If you're a Commercial Real Estate (CRE) professional looking to learn from the best, then you're in for a treat. I had the pleasure of sitting down with one of the industry's biggest names, Robert Knakal, for a candid conversation about his journey, insights, and anecdotes. As we delved into his early years, Bob recounted how he began in the industry, starting while still in college and how he had to do some research after getting a job interview with Coldwell Banker. He stressed the importance of being strategic, having a geographic focus, and mastering a particular segment. He learned this lesson the hard way, but he credits it for his success. Bob also spoke about how he is now utilizing social media to provide value to clients and stay relevant in the industry. He emphasized that social media is a new and exciting way to connect with clients, share knowledge, and stay top of mind. One of the highlights of our conversation was when Bob shared the story of his first deal. He recalled how he felt like the richest man in New York City after earning a commission of $12,500. He even keeps the penny he was flipping on the day of closing that first deal and has had it taped to his desk ever since. The penny served as a reminder of his early success and is with Bob to this day. Another highlight and one of my personal favorites is Bob's "Spaghetti & Meatballs" story. It's not what you think and it's full of valuable information on how you share your value proposition. But it wasn't just successes that we talked about. Bob also opened up about his failures and how he learned from them. He stressed the importance of being passionate, disciplined, and having integrity. He said that despite the challenges the industry faces, there will always be new superstars that emerge from them, and we should strive to be one of them. I hope by listening to this interview you pick up a few "Knakal Knuggets" and continue striving to be the best Commercial Real Estate Broker you can be. I am truly honored that Bob agreed to be on my podcast. He is a wealth of knowledge and inspiration for all CRE professionals. His anecdotes and insights are not only valuable but also entertaining. So, if you're looking to learn from a true industry superstar, then make sure to share this article so others can enjoy it too. And who knows, maybe you'll even find your own lucky penny along the way. If you'd like to be a guest on The CRE Deal Room™ my DMs are open.

The CRE Deal Room™ with Adam Dunn - How I Finally Got into Brokerage

If you've been following my story, you know that my entre into brokerage wasn't exactly...normal. I took a detour into property management but learned plenty of lessons about multihousing because of it and finally saved up enough money to be able to go full-time into brokerage. But where to go? Who to turn to? Where to start? Well, as I learned, you start from the bottom and you get to work and if you build a solid foundation, you can take those skills anywhere. A few things occurred along the way that caused some challenges: - Lost my discount at my apartment & had to move - Went 100% Commission - Had shiny object syndrome I appreciate you following me on this journey and as a side note, I recorded my VERY FIRST OFFICIAL podcast with my buddy Matthew E. Drane. I cannot wait to share that with you in the coming weeks. The CRE Deal Room™ is just getting started! Stay tuned!

The CRE Deal Room™ with Adam Dunn - How Property Management Became My Stepping Stone into Brokerage

Learning from the Ground Up: How Property Management Became My Stepping Stone into Brokerage. I know I've shared this story before but it is a good reminder that we all have to start somewhere. Here's what I hope you take away from my story: 🔑 Understand the challenges you face, identify the issues, and come up with a plan to address them. 🔑 Be hands-on and have a boots-on-the-ground approach. This will give you a better understanding of the problems and help you find a solution. 🔑 Don't be afraid to ask for help. Seeking the expertise of others can help you learn more and do better. 🔑 Be proactive, not reactive. Look at the bigger picture and plan ahead. This will help you stay ahead of any issues that may arise in the future. The challenge of this apartment complex gave me the foundation for where I am at today. If you're facing challenges in your life or career, take a cue from my experiences. Remember that challenges can be opportunities, and that success is within reach if you are willing to work hard and stay committed to your goals. #brokerage #multihousing #bostonrealestate #wednesdaywisdom

The CRE Deal Room™ with Adam Dunn - How I Got Started in CRE

How I got started in Commercial Real Estate From dreaming of following my parents in their footsteps to earning $100 commissions, my Commercial Real Estate journey probably wasn't what my parents had in mind when I graduated college. After responding to a job ad without any research, I landed a 'manager in training' position, earning a whopping $27,500 per year salary as a leasing agent. (But hey, I got a 25% discount on my apartment!) I learned from the ground up about apartment operations, got promoted to property manager, and even considered a brokerage role, but was wisely advised not to without two years of savings - which I definitely didn't have. So, I saved up and learned as much as I could. Moral of the story? Sometimes, success doesn't come in the package you expected - but the lessons learned along the way make it worth it. Three Things to Consider before Deciding on a Career Path in CRE Brokerage | The CRE Deal Room with Adam Dunn

3 Things to Consider Before Getting into the CRE Brokerage Business Starting a career in Commercial Real Estate Brokerage can be a rewarding and challenging experience. To increase your chances of success, consider these three key factors before taking the leap: 🔑 Financial preparedness: Make sure you have at least 12 months of living expenses saved up, as the role is typically commission-based and may take time to start earning a steady income. 🔑Team support: Joining a team or working with a mentor can help you avoid obstacles and gain experience more quickly. While it's possible to succeed on your own, working with a team increases your chances of success. 🔑 Vetting brokerage companies: Not all brokerage firms are the same. Look for a firm that provides an "integrated platform" that offers technology, resources, training, research, and brand recognition to help you conduct your business more efficiently and effectively. Remember, these three factors are not requirements for success, but considering them before starting your career in Commercial Real Estate Brokerage can greatly increase your chances of success. Good luck! #crebrokers #berkadia #adamdunncre #multihousing
