On this episode of Talk Around Town, City Manager David Gassaway visits the construction site of Fairfield’s new Fire Station 36 with Deputy Fire Chief Rich Llewellyn. They talk about what the new Station 36 and the future Station 39 will mean for faster response times, improved wildfire coverage, and safer, more modern working conditions for Fairfield’s firefighters. They also discuss how both stations are being built efficiently and funded without pulling from day-to-day city services.Completion is expected in late 2026, and the fire department looks forward to welcoming the community once the stations are finished.

In our latest Talk Around Town video, we caught up with Senior Engineer David Vong to talk about the West TX Complete Streets Project — a major effort to make this busy corridor safer, more walkable, and better for everyone who uses it.The project will reduce traffic lanes to help slow speeds, add protected bike lanes, and create new bus turnouts so buses don’t block traffic. It’ll also bring in shaded walkways and fresh landscaping to make the street more comfortable and inviting.This is an $11 million project, with nearly all the funding coming from state and regional sources — a huge win for Fairfield. There will also be adaptive traffic signals, sidewalks, and bike lanes for additional flow and safety.This project is developer-led and all plans are reviewed and approved by the City prior to the start of work. During the project, the City conducts inspections at key points to verify the quality of work.Improvements should be done by the end of this year with landscaping to follow next spring.Manuel Campos Parkway is still underway. Signals have been powered and overhead and utility lines are next.
