20: Winter Olympics - Surya Bonaly - Reading Roundup

Back from our unplanned hiatus! Enjoy this now-dated episode that we recorded back in February... Natalie and Kelly talk about figure skating at the 2018 Winter Olympics, then focus on Surya Bonaly - an often overlooked, but arguably one of the greatest figure skaters of all time. We wrap up with a review of the books we've read recently. Get ready for some excellent recommendations.  Music by Breakmaster Cylinder

Surviving Trump's America #11: Sexual Coercion, Consent, & Rape Culture

We're back with a super long episode to make up for our absence!  In this installment of Surviving Trump's America, we talk about the Aziz Ansari date we've all been on, how pervasive coercion is in women's relationships, how we are socialized to ignore and minimize woman's feelings and desires, and how all of these things and everything in between contributes to rape culture. Send your thoughts on coercion, consent, or anything we talked about to [email protected].  Music by Breakmaster Cylinder.

    19: Goal Setting & 2017 Faves

Hello 2018! This week the Furies bring you a cliche new year episode. Kelly JeaniusTM shares her proven goal setting (and achieving!) strategy, which, unsurprisingly, is very similar to the goal setting process of Fortune 500 companies. Then we reflect on the books, movies, and tv shows we (mostly) enjoyed in 2017. Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

  4. 34

    18: White Santa - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - Aging

In this week's episode, Natalie and Kelly talk about the absurdity of some people's preference for White Santa. Then we have a MAJOR SPOILER discussion about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (spoilers through S03e06 "Josh is Irrelevant"). We wrap up with some thoughts about aging as a woman and some of the complexities we're beginning to observe and experience as late-twenty-somethings.

  5. 33

Surviving Trump's America #10: White Accountability pt 2

We're FINALLY bringing you part 2 of our White Accountability series. This time we focus on tactics for breaking white silence, the spectrum of racism, and how to have conversations with the problematic white people in your community. We use the word "journey" about 60,000 times. If you have suggestions for topics to cover in our next installment of the White Accountability series, please email us at [email protected]

  6. 32

    17: Hollywood - Blade Runner 2049 - Glow

Kelly and Natalie discuss the outpouring of allegations in Hollywood. Content/Trigger warning for rape, pedophilia, assault, etc, as we do mention some of the allegations. We then have a spoiler discussion of the new Blade Runner movie, including an examination of how it portrays women. We wrap up with a recommendation to watch the Netflix show Glow, starring Alison Brie.

  7. 31

    16: 1 Year Anniversary - Horror Movies - Westworld

This week Natalie and Kelly reflect on their first year of podcasting and somehow end up talking about breastfeeding. Then we talk about some of the horror movies Natalie has been watching, including Psycho, Cat People, The Loved Ones, and You're Next. We wrap up with a recommendation from Kelly to watch HBO's Westworld and end up talking a little bit about Buffy The Vampire Slayer. And Cruel Intentions comes up a couple times...? We're all over the place today.

Surviving Trump's America #9: The Fourteenth Amendment pt 2

Due process. Equal protection. Strict scrutiny. All of these concepts spring from the 14th Amendment, which is the basis for some of the most important civil rights achievements in the last century. But the amendment has also been a major battleground for America's varied, competing political ideologies, and unsurprisingly, the good guys haven't always won. In this installment of Surviving Trump's America, we delve into the paradoxical history of the 14th Amendment. Part 2 of this episode picks up right where we left off - post Jim Crow through modern day. Music by Breakmaster Cylinder

  9. 29

Surviving Trump's America #8: The Fourteenth Amendment pt 1

Due process. Equal protection. Strict scrutiny. All of these concepts spring from the 14th Amendment, which is the basis for some of the most important civil rights achievements in the last century. But the amendment has also been a major battleground for America's varied, competing political ideologies, and unsurprisingly, the good guys haven't always won. In this installment of Surviving Trump's America, we delve into the paradoxical history of the 14th Amendment. Part 1 of this 2-part episode examines the history of the 14th Amendment from its passage after the Civil War through the Jim Crow era.

    15: #LadyPodSquad - Arabella Mansfield - Fall TV Quiz

A rather celebratory episode this week, as we congratulate Kelly on her passing the bar exam and becoming one step closer to becoming a lawyer. Topics this week include the amazing, supportive #LadyPodSquad community, the first female lawyer and the history of gender discrimination, and terrible Fall TV shows. Natalie tests Kelly to see if she can determine whether a show premiered in 1987 or is in the 2017 Fall TV lineup, based on its description.

  11. 27

Surviving Trump's America #7: White Accountability pt 1

This week Natalie and Kelly examine white privilege and how white people can do better in the face of overt (and not overt) White Supremacy and racism. We discuss some posts that made us think and examine our own privilege as we venture to chip away at the closed-minds or not-so-woke folks we know and/or encounter on a daily basis.  If you have resources you'd like us to share during part two of this segment, please email them to [email protected]

  12. 26

Listen as Kelly discovers our Instagram account, and we talk for entirely too long about some of our Instagram trolls. We end with a book recommendation: Uprooted by Naomi Novik.  Email us at [email protected]  Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @thefeministfuries and on Twitter @feministfuries

  15. 23

11: Wonder Woman - Roxane Gay / Bad Feminist - Josh Weed twitter thread

Bit of a change of plans due to Kelly reading the wrong book for our discussion, but we save face and bring you a full length episode instead! First we talk about Wonder Woman, the not perfect, but a pretty darn good start to what we hope is a feminist future for super hero movies. Then we talk about Roxane Gay, and her most popular essay collection, Bad Feminist. We wrap up with a thought-provoking twitter thread about modesty culture by Josh Weed (@The_Weed). Then we talk about the mysterious death of Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam, whose body was found in the Hudson River earlier this year. We wrap up with a recommendation from Kelly to watch Netflix's Sense8, and then end up in a tangent about Bill Nye, Bill Maher, and Kathy Griffin.  Email us at [email protected]  Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @thefeministfuries and on Twitter @feministfuries
