Why Desi Kids Struggle to Feel Enough
Some of us learned how to achieve before we ever learned how to feel worthy. For others, survival was the only goal. So we keep chasing better grades, better careers, better validation, hoping that one day we’ll finally feel like enough. But even after achieving things we once dreamed about, that feeling of security or fulfillment still somehow doesn’t fully arrive. In this episode, I talk about why so many Desi kids grow up tying their self-worth to achievement, approval, and comparison. We explore ideas like conditional vs unconditional love, people pleasing, perfectionism, “Sharmaji ka beta” culture, and the pressure to constantly prove ourselves. This is also a conversation about collectivist family dynamics, immigrant survival mindsets, and how love and pressure can sometimes become deeply intertwined across generations. And most importantly, it’s about asking:Who are you when nobody is judging you?On another note, Happy Mother's Day to all of the lovely mothers out there, we are so grateful to have you in our lives. This episode is not meant to critique or shame anyone, it is just a deep-dive into certain generational patterns and how we can evolve them.
