    Honesty: The A to Z of Career Growth

    This week we unravel the topic of  honesty. A very important part in life in general as well as career. Hope honest are you with yourself and those around you?What* The quality of being honest: they spoke with convincing honesty about their fears it was not, in all honesty, an auspicious debut.* Being true. True to one self first and foremost (if you don’t believe you, then why should anyone else?)* Having integrity → doing the right thing even when no one’s watching* Sincerity → being genuine and authentic in how you express yourself* Example: when something goes wrong. It requires honesty to properly establish facts How* Self aware - understand how you tick as a person* Feedback - Be open to receive feedback from friends and colleagues to help with the above* Trust - not being afraid to  own up if something goes wrong.* Example of honesty: being open with close friends. However the juxtaposition comes when we understand that often times people must be allowed to be honest.     Focus - The A to Z of Career Growth

    This week we take a look at: Focus. The What and How thereof. What* An act of concentrating interest or activity on something: our focus on the customer's requirements.* Concentrating one’s efforts on a particular area.     Career Talk with Jamaica FM

    On the 10th of March, I was contacted by the team at Jamaica FM and was asked to give an interview about career choices, why some go wrong and what can be done to rectify or change career decisions. Despite having less than two hours notice, I agreed because Jamaica is a country close to my heart for obvious reasons. Despite some nerves, the interview went reasonably well. So much so that there may even be a follow up!

    Empowerment - The A to Z of Career Growth

    In this episode , we’ll be talking a look at Empowerment. A very powerful state that will put your career or personal situation into overdrive. What* Authority or power given to someone to do something: individuals are given empowerment to create their own dwellings.* Essentially the freedom to express one’s talent in order to accomplish tasks.     * In addition in a the wider context of an entire job or project* Example - at work being entrusted to make decisions. Importantly, being allowed to fail. * On a personal level, as parents, we should be encouraged to allow our children to undertake tasks. The development is about learning and they should be entrusted to do so eg doing shoelaces - let them!How* Trusting subordinates or lower-ranking colleagues to do work - building selfconfidence* Allowing mistakes and Fuckupability* Encouraging creativity. Creativity is the child of empowerment. Allowing others to develop ideas freely without undue or unwanted intervention. * Example - delegating - passing more tasks onto team members.
