Strap in. Season 9 is not done cashing this check.Chapters(00:00:00) Intro(00:00:40) Welcome to the Kitchen (Amuse-Bouche)(00:04:38) Buck’s POV (First Course)(00:08:53) Buck’s Grief & Emotional Deflection(00:13:44) Buck Picking the Fight (On Purpose)(00:22:41) Kitchen Lighting Analysis (Palate Cleanser)(00:27:33) Back to Buck(00:35:10) The Fight as Miscommunication, Not Anger(00:48:04) Eddie’s POV (Second Course)(00:54:14) Eddie’s Control vs Vulnerability(01:07:31) The “Wanna Go for the Title” Moment(01:24:29) Why This Fight Never Gets Repaired(01:32:52) How This Scene Haunts Later Seasons(01:39:17) Our Takeaways (Dessert)(01:45:15) Take a Buddie With You & OutroWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, New 9-1-1 Episode Live Reactions, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY

Fallout Revisited: Buck & Eddie Avoid Their Feelings

A revisit episode. Some episodes don’t age — they ferment. As Season 8B ripples outward into Season 9, we’re revisiting Fallout because it quietly establishes emotional fault lines Buck and Eddie have been circling ever since.Season 3, Episode 9 of 9-1-1 wants to be about healing. What it’s actually doing is teaching us how these characters avoid it — who takes responsibility, who deflects, and who insists they’re fine while emotionally white-knuckling everything. This revisit digs into how Fallout locks in Buck and Eddie’s emotional operating systems early on. Buck worries, caretakes, and feels everything out loud. Eddie redirects vulnerability into humor, physicality, and confrontation. The episode keeps placing them in close, charged spaces where honesty could happen — and then deliberately swerves away. Not because the tension isn’t there, but because the show isn’t ready to let them name it yet.We dig into the production choices that reinforce this dynamic: where scenes are staged, how conflict replaces conversation, and why some of the most revealing moments happen in kitchens, backyards, and fenced-in spaces — rather than anywhere designed for healing.Revisiting it now makes the throughline impossible to ignore. The patterns are already locked in. The slow burn is already burning. And yes, the kitchen scene is doing a crazy amount of narrative work.📔 Articles Mentioned🎧 Oliver & Aisha on Smith Sisters Live Podcast 📰 ‘9-1-1’ Star Aisha Hinds Says Hen Is ‘Assuming All Responsibility’ for That Horrific Accident, The Wrap📰 9-1-1‘s Aisha Hinds Weighs In on the Fallout From Hen’s Traumatic Ordeal: ‘It’s Something That Will Stay With Her’, TV LineWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Fire Fam Chats, New 9-1-1 Episode Livestreams, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:01:58) Welcome to Dispatch(00:04:20) General Thoughts(00:10:05) Jaws of Life – Deep Dive(00:14:21) Production & Behind the Scenes(00:19:51) Needle Drop – Music Analysis(00:22:33) Red String Corner(00:26:37) Foreshadowing & Parallels(00:29:41) Flashover – Themes(00:37:25) Where’s the Fire? – Scene Dissection: Eddie, Maddie, & Hen in Therapy Montage(00:56:08) Who’s Cookin’? – Character Analysis(00:56:28) Hen(01:09:07) Maddie(01:20:27) Eddie(01:24:37) Buck(01:28:49) Bobby & Athena(01:43:21) Slow Burn – Bi Buck & Buddie Watch(01:47:34) Do You Wanna Go For The Title(02:15:43) “It’s Like We Just Click”(02:18:04) Kitchen Tension Parallel to 8x08 Tablet(02:22:18) Take a Buddie With You & Outro

OOPS! All Feelings: Heated Rivalry Episode 2

Season 1 Episode 2 of Heated Rivalry, “Olympians,” is where our boys are well and truly fucked — Shane literally, and both of them emotionally. It’s all fun and games until the sex becomes a gateway drug to feelings and they both get hurt. Tender kisses and longing glances after your first time don’t sound so casual now.Shane and Ilya form a textuationship over a montage that spans two years, culminating in their first time going “all the way,” which accidentally turns into “OOPS! All Feelings.” We explore Ilya’s self-preservational shutdown in Sochi, the plethora of emotions that flit across Shane’s face as he watches Ilya lift the Cup, and the reunion in Vegas that ends with one of the most devastating moments of the hockey romance series: an unsent text that reads, “We didn’t even kiss.”This episode of Heated Rivalry flips the tone from “hot and heavy” to “dicked down and depressed.” We take a metaphorical blacklight to these sheets and uncover the intimacy buried under repressed feelings, the subsequent fear, avoidance, and physical distance, and why all of this marks the point of no return for both of them. Shane and Ilya are fooling around and falling in love without a safe word.Hosted by four besties — Han, Cil, Rachel, and Niki — we strap on our skates and talk you through how the show uses performance, blocking, and masterful visual storytelling to reveal exactly how scared these two are of what they’re starting to feel. If you like nerding out over book-to-screen changes, affectionate character roasting, and watching us escort bad fandom takes straight to the sin bin… pull up a chair.📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 Exploring Similarities Between Ilya Rozanov & Evan Buckley – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!💦🐤 Our Reaction to Heated Rivalry’s Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams Read Thirst Tweets – Patreon Exclusive!📰 Heated Rivalry Text Message Cinematic Analysis, Valentina Vee on TikTok📰 Ilya’s POV: Las Vegas Remix, Rachel Reid on Rachel Reid Writes📰 Heated Rivalry Cast & Crew Press, thoroughly compiled by _mika60_ on Twitter 🫶🏼We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Early Access to Episode Live Reactions, Behind the Scenes Podcast Content, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Puck Drop – Intro(00:03:53) Post-Game Highlights – “Olympians” Timeline(00:15:43) Line Change – Our Reactions & Review(00:27:41) Chirp of the Week – Loving Roasts 🔥(00:35:12) Man in the Crease – Production Appreciation(00:43:06) THAT Vegas Bathroom Scene(01:09:06) Needle Drop – Music Discussion(01:14:29) Mirror Watch – Symbolism(01:20:26) Hat Trick – Three-Peats of the Episode(01:25:28) Faceoff – Book to Show Adaptation Comparisons(01:40:06) Ilya’s POV of Vegas(01:46:51) Sin Bin – The Opinion Penalty Box(02:03:06) Wrap Up & Outro

    Pain’s a Part of Life (Season 9 Episodes 8-9)

“I’m done with feeling like I should be fine.”This week, Han, Cil, and Rachel stage an intervention for 9-1-1 Season 9 Episodes 8 (“War”) and 9 (“Fighting Back”), two episodes that are doing a lot emotionally, narratively, and metaphorically — especially when it comes to grief, disability, and the slow, messy work of holding a found family together. Nothing is wrapped up neatly here, and that’s on purpose. From Avengers: Age of Ultron energy at dispatch with Maddie to what amounts to forced group therapy at Athena’s house, these episodes cover a surprising amount of ground. We discuss Chimney learning that firing your best friend comes with interventions and consequences, and Harry’s graduation into his 9-1-1 Nepo Era (after a brief existential crisis). We examine why Hen’s “meltdown” is not out of character (and why some fandom reactions missed the point), how grief is a non-linear process, and how chronic illness becomes a physical metaphor for everything the characters have been carrying since losing Bobby. We also talk about the uneven emotional labor women carry in families and friend groups, disability representation that actually hits, and why the 118 re-assembling outside the firehouse for the first time post-Bobby is so important.Plus: lore callbacks, Athena Grant stepping fully into her matriarch-in-chief era, and Buck and Eddie acting like divorced coworkers who absolutely did not finish the emotional paperwork.Buddie remains a major gravitational force in these episodes, not because the show is shouting it, but because it keeps structuring the story around Buck and Eddie anyway. From near-partner dynamics at work to the show’s habit of emotionally separating them while keeping them locked in each other’s eyeline, their relationship stays narratively loud even when it goes unspoken. Call it a forecast or extremely informed clownery, but Buddie is still one of the engines driving the emotional stakes of season nine — and the text keeps putting that directly in front of us.If these episodes hit harder than expected and you’re still picking emotional shrapnel out of your brain, spent the hour defending Hen with your whole chest, or clocked Buck and Eddie slipping back into their favorite stress response — bickering with feelings attached — this episode is for you. We break down why none of this is accidental, why the feelings are the story, and why the 118 falling apart is actually how it starts putting itself back together. Hit play — we’ll do the processing so you don’t have to do it alone.“If you’re broken inside, you can’t help but fightDon’t numb the pain, the fear, the rain — that hurting means it’s workingOh-whoa, there’s beauty in the hurting”Episode title inspired by “Beauty in the Hurting” by Jared Benjamin📔 Articles & References From This Episode 📔🫂 Buddie Haunted by Kitchens – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!🐤 Buddie Made It About Themselves, ircnshield on TwitterWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon or Ko-Fi for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Fire Fam Chats, New 9-1-1 Episode Livestreams, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Previously on 9-1-1…(00:01:06) Welcome to Dispatch 🚨(00:02:29) 9x08 “War” Review(00:05:14) 9x09 “Fighting Back” Review(00:16:42) Hen – Carrying the Weight(00:27:36) Athena – Holding the 118 Together(00:33:27) Karen – The Quiet Backbone(00:37:08) Chimney – Pressure Points(00:41:12) Maddie – Outsmarting the Algorithm(00:43:48) Harry – Growing Up Fast(00:47:24) Buck – Showing Up Anyway(00:52:23) Eddie – Control Under Pressure(00:59:03) Buddiemaxxing(01:10:43) The Narrative Is Side-Eyeing Us – Parallels(01:21:33) The Buddie Forecast 🔮(01:27:16) Eddie’s Un-Repression Checklist(01:38:01) What’s Coming Next & Our 9x10 Theory(01:48:43) Season 9 Wi$h Li$t(01:49:46) Buck is a Bad Follow (Affectionate) & Outro

I’ll Be Like One of Your Girls (Season 9 Episode 7)

“Give me a call if you ever get lonely I’ll be like one of your girls or your homies”This week, Han, Cil, and Rachel head back to the clurb (unwillingly, in Eddie’s case) to break down Season 9 Episode 7 of 9-1-1, "Secrets."Hen pushes herself past the point of reason trying to solve her own mystery illness, Chimney is forced into an impossible leadership position, and Ravi continues to be the funniest man alive. Meanwhile, Buck goes on two dates — one with a man, one with a woman — only to discover they’re married, want him as a third, and ultimately help him realize something much bigger about what he actually wants. And Eddie Diaz? Eddie Diaz is exhausted. We focus on how the club sequence functions as a pressure cooker: a space designed to produce desire, where Eddie’s disinterest in women becomes impossible to ignore and Buck’s attention keeps circling back to him anyway. Through blocking, reaction shots, and repeated visual callbacks, the episode frames their dynamic as intimate, loaded, and unresolved — less about jealousy and more about proximity, comfort, and habit. From chastity belts (literal and metaphorical), to wingmen who keep getting stolen, to the Comp-Het tango Buck and Eddie cannot stop dancing, this episode gives us some of the clearest text and subtext we’ve seen all season. Then we unleash Queer Eddiemaxxing, where we trace Eddie’s long-standing pattern of performance, abstinence, and denial — and how this episode finally flips the script. From there, we head straight into Buddiemaxxing (lol), the delayed gratification of Buddie, and the “right in front of you” storytelling that continues to define the season. This episode positions Buck and Eddie as each other’s emotional constant, even when they’re supposedly looking elsewhere.“Say what you want, and I’ll keep it a secret You get the key to my heart, and I need it”Episode title inspired by “One of Your Girls” by Troye Sivan.📔 Articles & References🫂 Buddie Power Dynamics – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 ‘9-1-1’s Oliver Stark On “Awkward” Time Filming Buck’s Bi Love Triangle With Real Married Couple, “Charged Moments” For Buddie Shippers, Deadline📰 9-1-1 Midseason Premiere: Oliver Stark Breaks Down Buck’s ‘Self-Discovery’ After Returning to the Dating Scene (Exclusive), People📰 9-1-1’s Ryan Guzman Worried Eddie Might Be Killed Off — But Now He’s Hoping for a Season 9 Romance (Exclusive), Us Weekly📰 ‘9-1-1’ star Ryan Guzman reflects on Eddie’s journey leading up to Season 9 in exclusive interview, YardBarker📰 Oliver Stark Teases What’s Next on 9-1-1 After That Shocking Midseason Premiere Twist (Exclusive), People📰 ‘9-1-1’ is TV’s most unhinged procedural — and that’s why it works, The Washington PostWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon or Ko-Fi for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Fire Fam Chats, New 9-1-1 Episode Livestreams, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Intro(00:01:22) Welcome to Dispatch(00:03:13) 9x08 “Secrets” Review(00:10:24) Production Choices We Loved(00:23:15) Hen – Keeping It to Herself(00:28:46) Chimney – Walking the Line(00:33:03) Ravi – Third-Wheeling It(00:37:43) Buck – The Worst Wingman Alive(00:55:32) Eddie – Not Beating the Allegations(01:05:01) Our Queer-Coded Eddie Watchlist(01:14:28) Queer Eddiemaxxing(01:19:57) Eddie Is NOT Interested in Dating(01:46:22) Buck & Eddie at the Club(01:53:51) The Buddie Comp-Het Tango(02:02:56) Buck & Eddie Keeping Secrets(02:19:43) Setting Up the Slow Burn – Meta Commentary(02:25:58) The Subtext & Symbolism Are Loud(02:41:58) Euphemism Watch 👀(02:53:51) Buddie Forecast(03:00:16) What’s Coming Next in Season 9(03:07:34) Why This Isn’t Queerbaiting(03:26:35) Our Wi$h Li$t for Season 9(03:28:08) Outro & Take a Buddie With You!

As lovers of good television and queer stories, Heated Rivalry has bewitched us body and soul, so we’re taking a field trip with our bestie Niki to the gay boy aquarium (and hopefully you’re joining us)! We’re applying our thoughtful media analysis from our usual format — where we yap about the show 9-1-1 — to the best book to screen adaptation we’ve ever seen! This week Han, Cil, Rachel, and Niki dive into the production, music, parallels, and changes from the book by Rachel Reid that make this an absolutely captivating episode of TV, championed by writer and director, Jacob Tierney. We share our first impressions and review of Episode 1 “Rookies” with plenty of flowers for the acting powerhouses of Connor Storrie as Ilya Rozanov and Hudson Williams as Shane Hollander. Then cool off in the penalty box where we defend Yuna Hollander’s honor against the internet’s media illiteracy, you don’t need to read the book to know that she’s a MOAT (Mother of All Time).Party like it’s 2008, grab your iPod nano, and listen to our many thoughts on the first episode of Heated Rivalry!📔 Articles & References🫂 Exploring Similarities Between Shane Hollander & Eddie Diaz – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!💦🐤 Our Reaction to Heated Rivalry’s Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams Read Thirst Tweets – Patreon Exclusive!📰 Heated Rivalry Cast & Crew Press, thoroughly compiled by _mika60_ on Twitter 🫶🏼We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon or Ko-Fi for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Fire Fam Chats, New 9-1-1 Episode Livestreams, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Intro(00:00:27) Welcome to the AQUEERium(00:01:36) Starting Lineup - Co-Host Introductions(00:07:59) Post-Game Highlights - Episode Recap(00:17:56) Line Change - Reaction & Episode Review(00:32:32) Chirp of the Week - Loving Roasts(00:38:01) Man in the Crease - Production Appreciation(00:46:39) Mirror Watch(00:54:08) Blocking in the Locker Room Scene(01:00:11) Needle Drop(01:02:25) Hat Trick - Three-Peats of the Episode(01:04:44) Faceoff - Book to Show Adaptation Differences(01:21:08) Sin Bin - The Opinion Penalty Box(01:29:44) HudCon Thirst Tweets Reaction Preview

Eddie Diaz Queer Coding: Dating (Good Luck, Babe!)

It’s fine, it’s cool, Eddie can tell a priest “I’m straight,” but we know the truth. You can kiss the clone of your dead ex-wifeDate a former nun, let her catch you cheatingYou can say that you choose this lifeBreak a new heart, another comp-het victimWell, good luck, Eddie!Episode title inspired by “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan📔 Articles & References🫂 What If Eddie Had Dated Tommy? – Check out this week’s Patreon-exclusive Best Buddies Mini-Segment here!📰 Ryan Guzman Reacts to the '9-1-1' Season 7 Finale's Biggest Twists, Collider📰 ‘9-1-1’ star Ryan Guzman reflects on Eddie’s journey leading up to Season 9 in exclusive interview, YardBarker🎞️ Take a Chance on Me, edit bu hedwiglitz on TwitterWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon or Ko-Fi for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Fire Fam Chats, New 9-1-1 Episode Livestreams, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Intro(00:01:37) Queer Coding, Demisexuality, and CompHet(00:04:27) Eddie Performing with Shannon(00:29:14) Bobby’s Role in the CompHettery(00:35:54) Eddie Performing with Ana(00:57:12) Performance Anxiety(01:00:54) The Date with Vanessa(01:17:09) Eddie Performing with Marisol(01:46:09) Eddie’s 7x05 Performance(01:52:55) Eddie’s Performance with Kim(02:03:21) Outro & Take A Buddie With You!

In Love With Eddie? (Plot Device Part 2)

This week, Han, Cil, and Rachel are revisiting our Plot Device episode with an addendum focused entirely around Tommy’s return in Season 8 Episode 11 of 9-1-1, “Holy Mother of God.”In our original special (listen here!) we discussed how Tommy’s role is to showcase Buck's journey of self-discovery and his coming to terms with his bisexuality. Well, we’re back in the building again, with Tommy existing solely to point out Buck’s glaringly obvious feelings for his best friend, and to scoff at the idea of Eddie being straight. We look at 8x11 through Tommy’s gay judgemental microscope and break down Buck’s internal existential crisis now that the idea of less than platonic feelings for Eddie has been thrown in his face.Once more with feeling, and this time with gratitude, we explore why Tommy is the ultimate plot device for Buck and Buddie! We are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon or Ko-Fi for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Fire Fam Chats, New 9-1-1 Episode Livestreams, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters(00:00:00) Intro(00:03:58) What is a Plot Device Refresher(00:07:22) The Bar Betrayal(00:18:50) “I Don’t Live There Anymore”(00:23:55) Taking the Plot Device to Eddie’s House(00:35:23) Now That the Competition’s Out of the Way(00:41:29) I Don’t Have to Sleep with Everyone I Have Feelings For(00:48:42) Buck’s Very Bad Defense(00:56:37) It Had to Be Tommy(01:02:01) Buck’s Spiraling Escalates(01:08:30) Buck Doth Protest Too Much to Maddie(01:13:19) Buck Doesn’t Have Time to Unpack All That(01:26:14) thanK you Tommy(01:30:35) Take a Buddie With You!

Train in Vain (3x18: What's Next?)

“You said you love me, and that's a factAnd then you left me, said you felt trappedWell, some things you can explain awayBut the heartache's in me 'til this day”This week Han, Cil, and Rachel go off the rails while we explore Season 3 Episode 18, the Season Finale of 9-1-1, “What’s Next?” where everyone but Buck gets a happy ending.Josh confronts his attacker, Michael gets his cancer-free(ish) meet-cute redo, Maddie and Chimney are expecting, and Buck is getting the most unsatisfactory closure Amtrak could deliver. We discuss how Athena is not raring to get back out in the field, but her family assumes she is. Athena tries to find normalcy in the aftermath of the attack, but struggles when she comes home to find a den that reflects her psyche: a deconstructed zone.Buck is jump-scared by the ghoster of girlfriends past: Abby, and spends most of the episode grappling with his unresolved feelings, thinking she was the one that got away. We dissect his interactions with Abby and uncover the anger lurking beneath the surface from being abandoned in such a thoughtless way.Meanwhile, number one Abby hater Eddie Diaz is watching his bff like a hawk, waiting to see how he can have Buck’s back in the face of the person who left Buck the hurt and closed off version of himself Eddie first met in 2x01. Things are cooking in our Slow Burn section as we look into the co-parenting kerfuffle Buck and Eddie have at the station over sending Christopher to summer camp. No one but Eddie seems surprised that Buck is balking at the idea. We unpack Eddie’s judgmental looks at Abby, of which there are many, and his exasperation with Buck for taking unnecessary risks to save Abby’s FiAnCé.Buck and Abby meet for the last time by the train in vain because neither of them reach their intended destination: closure.“You must explain why this must beDid you lie when you spoke to me?Did you stand by me? One Way Or Another (3x17: Powerless)

One way or another, I wanna get ya, I’ll get ya!This week Han, Cil, and Rachel discuss Season 3 Episode 17 of 9-1-1, “Powerless.” Karen is suspicious of Hen, Athena is tracking down the realtor rapist, and Josh is debating whether to make his statement in court. Super lighthearted stuff, amirite?Maddie lends an ear and advice to Josh who’s struggling with moving on after The Taking of Dispatch 9-1-1. Karen finds some breadcrumbs Hen leaves behind, leading her to daydrink with Chimney while they commiserate over Hen’s “double life.” We explore how Hen internally processes things and how that can lead to some less than desirable outcomes when her suspicious track record is not squeaky clean. But when the truth comes out, Karen is elated and supportive, while Chimney is left with the stirrings of his abandonment issues.Athena’s lone wolf ways finally put her in a situation she doesn’t walk away from (she’s wheeled out on a stretcher.) We discuss the reactions of dispatch and the 118, who all listen to he harrowing attack not knowing if Athena will be alive when they arrive on scene. In the aftermath of the attack we talk about how Bobby leans on Michael for support and some destructive stress-relief. Michael gets his meet-cute moment and things are finally looking up as he awaits the results of his MRI. But duty calls and he rushes to be with his family to support them through Athena’s recovery. Dig into some great Buddie and Bathena parallels with us in our Slow Burn section between this episode and Brawl in Cell Block 9-1-1 (Season 5 Episode 6.) Way Too Good At Goodbyes (3x16: The One That Got Away)

It's sad but it's true, Buck’s way too good at goodbyes. This week Han, Cil, and Rachel enter the emotional rollercoaster of Season 3 Episode 16 of 9-1-1, “The One That Got Away.” Buck is grappling with what he thinks is the Ghost of Christmases Yet to Come, while Hen decides to take the survival rate of her patients into her own hands — literally! The catalyst for Hen’s journey into becoming a doctor begins here when the hospital loses one of her patients because they don’t follow her medical advice. We discuss how this doesn’t sit right with her because it brings back the still very fresh memories of the ambulance accident and activates her medical vigilante shit. Our girl just wants to save as many people and make as big of a difference as she can!Meanwhile, Buck is doing that thing where he projects onto an old man and ends up ushering them into the next plane of non-existence (death). We break down how his friendship with Red, a retired firefighter a little too similar to himself, brings up all his Abby-bandonment issues and fear of being alone. His first grand gesture to help Red was a schwing and a miss but the second really knocked it out of the park with a swelling emotional sendoff and ode to Red’s life of service with the LAFD.Eddie does his best to reassure Buck that nothing would ever change how close they and the 118 are, but everyone else accidentally ends up feeding into Buck’s worries. We explore how most of Buck’s fears of abandonment by the 118 do end up happening in the future, although most of them are temporary. Our Slow Burn section delves into how Buck is never lonely when he’s with Eddie, because Eddie is the “one who got away” who always comes back.Episode Title inspired by “Way Too Good At Goodbyes” by Sam Smith📔 Articles Quoted📰 9-1-1‘s Oliver Stark Weighs In on Buck’s Secret Struggle, How ‘Closure’ With Abby Might Be Part of the Solution, TV Line📰 ‘9-1-1’: Oliver Stark Says ‘Closure’ Coming for Buck and Abby, Finale Will Be a Literal Train Wreck, The Wrap📰 ‘9-1-1’s Oliver Stark Says Buck Is Feeling ‘Stuck’ & Needs ‘Closure’ With Abby, TV Insider📰 9-1-1's Oliver Stark Teases Train Derailment in Season 3 Finale: 'It's Going to Be Bigger Than Anything We've Done', TV Guide🎨 Fanworks Mentioned🎬 This Is the Song That Never Ends — DeanCas “Africa” Supercut, by sisabet on Archive of Our OwnWe are @buddiesystempod everywhere:TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookWatch The Buddie System podcast episodes and our live reactions to the most recent 9-1-1 episodes on YouTube!Support us on Patreon or Ko-Fi for perks and extra content like access to our exclusive Discord, Fire Fam Chats, New 9-1-1 Episode Livestreams, and more! The Buddie System is a Nerdvergent Media production.Music by DIV!NITY Chapters (00:00:00) Intro(00:00:52) Welcome to Dispatch(00:03:57) General Thoughts(00:09:26) Jaws of Life - Deep Dive(00:15:25) Production & Behind the Scenes(00:23:06) Needle Drop - “Hold the Line” Music Analysis(00:36:54) Red String Corner (00:47:55) Flashover - Episode Themes(01:00:37) Athena - Who’s Cookin’? - Character Analysis(01:05:55) Hen(01:22:21) Buck(01:31:52) Buck Meets Red(01:42:56) Playing Pool with the 118(01:48:08) Buck Helps Red Reunite with the One Who Got Away(01:57:54) Buck’s Talk with Maddie About Being Left Behind(02:04:48) Red’s Sendoff Tribute(02:13:23) Buck Isn’t Making It About Him(02:27:03) Eddie(02:34:47) Slow Burn - Bi Buck & Buddie Watch(02:41:10) Buck Should’ve Taken Eddie’s Offer(02:51:29) Eddie is the One Who Comes Back(03:03:38) Take a Buddie with You & Outro

Combat, Eddie’s ready for combat. It’s finally time for Han, Cil, and Rachel to discuss an episode they know All Too Well, Season 3 Episode 15 of 9-1-1, “Eddie Begins.” So grab your poncho, hardhats, and oxygen tanks, because we’re going spelunking in Eddie’s psyche! We dive deep (40 feet, to be exact!) into one of the best episodes of the show with thorough explorations of his tumultuous relationships with Shannon and his parents in the past, compared to the strong bonds and family he’s formed with the 118 in the present. And of course, at the heart of all of it: Christopher. Enjoy metaphors about Eddie’s rebirth of sorts, and dragging Eddie’s parents through the mud!Stoking the fires of our Buck and Eddie slow burn section is easy work this week as we compare their partnership and equally having each other’s backs to how Eddie and Shannon were never able to do so. We break down Buck’s Lassie-coded meltdown, the implications of the rest of the topside 118 handling him with spouse gloves, and Buck being the other half of Eddie’s guiding force back to life. After all, Eddie’s not alone — he’s got Christopher and Buck steadfastly at his side to help him hold on to who he wants to be!Eddie’s been the archerHe’s been the preyWho could ever leave him, darling?
