The Dabney-Thornwell Institute
by The Dabney-Thornwell Institute
The Dabney-Thornwell Institute is conservatory for the preservation and sharing of Southern Presbyterian thought, theology, and culture. Our vision is to reinvigorate evangelicalism with the work and writings of the Southern Presbyterians: Ministers the likes of Robert Lewis Dabney, James Henley Thornwell, Benjamin Palmer, John L. Girardeau, and Thomas E. Peck. As it stands, many of these names bring no attention at the common evangelical gathering. Or, unfortunately, mentioning these men produces evangelical contempt. Modernity has taught these theologians held less-than noble political stances, and because of this, they ought to be kept in the dark from conversation. But the Southern Presbyterian tradition produced some of the greatest theologians America has ever seen. Not only has this tradition produced brilliant theological thinkers, but thinkers that touched on nearly all meaningful topics. Be that politics, sociology, psychology, economics, philosophy
