'Post-Milk Generation’ and Other Things Big Dairy Doesn’t Want You to Say: The Oatly Case

In this episode of The Disclosure Podcast, I break down the UK Supreme Court ruling that prevents Oatly from using the slogan “post-milk generation” on its packaging, and explore why this case is nothing to do with consumer confusion and everything to do with protecting the dairy industry. I discuss the inconsistencies and absurdities in current labelling laws, what this reveals about industry influence and lobbying, and why situations like this should encourage us to question broader claims made about dairy, from health and sustainability to ethics.Order my new book How to Go (and Stay) Vegan here. For more exclusive content and personal writing from me, check out my Substack here.On my Substack, I share not only my own reflections and personal thoughts on veganism, but also my journey and struggles. Is it normal to feel angry as a vegan?

In this episode I talk about the experience of feeling angry as a vegan and why many of us feel strong emotions after becoming vegan and realising the scale of animal exploitation. I discuss whether these feelings are normal, as well as the risks of letting anger turn into burnout or isolation, and reflect on the importance of finding a healthy balance so we can continue advocating for animals without harming our own well-being.Order my new book How to Go (and Stay) Vegan here. For more exclusive content and personal writing from me, check out my Substack here.On my Substack, I share not only my own reflections and personal thoughts on veganism, but also my journey and struggles. Inside the Legal Fight Against Animal Farming. An Animal Law Solicitor Explains How the Law Is Being Used Against Animal Farming | In conversation with Edie Bowles

Since recording this episode, the UK government has presented its new Animal Welfare Strategy. One of the things that is set to be banned is the boiling alive of lobsters and crabs. This an issue that Edie Bowles and her team have been campaigning on, taking the legal fight to the UK government and compelling them to change the welfare laws around crustaceans. Can the law take on animal farming? In this episode, I sit down with animal law solicitor Edie Bowles who explains how the law is being used to protect animals, the battles being fought behind the scenes, and what it could mean for the future of farming.Edie Bowles is an accomplished animal law solicitor and co-founder of both Advocates for Animals (AFA) - the UK’s first animal protection law firm - and The Animal Law Foundation (ALF), a charity that researches and advocates for better enforcement and interpretation of animal protection laws.Edie began her career in intellectual property law and heard little about animal law as a career option during university. Once she discovered it was possible to turn her passion for animals into a profession, she made the switch, spending several years as a solicitor with Cruelty Free International before founding AFA and ALF.You can find more about Edie's work here:- https://www.advocates-for-animals.com/- https://animallawfoundation.org/- Social media handle: @AnimalLawFDN----------------------------------------------------------------------------📚To order my new book, click this link. For more exclusive content and personal writing from me, check out my Substack here.On my Substack, I share not only my own reflections and personal thoughts on veganism, but also my journey and struggles. Ep 31: The Full Story of How I Became Vegan & Never Looked Back

In today's episode I look back upon the moments in my life that acted as building blocks towards me making the switch from passionate KFC lover to vegan. I used to love eating fried chicken, I  was always up for a trip to the zoo, and as a child I laughed at vegetarians. So, what happened? And how can reflecting back on what helped us make the switch to vegan help us become better advocates?  ✺ To support the show & get access to exclusive monthly podcast episodes: http://www.patreon.com/earthlinged✺ Find out more about what I do & join my mailing list: http://www.earthlinged.org✺ Download my free 122 page e-book: http://www.earthlinged.org/ebook✺ Take a 22 day free vegan challenge: http://switchtovegan.co.uk✺ Become a supporter of my activism (thank you!): http://www.earthlinged.org/support

Ep 28: How to Get Through Christmas as a Vegan

Christmas can be a very challenging time of year for vegans. During a time of celebration, seeing our loved ones perpetuate so much death and suffering can be extremely overwhelming. Dead bodies on the dining table and confrontations surrounding our choice not to hurt animals, there can be a lot of pressure, a lot of judgement and ultimately a lot of reasons to worry about Christmas as a vegan. I hope today's episode can help you! In today's episode:- How can we actually enjoy this time of year as vegans?- Why do our friends and family members get so hostile about our choice not to eat animal products?- How power dynamics play out around the dinner table during Christmas.- How to be prepared for, and understand the reasons behind the confrontation and judgement.

Ep 27: Are Vegans 43% More Likely to Break Bones Compared to Meat Eaters?

During the past couple of weeks there has been a media frenzy surrounding an EPIC-Oxford study that concluded that vegans have a higher risk of bone fractures. Headlines such as, "Meat-free diets linked with greater risk of breaking bones" and, "‘It is a worry’: The truth about veganism and bone health" littered news websites and flooded onto social media. Even Joe Rogan shared the study, as even though he has often criticised epidemiology that supports veganism, he clearly considers this to be damning evidence for his very public feelings towards veganism.Listen to find out:- Are vegans really at a 43% higher risk of fracturing bones? Especially hips fractures?- Are we biased as vegans against studies like this, and how should we react to it?- Is there dubious funding behind this study?✺ To support the show & get access to exclusive monthly podcast episodes: http://www.patreon.com/earthlinged✺ Find out more about what I do & join my mailing list: http://www.earthlinged.org✺ Download my free 122 page e-book: http://www.earthlinged.org/ebook✺ Take a 22 day free vegan challenge: http://switchtovegan.co.uk✺ Become a supporter of my activism (thank you!): http://www.earthlinged.org/support

Ep 26: Why Don't Humans Care About Fish? In Conversation with Jonathan Balcombe

In this episode I am joined by Jonathan Balcombe, an expert in animal behaviour. We discuss his work exploring how intellectually and emotionally complex fish actually are, and dispel many of the hugely prevalent myths surrounding fish, and fish sentience. We also discuss some of their most interesting behaviours, whether or not it is ethical to eat mussels and oysters, and whether or not we should have home aquariums.Listen to find out:- Are fish self aware?- Are fish intelligent? - What does the science actually say about fish?- What about mussels and oysters, do they feel pain?- Is it ethical to eat mussels and oysters?- What about flies, and insects in terms of sentience?- What about pleasure for animals, can the world be a joyful place for them?- Can fish feel pride?- What about the pet industry,  should people have aquariums? ✺ Jonathan's website:  https://jonathan-balcombe.com/✺ To support the show & get access to exclusive monthly podcast episodes: http://www.patreon.com/earthlinged✺ Find out more about what I do & join my mailing list: http://www.earthlinged.org✺ Download my free 122 page e-book: http://www.earthlinged.org/ebook✺ Take a 22 day free vegan challenge: http://switchtovegan.co.uk✺ Become a supporter of my activism (thank you!): http://www.earthlinged.org/support

Ep 25: Reflecting on Life Before Veganism - How the World Never Looks the Same Again When You Go Vegan

I was once disappointed that I wasn't able to see an orca performing at an aquarium I was visiting, I once bet on horses with friends, and I once ate animal products every single day. But once I went vegan, everything changed. Your perspective on the world radically shifts, as if a blindfold has been removed. Suddenly everything looks different, and suddenly, there seems to be suffering everywhere you look. Perhaps the most difficult, and most challenging part of this is the sudden realisation that your friends and family are taking part in this suffering, and are in fact paying for it to continue. But although the reality of the truth can be harder than the comfort of the lie, it is through this realisation that we can actually create a kind of world where we don't need to hide behind a lie to feel comfortable.✺ To support the show & get access to exclusive monthly podcast episodes: http://www.patreon.com/earthlinged✺ Find out more about what i do & join my mailing list: http://www.earthlinged.org✺ Download my free 122 page e-book: http://www.earthlinged.org/ebook✺ Take a 22 day free vegan challenge: http://switchtovegan.co.uk✺ Become a supporter of my activism (thank you!): http://www.earthlinged.org/support

Ep 24: This is How the Dairy Industry Lied to the World (And Almost Got Away With It)

Welcome to Season 3 of The Disclosure Podcast! In today's episode I take a look at how the dairy industry lied to the world, and almost got away with it. From 'government cheese' to government collusion, I break down how the industry worked with the US government to up the populations' intake of dairy products - ultimately leading to more breast and prostate cancer, more environmental destruction, and of course, more animal suffering. "Look, I hunt my own animals. I'm connected to nature, and I'm helping the environment. Haven't you heard about overpopulation and the importance of hunting for conservation?"In this episode I expand fully on my recent YouTube upload, where I debunked Joe Rogan's arguments for hunting. In today's episode I expand on the morality of hunting, the environmental arguments that hunters use, as well as offering advice on what to say if you're faced with a discussion with a hunter who presents you with these claims.✺ To support the show & get access to exclusive monthly podcast episodes: http://www.patreon.com/earthlinged✺ Find out more about what i do & join my mailing list: http://www.earthlinged.org✺ Download my free 122 page e-book: http://www.earthlinged.org/ebook✺ Take a 22 day free vegan challenge: http://switchtovegan.co.uk✺ Become a supporter of my activism (thank you!): http://www.earthlinged.org/support

Ep 22: The Death of Regan Russell & The Danger of Bill 156

On June 19th 2020, Regan Russell was killed. ⁣⁣An activist since the 1970s, she was at Fearman’s Pork slaughterhouse with Toronto Pig Save for a regular vigil. During these vigils the activists have an agreement with the slaughterhouse where the trucks stop outside for 2 minutes, so the activists can approach and give the pigs water and show them some comfort. However, on that day, one of the truck drivers ran Regan over and killed her. ⁣⁣In today's episode, I discuss how the new Bill 156, which was passed just a few days before, could have potentially pushed the truck driver to act in a way that ultimately ended a human life.Bill 156 exists to prevent activists from filming animal suffering on farms and during transport, making it illegal to do so.⁣⁣
