    50. Will & Courtney Kassner: The Best Day at Work Is the Day the Boss Stays Home

Will and Courtney Kassner founded Crew + Co in 2015 out of a passion for faith-based products — custom leather Bibles and family devotionals sold online. Ten years later, they're running a nine-person operation in a small town just outside of Memphis, Tennessee, and their building now includes a coffee shop that has become something of a community anchor. They sat down with me to talk about what it actually looks like to hand the business over to your team, what COVID growth taught them the hard way, and why Will describes their coffee shop as something closer to a church plant than a retail operation. In this episode we cover: How Crew + Co grew from a purely online business into a brick-and-mortar coffee shop and what surprised them most operationally in year oneThe hardest part of stepping back from daily operations when you've been the ones holding everything togetherWhy Will moved his computer home, and what changed when he didThe question they asked their employees that made them realize they were the bottleneckHow they think about preserving culture as the team takes on more ownershipWhat the COVID sales spike taught them about comparison, contentment, and callingWorking, building, and staying married to the same person through all of itThe seminary moment that became the through-line for everything they've built Episode Links:Crew + Co: crewandco.com Crew + Co on Instagram: @crewandco Monarch COO: www.monarchcoo.com Monarch COO on Instagram: @monarchcoo Monarch COO Inquiry Form

    49. Revenue Is Not the Finish Line

Revenue is the loudest number in your business. It's on the Instagram graphic, it's what people ask about at conferences, and it feels like proof that what you're building is real. But it is one data point, and if it's the only one you're tracking with any emotional investment, you are missing most of the story. In this solo episode, Courtney breaks down the four numbers that together actually tell you how your business is doing: revenue, expenses, profit, and cash flow. She explains why growing revenue can quietly grow you into a cash crisis, what your net profit margin is really telling you, and why the gap between profit and cash flow is where businesses go to die. She also pulls from Luke 14:28, where Jesus uses a financial illustration to make a point about counting the cost before you build. Knowing your numbers and trusting God are not in conflict. The counting and the trusting happen at the same time. Topics covered in this episode:Why revenue going up does not mean your business is getting healthierHow to track operating expenses as a percentage of revenueThe difference between net profit margin and cash flow and why it mattersTwo real-world scenarios where cash flow catches founders off guardThree action steps to take this week Episode LinksMonarch COO: www.monarchcoo.com Courtney on Instagram: @monarchcoo

    48. Jessi Bixler: Two Businesses, One Book, and Learning to Be Led

This episode is dropping during SAAM, and it could not be more fitting. Jessi Bixler is the author of The Story We Share, a multi-perspective memoir about surviving sexual assault, and she also runs Bixler Consulting, an eight-year-old marketing and AI-driven sales agency she built without full-time employees. This conversation covers how she built both, what she had to stop doing to protect her focus, and what she is actually asking God right now as she tries to steward it all. In this episode, Courtney and Jessi cover: How Jessi built Bixler Consulting to a point of stability using a contractor network instead of full-time employees, and why she made that call from the start. How her husband joining the business changed what she has capacity to focus on. The pivot into AI-driven lead recovery for blue-collar industries. Why The Story We Share is structured the way it is, giving secondary survivors their own chapters in their own words. What it meant to have conversations with family members she had never had before. How she is discerning where to spend her time between two businesses that serve completely different audiences. What leaders can do practically when someone on their team is carrying something they are not ready to say out loud. The practice of building from alignment instead of pressure, and what that actually looks like when you are a self-described doer. Episode LinksThe Story We Share: www.thestoryweshare.com The Story We Share on Facebook: www.facebook.com/thestorywesharebook Bixler Consulting: www.bixlerconsultingllc.comMonarch COO: www.monarchcoo.com Courtney on Instagram: @monarchcooMonarch COO Inquiry Form

    47. The Method That's Changing How Businesses Grow with Jessica Fraser

Most businesses think they know how their customers feel. They send a survey, watch the numbers come in, and call it good. Jessica Fraser built an entire business around the idea that that is not enough.Jessica is the founder and CEO of ElucidCX, a voice of customer consultancy that turns actual human conversations into a strategic roadmap for growth. She has worked across oil and gas, ministry, e-commerce, and everything in between, and she brought every bit of that experience into this conversation. In this episode, we get into the ElucidCX Method and what it actually looks like to walk a company through a full voice of customer engagement from kickoff to insight delivery. Jessica breaks down why she asks the same three to five core questions across 15 to 20 conversations, why confidentiality is non-negotiable, and how AI helps her make qualitative data quantifiable without losing the humanity of it.We also talk about the real tension she is sitting in as she scales: a referral-based pipeline that is working better than she expected, a retainer model she is actively refining, and a sales process that feels deeply at odds with everything her business stands for. If you have ever struggled to sell something you fully believe in, this conversation will hit close to home. And we do not skip the faith piece. Jessica left a stable job in a season where the financial stakes were as high as they have ever been for her family, and she made that decision because she believed the greater risk was disobedience. She talks candidly about what it has looked like to let her kids have a front row seat to that leap, about giving up worry for Lent, and about what it means to steward something that she knows is not hers. This is a sharp, honest, and genuinely encouraging conversation for anyone building something that matters.Episode LinksElucidCX Website: elucidcx.comJessica Fraser on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jessica-fraser4/Monarch COO: www.monarchcoo.comMonarch COO on Instagram: www.instagram.com/monarchcooMonarch COO Inquiry Form

    46. Why Your Team Isn't Dropping the Ball (You Are)

It's Friday. The thing you mentioned on Monday? Nobody touched it. Before you chalk it up to your team dropping the ball, Courtney Cook wants to challenge that assumption. In this episode, she breaks down why most execution gaps aren't a character flaw on your team's part. They're a process and clarity flaw on yours.Courtney walks through the four reasons tasks fall through the cracks, including why founders mentally move on before the conversation is actually finished, why assigning deadlines feels like micromanagement, and why assuming shared context is one of the most dangerous things you can do as a leader. She also introduces a simple three-part framework you can start using this week: define the owner, define the due date, and define the definition of done. Whether you're communicating in a team meeting or dropping a Slack message, this framework gives your team what they actually need to execute. The episode closes with a grounding word from 1 Corinthians 14:8: if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? Your job as the leader is to be the trumpet.Episode Links: Monarch COO: www.monarchcoo.com Courtney on Instagram: @monarchcooMonarch COO Inquiry Form

    45. How GoodKind’s COO Builds Trust Before Building Inventory

What does it look like to run a product-based business where the mission is the filter for every decision? Amy Kavanaugh, COO of GoodKind, joins Courtney to talk about building a lean, seasonal, inventory-based business without losing the values that make it worth building in the first place. In this episode, you'll hear:How GoodKind accidentally launched with 500 Advent Blocks out of a church parking lot in 202The three-part test every product has to pass before mass productionWhy GoodKind walked away from two products they wanted and could have soldHow their church partnership program works and what it delivers for churches of any sizeThe DTC vs. trade decision they are actively navigating right nowHow they are building a content arm to keep families engaged year-roundWhat happened when Amy started tracking her time out of curiosityKey TakeawaysProduct integrity is the long game. 44. Productivity, Control, and Learning to Surrender

Productivity, Control, and Learning to SurrenderSome of us aren't just interested in productivity. We're wired for it. The problem is that the same drive that helps us build great systems can quietly become a need for control, and that's where things get complicated. In this episode, I'm getting honest about why I love having everything documented and accounted for, what that tension between control and surrender actually looks like as a Christian entrepreneur, and four practical things that are genuinely making my daily life run smoother right now.In this episode, I share:Why my need for systems isn't just a preference, it's about managing anxiety, and how I hold that loosely while still trusting God with what I can't controlFour tools that are working for me right now: the two-minute rule, a lowered bar at home that's actually a win, inbox almost zero with the Boomerang app, and one small edit to a kitchen drawer that brought me more peace than I expectedWhat I'm most focused on building this year: the Monarch Method, my signature framework for operational transformation, and why getting it documented and trademarked mattersIf you're in a season where you're trying to control the controllables and surrender the rest, this one's for you. Connect with Courtney: Learn more about working with Monarch COO: [MonarchCOO.com] Book an Ops Health Check: [link] Follow on Instagram: @monarch.coo Want a DM-worthy moment from this episode? In this episode of The Entrepreneur’s Blueprint, Courtney breaks down one of the most critical and often overlooked relationships in business: the connection between marketing and operations.
