SDCC 2025 Recap: TV & Movie Highlights

We at The Flash Podcast have been staying busy with all the latest at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, and with more studios and networks taking the spotlight this year, there was a lot of film and TV to cover. As we were in Ballroom 20 and Hall H all throughout the very hot and busy July event, here are all the big takeaways from SDCC 2025 in TV and Movie! Peacemaker Returns…To The DCU While Marvel Studios took a backseat this year, DC Studios brought the next adventure of the DCU, as we are going back to HBO Max, with Peacemaker season 2! Making their Hall H debut, the Peacemaker cast and James Gunn took the stage on Saturday to discuss more about how the new season fits into the DCU franchise. One of the big teases for the upcoming season are the changes for our core characters, with Gunn sharing the following during the panel: “One of the things I wanted to make sure we did was that — I really like TV shows where the characters don’t just return every season as the same exact characters. I want to see growth, I want to see change, and sometimes regression. Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He’s dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season. And the world is not accepting him the way he is. The world is not accepting him as a hero. He’s in love with Emilia Harcourt and she’s not accepting him. So he’s not getting anything he wants, and he discovers a parallel dimension through the quantum unfolding chamber. And he thinks it’s the perfect universe. And that’s the beginning of the story, and it goes from there.” One big topic that was addressed – or more so teased – was how the series is making sense in the DCU despite starting the DCEU era. Well, according to Gunn, this is how he is looking at it: “I don’t remember for sure, but I think it was just a place where he could keep his helmets. It wasn’t gonna be as important as it became when I first wrote it. No, it’s often like people are like, ‘the old Peacemaker was in the DCEU, and the new Peacemaker…’ I’m like, was he really in the DCEU? I mean, there’s Bat-Mite, there’s all these other things that were happening. There’s Green Arrow, all these things that weren’t… I think the first Peacemaker was stuck in between, you know, dimensions, and nothing was quite present. So this is just trying to bring him into our world.” While we in the Hall H audience got to witness exclusive footage, DC Studios didn’t leave you fans at home empty-handed, as they also debuted the season 2 trailer at SDCC 2026 – check it out below! Marvel’s Ultimate Universe Is Ending – AGAIN! After two years of telling a new Spider-Man tale, as well as giving a different take on several Marvel legends, SDCC 2025 came with the reveal that the Ultimate Universe is setting up its own endgame, pun intended. First, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #24 marks the conclusion of Jonathan Hickman’s beloved take on this new Peter Parker. However, there is more: Ultimate Endgame was revealed as an upcoming 5-part event that will finish this continuity…and THE MAKER is coming back! During the panel, Deniz Camp opened up about bidding the upcoming finale, “This is the craziest and most impactful crossover [I’ve worked on],” Camp said. “I’m really excited about it. It’s all the characters: everyone coming together in this big way, coming up against each other in a big way, and the resolution of some long plot threads we’ve all been seeing. It’s very big, very dramatic, and with the Ultimate Universe, we can change the world. We can actually do it as creators because we have this incredible playground that Marvel has not just allowed, but encouraged us, to use. It’s such an honor to do something like this. It’s been amazing, and this is the culmination of a lot of what we’ve been doing together.” Pennywise Is Back! We are literally returning to Derry, but long before the events of the IT movies! During the It: Welcome to Derry panel, Andy Muschietti and the cast of the HBO drama disclosed how the prequel series will elaborate more on the rich history of the iconic monster. A new teaser was also unveiled, seeing Taylour Page’s character and her family having just moved to Derry, noticing that something is not quite what it seems…The first ten minutes were also shown to the audience, following Matthew Clemments, who is attempting to run away. The Star Trek Universe Takes Hall H With Storm! Star Trek is stronger and bigger than ever, as the franchise took Hall H with a special screening of the next episode for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds! However, there was more, as we got our first look at Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, another series in the franchise that expands this beloved property. See the trailer above! Yes, Coyote vs. Acme LIVES! Saturday morning brought Coyote vs. Acme to Hall H, after a long campaign of the film getting revived despite WBD shelving it for a tax write-off. The panel came with gratitude, as star Will Forte spoke to the audience, thanking them for fighting for the film: “The real hero of this movie is all of you guys sitting in those seats. Like Wile E. Coyote, you guys were an underdog who fought against a major corporation, and because you never gave up, this movie is now going to come out in wide global release.” while also debuting a teaser trailer for the film. HOWEVER, an “Acme Attorney” (who happened to look a lot like P.J. Byrne!) had attempted to shut the panel down. In An Hall H Panel Far, Far Away – GEORGE LUCAS! Star Wars happened because of George Lucas, and on Sunday morning, the iconic Hollywood filmmaker took the stage at Hall H, to showcase his upcoming Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, as this was the first time he had ever attended SDCC! Lucas received a standing ovation for his appearance, with the filmmaker also sharing words that couldn’t be truer about the beauty of art and stories: “It’s more about a connection with the work, not how much it costs or what celebrity did it, it’s more a personal thing… if you have an emotional connection to something, that’s art,” That is it for us at SDCC 2025 – see you in 2026! EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Showrunners Chad Fiveash & James Stoteraux Previews Gotham Knights Season 1

A new DC TV show for The CW arrives tonight as we are returning to Gotham City, but a very different version this time around. Tonight, Gotham Knights finally premiere on The CW, which follows the story of Bruce Wayne’s adoptive Turner Hayes and a group of troubled teenagers who get framed for Batman’s murder. As they have to clear their name, these individuals will also, along the way, become known as the Gotham Knights, the city’s next generation of heroes. The Flash Podcast and Multiverse of Color’s Andy Behbakht recently had the honor of chatting with showrunners and creators Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux, who is taking on their fourth DC TV show, following Gotham, Krypton, and Batwoman. Throughout the interview, the duo goes into depth about constructing this show, creating a new mythology in the Batman lore, how the Court of Owls is tackled in Gotham Knights, and much more! “Pilot” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, DLSV) (HDTV) SERIES PREMIERE — Batman is dead, and a powder keg has ignited Gotham City without the Dark Knight to protect it. In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan) is framed for killing the Caped Crusader, along with the children of some of Batman’s enemies: Duela Doe (Olivia Rose Keegan), aka The Joker’s Daughter, an unpredictable fighter and skilled thief who was born in Arkham Asylum and abandoned by her father, Harper Row (Fallon Smythe), a streetwise and acerbic engineer who can fix anything, and her brother Cullen Row (Tyler DiChiara), a clever transgender teen who is tired of being polite and agreeable. With the charismatic and hard-charging District Attorney Harvey Dent (Misha Collins) and the GCPD hot on their trail, Turner will rely on allies including his best friend and formidable coder Stephanie Brown (Anna Lore), and unlikely Batman sidekick Carrie Kelley (Navia Robinson).  But our Knights will soon learn there is a larger, more nefarious force at work within Gotham City. This team of mismatched fugitives must band together to become its next generation of saviors known as the “Gotham Knights.” Also starring Rahart Adams as Brody March. Danny Cannon directed the episode written by Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash & James Stoteraux (#101). Original airdate 3/14/2023. Every episode of GOTHAM KNIGHTS will be available to stream on The CW App and CWTV.com the day after broadcast for free and without a subscription, log-in or authentication required.” Gotham Knights premiere TONIGHT at 9/8c on The CW! EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: EP Natalie Abrams On Bringing The CW’s Gotham Knights To Life

The Flash Podcast and Multiverse of Color’s Andy Behbakht recently had the honor of chatting with co-executive producer and creator Natalie Abrams, a former entertainment journalist who is no stranger to the world of DC TV. After having worked on Batwoman, Abrams is now bringing the Gotham Knights to life on The CW this season. Throughout the interview, Abrams tells the origin story of how the show came to be, how Gotham Knights stand out from other DC TV shows, and the experience of getting to create a whole new Gotham City. EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Misha Collins Previews Gotham Knights’ Harvey Dent

Another year means another new DC TV show for The CW as we are returning to Gotham City, but a very different one this time around. This week, Gotham Knights finally premiere on The CW, which follows the story of Turner Hayes and a group of teenagers who get framed for Batman’s murder. As they have to clear their name, a key player will also emerge in the form of Harvey Dent, played by Supernatural star, Misha Collins, who is trading in his angelic wings for a powerful business suit as the District Attorney. The Flash Podcast and Multiverse of Color’s Andy Behbakht recently had the honor of chatting with Collins about his entry into the DC Universe. Throughout the interview, the Supernatural and Gotham Knights lead reflects on getting the gig and the lengths the show takes this Harvey before becoming the infamous Batman villain, Two-Face. Collins also opens up about meeting fan expectations before the show has even premiered and how Gotham Knights stand out from The CW’s many DC TV shows. DISCLAIMER: Please do NOT reproduce the interview or break up pieces through screenshots. We request that you link to our original article when using it on other platforms. TFP/MoC: You’re familiar with big fandoms, but what were your ties to the comic book lore of it all like? Were you a big DC fan growing up? Misha Collins: I think I was a fan to the extent that I don’t think you can escape of being an American boy and not be a fan of Batman and Superman. At some point along the way, I dressed up as Batman for Halloween at one point. I saw all the movies. But I was never a comic book fan per se. The closest I got was a read all of the Tintin, I guess. Those are kinds of graphic novels. I was never personally really a comic book fan. But I knew who the character was. Obviously, I had seen a couple of Batman movies that featured Two-Face/Harvey Dent. So, just to be folded into that universe is a thrill. My kids are into it as well, my son in particular; he’s 12 now. He watched all of the shows, Arrow, Legends, The Flash, and those DC-CW shows, so he’s excited. TFP/MoC: Has he been able to watch your show yet in advance? Misha Collins: I might preview it for them before Tuesday, but they haven’t watched it yet. TFP/MoC: How did this project come to you? Was this something that you had to audition for or did they come to you? Misha Collins: I think it was somewhere in between those two; I didn’t actually audition for it. But I met on a Zoom with the producers and writers. We had a lengthy conversation about the role. I think I think that I tricked them into casting me partly by about how I had harbored political ambitions before I was an actor, I interned at the White House and I worked at National Public Radio in Washington, DC. I thought that’s what I was going to go into with my life Harvey Dent is the district attorney, which is an elected office, but he also has aspirations for the mayor’s office. And I think that they thought, ‘Oh, we’re maybe getting something that’s a little bit along the lines of the real deal here!’ Of course, they were woefully disappointed when they discovered that, in fact, I was just phoning it in. But that was the process, and I was thrilled by the prospect of playing this role in this universe in the manner in which the story is being told, as they explained it to me in that first conversation that we had on Zoom. This is a version of Harvey Dent that we haven’t seen before. We’re getting to see because it’s not just taking place in a two hour segment on screen, but it’s actually evolving over the course of 13 episodes. We’re getting to see Harvey Dent as the District Attorney, the unflinching champion of justice for the city of Gotham. He’s very upstanding. He has a strong moral compass. He also is really taking Turner Hayes, who’s Batman’s adopted son, under his wing soon as Batman dies, which is really the opening of the series. I was Bruce Wayne’s best friend. I knew Turner Hayes, his adopted son from childhood. So I really take him under my wing and I’m like a surrogate uncle, but I’m stepping into the role of surrogate father for him. You see that paternal affection you root for him to be helping Turner as Turner’s life gets more and more complicated. He’s very quickly accused of murdering his own father falsely accused of murdering his own father. But the evolution of the character is such that he starts with, being unambiguously good and a real protector and advocate for the other characters in the show. As time goes on, we see that he’s fighting his own inner demons. He’s struggling against his own genetic, mental illness. He’s fighting the demons that came from a very traumatic childhood. He’s trying to hold it together. He’s trying to be a good and upstanding person, but it’s really hard. So that becomes a tragic story arc as the dark side, the Two-Face side of Harvey Dent emerges. As it was described to me, in that initial meeting, I was like, ‘Well, that sounds awesome to play. Sign me up.’ My only compunction about it was that my kids are in Southern California, and the show was to shoot on the East Coast. And I was like, ‘Oh, how am I gonna make that work?’ Then I told my kids, ‘I don’t know how to make this work. I really want to do this. But you guys are here and I’d be across the country.’ They were like, ‘Dad, do it, do it!’ I think that they thought erroneously it would make me cool if I did it. So it was with their blessing that I eagerly took the job. TFP/MoC: When I was watching the screeners, as I’m a huge DC/Batman fan myself, it really made me realize that, yeah, Harvey is perfect for serialized television. Because two hours for some villains that works. But with someone like Harvey who is so complex because he’s not born evil. He’s a good man that goes on this trajectory. When you got into this, did you go look at some of the backstory of Harvey like in the comics? Misha Collins: I did, and like many things in both DC and Marvel, it’s actually kind of a hodgepodge. There’s all of these different versions of Harvey Dent in the comic books, like there’s all these different iterations. It’s not all just one consistent through line. What precipitated the disfiguration, there are different versions of that. What the exact story about his childhood, [there] was different versions of that. It was a cool opportunity to cherry pick and take the best elements from different versions of Harvey Dent from the comics over the years. I definitely feel like the Dark Knight did a pretty good job of having that tragic element. We knew Harvey Dent as an upstanding ally and then he snaps because the worst thing imaginable happens to him both personally and his relationship that he loses but also physically disfigured. We did something different with this. We showed the fragility of Harvey Dent going up to leading up to a tragic event. And I want to reveal more than I’m allowed to. Ultimately, though, I think that there’s something problematic in the storytelling of somebody has a disfiguring accident and it makes them evil. That’s actually not how it works and it’s also saying something bad about physical disabilities and disfigurement. So I really love what we did, which is this person was already on a knife’s edge. This person was already fragile. He was already barely keeping it together when this precipitating incident happens. TFP/MoC: Not to spoil our viewers too much, but one of the episodes, we see Harvey at a therapists office talking about his fear, and I wasn’t prepared for how much they were gonna go into his complex relationship with his father. How much more do we get to see of that for the rest of the season? Because we get to a point where Harvey becomes someone you root for, and it’s almost like I don’t want to see him become Two-Face, even though we know that is his destiny. Misha Collins: We see a fair amount more there – I think episode 10 is very juicy and there’s a lot of talk about childhood there. But I think that even when Harvey becomes Two-Face in our show – because we’ve gotten to know him so well – we’ve seen all of the tragic elements that led up to that, there’s still a part of the audience that keeps rooting for him. There’s still a part of you that has developed such a deep empathy for the character that you can’t help but kind of root for even the Two-Face version of Harvey. Anyway, we’ll see I don’t know if that plays out. That’s how I certainly felt about the character playing him. I was like ‘Yeah, I get it dude, this makes sense.’ Not probably what I would do in that situation. But when he comes to this, we have so thoroughly been on the journey with him at that point that I don’t even think when Harvey becomes Two-Face, that we stopped rooting for him altogether. TFP/MoC: I know you probably can’t say what episode that happens, but I know you shared something on Instagram where you were like testing on some make-up for Two-Face. Whenever that episode airs, can you at least talk about what the experience was like to bringing that to life? Misha Collins: I felt like a child! It’s like the mask that we have, the appliance and the makeup – our special effects makeup artists is an award winner and amazing. The side of my face that is mutilated is so realistic looking and so gruesome that I wouldn’t show my children photos of it. I’m not sure how I’m going to navigate that because I know they’re going to want to watch the show. But it was just so cool that that can be done. I was just so amazed that you can actually have a practical application like that. It’s not CGI. It’s a real makeup appliance that I was just walking around showing everybody, taking videos and showing my best friends. I was gleeful even though it took four hours to put it on and 45 minutes off. I was still like, ‘This is super fun. This is super cool.’ This is the dress up, make believe part of the job [laughs] that’s actually – I hate to say it – but brings out the kid in me. it was pretty fun. I could imagine if I do it for another few years and every day I’m doing it – it takes hours and hours – I am sure I will start grumbling about it. But so far I found it fun like a kid with the coolest Halloween costume in school. TFP/MoC: I was afraid of that it was going to leak somehow because you know how things can get sometimes with set photos, whatever. But thankfully, it has been all under wrap so that I’m excited for whenever we get to see it. So what do you do throughout those four hours, listen to podcasts or what? Misha Collins: There’s too much stuff going on around my face, and my face has to be turned in different directions by the artists. It takes a couple of people working on it to put it on. I can’t really watch anything, but you can listen to podcasts. So the three of us all listen to podcasts that we then can discuss as we’re listening. So it was actually fairly entertaining – we pass the time quite nicely. But I’ve heard stories about actors like who are consistently going into the chair for their makeup appliances on Marvel films where it’s nine hours in the chair to get the makeup done. And I’ve heard stories about actors who actually sleep during the process. [laughs] Who knows, that could happen at some point in the future for me. TFP/MoC: Can you talk about working with this cast of young actors because for them, this is their big first genre show and you are already a pro at that. So how was it working with them? Misha Collins: It was great. Everybody, all of the regular cast on the show – and frankly, even the guest cast that we had along the way – everyone just showed up to work, really psyched to be there. And having done their homework and thought a lot about what we were filming that day. The level of professionalism that these young actors brought to the table was in stark contrast [laughs] to myself, Jared and Jensen when we were on Supernatural in season 15. We were just basically having a food fight on set every day. So it was really cool to work with this cast and I’m saying this without hyperbole, there really wasn’t a weak link in the group. Everyone delivered a great performance and it was good to be in that mix. TFP/MoC: Was there any attempt to try and get them to show up for an episode to get the gang back together somehow? Misha Collins: Ah, yes. Yes, there was. I don’t know if I’m supposed to reveal this, but we tried to work it out to have Jensen play Batman on the show. It was all kind of teed up, but unfortunately, Jensen was on another show at the time [laughs], and coordinating between two series is challenging. So it didn’t ultimately end up working out, but we tried. Jensen was pretty psyched about the prospect at one point because he does the voice of Batman for the animated movies. It would have been a great tie-in, and I thought it would be super fun too. But unfortunately, that didn’t work out, and I thought it would be super fun too. But unfortunately, that didn’t work out. TFP/MoC: Well, if season 2 happens…Misha, it’s a comic book show; you never know! Deaths can be faked; there could be clones… Misha Collins: Yes, exactly; good point, thank you! TFP/MoC: Because I would die to see Jensen play Batman – I am trying to imagine where Jared would fit into the DC Universe, so that would have been a fun prospect if that happened in season 2. Misha Collins: Yeah, who is a tall villain in the [DC Universe?] Maybe if we have The Penguin on stilts or something like that, Jared could play that. TFP/MoC: Ironically…not to make it punny, but I could have seen him as a Talon. Misha Collins: Oh, yeah, good point! TFP/MoC: You have a very passionate fandom, and when I told them I was going to talk to you, I got to see their passion for you. One of the things that many of them brought up – given the state of CW right now – is if there would not be a season two, does it at least end on a cliffhanger or open-ended maybe? Misha Collins: Season one really wraps up nicely; everything ties up for the first season nicely. So it’s a satisfying season finale, but it also tees up the series so you don’t feel like you’re left hanging when the show goes on hiatus, but you are left feeling you want more at the end of the season. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, given the nature of the current situation with our network. Just the fact there are not a lot of slots available for shows for next year, I wonder if it would have been better if it was like ‘Jeez, that’s not really going to work. You can’t end it that way.’ But for better or for worse, this season wraps up nicely with a bow. I really hope though it does at the end of the season feels like we’ve just opened it up, It’s aired a bit and now it’s time to drink the wine. TFP/MoC: Maybe you guys can move over to HBO Max, and we could have a cursing Two-Face. Misha Collins: Who knows! Yeah, we’ll see. So your podcast is tied to The Flash or? TFP/MoC: Yeah, I run a whole DC TV podcasting network, so this is on a network of other DC TV Podcasts, and I’m covering Gotham Knights for the season. We’ve all been wondering where all of this is going because the Arrowverse is essentially almost over, and Gotham Knights are very much its own thing. Misha Collins: I think this is very different from the Arrowverse shows that lived on The CW. I can tell you – those shows felt a little bit more fantasy than our show. Gotham Knights feels pretty grounded, but it takes even a few episodes for you to get into anything that you would know to fall in the realm of the supernatural-y. It doesn’t feel science fiction-y at all. For the most part, it’s very grounded. It’s real, it’s psychological and I think the look and feel are also different from most of the shows that have been on The CW. TFP/MoC: I love your Gotham City; by the way, I love that you guys went to Atlanta for this. Misha Collins: It’s on a scale that feels a little bit different. I feel like it could live on The CW, and I feel like it could live on any streamer, and I certainly hope it has that chance because I’m actually quite proud of the show. I have a friend who watched the pilot with me, a friend who’s very critical, and after watching it – I did not ask because I was like ‘You know what, I don’t want some negative feedback here. I’m just gonna let it lie.’ My friend, about an hour later, was like, ‘Well, that was awesome. I can’t wait to watch the rest!’ This is an adult, by the way, [laughs] a 40-year-old, going ‘I can’t wait to watch the rest of it. I was expecting to think it was lame.’ But that was super cool. I can’t wait to watch the rest of the show. That’s sort of how I feel about it and I also feel like it gets better over the season, which is cool. It’s good and bad, but I feel like it starts out good, and then by the time you get to the end, it’s epic. So I’m excited to see people’s reaction. I know that DC fans are a totally different fandom from the Supernatural fandom and I’m excited to win them over because the one thing about hardcore comic book fans, is that they tend to have very well-formed opinions prior to anything even being released. I’ve seen like people commenting like ‘This new show Gotham Knights sucks!’ TFP/MoC: When they have only seen two minutes of it! [laughs] Misha Collins: It hasn’t aired yet! I challenge those DC fans to watch it. TFP/MoC: As you should! Misha, thank you so much for speaking to me today. Hopefully, maybe we will try late in the season once your transformation has happened! Misha Collins: Thank you, it’s nice to meet you too! “Pilot” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, DLSV) (HDTV) SERIES PREMIERE — Batman is dead, and a powder keg has ignited Gotham City without the Dark Knight to protect it. EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: The Flash’s Richard Harmon On Arrowverse’s New Captain Boomerang

The Flash season 9 is getting deeper into its Red Death saga and tonight’s episode, “Rogues of War” take things to the next level. As the episode title says, the Rogues are on the rise, bigger than previous seasons as multiple characters are factoring into the final season. One of them is Captain Boomerang, as Owen Mercer joined the start of the season,.. Being no stranger to The CW viewers, The 100’s Richard Harmon is the first actor to ever portray Owen in live-action.  Unlike Arrow’s Captain Boomerang, Owen is not going anywhere anytime soon as he is one of Red Death’s allies, and things are only going to get more intense from here. The Flash Podcast’s Andy Behbakht recently sat down with Harmon to talk about bringing the latest Captain Boomerang to life in the Arrowverse. Throughout the interview, Harmon talks about the audition process, getting to join the comic book genre, and what to expect from Owen’s arc for the rest of the season. EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: The Flash’s Andy Mientus On Pied Piper’s Massive Season 9 Arc

The Flash season 9 is getting deeper into its Red Death saga and tonight’s episode, “Rogues of War” take things to the next level. As the episode title says, the Rogues are on the rise, bigger than previous seasons as multiple characters are factoring into the final season. One of them is Pied Piper, who was one of the first Rogues who joined the Arrowverse drama all the way back in season 1. After having appeared numerous times in The CW series, Andy Mientus is officially back and we are getting a lot more of Pied Piper than we have previously.  Tonight’s episode sees Hartley engaging with numerous characters as Barry tries to get to the bottom of the new mystery big bad. The Flash Podcast’s Andy Behbakht recently sat down with Mientus to talk about Pied Piper’s massive The Flash season 9 arc as the show gets ready to finish its run on The CW.  Throughout the interview, Mientus reflects on his Arrowverse journey of getting to bring Hartley back multiple times, and this time take part of his biggest storyline yet. The interview is also available in video format, which can be found here. DISCLAIMER: Please do NOT reproduce the interview or break up pieces through screenshots. screenrecording. We request that you link to our original article when using it on other platforms. TFP: Were you excited to be finally come back for several episodes? Usually we see Pied Piper for one episode, and then he goes away, but this time you got to stick around and be part of this storyline. Andy Mientus: In short, yes! [laughs] On a really basic level, all actors like to work and like to work on projects as big and storied, and, and viewed as this. But personally, I just love this guy, this character, more than maybe any other I’ve ever played. I love the group of people at The Flash, which has changed over the years. Somehow they maintain a standard of really good people throughout the cast and crew. So it’s a fun set to be on, every shoot is a new adventure. I feel every time I’ve been back, I’ve been doing something that I’ve never done before, whether it’s like blowing up cars, or hand-to-hand combat, or speaking French. It’s always a new adventure and I’ve been really fortunate over the years to pop back up here and there. When I heard that this was going to be the last season, I held a little candle of flame in my heart of like, ‘I would love to come back and finish it out.’ Even just for one or even a cameo, something to put a period on that sentence. But there are lots and lots of characters and I knew that there were lots of loose ends to tie up in the narrative. I wasn’t holding my breath and so then when I got a call about an availability check – just to see where I was at – and luckily I was and said ‘Okay, it’s happening maybe.’ I got cautiously really optimistic that I would have one [episode ] and then when I heard that it was going to be more than one, it was really super gratifying. I’ve always loved the character, but I know that he’s also something of a cult fan-favorite. So I’m happy for all those folks that have wanted more Piper all along. It’s very flattering to be one of the guest stars coming back for this final season, which is amazing, but I’m very proud to be one of them. TFP: Well, I’m so happy that you get to do that. Because I’m a comic book nerd, Hartley has always had various interactions with Barry and Team Flash, but this time we actually get to see you with so many other Rogues,. It gets to a point where we get to see all of them togeher – I am guessing shooting all of that much have been a lot of fun. Andy Mientus: Yeah, and that was one of those moments, that specific scene you’re talking about with the Rogues facing off – I have many moments like this [when] working on this show where you are looking around and you’re like, ‘How did I get here? Who did I trick into letting me do this?’ You’re wearing a superhero costume, my gloves are lit up and we’re in some crazy location. You are toe-to-toe with someone else in a superhero costume and Grant [Gustin] is standing over there chuckling; it’s so surreal and fun. I feel like a little kid when I get those moments. Yeah I got the opportunity to work with several actors that were new to me and some that I’ve known for years but haven’t really worked with. For example, Candice [Patton] and I finally got some scenes together, after all this time where we had been socially and friendly through the culture around the show,. But I don’t think we’ve ever really worked together before, so that was really fun to be able to check in with some of those folks before the end. To then meet my Rogues with Damion [Poitier, who plays Goldface,] Max [Adler, who plays The Hotness,] and Jon [Cor, who plays Chillblaine,] we had a blast working on these episodes. TFP: I always love how Hartley is the one who says whatever is on his mind – how much fun do you have getting to play the brutally-honest one on the team? Andy Mientus: It’s always super fun to have the kind of dialogue that Hartley gets to have. They write him really well and I remember one of the things that really attracted me to the part when I was auditioning [was] in one of my audition scenes, there was that first scene, where I’m being [brought] in handcuffs to Star Labs. I make a joke about The Flash being in leather, and how being led by a man [who is] in head-to-toe in leathers, is a fantasy of mine. I was like, ‘Oh, this is really Gay!’ We’re not just going to learn that he’s Gay as part of a sad plot, but like his actual humor, wit and sarcasm feels very authentic to me, to our community. So I was like, Oh, they’re really doing this’ and I really think that’s cool in a show like this. So that’s fun, just on that level. But also, it’s really – as an actor – a really good motor in the scene. Because I feel like Hartley’s whole thing is that he’s a genius. He’s the smartest person in most rooms, usually smarter than Barry, even. They’re both scientists but Hartley has tat little bit of intellectual edge. That’s why he butted heads with Cisco so much, because they’re both the kind of who’s the smartest, who has the best ideas. But Hartley using that intellect is really direct, he’s really effective. He has no time to suffer fools or beat around the bush. He’s like, ‘We have to do this and do this now. I know the right way, anyone who questions that way, is just wasting our time and will make me angry.’ He gets frustrated with people that are not up to his level, because he knows what’s best. So when you’re playing a scene with that knowledge, it’s a really good motor to keep you driving forward while everyone else is trying to consider what’s the right thing to do. What is the best thing to do, and Hartley will go, ‘This is the best thing to do and this is the way we have to do it. Let’s hurry up and do it.’ It’s fun to throw out these snarky one liners, but it also really tells me something about the way he operates. He’s so direct and sharp and fierce. TFP: Speaking of the Gay representation – I’ve always looked for more Queer rep on the show as I’m bisexual. For example, I sobbed a little bit with Hartley and Roderick’s kiss, as I felt, ‘We should have this many seasons ago.’ But I get the TV landscape landscape is what it is. Knowing that you’re the one that gets to carry that on your shoulders throughout the whole series, is that a huge responsibility for you as an actor? Andy Mientus:  I don’t think of it so much as responsibility because I only have the words that they give me to say, and the actions that are written in the script to do right. So I have very little control over what that representation is, looks like or feels like to the viewer. I do feel a great deal of openness from Eric [Wallace,] the showrunner, the writers and everyone on set, where if there was anything that was bumping for me where I thought, ‘Oh this doesn’t feel quite accurate, or it feels a little whatever,’ that I would have full ability to say that. It really is that kind of set where you can have that dialogue, and it’s not scary. Now, that said on this show, I think the writers are very clever and very sensitive, because I never had any moment like that. Everything always felt really great to me, which is a really nice way to come to work. So I don’t feel so much the responsibility, but I do feel like the weight of that honor of this is not just representation on a show in a genre that one might think isn’t going to have that kind of representation. But the fact that Piper has been conically out since the 90s. This is a bigger piece of Queer representation history than even my involvement in this adaptation of the source material. To get to play Piper at all is to pick up a mantle that is huge and risky when they started it in the comics. I feel that and it’s a cool thing that I can have in my cap forever. I feel like they should put it on my tombstone – not that I want to be buried, I want to be cremated – but it’s something I’m very proud of. I feel more the responsibility not so much of handling the Gay representation but being a good, fun, likeable, hateable and interesting Pied Piper for the people that have loved him since then before. This is an iconic character that means so much to some people and obviously the show is its own entity and takes its own artistic licenses with these characters. Right now I’m the only live action Piper there is and so you want to do right by by the people that created him and by the people that have loved him far longer than I have even known about him. To hear, on the whole that the fan feedback has been really good on me and on Piper, really warms my heart. TFP: Have you in between seasons gone back to the comics and looked at various things, hoping ‘Oh, mabe one day I get to do this with my Piper on the show!’ How much engagement do you have with the comics side of Piper? Andy Mientus: I had the most engagement with it at the beginning, because when I was cast, some folks at DC sent over a bunch of stuff for me to look at. They had put post-it notes in pages of various lomnibuses and volumes to get a sense of him, see the art and get started. There are some plot points that I always thought would have been really fun and cool to get into. But of course the show needs to do what it needs to do and all of us in the guest cast, the supporting cast, is working in service of the larger vision. In my head, there’s always been a parallel Piper story that have been happening concurrently. Then I pop into The Flash’s show every now and again to do what I’m going to do. But I do like to imagine that other stuff that’s going on in the background. TFP: We have you for a couple more weeks – would you say that by the time we finish this arc, we get a closure for Pied Piper, or might we see you later in season 9? Andy Mientus: Hmm…I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say. But I felt very satisfied by the last scene that I shot and I think there’s – in thinking of his larger arc throughout the series and throughout all nine seasons – I think beginning in 9×02, where I make my reappearance, you are beginning to see what I think of as the macro ending of his story. Which is that for when we first meet him, he was abandoned and betrayed by this father figure in Harrison Wells, which has set him down this villainous path. A lot of which manifest in him trying to prove that he is a genius, is effective [but] can be scary to people that he perceives as having crossed him. So for the entire series, I feel like in these little glimpses that we get of him, you see him trying to prove himself trying to be respected and trying to show everyone that he does have the best idea and is a force to be reckoned with, even though he’s little, has glasses and is Gay, which is not someone that people might be intimidated by. He can be really scary and really intimidating. When Barry comes to him for help, they come up with a plan of what to do and Barry kind of acquiescence to going with Piper’s ideas, that is so gratifying for him. [He is] this guy that he has been trying to be better than for the better part of 10 years, because his father-like-figure Harrison Wells seem to this guy more. It’s like this sibling rivalry that’s been going on. Finally, Barry really sees and respects Hartley or at least Hartley is finally aware of that even if Barry has respected him all along. So that I think is the most satisfying bit of closure beyond what the actual last scene we get of Piper is – I think it’s a satisfying ending and then once that’s happened, you get a little bit of time where you get to see Piper loosen up a little bit and not be quite so fierce the way he has been but a little looser, a little more funny. [Hartley] do things that are a little more selfless, which I’ve really loved getting to play with TFP: By the time you wrapped, did you get to keep any of Piper’s stuff, like the coat, the gauntlets or any of it? Andy Mientus: No, but when I auditioned for the part, a few days prior, I was doing a show on Broadway at the time. I had rubbed my eye the wrong way and I ended up in the emergency room that night with a corneal abrasion. Then my audition Pied Piper on The Flash [was coming up] and I had to fly to Los Angeles from New York days later. So I couldn’t put my contacts in, so I had to wear my glasses to the audition, which are those glasses. I auditioned, I got it and they liked my glasses so much, they ended up buying several exact copies of my personal glasses to be Piper’s glasses. We moved away from it in later seasons, but I have, of course, my still personal pair of glasses, which are the Hartley glasses, so maybe I’ll put them in a glass case or something for future generations to study. I don’t know, but I have those at least. TFP: A new DC Universe is coming to life and I really would love to keep seeing you more in the DC realm. Have you been paying attention to all the things that James Gunn and Peter Safran are talking about and is that something you would like to take part of? Andy Mientus: I mean, yes, if you’re listening, yes! [laughs] it’s a loud yes. I think it’s so great that DC keeps finding new ways to tackle these stories and what is the best way to tell these stories [while] keeping themselves open to a broad vision as opposed to being like ‘This is the universe we’re creating, we’re going to stick to it no matter what.’ They’re like really listening to fans and listening to feedback and trying new stuff. I really love the variety of tones that we’ve gotten from DC properties across all media and I would love to do Piper like in a video game, or in animation. I would love to do Piper in something really like serious and grounded like Joker. I think there’s a million different lenses to look at this character with and if they ever call, I will come running because I love this character and this world. TFP: Like a Pied Piper movie in the tone of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker? I would die for that. Andy Mientus: There’s a lot there! There are a lot of Piper stories that we didn’t get to [with the show] from the source material. Who knows? Again, I’ve learned not to hope for things or wish for things, but yeah, since you asked, [laughs] if anyone else is listening, I’m in! TFP: For my final question how does Hartley react to someone like Red Death? Because he’s already used to one speedster, but not someone like Red Death. Andy Mientus: Hartley at least puts on a front of being really confident and really brave, which is one of the things I love most about him is that despite his stature, his glasses, hist past, he is tough as nails. I think he’s one of the toughest characters you get to meet in The Flash. Red Death, as this arc progresses, is the scariest thing that he has encountered yet. So from my point of view – it was cool to get to finally like crack that hard shell open a little bit. You get to see him really scared and really the stakes get very high and very dire. To see Piper have to make some tough choices and standby those calls is really just some good old drama. Red Death gets super super scary and I’m excited for people to go on that ride with us. TFP: As long as Hartley and Roderick are fine by the end – because man, when I fought they killed Roderick off in 9×02, I went ‘Please tell me they did not just do that!’ Andy Mientus: [laughs] Yeah, me and Joel [Semande] who plays Roderick, we were laughing so hard about like, ‘Man, we got to wrap him in bubble wrap, he just keeps getting into trouble around him’ Hartley, God I love him, but he’s getting his boyfriend into some serious trouble to protect them! TFP: What do you have coming up that you can tease people about? Andy Mientus: I can’t really say anything about anything upcoming other than this run of of episodes on my acting side, but people may not know that I am also an author of fiction. I’ve published four books of fiction for Young Adults through Abrams publishing available where all books are sold. This past fall, I published a Young Adult story called Fraternity that has similar spooky Gay representation and supernatural qualities so I think fans of Pied Piper might really like that book. So it’s called Fraternity and you can find it anywhere books are sold written by yours truly. TFP: Well Andy, thank you so much for your time and thank you for what you’ve done with his character. Again, for someone who got to pop up here and there, I think you are one of the fews that got to do so much and have a lot of layers, making Hartley one of the rich characters of the series. Hopefully once Todd Phillips is finished with his Joker stuff, he may think ‘What’s the next character I can take to the big-screen and do something really big with?’ and he’ll hopefully think of Pied Piper. Andy Mientus: Write your Senators, write your congress! [laughs] Thanks you so much for taking the time with me and having me on. Al of you out there listening, I hope you enjoy the season! To find Andy Mientus’ work, be sure check out Fraternity, as well as his The Backstagers series, Ghost Light, The Theater of the Ancients, The Final Blackout, that are all available for purchase at Abrams Books! “Rogues of War” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV) ON THE MOVE – Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) start to put together the pieces of what’s happening in Central City and believe they know what the Rogues are after. EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Brec Bassinger & Geoff Johns Breaks Down Stargirl Series Finale

WARNING: This interview includes FULL SPOILERS from the series finale of DC’s Stargirl! Another beloved DC heroine has finished her run on The CW as the series finale of DC’s Stargirl aired tonight on the network, as Courtney Whitmore and the Justice Society of America had their ultimate showdown against the Ultra Humanite and Icicle. The Flash Podcast recently sat down with Brec Bassinger, who plays Stargirl, and showrunner/executive producer Geoff Johns, to break down the emotionally charged series finale, as the Frenemies saga got wrapped up. DISCLAIMER: Please do NOT reproduce the interview or break up pieces through screenshots or screen recording of the video version of the interview. We request that you link to our original article and video when using it on other platforms. The Flash Podcast: This is so bittersweet. I have loved the show since the beginning, and it took me three times to rewatch this until being finally able to accept ‘Okay, this is the end,’ well, I guess ‘Never The End’ as it said on the screen in the end. Talk about filming that finale, for you, Geoff, to write it and you, Brec, getting to film it, knowing that this could be the end. Geoff Johns: Well, we knew it could be the end so early on, which is why the season is designed the way it is. But it was still emotional to shoot it and emotional to write. I loved writing it because I knew exactly where it needed to go and where it was going to go, and I was super excited about all those scenes. There’s only one scene that was cut, but it’s going to be on the Blu-Ray, which I’m excited about. Brec Bassinger: I didn’t know that! Geoff Johns: The Mike and Jakeem scene with a little ending of a character from season 2; that it’ll be fun. But it was fun, emotional, satisfying, sad, and exciting all at once. It was every good emotion that you could have, I had. Brec Bassinger: Definitely emotional. I would say there were so many moments on set, particularly in that last fight scene when we were all at the junkyard together because that’s where our season wrapped. Sometimes a season could be wrapped with the first scene of the episode if that’s how the schedule goes. But I actually season wrapped when we were filming the big epic fight scene. There were so many moments [where] I would stand there, look around and look at who I was surrounded by, with exploding cars and super suits. [There was also] 6’5 Joel McHale fighting me for a Cosmic Staff, and I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude, gratefulness, and emotion. [It was] all positive, but still deep down, when you love individuals and love something so much, you can’t help but have this tinge of missing it, but still so grateful that it happened.   The Flash Podcast: We have to talk about that fight scene with you and Joel. When I talked to you back at the beginning of the season, never did I ever imagine, ‘Oh, these two are gonna fight each other!’ How much fun did you guys have rehearsing that and finally executing it? Brec Bassinger: My favorite thing is I’m very small, and in every scene that I have with Joel, there would be apple boxes. Our stunt doubles are amazing, and they really are the other half of the JSA; I give them so much credit. But there were a couple of sequences that we actually got to do together. A lot of times, if I’m doing a fight scene, I’ll do it with Joel’s stunt double and vice versa, just to keep everyone as safe as possible. But there was one part, in particular, it’s right when I come in and try to take the stuff from him, we got to do this cool little twisty thing. It felt really cool because it felt like I was actually taking the staff from him. There were always jokes throughout the season, ‘I’m the real Starman,’ and I would be like, ‘Oh look at the name of the show. Joel McHale!’ [laughs] So it was super fun.   The Flash Podcast: I’m sure a lot of people are asking this but was there any attempt at shopping the show around to other platforms like HBO Max in case The CW didn’t renew it? Geoff Johns: We had an idea, and we tried to find a new home for it, but [it was] super complicated, and ultimately we just didn’t find another home for the show. It’s hard, too, when it’s in season 3 going, possibly into season 4. But we tried everything we could to keep the show going because we loved doing it. Honestly, when I was working on season 3, at that point creatively, I was so satisfied with the stories and where the characters went. It was more about being able to hang out with everybody [laughs] and do another season, so we can have fun making something because that’s what it became about. When I first saw thought of the show, I thought of three seasons as this trilogy. I always knew Joel was going to be Ultra Humanite; that’s why he was planted in season 1 and throughout season 2. This season, [it was about having] Stargirl overcome Starman and essentially taking the legacy on for herself. That was the story [as well as] having all these characters reconcile and become a real family, that was a story. The story was about closed up [when season 3 was completed.] For us, I think, it was more about being able to work and hanging out with each other because we had the best cast, crew, writers, and post-production team. It was nothing but a joy every day. I’m grateful we got 3 seasons to tell the story we did and have the experience that we did. Every season was more and more fun. Despite COVID, it was kind of a miracle – because we got to shoot seasons 2 and 3 during COVID, we weren’t as “locked up” as everybody else. We got to see and be with people who cared about having fun working. We were really lucky to be able to do this throughout [COVID.]   The Flash Podcast: Brec, did Geoff tell you from season 1 that Sylvester was Ultra Humanite? When did you and the cast find out? Brec Bassinger: Geoff always kept me pretty in the loop. The cast would always come to me and ask, even in this third season when we were filming, ‘Who killed The Gambler?’ I’d be like, [shrugs] The crew didn’t know. There were some crew members when they got that script; they were shocked. We got to see a little taste of what the audience might think and feel throughout the cast and crew. But Geoff kept me on the inside. Geoff Johns: Yeah, it was actually great to see that episode last week and have people’s reactions because it was wrapped up pretty well, and it connected well. It was great to see that surprising twist pay off in such a wonderful way. It also pays off in the final episode too.   The Flash Podcast: Since you knew from season 1 that you wanted to do this with Starman, how key was it to make sure to have Joel in the background as much as possible and build up to him while doing all of these other villains? Geoff Johns: Yeah, it was a long game. When I write comic books, I like the long game. It was the same thing [here] when talking to Joel about the story, the character, and getting him on board. Because he was only coming in for a few episodes in season 2, and then he was going to join the cast in season 3. It was important for him to know the story and be excited about the story. The way we have Sylvester throughout season 3, you like him, then you don’t like him. Then you’re questioning him, and then he can be a jerk. But then he’s really understanding and sympathetic. It was going back and forth [in terms of] moving your emotional heart how you felt about Sylvester that kept you a little bit off kilter so you wouldn’t suspect Sylvester. The number of people that have been totally surprised by the revelation was great and we worked really hard on that.   The Flash Podcast: That was great too, because in the superhero business, things leak online all the time, but this was something you guys really got to keep a secret, which was awesome. I think you both talked about filming two alternative endings. Can you disclose anything about that second ending, or is that something you want fans to see if it’s on the Blu-Ray? Geoff Johns: It’s not that different. There are only a couple of lines of dialogue that are different, which would have sent us into another story. We’ll probably talk about it someday, but I don’t know if it’ll be on the Blu-Ray or not. There are a couple of deleted scenes that are on the Blu-Ray, [at least] two right now from the season that was worth putting on there. [There are always] scenes that get dropped, but these two were worth [to put] on there. But I’m sure at some point we will [see it], but it’s not a massively different ending. It’s just a slightly different ending that sends them off on what would have been a really interesting season 4 story. Again, someday we’ll talk about it, but for now, we just want people to enjoy the ending we have.   The Flash Podcast: Fans would murder me if I didn’t ask this because when I talked to Brec last time, crossovers are something people are always asking about, and then you two went up to Toronto for something-something! [everyone laughs] What can you guys talk about that [photo they took with Titans’ Ryan Potter, who plays Beast Boy]? Because I am sensing we will see Stargirl again in 2023… Geoff Johns: I will get in so much trouble at this point [laughs] I can’t say anything but but never the end. Brec Bassinger: I’ve watched the finale twice, and both times, when ‘Never the end’ comes up. I immediately start bawling. I watched it with my mom last night. I get so emotional, and Geoff, I’m so grateful you made such a wonderful ending that had so much closure and so much clarity. Then just to say ‘Never the end,’ it really hits me in the core. I love it; I’m proud of that ending! Geoff Johns: The ending is an ending, but this stuff goes on forever, those characters live on and have adventures that live on, and it is never the end for our JSA heroes, including all the relationships we made. It doesn’t feel like an ending. It was the best, special time I’ve ever had in my career and life, and it was super special to do that.   The Flash Podcast: We just got the JSA on the big screen, and they could always use a Stargirl. Brec, would you be down to show up in the movies, even if it was a different version of her due to the Multiverse? Or would it be important that you still get to play the version that you’ve been building up for 3 seasons? Brec Bassinger: Geoff knows I’m obsessed with being Stargirl; I identify as Stargirl! [laughs] She will forever be a part of me. So whatever it can mean, I’m down as long as Geoff’s there. Geoff Johns: I just think Brec is Stargirl, and anybody would be lucky to have her continue to play Stargirl in any shape or form. But regardless, I’m so proud of the three seasons we put together, and I’m just quite grateful we got to tell a complete story. Even our season 4 idea wasn’t about regressing character arcs and going backward because once Cameron and Courtney are together, I don’t want to break that up. Once Rick reconciles with Beth, I don’t want to screw that up. The relationships that we’ve forged, it wasn’t like we would have gone backward and broken any of those. It was just a very different type of story we going to tell next if we did another season.   The Flash Podcast: We had all of these sweet family moments, were some of them going to be saved for a series finale if this had been a season finale or was this always the timing you had in mind? Geoff Johns: Because we knew this was probably going to be the last season, I just wrote it like it was going to be because we knew it was a pretty good possibility. So all those moments were designed for the end of the series, especially that last scene. Some of those scenes I had in my head since day 1, and some of them came into existence during season 3.   The Flash Podcast: Brec, how much did you geek out about the flashforward scenes and hearing what Starwoman and the JSA had been up to? Brec Bassinger: Absolutely! I feel like Stargirl is such a part of me, like part of Brec, that it was so cool. Like, ‘Oh, look, look what I got to do, that’s awesome! You fall in love with the characters you play, and you fall in love with Courtney, her best friends like Wildcat. I have fallen in love with Wildcat as well. So to get to hear and see that they were all successful of these characters that you love, you can’t help but just be happy for them. It sounds weird, but it’s how I feel.   The Flash Podcast: I’m going to rephrase a question I asked previously without getting anyone in trouble. Since Geoff executive produce Titans and Doom Patrol, could the Stargirl characters somehow live on through those shows or appear in an episode or two? Geoff Johns: You didn’t ask it different enough, I’m sorry, I can’t answer that! [laughs]   The Flash Podcast: Fair enough! Let’s talk about Jay Garrick in that final scene because I love John Wesley Shipp and because this was taking place 10 years in the future, was this something that you had a conversation with Eric Wallace [The Flash showrruner] about? Geoff Johns: I talked to Eric about The Flash how we were using him just so he knew and keep everyone up to speed. But because it’s in the future, so to speak – no pun intended – it didn’t really affect the other show. That final scene with Jonathan Cake, who played a wonderful Shade, such an amazing actor – our whole cast from from A to Z was brilliant – but having that last scene be [about] The Shade and the Golden Age Flash, was really important. The Shade hadn’t showed up in a while and Jay Garrick was a nice surprise. I don’t think people are seeing him coming, which is cool.   The Flash Podcast: Fair enough! Let’s talk about Jay Garrick in that final scene because I love John Wesley Shipp and because this was taking place 10 years in the future, was this something that you had a conversation with Eric Wallace [The Flash showrruner] about? Geoff Johns: That last final scene was really important because it gave, it was important not to have our main characters; it was important to have Shade and Jay. You see how far the Shade has come; it’s all about, ‘Look how far the Shade has come!’ Then he gives you the perspective on the JSA, and for him to give that tour, for him to be there, that shows he’s changed a lot, thanks to Pat and the JSA. He gives a perspective on what they’ve done, where they’ve gone and what the JSA is all about. That I think is a real perfect send-off into the future. Then Jay comes in for that final fun beat and reveals that ‘According to Courtney Whitmore, you’re a member of JSA now too, let’s go,’ and I wanted to send everybody off into the next adventure because their adventures do go on forever. I think it’s fun to let just let our imaginations go wild and the worst thing would have been if they all put their suits away and went ‘That was fun, we’re done.’ My intention was to make sure that you knew they went on forever.   The Flash Podcast: Well, for anyone who finds the show in the coming years, whether it’s on HBO Max or on Home Release, what do you both hope they take away from Stargirl as a whole? Brec Bassinger: I go back to the character of Courtney, who is such a light. I love watching TV shows, and I love content. I’m an actor, and I live for it. So to get to be a part of a show that’s just a positive show, I feel like so much of the content nowadays it’s sometimes hard for me to watch. I want to come home, have a relief and escape to a different happy reality of superheroes and the JSA. I hope our show can continue to bring that to people because it’s definitely brought it for my family and me. Every Wednesday, we sit down, my grandparents come over, and we want to continue to do that for someone. Geoff Johns: Just be nice to people, care about people and enjoy it. Look for the good in everything; look for the good first because there’s so much good in the world. That’s what Courtney does and believes in. Hopefully, that’s something people find that they can share with their families. Like if somebody watches it now and they’re young, maybe when they have children, and they’re older, they can watch the show with them because that’s what it’s designed for.   The Flash Podcast: One of my final question that is a fun one for you both – did either of you get to keep a copy of Cosmo? [Both Brec and Geoff give a teasing silent smile]   The Flash Podcast: Anything else you want to share with the fans who will be reading and listening to this as we say goodbye, at least for now? Brec Bassinger: Thank you for watching and supporting our show, I had the best time of my life getting to make it and getting to connect with so many people. Like over the past year, with a lot of the pandemic regulations going away, I’ve gotten to meet so many fans of Stargirl, and almost every convention I go to, I cry at some point. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful, positive, accepting group of people who watch our show. I’m just so thankful and grateful for them. Geoff Johns: I’d echo that too. We didn’t have the opportunity to meet the fans in person and the people who watched the show in person until recently. I want to thank everybody that’s watched and supported Stargirl, who the show’s connected with, and it’s such a wonderfully positive, passionate fan base. I hope they enjoy the finale as much as we enjoyed making it, but thanks for watching it and thanks for sharing the show; it means a lot.   The Flash Podcast: Thank you for all the work you both have done and everyone who’s worked on the show for three years especially during these hard circumstances. Thank you for sharing Courtney with us in the world; I’m still holding up hopes that somehow the show comes back or we will see Stargirl somewhere, maybe next year…I know I’m such a tease, I’m sorry for like poking at this! But that photo of Brec and Ryan, it broke the internet, I hope you know that, Brec! [laughs] Did you have fun meeting him? Brec Bassinger: I already knew him, I knew him before! [laughs]   The Flash Podcast: Thank you both so much, and congrats on a three-year journey that’s been such an amazing roller coaster and we will see what happens in the future. Brec Bassinger: Thank you! Geoff Johns: Thank you so much, Andy! DISCLAIMER: Please do NOT reproduce the interview or break up pieces through screenshots. The Flash Podcast Season 8.5 – Episode 4: Barry Allen’s Introduction On Arrow (Episodes 208-209 Commentary)

On this week’s episode of The Flash Podcast,  Andy, Tatiana, Breeze, and Lacy get together to revisit Barry Allen’s introduction in the Arrowverse that set up The Flash. Before becoming the fastest man alive, Barry had his two-episode arc on Arrow, that set up his iconic journey as one of the Arrowverse’s greatest superheroes. Join the gang as they do episode commentaries on Arrow season 2, episodes 8 and 9, “The Scientist” and “Three Ghosts” respectively! That and more on this week’s episode of The Flash Podcast! “The Scientist” – (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, V) (HDTV) BARRY ALLEN COMES TO STARLING CITY – A seemingly impossible robbery at Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division brings Central City police scientist Barry Allen (guest star Grant Gustin) to town. Citing a similar case back home, Barry offers to help Oliver (Stephen Amell) and team with the investigation. Oliver senses there is more to Barry than meets the eye, but he’s distracted by the similarities between this current case and something that happened on the island. Meanwhile, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) takes a liking to Barry, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Oliver. Sin (guest star Bex Taylor-Klaus) asks Roy (Colton Haynes) for help when a friend of hers goes missing. Roy is surprised when Thea (Willa Holland) not only encourages him to help, but joins the search. Unfortunately, Sin’s friend is connected to Brother Blood (guest star Kevin Alejandro), and their search ultimately gets one of them seriously injured. Michael Schultz directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kresiberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Geoff Johns (#208). “Three Ghosts” – (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV) OLIVER IS VISITED BY GHOSTS FROM THE PAST – After a fight with Cyrus Gold AKA the Acolyte (guest star Graham Shiels), Oliver (Stephen Amell) is drugged and left for dead. Determined to cure him, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) makes a risky decision. The cure causes Oliver to hallucinate, and what he sees forces him to confront his past. Meanwhile, Barry (guest star Grant Gustin) continues to help Felicity, and their connection grows stronger. The Arrow asks Lance (Paul Blackthorne) to look into Gold, but when the stakeout on Gold goes bad, someone is killed. Roy (Colton Haynes) is captured and tortured by Brother Blood (guest star Kevin Alejandro). John Behring directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kresiberg and teleplay by Geoff Johns & Ben Sokolowski (#209).
