The Couch

A podcast dedicated to connecting scripture to life and community at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

  1. 10

    RIC at HC

Amy and DJ talk with guest, Pastor Marvin Havard, about the Reconciling in Christ process and his story. Holy Cross is in the midst of the RIC process, which seeks to introduce a welcome statement that specifically acknowledges marginalized segments of the population, such as the Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, and Queer/Questioning community.

  2. 9

Wonder Woman, wonder woman, and Jo(h)ns

This week we welcome our communications director Jeanine Davis to the "couch" to discuss how she came to join us and what she does around Holy Cross. Also included, a little behind the scenes peak at how we plan (or don't) these podcasts. Enjoy the behind the scenes talk at the beginning. You're welcome. Love, Anthony.

  3. 8

VBS, Name Drops, and Shout Outs

This week we are joined by two Holy Cross MVP volunteers to talk about their involvement in Vacation Bible School.

  4. 7

Anthony Ruins the Podcast, but not the Planet.

This week we talk to "creationthusiast" Nathaniel Murken about how to take care of the earth.

  5. 6

If you only watch one podcast...

We discuss the various reasons why young adults are or are not involved in the church. We get some help from some young adults, and learn that you don't actually watch podcasts. Featuring Pastor Mike, D.J. and actual real-life, church-going young adults, Amanda and Matthew Schwabauer. Thanks for watching!

  6. 5

    The Last Word: Amen

This week we talk about Jesus as an advocate, the RIC process at Holy Cross, and how D.J. says amen incorrectly.

  7. 4

The regular crew, and a guest!

We have a guest on the podcast, and then the regulars chime in.

  8. 3

    HCLC talks AHCA and ACA

The Couch crew is joined at a table this week by Salem Lutheran Director of Adult Ministries and Outreach, Meghan Harmison. Meghan is a former substance abuse therapist. She helps Amy, Jon and D.J. dive into the ELCA social statement on healthcare in light of current events in the country.

  9. 2

    Mr. Jones and Us

In the second edition of Holy Cross' podcast, D.J. invites Bethany College President Will Jones on to the couch. Their conversation dives into race and the real life experiences of President Jones. Then Pastor Jon and Amy are welcomed back to breakdown the questions of the week and the newest prayer tip.

  10. 1

    Fearcasting and Alliteration

Amy, D.J., Mike and Jon sit down on "the couch" to talk about how Jesus calls us outside our comfort zones in this week's scripture. Issues of fearcasting, gardening, praying, hockey and movies all make it into the episode as well.
