Episode 156 - Small Sweater Shownotes Dyeing/Business Viewer Questions: "A couple of immersion dyeing questions for you. With the acid dyes that you use, do you find the colour deepens the longer you leave it in the dye bath? And, if so, do you find it a significant difference? And do your mixed colours change shades the longer they sit in the dye? I use food safe dyes (food colouring, Kool Aid and Easter egg dye tablets), and I know with those dyes, the reds strike faster than the blues, so longer dye times can really impact the final colours." "Photographing question. Now that I’ve learned some of the methods to dyeing thanks to your tutorials, can you please tell us how you photograph the finished product? Should it be in natural light, under bright lights, hiding under a sheet (yes tried that)? My pictures are not showing the true colors and its blowing it out, over saturating?" The Dyer's Notebook - Episode 149
Episode 149 - Goals Shownotes Dyeing Viewer Questions: Hi Laura! I’m sure this will come up in your future dyeing tutorials, but thought I’d ask. When you dye using the twisting and layering technique with immersion dyeing, do you wait for the skeins to cool down before you re-twist them in between layers? Or do you re-twist them while they’re still hot? I foolishly tried this technique with non-superwash yarn a while back and ended up felting my yarn :( I didn’t wait for the yarn to cool down between layers, and even though I tried to gently re-twist them, I’m guessing all the handling and the sudden changes in temperature contributed to the felting. - BellaChix I am looking at niddy noddies and I don’t know which size to get. What size are the hanks you sell in your shop? - ThisPianoGirl Knitting Rowe by Michele Wang Gynx Yarns Merino Worsted "Woodland Adventure" Slade by Michele Wang Gynx Yarns Merino Worsted Lumpy Space by Stephen West Misc Crafting Viewer Question: I was curious… a VERY long time ago you showed a cross stitch that you got from the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. Episode 148 - How I Knit Shownotes Dyeing Viewer Question from chefdlc: Hi Everyone---I’m hoping to try my first yarn dyeing experiment this week. I was wondering, does the citric acid in the pot exhaust along with the dye? If I want to do a second layer of color in the same dye pot, do I need to add more acid too? Episode 147 - Laser Printed Cool Things Shownotes Dyeing AMA Thread: "My question is more of a “is there any reason not to” kind of question. I have roaster oven which I do not use. Somehow I thought I would use it for entertaining (silly me, since I’m an introvert and inviting people over is super stressful for me). Anyhow, I’m wondering if you can think of any reason why I couldn’t use it for heat setting the yarn? It’s self contained, has a rack and vented lid which I can close up with foil and uses standard oven heat settings like 350, etc. I know that I could not use it for food once I’ve used it for yarn, but at least I would be using it instead of it taking up closet space with no purpose for its life." - ClassicalGirl Knitting Rooibos by Clare Devine Gynx Yarns Merino Worsted "Eternal Sonata" Spinning Hobbledehoy "Sea Queen" Loop "Indigo Spectrum" Stash Enhancement Knit Spin Farm - Winter Parade Tuft Woolens - Vanilla Latte, Chai Spice Akerworks - Lendrum Woolee Winder 3D printed bobbins TurtleMade 3D printed glow in the dark Turkish spindle
